The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to soak up the resources for both under developed and developed countries. At the time of posting this blog the global medical community has been unable to inform about a vaccine. The blogmaster read the perspective of a leading Australian virologist recently where she opined that the world will have to live with the virus, in fact it will become as accepted as the Flu.

The disruption caused by COVID-19 will impact service based economies like Barbados and others in the reason where it hurts, in the breadbasket. One could rehash old arguments about the folly of putting all our eggs in one basket. If we are to work hard to move from the unsustainable position we find ourselves, we have to do more to shift our over reliance on tourism. Government’s current investment pipeline has signaled there are no immediate or medium term plans to modify the economic engines firing the economy.

If there ever was an opportunity to message our leaders there is an urgent need to reorder how we do business, it is now.

Since this news alert Italy is virtually on lock down. Thanks John A for always feeding the blogmaster with important information.

The local authorities based on public announcements and news coverage have been rolling out awareness campaigns, bumping up screening at ports of entry, building health infrastructure and leading discussions at the regional level to ensure a regional COVID-19 approach. Given the pandemic nature of COVID-19, it seems a matter of time before Barbados reports its first case. The biggest challenge for Barbados and service based economies is the fatalistic impact disruptions to global supply chains will bring.

I know that probably a couple hundred people had a hand in that speech, and I would bet anything that some of those officials disagreed with the blame the foreigner part of it, but they went with this speech which is much better than Trump let alone to tweet.

    While Trump tries to play down the severity of a public health crisis that might affect his reelection prospects, Fauci has laid out the best assessment of the true danger in stark terms.

    In testimony Wednesday on Capitol Hill, he warned that the coronavirus has a mortality rate 10 times as great as that of the flu, and refuted Trump’s rosy promise that a vaccine will be ready “in a fairly quick manner.” Fauci also said flatly that the government is “failing” when it comes to the urgent imperative of making widespread testing available.

    In 1986, Reagan’s surgeon general, C. Everett Koop, produced a report that described in graphic terms the potential toll of AIDS, projecting that 270,000 Americans might contract it by 1991. The report used explicit language, explaining that the disease was transmitted through “semen and vaginal fluids” and during “oral, anal and vaginal intercourse.”

    Conservatives approved of some of what was in Koop’s document: It warned against “freewheeling casual sex” and asserted that the surest means of preventing AIDS were through abstinence and monogamy. But they weren’t so happy with the surgeon general’s recommendation that condoms be used as a fallback.

    Koop was concerned that his findings were being buried by the Reagan administration, so two years later, he and Fauci cooked up a bold idea: mailing an abridged version of his report to every single one of the 107 million households and postal boxes in the country.

    The problem, however, was that the surgeon general lacked the budget to do it. As Fauci recounted to me during a 2018 interview, he told Koop: “You know, there is a mechanism called an interagency transfer.” Fauci had the authority to provide funds to get the project off the ground, because combating AIDS related to his own agency’s core mission.

    Congress picked up the idea and ordered the largest mass mailing in U.S. history. It also stipulated that the seven-page brochure be “distributed without necessary clearance of the content by any official, organization or office” — in other words, that it not be edited to suit anyone’s political agenda.

    In addition to being printed in English and Spanish, “Understanding AIDS” went out in Chinese, Portuguese, Haitian-Creole, Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian and Braille. It debunked many myths about the disease, for instance stating unequivocally that AIDS is not spread by mosquitoes, and could not be caught through casual contact with saliva, sweat or toilet seats.

    You have missed the point that I was making and have jumped to a hasty conclusion, The globalist exist in both parties. Why did Trump before the mid -terms failed to get backing for the wall? There are members of both parties who do not want to stop exploiting the cheap labor of undocumented migrants from Mexico.. On reflection, you might want to modify your sentiments.

    As for the Aloe Vera smell, you can try adding a perfume to which a surfactant like liquid soap has been added : then mixed every thing in a high speed blender to homogenized the mixture, including the Aloe Vera. You need to remove the skin part of the Aloe Vera. The surfactant causes the dispersion of the ingredients into both the water phase and organic phase of the mixture. The perfume should reduce the smell of the Aloe Vera.

    Two males aged 63 and 67, who came into the island on March 7 from Trinidad, having travelled from Malaysia by way of Dubai and London. They presented at hospital on March 11.
    One male 36, who travelled from Manchester, England. He was taken to hospital from his hotel via ambulance on March 11.
    One male, 31, a Jamaican overseas ship worker who came in from the Canary Islands via Portugal and Miami. He arrived in the island on February 25 and presented to hospital with symptoms on March 10.
    One male, 58, who is the father of the first patient who was confirmed with COVID-19. He was discovered ill at home on March 11.
    And one female, 34, who is a close contact, also of the first patient who was confirmed with COVID-19 on the island.
    The Ministry of Health and Wellness also announced that the first patient who tested positive for COVID-19 attended the funeral of the late Gloria Clarke held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 and the interment that followed at the Meadowrest Memorial Gardens.

    The Ministry is asking all persons, who attended the funeral service and / or burial to make contact by calling any of the following numbers:”

    BAMC and BADMC …Did you write these entities and enquire about the King grass, it’s importation to be grown here(already here) and its impact on the agricultural sector as a new weed to contend with?

    The BWA …. Have you enquired from the BWA as to the whether the will be able to meet the requirements need by such a facility?

    The residents… Have they been individually polled and comments, questions recorded from them to demonstrate the actual rejection of residents and business who live with areas close enough to be directly affected, impacted( and how) by the daily operation of the plant. Also by any possible disaster at the plant.

    I note that the response from amnesty international and other international agencies have been lukewarm at best.

    What about CARICOM … Have you checked the energy policy signed by the heads of government to see whether this project is in breach …. Which may allow you to go directly to the CCJ for redress… Since this is touted as an energy project.

    Kammie… There you have it… And there is more that is needed… If you attorneys do those things at a minimum, i strongly believe that a court will grant an injunction…

    Tour attorneys will be able to put everything in context.

    Focus on the CCJ but access them through the domestic court. That way you will not be face with enforcement issues in the same way that the lawyers who represented Myrie encountered.

    My contention is at the very least the CCJ will hear you… On a breach of the energy policy …the local court will hear you on the environmental aspects and the water scarce issues and possible harm as a result.

    The headline story in today’s Nation is misleading. It quotes a Vincentian doctor who says that the COVID-19 case that was in Barbados intransit from the UK to St Vincent would not have infected others because she had no symptoms at that point. This, unfortunately, is nonsense. COVID-19 virus transmission from infected people with no symptoms is proven to be commonplace.
