  1. CONGRATULATIONS to the West Indies for their 2 – 0 series win over Bangladesh, with what our sports commentators called an ‘under strength team.’

One of my disappointments with the batsmen is their failure to convert 50s into 100s. Although Bonner, DaSilva and Joseph scored 90, 82 and 92 respectively, which gave the team an advantage, as Mike King would say, people don’t remember 90s, they remember 100s.

It’s also about time Kraigg Brathwaite improves his game.

But, it was a good overall effort from the players.

  2. Good win by West Indies.

    Courageous captaincy by Kraigg Brathwaite.

The team played real test cricket.

  3. @ Artax,
For goodness sake man, just rejoice in the news that the West Indies have won a test series and two matches in a row! Why focus on the negative!

This is as good as it gets.

I hope that the selectors will stick with this team without making wholesale changes.

  4. @ TLSN

What is negative about congratulating the team for their 2-0 series defeat of Bangladesh and asking the batsmen to try converting 50s into 100s? Isn’t that encouraging them to do better?

    You guys simply amaze me.

It’s ironic, however, every time I read your contributions to other blogs, especially on COVID-19, I likewise ask myself why (you always) “focus on the negative as well.”

  5. Congrats to the West Indies.

  6. Artax,

Funny you should say that! I was just reading his latest contributions to the crypto-racism blog where he appears to write off all hope for those of us who remain in Barbados.

These people accept bold-faced racist shite overseas and expect immediate perfection here. I accept that Barbados is a work-in-progress and I am happy to be a part of the work and the progress. And quite frankly, you, Cuhdear Bajan and I seem to be far happier than many of the miserable overseas contingent. (Please note I said many and not all.)

Many days I come to BU in a good mood and their negativity brings me down.

  7. I can’t recall the last time we won back-to-back test matches. Bangladesh are no mugs in their own back garden. I believe they whitewashed as in the recently played one-day series.

All I ask is that the Windies continue to make incremental improvements. To be honest with you Artax, even in the good old days I was critical of the West Indies. I always expected them to play perfect cricket over the full five days.

This series victory is momentous. Let’s just revel in that. What are the chances of us repeating a similiar feat? I believe slim to none.

    @ Donna,
Apologies. My intentions are good. All I desire is a change in the fortunes of our ancestors who reside on the rock.

  8. @ Donna

It is a select few that turns the serenity of BU into a toxic environment.

I have difficulty trying to understand how these people could wake up every morning to come on BU for the sole purpose of FOCUSING on EVERYTHING POSSIBLE that’s NEGATIVE. And, they bring that negativity to EVERY article posted to this forum for discussion.

I’ll be the first to admit Barbados isn’t a perfect society, but it’s not the hell hole as some of them want us to believe.

  9. It is easy Artax, they are not #realbajans.

  10. @ David,
Please could you define the term “a real Bajan”.
    Disappointed with your comments.

  11. A real Bajan is one who has the capacity to be balanced in their views. A real bajan is one who have the ability to see the good, bad and in between.

    #etc

  12. @David,

Chris Gayle continues to build his brand. Universe Boss has skills.

Shai Hope scored a classy century today. He is probably the best West Indies batsman currently,

  13. @Hants

Congrats to Hope. He seems to do well in that version.

  14. It has been reported that Marvellous Marvin Hagler, the all time great middleweight boxer has passed away.

I remember when he fought in England against a white British boxer in a world title fight when racial tension was off the scale; as can be seen in the shocking scenes after the fight.

    RIP Marvellous Marvin

  15. Great achievement by this Bajan batsman.

“Clipped into the onside, and that brings up 3,500 runs for Shai Hope. He’s the fourth quickest to that mark, behind only Hashim Amla, Babar Azam and Viv Richards

  16. Lakmal to Holder, SIX runs
An absolutely monster six over midwicket seals the game and the series.

  17. Congratulations West Indies team.

  19. I’m surprised I haven’t seen any comments so far, from BU’s cricket enthusiasts about the ‘axing’ of Jason Holder as WI test captain and Kraigg Brathwaite being selected as his replacement.

And, congratulations to the WI ODI team for their series ‘white wash’ of Sri Lanka.

  20. @ Artax,

imho Jason Holder will improve as an allrounder without the burden of captaincy.

That is the good that will come out of this change.

  21. Enjoy!

  22. @ Hants

    Yes, I agree.

Holder is currently at # 1 in the ICC player rankings for test all-rounders, ahead of players such Ben Stokes (England), Ravindra Jadeja (India), Ravichandran Ashwin (India) and Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh). The only other WI player in the top 20 is Royston Chase, who is at # 12.

Perhaps with the burden of the captaincy off his shoulder, he could concentrate more on improving his overall performances.

However, after I saw the direction in which the Ricky Skerritt administration was going, i.e. overturning decisions made under Cameron’s tenure and appointing Pollard to captain the ODI and T20 teams, I expected Holder to be replaced as test captain as well, not with Brathwaite, but Darren Bravo.

I believe Bravo’s ‘lost of form’ made the task a bit more difficult, since they wouldn’t have been able to justify his promotion.

  23. @Artax

    Polittics involved in every thing.

  24. I here watching Kyle Mayers playing some glorious shots through the offside.

Cricket is still my favourite sport to watch.

People such as you amaze me. You’re a hypocrite.

    I’ll give you an example.

A few weeks ago after the WI won the series against Bangladesh I wrote:

Please ‘tell’ me what are the fundamental differences between asking the batsmen to convert 50s into 100s……. and you asking the team “to make incremental improvements?”

    That’s how you guys operate.

Despite what YOU may believe, from what I’ve read, Hal Austin is as similar as the average guy on BU. The reality is, he’s not exceptionally intelligent as you and him would want us to think he is.

  27. Bajans shining.

    Jason Holder 5 wickets

    Kemar Roach 3 wickets

  28. Congratulations to Jason Holder for his five (5) wicket haul and Kemar Roach for taking three (3) wickets.

Let’s hope the batting performances improve.

Hants, you anticipated Holder would improve as an all-rounder without the burden of the captaincy.

Perhaps this is the beginning phase.

  29. At tea, Sri Lanka is 148 for 1.

The odds of a win probability have now moved in favour of Sri Lanka – 49% to WI – 32% victory and 19% drawn match.

  30. Sri Lanka = 175 for 2.

  31. Sri Lanka = 476 for 9.

  32. Good news for the Caribbean region.

    You love your sports LOL

  35. “I have just seen your comment and will not respond. Have a pleasant evening,” is essentially a response.

You have a pleasant evening as well.

  36. Kraigg Brathwaite makes another century. Good captains innings.

    Rahkeem Cornwall another 50.

  37. Kraigg Brathwaite will be playing county cricket in England this year for Gloucestershire.

Sheffield United and former Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, Nottingham Forest left-back Tyler Blackett and Stoke City attacking midfielder Tom Ince are some of the biggest names who qualify to play for the Barbados Tridents through their parents.

AFC Wimbledon’s 19-year-old Nesta Guiness-Walker and 21-year-old New York Red Bulls midfielder Dru Yearwood are also eligible.”
