The breaking news that COB CEO Steve Belle has been suspended by the newly minted Board is not a trivial matter; it is a significant event for members and non‑members alike. A suspension at that level signals an investigation with enough gravitas that the Board felt compelled to suspend a long tenured executive. In the cooperative movement, where trust is key, such a move is of serious concern.

For decades, the credit union movement has been one of Barbados’ few genuine economic success stories – it represents a financial model that has enfranchised many Black Barbadians shut out of traditional banking.There is the potential for the proud legacy of the cooperative movement to be smeared.

And while the audited financials show no material weaknesses or adverse findings, the public does not read audit notes; the public only sees instability. This is where the Financial Services Commission (FSC) should be flexing. The FSC’s mandate is not only regulation but to nurture confidence building. Silence from the regulator in this moment leaves a vacuum that rumour, innuendo, and political mischief will happily fill, especially in the era of social media.

The blogmaster’s suspicion is this a clash between senior management and a new Board eager to assert control. But those “in the know” at City of Bridgetown credit union must understand that even loyal members grow skittish when it comes to who should guard personal savings . A credit union is not an office where decisions are made in a controlled bubble; it is a financial institution where perception alone can trigger a run on deposits.

The matter needs swift, transparent resolution. Any inflated egos in the COB boardroom should be deflated by dispassionate members. A word to the wise should be sufficient.

    LOOK HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN

    When certain “DAMNABLE TRUTHS” come to light – everyone on that LIL ROCK & farther afield will know who Steve Belle really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    At this mo’, I will reserve commentary & allow #LongAwaiting “DUE PROCESS” to take its course given the “UNTOLD” misery this man has caused & the venal sophistry of his actions in ruining someone I love dearly!!!

    WHEN I HEARD THE FANTASTIC NEWS A COUPLE DAYZ AGO – I BURST INTO A PENTECOSTAL FRENZY – THROWING UP TIMBER TO THE MOST HIGH ABOVE

    Like 16th century “REFORMER” Martin Luther who opined that he did not march an army of soldiers up to the gates of the Vatican to remove the “POPE” – but simply “WROTE”, “PREACHED” & “PRAYED” and the Catholic Church “FELL” – then suffered a “DEADLY WOUND” that came to a “HEAD” in 1798, when General Berthier walked into the Vatican – “ARRESTED” the Pontiff & dragged his “ARSE” off to France where he died in exile!!!

    Folks can “RUN DAY – TILL NITE CATCH UP WID EM” (citing my late precious Grandma)!!!

    ALL WICKED BASTERDS WILL HAVE THEIR DAY OF COMEUPPANCE

    The Bushman calls it “KARMA”, but her BIG BRO* is called “VENGEANCE” & He delivers “SWIFT JUSTICE”!!!

    First it was the acting Comptroller of Customs who felt the weight of “POWERFUL” prayers & “PSALMIST RETRIBUTION” – now, the #ShiiiitHead called Steve Belle…

    We all know who’s “NEXT”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    On that rather simplified note

  2. What nonsense from a local reporter!

    One who DARE NOT write a shiite about the $60 million missing from HOPE housing, the $millions unaccounted in STEAL Housing, the saga of Radical COVID vaccines, the ridiculous CARIFESTA ‘spendingmania’, or even about who actually told the Circus that it was OK to set up in the wannabe Botanical gardens…

    However a CEO in a credit union going on special leave, …where members have the benefit of an independent Supervisory Committee, an independent Regulator, …and the all powerful option to call a Special General Meeting to make whatever decisions they choose, is ‘in danger of destabilization’ because a CEO was sent on leave?!!
    What a joke!!

    If this occurred at one of our foreign-owned entities the ‘story’ would have a ten centimeter note on page 15.
    Black people NEVER cease to amaze stinking Bushie!

    A Board of Directors have every right to investigate whatever matters they see fit. This is PRECISELY why $60 million is NOT missing at any Credit Union, and why their accounts are audited and published EVERY damn year.
    It is only obvious that a long-standing CEO, who was actually due for retirement a while ago, would be asked to stand aside while such an investigation is conducted.
    This effectively occurs routinely whenever a CEO takes holiday in a well run organization. If there is nothing to be found out – just enjoy the damn beach time.

