Solutions Barbados – Playing With Fire

The unemployment situation in St George North is dreadful.  Disappointing voters with false promises is not an option in this by-election.  Candidates must offer workable plans, to effectively address the mass unemployment problems in St George North.

There are six candidates seeking to work for the people of St George North, for the next 30 months.   It is important that none of us follow the bad examples of those who have gone before us.

Candidates who plan to use the desperate unemployed people of St George North as pawns, just to secure a seat in the House of Assembly for their party, are doing the unconscionable.  They are ensuring that the people continue to suffer, during these exceptionally difficult times.  The present suffering is compounded by an unnecessary IMF austerity program, and a global COVID-19 pandemic.

Candidates who make promises that they know they cannot keep, are deceiving voters’ families.  Candidates who know that they have no capacity to implement their party’s plans, push that deceit beyond tolerable levels.

Career politicians have repeatedly broken their promises to previous generations of voters.  Those voters had the patience to tolerate and forgive those, who repeatedly deceived them with empty promises.
The current generation of young voters are different – they will not forgive that type of deceit.  Candidates without any workable economic plans for the families of St George North, are playing with fire.

When gline was minister at mtw he did many roads in SGN some that wer only cart roads or walking tracks he paved etc.

When DT was PM he did a few roads in st john. after DT passed the raods ALL OVER BARBADOS slowly eroded under the Destructive Lying Party.. it got to a point where i had to stop driving on certain roads.

If guyson dont understand how the imf arrive at it prediction on growth for next year then maybe he should ask young stuart before he coming publishing ignorance.

You are assuming that that spending in tourism industry will in 2021 revert to the 2019 level of activity.

Guyson Mayers has put forward much a more convincing argument and a more ‘realistic’ analysis of this ‘economic growth’ matter.

No forex earning activities, no ‘real’ economic growth for Barbados. It’s as simple as that.

What exogenous considerations are at play to support Guyson’s position. Talk is cheap.

  • i know the St John, St Phillip, CH Ch, St George areas of Bim very well and at no time did Gline Clarke fix all, or most of or a lot of the roads in St George neither north or south. if so why didnt he pave the road to Retreat and Cottage Tennant where his family is from, Flat Rock by Horace Holder’s wedding place, and Middleton etc. some of the roads were fixed under Clarke and some under the DLP according to whatever program they follow.

yes Clarke did a lot when he was at lands, cutting up land in St George, building those fowl coops and selling them. that to me is another insult to Bim. building 2 x 3 houses and calling them starter homes. what rot. and both parties have done it. the best starter homes were the Venezuelan project out there by the road to QC just after Prior Park. those were built with commonsense and room for expansion by placing the houses not in the middle of the small plot of land but near a boundary leaving room for the owner to build out eventually whilst still maintaining space between houses.

Back to Clarke- some people does really talk nonsense if they think they would be challenged.

in any case it should be a matter of dividing Bim in sections, north, east, west, Bridgetown and south and carry out road works and repairs that way. why does it have to depend on the whims of the party in power or who is the particular minister? have a plan and do it that way so that there is equitable distribution of resources given the usage and state of the roads.

the way we do things now depends a lot on political patronage which should not be on in this day and age given our stage of development.

The realities on the ground- especially in Barbados’s main tourism source markets- ‘support’ the ‘Guy’s’ position.

If under ‘ordinary’ circumstances Barbados found it very challenging to improve its economic position vis-à-vis the rest of the world (especially over the past 12 years) how on earth can it expect to grow ‘big’ in this Covid pandemic period which is crippling the world travel markets?

Even the IMF is ‘forecasting’ a possible return to the Economic Depression times of the 1930’s to make the 2008 recession look like a fly on a cow’s back.

If Barbados fared so badly from the 2008 blip how on God’s green earth can it ever contemplate double digit growth unless you are talking about the unemployment figures?

