Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to soak up the resources for both under developed and developed countries. At the time of posting this blog the global medical community has been unable to inform about a vaccine. The blogmaster read the perspective of a leading Australian virologist recently where she opined that the world will have to live with the virus, in fact it will become as accepted as the Flu.

The disruption caused by COVID-19 will impact service based economies like Barbados and others in the reason where it hurts, in the breadbasket. One could rehash old arguments about the folly of putting all our eggs in one basket. If we are to work hard to move from the unsustainable position we find ourselves, we have to do more to shift our over reliance on tourism. Government’s current investment pipeline has signaled there are no immediate or medium term plans to modify the economic engines firing the economy.

If there ever was an opportunity to message our leaders there is an urgent need to reorder how we do business, it is now.

COVID-19
Since this news alert Italy is virtually on lock down. Thanks John A for always feeding the blogmaster with important information.

The local authorities based on public announcements and news coverage have been rolling out awareness campaigns, bumping up screening at ports of entry, building health infrastructure and leading discussions at the regional level to ensure a regional COVID-19 approach. Given the pandemic nature of COVID-19, it seems a matter of time before Barbados reports its first case. The biggest challenge for Barbados and service based economies is the fatalistic impact disruptions to global supply chains will bring.

  1. @Freedom Crier at 10:17 a.m.? ” GLOBAL DEPOPULATION FOUL PLAY.”

If I was a bad guy, and I am not a bad guy. If I wanted to depopulate the world I would not use corona which is killing mostly old men who are no longer ableto get erections, and old women whose ovaries have long since dried up.

Did it not strike you as it did me that perhaps a good number of these old people have spent a lifetime smoking tobacco and whose lungs are therefore already compromised?

But what do I know? i am only a silly woman.

  2. @ Silly Woman March 10, 2020 12:54 PM

“There is NEVER any need to take up arms against anybody. Human beings are quite capable of harming themselves.”

That is why blacks are always being subjugated by other races. At times some blood must be shed ( note I am not afraid to Volunteer).

  3. Silly Woman,

Trust you to get a laying hen while all I get is the shitty rooster. lol. Typical. When he shits in my yard the cleanup is mine so I guess when she lays in your yard the baking is yours.

Thanks for the tips. Been doing some research myself. In the meantime, my mason brought me some lovely cassava just yesterday. Nothing like a “gi to muh”.

  4. @robert lucas March 10, 2020 2:58 PM

Of course every living organism has the right to defend itself against aggressors. No problem there.

But attacking others? Nope. Mother Nature has more than enough weapons in her arsenal. She doe not need any help from puny human beings.

  5. DAME BAJAN

    Cassava is grown in florida
    where are you located?

  6. Not one waiting to be told by anyone how to manage my life
I have stocked up on all necessary health supplies and canned items also pkg goods including water to last me for six months
The govt here has dragged its feet believing that this virus would eventually disappeared but the writing on the wall says different
In meanwhile in international countries as lockdown occurs and people fight over food supplies and basic necessities govt decided to hold a meeting
But then again nothing new here this was to be excepted as always after the horse has bolted

    So much for conventional wisdom!!

  9. A couple observations, the reported case in Jamaica entered the country last Wednesday WITHOUT showing symptoms.

Interesting to note Atherley, De Peiza and Clarke head of the private sector have thrown support behind the prime minister and government. They have answered the cry for national unity.

  10. Did govt roll out any initiatives as to what steps the people must take in case of food shortages

  11. @ Silly Woman March 10, 2020 3:50 PM

    “But attacking others?”

You attack before they attack you(pre-emptive attack just like Israel did in the six-day war) none of this turning the other cheek.stuff.._

  13. Coronavirus outbreak raises question: Why are bat viruses so deadly?
Bats’ fierce immune systems drive viruses to higher virulence, making them deadlier in humans

    Summary:
A study of cultured bat cells shows that their strong immune responses, constantly primed to respond to viruses, can drive viruses to greater virulence. Modelling bat immune systems on a computer, the researchers showed that when bat cells quickly release interferon upon infection, other cells quickly wall themselves off. This drives viruses to faster reproduction. The increased virulence and infectivity wreak havoc when these viruses infect animals with tamer immune systems, like humans.

A minister in Boris Johnson’s government has tested positive for coronavirus.

