The FBI is investigating the death of George Floyd, black man who was pinned on the neck by a police officer and later died in custody. Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison joins The Beat with Ari Melber’s breaking coverage on the latest from the FBI and the protests. While the officers involved have yet to be charged, Ellison argues a “quick arrest” might “make people feel better about justice” it is “important” for investigators to “take the time to make sure that these charges, if they are brought forward, stick.

Before the British showed up African people were simply human beings, not negroes, not Blacks. The further identified as Shona, or Ndabele, or other national group, but it was the colonizers who blessed us with the culturally constructed notion of “Negroes” which evolved linguistically into “Black people”.

    It is both enlightening and amazing at the excuses that some can try to use to rationalise cold blooded murder.

    Our expressions generally exhibit our perceptions and outlook on life. That is where the enlightening or confirming of what is suspected, comes in.

    Anyone who does not see that this is a turning point is too used to the cushyness of watching TV and expecting same old.

    What I am seeing is far different this time. If that charge is not upgraded to first degree murder and the other participants are not charged, this is only just the beginning.

    Unfortunately, it will probably be going where Forty Acres is suggesting. I am against violence, but it is what it is.

    But then, very shortly you may actually see, for the first time, the NRA supporting gun control.

    The French imitated the British at a somewhat later date… they didn’t get around to creating the cultural construction of “Noir” until about 1685 with the “Code Noir”. The did steal some of it from the earlier Barbados legislation. Before that, African people were simply human beings, rather than “Noir(e)”.

It’s not fair of me to belittle you for not knowing because our colonial education tried very hard to make sure such truths were not known. My Harrison College education certainly never dealt with these facts, and it was said to be the best available when I was a boy.

    In Anglo American culture “Black people” is a social construction with deep historical roots. Contemporarily, they are the descendents of those who were defined as Negroes by “An Act for the Better Ordering and Governing of Negroes” passed by the Barbados legislature in 1661, and propagated throughout the British colonial empire by copycat legislation in South Carolina, Virginia and elsewhere.
    As you can see, from a sociological and jurisprudence perspective, “Black people” were invented by the British right here in Barbados. Does that not make you proud??

    Negro was the term used by the English in the 17th Century and it was used to differentiate beliefs, Negro and Christian.

    It was a term they came and found.

    The Arabs used the term Negro from centuries before.

    Many legal documents from the 17th century Barbados begin “To all Christian people present”

    It was possible for Negroes to become Christians in the 17th century.

    The Free Schools attest to that.

    HC was originally a Free School.

    Actually I provide material support to the best organization in Barbados that provide support to Black mothers and children who are trying to escape abuse. In addition I am reasonably often marching in the streets in Barbados in protest: three times in the past three years.

    Hmmm, how would a House Negro or Uncle Tom respond to the spectacle of Minneapolis police firing tear gas at majority Black and some White protesters? I would guess that such a person would take the side of the police and mansplain how reasonable the tear gas response was to the provocation of rock throwing and property damage.

    Then of course the House Negro would quickly interject how much they deplored the murder of Black people by the police. But such an Uncle Tom would have no suggestions at all for how to change a police department that protects one of their own who had been cited 18 times for illegal police brutality before he murdered George Floyd… this was not his first murder but he never before faced discipline or charges.

    An Uncle Tom would probably make ludicrously false statements about the effectiveness of violence in triggering necessary social change, saying something utterly stupid like “riots have never work” while ignoring all of human history like the 1937 riots in Barbados, the American Revolution, the Mau Mau rebellion to help kick the British out of Africa, everything Nelson Mandela worked for his whole life, the fact that had Black people not rioted in the USA the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would not exist… etc. etc.

    However the House Negro would remain convinced that he was an independent rational thinker instead of a self hating pathetic dupe of White supremacist ideology.

    The word “Negro” has an Iberian Peninsula usage with its Latin language origin.

    The word for black in Arabic is: ‘aswad’ and written in Arabic as أسود.

    Do you get that, the Bajan mulatto ‘Abid’?

    How could the black slaves ever be Christians when they were morally considered to be sub-human and legally classified as the property of their slave-owning white masters with similar status on the plantations as the horses used to transport the masters to church on Sundays and the donkeys and mules working in the mill yards.

    After spending 97 days in a hospital, the Canadian visitor who was shot during a home invasion in Barbados earlier this year is finally at home in familiar surroundings.

    Sixty-five-year-old Ken Elliott, who is paralysed from the waist down, was wheeled into his retrofitted home in Calgary by his wife Linda Brooks, who was present when the horrific crime occurred on February 22.

    Several news outlets in Canada reported on Elliott’s return home on Wednesday as he expressed relief.
    “I’ll be happier, and it really has had a demeanour change. In a word, it’s wonderful,” he said.

    Elliott added that being home was one step to healing from the shooting but he revealed that he would be closely watching the case as it unfolds in Barbados.

When the “13 Colonies” fought the British it was a “War for Independence”. It had to take the Haiti Revolution to let the colonial powers know that Black slaves can liberate themselves and slavery would come to an inevitable end. Well slavery toke a long time to end but black oppression is still here, near 200 years later.
    Most people worldwide (including the USA) that were born post WWII don’t have racist eyes. They by in large didn’t live in systemic racism. In the USA people see the ANACHRONISM that is “Trumps America”. That is why people from all races are rioting. I’m not a big fan of Biden but Trump is a dead man walking. As far as i’m concerned Biden can write his inauguration speech. If Trump is returned as President i can see worse coming.

    So what if Floyd had “heart disease”? So what if he had hypertension/high blood pressure? None of this relieves these P.O’s of responsibility for Floyd’s Murder.

    Criminal law, like Tort Law, requires everywhere that you take your victim as you find him (the so-called “egg shell” skull, and the glass jaw rule).

    As a matter of “expert opinion”, the government pathologist who eats, drinks and sleeps with the Minneapolis Police Department and, typically, sings for his supper predictably tried to muddy the waters. Ergo, his “opinion” that the victim, Floyd, did not die “from strangulations” by Chauvin.

    However, another, more independent expert witness will easily conclude that Chauvin’s criminal actions directly and proximately caused Floyd’s death.

    Worse than a dog. because I’ve never heard of anybody actually shooting a dog. And yet every black person. and specifically every young black man living in the United States or visiting the United States has to fear being shot by a white policeman or white police woman.

    Did not a white police woman shoot, St. Lucian Botham Jean less than 2 years ago, while he thought that he was safe because he was at home watching tv and eating ice cream?

    And didn’t she just get a slap on the wrist a ten year sentence for murdering a whole man.

    What happens to black men who murder white American women?

    Derek Chauvin deserves to be executed, and the others with him deserved 40 years on the inside.

    How could the black slaves ever be Christians when they were morally considered to be sub-human and legally classified as the property of their slave-owning white masters with similar status on the plantations as the horses used to transport the masters to church on Sundays and the donkeys and mules working in the mill yards.

    The policeman who murdered Bothan Jean, right in his own home received a ten year sentence. Will probably serve7 and be out happily married and doing the school run shortly thereafter.

    Tell me has a white policeman or woman even been executed for the murder of a black person?