PS: The only way that 15 % economic growth ‘target’ can be achieved is if major projects are undertaken. Now where is that Hyatt Lighthouse when the SS Barbadoes needs it most?

u can have positive growth next year 21 and 22 but yet the economic activity is still less than 2019.

the growth the imf is talking about is when you compare economic activity in 2021 to that in 2020

in 2022 it will be compared to 2021.

it will take a few years before we return to the level of ecomonic activity of 2019 even if we have positive growth each year for those years.

The same “technocrats” better advise the current government to use that “wiggle room” to make as a top priority the ‘replacement’ of the South Coast sewerage plant and the building of a new one for the west coast.

There will be no future for tourism unless the sewage and garbage problems in Barbados are seriously tackled and fixed tout de suite.

Tourists will be extremely reluctant to visit a destination whose coastal wasters (and beaches) are not safe especially in these Covid pandemic times and growing concerns about the ecological status and environmental health of the planet.

Pumping shit(e) and dangerous chemicals in the sea (on which the Bajan brand of tourism is based) is nothing more than a guesthouse operator spitting in soup and serving it to guests.

    “The Chase Files –
Below you will find a Statement by Mr. Delisle Bradshaw, former Minister of Government published today – Saturday, October 17, 2020 on the Barbados Labour Party’s Facebook Page. I have read the statement and I am sure that party faithfuls will go to every extreme to defend the tirade which has gone viral on social media by saying comments were misconstrued. However, for those who may not be aware this statement is NOT an apology. It is a simply a political PR move- a poor one at that. Mr. Bradshaw at no time stated he was wrong. Furthermore he JUSTIFIED his actions by stating:
    1 – “I was reenergized by the prospect of a candidate…”
2 – “my comment, made in the heat of the moment….”
I am yet to read “I am sorry for the insults hurled which offended not only Floyd Reifer and cricket fans but the people of Barbados whom the Barbados Labour Party has promised to make a priority.” I know that the BLP is way better than the “mud slinging” we are seeing and hearing. 30-0 means we will hold you to the highest standard in our country’s political history.
This is not only about cricket but about the way people from certain sects are marginalized and viewed in our society.
Now let me take things a little deeper. The art of manipulation is not about making people do or think what you want them to do but rather getting them to WANT do what you want them to do. Any good political PR team knows that an apology is warranted but PRIDE stands in the way of admitting a BIG mistake was made.
For some the statement from Mr. Bradshaw will be good enough but for those who are not “idiots” and have a deeper understanding I will leave you with this quote:
“We live in a world where unfortunately the distinction between true and false appears to become increasingly blurred by manipulation of facts, by exploitation of uncritical minds, and by the pollution of the language.” ― Arne Tiselius

There is a ‘simple’ answer to your ‘enigmatic’ query:

We foresee no economic growth unless the current extremely large pool of unemployed people find jobs and the country attracts measurably significant foreign direct investment.

When we see those private sector projects exiting the investment pipeline then you will see light at the end of the economic growth tunnel.

How about getting the Hyatt Lighthouse project off the ground?

Hasn’t this economic sea-change project been around since Adam was a lad and growing up ‘crookedly’ stupid under the previous administration?

But you know, as a ‘numbers’ man yourself, US$ 175 million pumped into the Bajan economy is nothing to scoff at.

We can guess you will try to avoid that Hyatt lighthouse ‘red’ issue like a rat the pied piper man.

quote] yes Clarke did a lot when he was at lands, cutting up land in St George, building those fowl coops and selling them. that to me is another insult to Bim. building 2 x 3 houses and calling them starter homes. what rot. and both parties have done it. the best starter homes were the Venezuelan project out there by the road to QC just after Prior Park. those were built with commonsense and room for expansion by placing the houses not in the middle of the small plot of land but near a boundary leaving room for the owner to build out eventually whilst still maintaining space between houses.[quote

however, i dont expect that will change your mind about what you said. what did you hope to gain by half quoting me?