UK Health Minister Nadine Dorries said on Tuesday that she had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Dorries had reportedly met with MPs and Johnson over the past week, prior to her diagnosis.

It’s not yet known how Dorries contracted the virus or if she spread it to anyone else.

Six people in the UK have died after catching coronavirus.”

  15. Usually it is the poor who get their butts kicked when these viruses raise their ugly heads
But glad to see the wealthy getting their share of butt kicking from Corona
Wont be surprised suicides amongst the wealthy from the financial fall out
If world transportation comes to a screeching halt for the delivery of goods and service one can say it is all over for big Corporation
One thing that can be said of the poor they know what it is like to be poor and have mastered the art of survival

  16. @ Silly Woman March 10, 2020 11:33 AM
โ€œIn the annals of human history there has been and still is no comparable demographic catastrophe.
Those indigenous people were also Godโ€™s people, created by his own hands, in his image and likenessโ€ฆthey died like flies but did not rapture them.โ€

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It seems, in a rather gratifying way, that you are learning well.
    Keep it up!

But just remember that the same โ€œdemographic catastropheโ€ suffered by those heathens and pagans of the โ€˜New Worldโ€™ took place under the banner of โ€˜European Christianityโ€™ including Anglicanism.

So which was more catastrophic in the eyes of your god Yahweh?

The slaughter of thousands of innocent boy-children by King Herod (from whom you have copied his blueprint as a โ€˜practicalโ€™ solution to the violence committed by males)?

Or the massacre of the indigenous people of the Americas including the ancestors of Robert Lucas?

Even your Yahweh would have been pissed to see what happened to the โ€œSix Millionโ€ of his favourite people in Europe during the late 1930โ€™s to early forties.

The history of humankind is replete with cases of self-inflicted culling to keep the biggest parasites on the planet in check.
When that fails to meet Mother Natureโ€™s โ€˜demographicโ€™ targets then Gaia has to send in Her microscopic army equipped with weapons of mass destruction to complete the job.

  17. Miller,

There will always be people who misinterpret the religion. It was the Anglicans who were flawed not the Anglicanism.

Were there no sun worshipers who committed atrocities?

  18. I don’t believe that the “New World” was new. It only seemed new to the people who came, but it had been here all along. I don’t believe that the indigenous peoples of the “new World” are or were heathens and pagans.

Why would you ever think such a thing?

  19. There is only one creator God. So why would she create chosen people and pagans.

    Aren’t all peoples her children?

  20. Donna March 10, 2020 9:50 PM

Of course there were sun worshippers who committed atrocities against their fellow human beings.

Weren’t the Aztecs and Incas (like the Egyptians and Romans) mass murderers themselves even under the guise of human sacrifices to the gods like the Israelites of old?

At the end of the day-or more appropriately, when the Sun sets- all humans (and other animals) are the subjects of the same Sun.

Just look around you and your โ€˜blindโ€™ eyes will be opened by the Light.

Your protectionist defense of Anglicanism can be applied also to Roman Catholicism; a simple case of six being half-dozen, not so?

As the Xtian fundamentalists would argue: โ€˜We hate the sin but love the sinnerโ€™.

Below is my favourite prayer from your story book of Jewish tales:

    [May]
โ€œThe Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.โ€

  21. @ Silly Woman March 10, 2020 9:50 PM

So what were they in your Judeo-Christian understanding? Idolaters?

They clearly were not Jews nor Christians or even Muslims from the Abrahamic tree of religion.

PS: How dare you refer to your bible โ€œGodโ€ as Female? Isnโ€™t that blasphemy of the highest order? You taking your feminist views a bit too serious, ya hear?
Not even Ms Donna would support you on crossing that bridge.

If Yahweh is female then what does that make the virgin Mary?

  22. Miller,

Did you really think you had to enlighten me about the Aztecs and the like? Miller, I have always read everything I get my hands on. The question was rhetorical.

I have told you MANY TIMES that my defence of Anglicanism and Christianity extends to any other religion that preaches peace and love for ALL God’s creatures but each time we interact you seem to put me in some kind of small box labelled “Blind and unenlightened”. Are you having memory problems?

