This video raised its ugly rh head in Barbados last evening.

The more discerning among us are aware racism and bigotry are unwelcome human characteristics present everywhere humans exist. We accept human beings are imperfect creatures. However, it does not mean when these unsavoury qualities show its ugly head that civil society should not promote relevant policies and other measures as requires to nurture tolerance and educate fellow citizens in the interest of growing a wholesome society.

The mouthings from the person in the video is the result of many things which Barbadians have known and been tardy to addressing over the years. Crypto racism has been discussed often enough in this forum- for years. It must be addressed in a structured way. Spouting balderdash is easy for some but it will take much more to excoriate the scourge of racism and bigotry that has metastasize over centuries.

    John Knox’s little birdie was late. Since yesterday I posted that the person was said to be of East Indian descent. I always figured they would not have been black or white. Then I figured it could not be a Bajan of East Indian descent because they would hardly have been working for him or travelling with him in that vehicle. I concluded that it could only have been a Guyanese of East Indian descent.

    This morning I was told that it was so. Still, I cannot swear that it is so. But it sure makes sense.

    Whatever the motive, he has done us a favour. Only a sick person like John Knox would try to paint it otherwise. This is the very first time I have heard somebody use the word ‘”nigger” in a way that I can say refers to me. Though I knew it must have been said in their homes and though this turd was in the privacy of his vehicle, I HAVE HEARD HIM SAY IT!

    It does not make me feel small or fragile but empowered. SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE! IT CANNOT BE BUSINESS AS USUAL!

    The conversation that has been hitherto avoided will come at a national level. And then there will be action. These politicians will be smoked out. They will have to come with a plan. Noone will allow them to escape this time. It is COVID and then it is the republic. Great time for the complete package!

    Everything is for a time. Sometimes I have taken long breaks from BU. One lasted a couple of years. Life everywhere tends to go round and round in circles. But then somebody determines that the circle must be broken and they propel us outwards and eventually into another circle.

    I have a feeling that there is an opportunity to break the circle here. Without hope one is already defeated. I choose to have hope, not for perfection but progress.

    Regardless of BU’s frustrations sometimes I do learn something of value here even from those who annoy me.

    Hopefully you will check in with us sometimes like the Bushman. We will miss your vibes!

    How come David never made mention of this comment by George Payne

    MP George Payne has outright rejected PM Mottley offer to give him a knighthood . He sighted her despotic conduct as the maximum leader and making decisions without consulting her colleagues or cabinet. He further stated that she must take some of the blame for the Covid 19 crisis and resulting deaths . He also sighted the worsening economic climate , and the plight of the poor.

    What you are arguing here, John, is that your Bible god called Yahweh made a horrible mistake in the Garden of Eden when he tried to genetically modify two creatures dubbed Adam & Eve which were Mother Nature’s ‘African’ mistakes and rejects.

    The miller has been grinding endlessly the same message to blacks for some time now on this blog.

    It’s the same message the prophet Marcus Mosiah Garvey was preaching since the turn of the previous century but with very little success.

    This is the last chance Pachamama has offered to blacks- especially those who have been the victims of both chattel slavery and colonialism- to shed themselves of mental enslavement and abject total dependency on other races fro their day-to-day survival.

    They are now in the last chance saloon to right the wrongs of their cultural, religious and economic past or be thrown into the waste basket of irrelevance by Mother Nature.

    The recent Black Lives Matter uprising and the most recent local (Bajan) white supremacist outburst in the form of the Corbin canary in the Bajan coalmine of racism should be the last stimulus or reveille (wake up call) to blacks to get their act together or be prepared to suffer the fate of irrelevance in a future not kind to weak-minded beings.

    If the next decade finds them still lingering on the doorsteps of dependence on other races like beggars then they will be deserving of what is in store for their sorry asses of mental recalcitrance and downright laziness.

    South Africa has put its roll-out of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on hold after a study showed “disappointing” results against its new Covid variant.
    Scientists say the strain accounts for 90% of new Covid cases in South Africa.
    The study, involving around 2,000 people, found the vaccine offered “minimal protection” against mild and moderate cases of Covid-19.
    South Africa has received 1m doses of the AstraZeneca jab and was due to start vaccinating people next week.

    Speaking at an online news conference on Sunday, South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said his government would wait for further advice on how best to proceed with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in light of the findings. The trial was carried out by the University of the Witwatersrand but has not yet been peer reviewed.
    In the meantime, he said, the government will offer vaccines produced by Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer in the coming weeks.
    “Unfortunately, the AstraZeneca vaccine does not work against mild and moderate illness,” Prof Shabir Madhi, who led the study, told the briefing.
    He said that the study had not been able to investigate the vaccine’s efficacy in preventing more serious infections, as participants had an average age of 31 and so did not represent the demographic most at risk of severe symptoms from the virus.
    Prof Sarah Gilbert, Oxford’s lead vaccine developer, said vaccines should still protect against severe disease.
    She said developers were likely to have a modified version of the injection against the South Africa variant, also known as 501.V2 or B.1.351, later this year.
    Experts say vaccines could be redesigned and tweaked to be a better match for new variants in a matter of weeks or months if necessary.
    Early results from Moderna suggest its vaccine is still effective against the South Africa variant, while AstraZeneca has said said its vaccine provides good protection against the UK variant first identified in the UK.
    Early results suggest the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine protects against the new variants.

    the REAL question you need to be posing, is why at a time of global humanitarian crisis (Covid), the powers to be continue to run arm-in-arm with Big Pharma. Realise the world HAS the production facilities to make billions of vaccine doses, if only, they would place a temporary halt on Patents.
    Yet, this is like you and the PPE, early in the Covid crisis. You were smart enough to buy your own supply, and you may share with a friend or 2, but not with the front line. Why? Politics. The blame could be placed on the current administration for not having the foresight.
    Big Pharma gets so much money from Big Guvment, and in turn, they kick back so much in ‘campaign contributions’, they are ‘untouchable’, even in a global crisis. Too much money to be made.
    Not that any one of these politrickians is capable of analyzing the savings to their own economy in terms of life and other costs, by having the WORLD vaccinated sooner. None of them really care about the ‘world’, do they?

    The problem with the Nation, Advocate and VOB is their dependence on the same dominant white businesses for advertising revenue.
    This in itself is an indictment of the black political class and its failure, after independence, to develop a more powerful majority owned business sector.
    Quite frankly it is nothing short of a miracle that both the Nation and Advocate have survived , in what is essentially a very hostile corporate environment for both established and emerging black owned businesses.
    As I have opined elsewhere, Barbados is the only country in the world where the majority population is actually begging for basic rights.

    At the end of this collective rant about racism and economic power things will remain the same. All Mottley and the Cattle Wash boys have to do is keep their heads down for a few weeks. This is who we are.
    As to the newspapers, Barbados has about 100000 households. What are the sales figures for the Daily Nation? What are the figures for the weekend paper?
    The Nation, the most successful of our newspapers (online and print) does not even reach half of the homes in Barbados.
    Then look at what we call the ad/ed ratio, the number of editorial pages to the number of advertisements; then look at the rate card for advertisements and you can work out roughly the revenue of the paper. Then we have costs.
    The Nation’s most expensive asset is it property on Fontabelle. The challenge for the Nation is to become relevant to ordinary Barbadians. So far it is benefiting from its near monopoly position.