Mr Clarke although in parliament for 26 years was in opposition for ten of those years. The other question remains what are Mr Reifer, s plan and how will it be financed? As for Baje i guess manners and training was not part of ypur degree training because you behaving like a gutter rat or an old whore with your ranti ng and cussing like a madman.Tell us whose truth and facts you refering to yours?I told you ftom the time you appeared on here ranting and raving in caps like somebody took away your sweet life in 2018 that you cannot frighten or impress me .I do not care if you have three degrees or a hundred. You can take a pig out of the gutter but you can, t take the gutter out of the pig.I know you pimping about to respond but like i said Ms Mottley is PM until an election is called and THERE IS NOTHING YOU OR YOUR COHORTS CAN DO ABOUT IT BUT RANT AND RAVE UNTIL 2023.This is my last response to you jackass.

did you expect the BLP would be on the defensive in SGN?

why must the DLP articulate a rational position for voters to vote against the BLP and not the BLP propose why voters should vote for them? what is a rational position? arent voters experiencing life under the BLP regime?

correct, the old faces are tiresome with trite lines of argument and trite ideas especially those that are so typical of the BLP, “any idiot can be a cricketer.” that is the BLP in a nutshell- arrogant. they look down on the non elite but will tolerate a few for appeal to the masses

this election is local and that is how it will be won. Reifer is playing to his strength which is the home boy effect. the BLP want to play to their strength which is a national level appeal. that is the reason they want to debate on TV. the DLP should resist that and fight this by election in the trenches.

You recently made comment that somebody on BU is a baboon.
I would advise that you refrain from elevating people.
Here is a description of baboons:
“ The study of baboons can provide important insights into human evolution and behavior. Like us, baboons are highly intelligent, extremely social animals. Baboons are capable of both friendship and strategic interactions. They maintain long-term relationships with other individuals, both kin and non-kin”
I say no more but I think an apology to baboons is in order.

Sometimes one gets tired with the idiocy of some bloggers on BU. I can understand having differences of opinion, but this idiot drags my name in to his stupid party politics as if for fun. Does he think I will lose sleep if the BLP or/and DLP went out of existence?
What I do think is that the BLP supporters in St George North should vote for the DLP, however loyal; such a vote would not affect the BLP control of parliament, but it would send a message to the president that she is out of favour.

You done know that this is about Clarke and SGN. You place your emphasis on “Clarke, building fowl coops and selling them, and insult to BIM,” because your intention was to put those things in the readers minds so they could focus on Clarke in a NEGATIVE way.

You only say both governments do it to make people think you being neutral.

If you were really trying to be neutral, you would give examples from the DLP and call out either Lashley or Kellman.

  • @David,

i dont understand exactly what you are trying to convey there.

but were i in the DLP think tank i would use this election as a barometer as to how the public, at least the public in SGN, view the BLP. therefore i would not be putting out any specifics or if it must, speak in generalities as to how it would govern. you dont want to show your hand too early given what may attend us as a result of the fall out from Covid.

such specifics as to how it will govern should be well thought out and laid out notwithstanding changing local and international conditionalities by getting together a coterie of economists, social scientists, criminologists, unionists, credits unionists, farmers, ordinary folks etc.. when that is finished Verla should brief all potential candidates about the DLP platform for national and local governance and on how it the DLP intends to go about articulating and disseminating its platform to the general public. this should be accomplished by a year prior to the general election. altho there is a possibility of a snap election. so Verla should start now.

this is how the DLP should go about its business- in a professional and step by step approach.

this election is a kind of referendum on the BLP thus far. it feels to me that MAM and the BLP are surprised by the opposition as are the DLP and the other opposition themselves. i dont think any of them expected the BLP to be so defensive given its general popularity coming off an overwhelming general election victory and the goodwill that Clarke has built up in the constituency. it doesnt seem to have redound to Moore, at least from what i have read