    Instead of writing shiite about things that she clearly do not understand, what Ms Bradshaw should be writing about is suggestions that a SIMILAR action be taken in our Parliamentary circles – so that we can have proper investigations into the MULTITUDE of scams being perpetrated on the Consolidated Fund …while even the known CLICO king is still walking bout the damn place free as a bird… apparently on lifetime ‘leave’…

    Steupsss
    Looka piss in the blogmaster’s pocket do!!!

    What a place!!

  3. @TB

    A person in a court of law is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. You are aware there is a credit committee whose role is to approve loans?

  4. @Bush Tea

    You have posited a self defeating argument. You cannot compare a credit union to a bank. Two different animals.

  5. @ David
    HUH??!! What bank?

    It is about a Board exercising its fiduciary responsibility in Barbados FOR A CHANGE.

    Wunna too accustomed to COVERING UP shiite …until all the money done get thief, the place rotten down (like Four Seasons,) and then there is just ‘Clear Waters’…

    If the Board of ‘East West North South Construction’ or of Hope Housing had acted like COB’s Board, all like now we would either have ACTUAL Steel houses and Hope houses – or we money would be still in the damn treasury.

    When Bushie talk about Bajans being BRASS and encouraging shiite, this is what the bushman means…

    Thank God that our Credit Unions still have leaders of PRINCIPLE and BALLS to carry out their assigned duties fearlessly… even in ‘La La Land’ where idiocy prevails.

    If Belle is truly worth his salt and has indeed done nothing wrong as he says, than what the Hell is there to shout about?
    What other COB CEO would now operate like the HOPE CEO did? … knowing now how the credit union operates?

    What we, especially the damn Press, should shout about is… that our highest Board – shaped as a ‘Cabinet’, clearly has no such balls or principles.

    What an inverted place!!

  6. @Bush Tea

    There is nothing wrong with the Board doing what it has to, the point you are failing to grasp – and the blogmaster’s point- if it is not dealt with swiftly, there will be consequences. It is a financial institution where success is hinged to members/customers confidence.