As for whether or not I would join Silly Woman in calling God “she” I would again have to ask if you are having memory problems. I have done so before and also used He/She, spoken of God as mother and suggested that we create a new pronoun since He/She is cumbersome. You would also be surprised to know that my use of He
/She was legitimized by one tutor at Codrington College who spoke of the words used to describe the Holy Spirit in certain languages as being feminine.

P.S. As a small child, my younger brother always spoke of God as “She”. That, I surmised even then, was because in his small world it was our mother who laid down the law. My father was more laid back. In a male-dominated society, God would naturally be spoken of as “He”. Even as a young girl I figured that one out.

Please, stop trying to place me in you box! You haven’t got one big enough.

  23. ‘That should be “your box”.

  24. So now there is an urgency to diversify away from dependency tourism, only now that you have passed the brink of being ECONOMICALLY SCREWED….when in the best interest of your majority population yall should have diverisified over 35 years ago from that racist shite that never served the majority’s best interest and never fully paid the island’s bills. You will now pay for your arrogance and backwardness and your kowtowing to and colluding with filthy minorities to keep your people in economic bondage for the last 80 years…..uppity asses.

“The threat of the Coronavirus is yet another reminder that Barbados can no longer afford to put all of its eggs in the tourism basket.

This is the view of Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley, who is concerned that the rapid spread of the deadly virus has the potential to stagnate this countryโ€™s bread and butter industry.

In a recent interview with Barbados TODAY, Atherley urged the Mia Mottley- administration not to ignore this latest warning about the urgent need for economic diversification.”

  25. This is what your PRETEND intelligent PM wants to pick up 50 Black Bajans and send them into toxic, racist UK as slaves to experience….this only happened last month, let’s see if she tries to FORCE A START UP SLAVE TRADE of her own people, while everyone is watching.

Kamarl Nelson, 19, seen here four years ago, was allegedly assaulted by security guards at Old Trafford, Photograph: Manchester United brochure

Police are investigating claims of a racially-aggravated assault at Manchester Unitedโ€™s football stadium, after a 19-year-old who used to play for the clubโ€™s youth development team said he was attacked by security guards and left with a fractured eye socket as he tried to get to his job at the ground.

Greater Manchester police confirmed on Tuesday that they were looking into a report of a public order offence and assault by two men at Old Trafford on 27 February.

Alleged victim Kamarl Nelson, who had also been a ball boy for the club and will go to university to study football science later this year, was on his way to work on a cleaning shift when the incident happened. The community interest company Kids of Colour said that he had been called โ€œa slaveโ€ before being slammed against a wall and hit in the stomach by guards who disputed that he worked at the stadium.

Controlled Solutions Group (CSG), which is contracted to run security operations for Manchester United, has strenuously denied the allegations against its employees.

In a post on Twitter, Kids of Colour said guards had not believed Nelson worked at the stadium, despite him arriving in a uniform with Manchester United labels and having worked there for six months.

They also claimed that a guard said he was โ€œsurprised I didnโ€™t find a knifeโ€ to the teenager after searching his bag.”

Good Morning Big Bruh & top of the morning to you & yours!!!

Before I run off, I just wanted to KICKSTART* this ongoing discussion on COVID-19 & the therapeutics that could possibly assuage the virulence of this nefarious disease upon the land!!!

At the cellular level, biochemical reactions are mediated (ie: are made possible) by the action of enzymes ( a substance that increases or retards the rate of a biochemical reaction: in chemical reactions enzymes are called catalysts). Enzymes have sites at which the reactants are adsorbed( not absorbed) since the reactions are basically what are known as surface reactions. Zn is also adsorbed at these receptor sites on the surface of the enzyme. If the receptor site has a greater affinity for Zn than it has for the reactants, Zn is adsorbed preferentially, thereby blocking any reaction between the reactants ,thus disrupting the biochemical process.

  28. Some on this blog have bee critical of Barbados’ state of readiness for COVID-19. The tension is good and we are seeing the urgency demonstrated on the ground. What is embarrassing is the confusion in the USA.

  29. In today’s media
Bert Meets Corona as Mottley speaks of meeting with the IMF for renegotiation
Meanwhile another hinting of job losses
One can expect that if the IMF gives breathing room a longer pay load would most likely increase our interest rate on the loan muliplied by adfitional fees incurred some of which might be late payments
Wish barbados well as Corona makes its presence known in our economic cycle

  30. You should wish the world well. This is a pandemic and Barbados is and has always been receptive to external shocks.

Let us hope as a country we emerge from the crisis full in the knowledge we have to change the way we do business. We have to change our attitudes. We have have to reorder the economy.