I do not expect any of this will change your mind, but it is my last reply to you. I know you have a problem with the English language, but no normal human being can say what Thompson could have been, except you. He died in office after a short period, I said if he had continued.
Please remind me about CoVid. I remember asking for our epidemiological model to be made public. Last time I checked Mottley was not a public health expert, an epidemiologist or a medical scientist. I also said that Santia Bradshaw’s presentations were far better than Ms Mottley’s, and they were.
Has White Oak reached a full and final settlement with our external creditors? If so, plse cut and paste that result. Last December it was said that White Oak had reached a provisional settlement. I know English is a foreign language to you, but there is a difference between provisional and full and final.
As to your ignorance about Mr Knowall, I have never said on BU about being clever or highly qualified. In fact, on the contrary; I have told the truth that I can hardly write my name, like you.
I have always found it interesting that some BU regulars have always found education a challenge. One fool even calls me a polymath, as a form of insult.
But that form of insult goes right back to Ancient Greece, to Heraclitus, before Christ, and has come down through the ages to modern times. Even Isaiah Berlin used it as a form of insult.
Another regular condemns me for referencing sources of ideas and theories and, in real BU speak, called it name-dropping British intellectuals. That told me more about the limitation of his education than it said about my name-dropping.
I have always said that the Bajan Condition is an obsession with qualifications, while ignoring knowledge; the two above sum it up. I ignore you usually because I have worked out you are incapable of thinking.
It is only when the fabrications take root – some fowl called me a Roman Catholic for no obvious reason apart from scratching in her own mental backyard. There are others, such as being an independent financial adviser, and even after correction, continued with the nonsense for a period after. It took that person until recently to offer a kind of apology.
I realise that such abuse is a substitute for an inability to debate or even think, but that is OK. This is a Bajan blog. By the way, it is a week now since the Jamaicans have opened a digital bank in the UK. Bajans cannot even organise a community centre. That tells you something.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’m aware the above comment is a reference to me. However, its author is a LIAR……. or, to use one of the fools favourite words, ‘fabricator.’

Firstly, I NEVER, EVER REFERRED to any INDIVIDUAL in this forum, as “an independent financial advisor. That’s LIE #1.

I admitted referring to a particular individual as a ‘financial advisor,’ which he denied, and explained in the UK it’s against the law for anyone without the requisite qualifications and authority to so identify themselves.

In response, I ‘said’ I misinterpreted information that led me to believe the individual was an INSURANCE SALESMAN…… and EXPLAINED, in Barbados, those guys usually identify themselves as ‘financial advisors.’ I also explained I used term within in that context and NOT to identify someone who provides professional financial services to clients. I ACCEPTED his explanation and MOVED ON.

For them to mention today re: “and even after correction, continued with the nonsense for a period after,” is LIE #2.

Secondly, approximately two weeks ago, they referred to this same issue AGAIN. I responded by once again explaining the context in which I used the term ‘financial advisor,’ and admitted to moving on after they offered his explanation.

I THOUGH THAT WAS OVER AND DONE WITH, but it seems as though the individual held a séance to resurrect what I thought was a ‘dead issue.’ From the way how they have kept going, and going and going (‘Energizer bunny style’), with this nonsense, one would never believe this simple issue happened ALMOST FOUR (4) YEARS AGO.

Unfortunately, however, it’s CLEAR ‘moving on’ seems to be an EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TASK for him, because, ever so often, he KEEPS REFERRING to it, which is somewhat JUVENILE, and more so for anyone, according to Bajan vernacular, to ‘hold a grudge’ or ‘hold people in mind,’ over nonsense for so many years.

    GIVE IT A REST!!!!!!

Misinterpreted information from where? There is no information in this world that could ever suggest or hint at or imply that I have ever worked as an insurance salesman, in Barbados, UK or on Mars, or ever expressed in interest in any such position. It is the danger of Google, and of taking similar names and making false assumptions. There is no context for a fabrication.