  7. “…if it is not dealt with swiftly, there will be consequences.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Give it up Boss.
    You must KNOW that you are barking up the wrong tree…
    It is PRECISELY because this is being dealt with swiftly by the new Board that this matter is being highlighted. And Bushie’s blind guess is that the new Board is there because MEMBERS wanted swift assurance that their Credit Union is NOT being run like the damn country.
    You want ‘swifter’ than a Board moving to get FACTS after their very first meeting?
    Bushie predicts that all will turn out to be well, Belle will enjoy his holiday …and return to continue the good work at COB.
    What can you say in comparison about HOPE …and STEAL…and Four Seasons… and BWA… and CBC… and BAMC…. and CARIFESTA?
    What a scam!
  8. ‘is ‘in danger of destabilization’ because a CEO was sent on leave?!!
    What a joke!!”
    Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
    The joke is on the joker. You need to reread the WHOLE article carefully and leave the woman alone.
  9. @Bush Tea
    The blogmaster does not know anything. As of this minute the issue is unresolved. Whether the matter is being dealt with swiftly is left to be seen when the final decision is taken.
  10. Where in the WOMAN / reporter’s report did she mention or slightly insinuated anything about destabilization?
  11. @John 2
    Bush Tea is understandably upset because he has been preaching the benefits of the cooperative approach for years in this space. And most agree that it is an ideal way to approach things.
    What he fails to accept is that a board of the second largest credit union suspending the CEO in Barbados is a big deal, it doesn’t matter if it turns out. All of us hop that it ends well because as stated by the blogmaster, it has wider implications.
  12. Why the need to focus on Caswell’s silence?
    Who have spoken about Hope? Carifesta etc?
    Belle says there is nothing to see – why publish comment about his having ‘done no wrong’? …to send what subliminal message?
    Who commented about the HOPE $millions that are KNOWN to be missing?
    So where is the woman’s report on the Hope project – now YEARS old and unresolved?
    Where is the report on the Radical vaccine scam? …which we only know of it because American courts seem to work…
    Where is the report on the many million spent on Carifesta?
    There is no need to mention destabilization here – the country now has to borrow, beg, and plead for ‘reparations’ as a result of these leakages…
    On the other hand, COB’s is a routine management process that PROACTIVELY prevents things like the lotta shiite that seems to be endemic bout here…
    Such management should be PRAISED and encouraged – not called out as a weakness… at least by those of us with clean hands.
    @ David
    Bushie cares nothing about COB.
    Suspend shiite!! …more subliminal messages…
    …Sending an official on paid leave is STANDARD good management practice.
    It is about a matter of PRINCIPLE!!!
    Bushie calls a spade a spade. If the COB Board’s approach was applied to Barbados, it is clear that we would be a lot more like Singapore…than like a Parro…
    But wunna want to plant sour grass …and reap sweet potatoes – but um don’t wuk so…
  13. @Bush Tea
    Allow us to disagree. When there was discord in the Barbados Public Workers a few years ago, we highlighted it in this space as well.
    It is worth commenting on even if you do not agree. Again, here is hoping the issue is resolved quickly.
  14. Did she lie on Caswell or attributed something to him that was false?
    Did Caswell objected to being quoted -I am sure he was well aware who he was talking to and that what he said/didn’t say would be reported.
    As a one of the longest bloggers on BU you should know about the eye catching headlines . If u call a spade a spade then u should admit that u are wrong and the FEMALE reporter never slightly insinuated anything about “ destabilization “.
    The WOMAN reportS on what she was assigned . The topics that u mentioned are old ( in the news cycle ) unless something new pops up.
    Can u state as a fact that this WOMAN reporter or her company NEVER reported on those topic the u are stuck on? Again , she reports on topics she is assigned / approved.
    I thank the lady for the article and the David for publishing it. I am not a member of COB but I know of member and workers there. Beside that being a member of the public workers and as a Bajan in general it good to know what’s going on
    I would put my head on the block that some of the things that u are writing about that u got the information from the same article.
    The WOMAN reporter did an excellent job! There are other things to report on besides politics and other audiences to satisfy.
    HER job is to help sell papers not satisfy Stinking Bushie
  15. @ John 2
    Steupsss!
    You probably still waiting with baited breath on the PM’s promised a HOPE report too…
    You should call yourself ‘John 2 naive’.
    Bushie don’t have that kinda shiite faith.
    “Mr Belle referred us to the new president, and new Board member Caswell Franklyn was unable to comment on the issue.”
    This is what would have been written if this was about Goddards or even Massy.
    @ David
    Public Workers incident?
    You mean when the FSC attempted to destroy that outstanding institution over what turned out to be a supplementary report that was a few months overdue?
    An FSC that has nothing to say about the TOTAL lack of reporting of the NISSS…?
    That has no comment on the stalled PAC or un-appointed Auditor General or Four Seasons…?
    That actually attempted to support BLPC’s court defense in the case of the missing $100m Insurance Funds that the FTC wants repaid…?
    Skippa…
    Just like the mentally enslaved Press, they too only have teeth when the infringements – or even just the appearance of abnormality – is with Black businesses.
    But Bushie really thought that most on BU were a bit more ‘enlightened…’
    What a place!!
    Anyway – the Boss will be sorting this all out, …and much sooner than we all think.
  16. Bushie
    Man admit yuh did wrong about putting “ destabilizing “ on the WOMAN . YUH JOKER. Instead of going all over the world.
    Yuh lie again.
    First -J2 never wait on anything from a politician. And especially something that have no effect on me.
    2. I am awaiting for u to show where the reported said or insulated anything about destabilization
    3. I also awaiting for u to published here on BU any evidence ( printed or video) of MIA promising anyone a HOPE REPORT .
    Here is my promise to u: Do #3 and I will not comment on BU again
  17. @John2
    You serious???
    https://barbadostoday.bb/2025/03/13/mia-says-hope-investigation-is-still-coming/amp/
    And this is just one found with a 20 second search. There are at least two other times on recall.
    @Bushie
    Only bout hey!
    @David
    The salient point of the post is taken. Moving the top boss responsible for millions of dollar will raise eyebrows. As you say, hopeful swift resolution is best for all.
    Bushie’s point about the 4th estate needs to be shouted from the mountaintops.
    Just observing
  18. @Bush Tea
    Whether you want to admit it or not, how COB responds to this matter could have wider consequences, this cannot be refuted. McClean and others dismissing concerns are exposing a bias by trivializing the matter. We note because of his privileged position, he shared that BELLE was sent on administrative leave and not suspended/
    We wait.