Importantly, the silly adversarial positions for the good of party over country need to be tossed throw the window.

  31. Changing the way you do business is one thing, your vicious sell out PM creating an environment for her own people to be sold into slavery via a start up slave trade of low paid farm labor which would evenutally morph into no paid labor is a huge problem for Black Bajans and Caribbean people eventually if this savage is allowed to get away with it….if Bajans sit on their asses and allow it to take traction and spread to the other islands.

I have been warning and warning that slave traders are sniffing around again and they know you have a sell out government who believe they are intelligent and slick.

Let’s hope Corona virus does it’s job on these dirty slave traders..since it is quite clear that the Divine never sleeps….

Continue keeping your head in that shite bible and praying and before long you will be shackled slaves agains, thanks to your no good black face leaders…because the Dutch are jst as eager to resume slavery…is Kooyman not dutch.

“A third of people in the UK believe Britainโ€™s colonies were better off for being part of an empire, a higher proportion than in any of the other major colonial powers, a global survey has revealed.

Britons are also more likely to say they would like their country to still have an empire than people in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany or Japan, the YouGov polling found.

The results were shared with the Guardian as Britain prepares to find a new place in the international order after Brexit. They have been interpreted by some as a proxy for high levels of nationalist sentiment. Conservative voters were almost twice as likely as Labour voters to yearn for Britain to still have an empire, while Brexit-supporting leave voters were more than twice as pro-empire than remainers.

The results were described as โ€œalarmingโ€ by Oku Ekpenyon, who is leading a campaign for Britain to erect a new memorial to the transatlantic slave trade, which has so far failed to attract government backing. She said they raised questions about British education on colonial topics and highlighted the countryโ€™s tendency towards nostalgia.

Only the Netherlands appears to be more proud of its imperial history than the UK. Half of Dutch respondents said it was something to be more proud of than ashamed.”

  32. Continue keeping your head in that shite bible and praying and before long you will be shackled slaves agains, not only you but your CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN and centuries of your future generations, this time it will not be a small 400 year experience of UK savagery and brutality but 4,000 years or more, thanks to your no good black face leadersโ€ฆbecause the Dutch are just as eager to resume slaveryโ€ฆis Kooyman not dutch.

the negros in the parliament are sell outs, try to remember that next election and get the dirty lowlifes out.

Picking up real quick from where we left off: as was cited earlier, #Zinc as a dietary supplement would not have the same efficacy on the #Coronovirus in the way one would expect – however, #Chloroquine is a Zinc Ionophore which is the Rocket Launcher or the Effective Trojan Horse to get the ZINC* delivered directly into the cellular structure of your RNA…

Chloroquine has had peer-reviewed science to back it in regards to death-sentences like the Malaria Virus & as any #African man, woman or child who has ever been infected knows the trauma of what it means to succumb to such a rabid disease & its aftermath!!!

Chloroquine can be accessed by a simple prescription from your GP or doctor in whatever town, village or city you live in…

You can also “GOOGLE” it & buy it from a reputable source but your doctor & the local pharmacy is always your best bet!

If you are stricken by this disease, it does NOT* have to be a #DeathSentence & it does not have to rob you of your physical well-being either!

“Take Action” for yourself & that of your family & loved ones!

    I LOVE Y’ALL & be wise & be careful!

  34. @DAVID

The “HOLY BIBLE” cites a very interesting paradigm which says: “WHERE THERE IS NO VISION PERISH (#DIE)..” (Proverbs 29:18)…

‘The COVID-19 Central Clinical Task Force, (in South Korea) composed of physicians and experts treating the confirmed patients across the nation, held the sixth video conference and agreed on these and other treatment principles for patients with COVID-19…’

QUESTION: WHY IS ITALY IN LOCKDOWN? IS ITALY A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY? ARE NOT CROSS-BORDER MEDICAL INFORMANTS SHARING KNOWLEDGE?

    #SMDHID

‘For the antiviral treatment, the doctors recommended lopinavir 400mg/ritonavir 100mg (Kaletra two tablets, twice a day) or chloroquine 500mg orally per day…’

‘As #Chloroquine is not available in Korea, doctors could consider #Hydroxychloroquine 400mg orally per day, they said. There is no evidence that using lopinavir/ritonavir with chloroquine is more effective than monotherapies, they added.’

THIS THERAPEUTIC HAS BEEN AROUND FOR OVER A DECADE TO TREAT AFRICAN WHO CONTRACTED MALARIA & NOW VOILA – IT HAS EFFICACY ON THE CORONOVIRUS (HALTING ITS RAMPAGE)!!!

Again, “My people suffer from a lack of knowledge says the Prophet, Hosea!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Is this after putting all its economically-dependent eggs in the hol(e)y and fickle tourism basket?

What the people ought to be demanding, and rather urgently, from their government is what is happening to the ex-CLICO plantation lands which by the sweat of their brows they have to pay taxes to bail out โ€˜investmentโ€™ gamblers (except those holding pension plans).

What plans does the MAM administration have for these former fertile high rainfall agricultural lands?

Does it plan to plant houses for imaginary wealthy individuals and not natural healthy foods and fruit trees instead of borrowing forex from the loansharks to import junk and NCDs executioners from ASEAN countries and China where food hygiene is the passport and ready visa for viruses?

    โ€˜We are what we eatโ€™!
Just look around Bim and see the true meaning of that statement. Canned and packaged food (not in skins) is the slow poison of the nation.

  36. @DAVID

PEER-REVIEWED SCIENCE THAT IS NOW AT THE FOREFRONT BUT WHERE IS THE #WorldHealthOrganization ON THIS ISSUE???

    Again, #VOODOOSCIENTISTS!!!

Complacency or just #MoreSPIN by the Medical Establishment while Italy is in the throes of a dystopian nightmare & people like my brother Patrick aka Earl & family may very well be wondering & asking what in the world is going on with their country!

The science from “studies have shown that Chloroquine Phosphate (chloroquine) had a wide range of antiviral effects, including anti-coronavirus….”

“Here we found that treating the patients diagnosed as #NovelCoronavirusPneumonia with chloroquine might improve the success rate of treatment, shorten hospital stay and improve patient outcome…”

    Uncontested findings!!!

All that’s needed now is – RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIALS!!!

NO ONE HAS 2 DIE FROM COVID-19 (UNLESS IT IS YOUR TIME)!

According to Clinical Trials Arena – “Data from the drugโ€™s studies showed โ€˜certain curative effectโ€™ with โ€˜fairly good efficacyโ€™…”

‘According to Sun, patients treated with Chloroquine demonstrated a better drop in fever, improvement of lung CT images, and required a shorter time to recover compared to parallel groups…’

‘The percentage of patients with negative viral nucleic acid tests was also higher with the anti-malarial drug…’

‘Chloroquine has so far shown no obvious serious adverse reactions in the more than 100 participants in the trials…’

Mr Blogmaster, yours was an interesting point when u said : “Some on this blog have bee critical of Barbadosโ€™ state of readiness for COVID-19. The tension is good and we are seeing the urgency demonstrated on the ground. What is embarrassing is the confusion in the USA.”

The critique of our local readiness was welcomed as you suggest. That tension created a more heightened awreness it seems…and not a moment too soon.

This case highlited on e-news today should scare every Bajan about this freaking virus… in sum, ONE man in the span of a week and a half did the human equivalent of the economic multipler effect and a spread debilitating “divestment” across a local economy to over 100 people…in JUST ONE 10 DAY PERIOD…just so!…now the town is on lock down, military forces deployed to help clean and provide service and life is in a tailspin.

***[https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/11/us/new-rochelle-attorney-containment-area/index.html… In one small suburb on the outskirts of New York City, coronavirus cases jumped from one to more than 100 in less than 10 days…The issue, the governor says, is “a matter of life and death.” And it started with one resident.

The 50-year-old attorney, who works near Grand Central Station in Manhattan, tested positive for the virus on March 2 […] Just two days after the man’s positive results, on March 4, his 20-year-old son, a student at New York’s Yeshiva University, also tested positive. […] The wife and 14-year-old daughter of the attorney both also tested positive on the same day.

So did the neighbor who drove him to the hospital … And a friend of the attorney…. The friend’s wife, two sons and daughter tested positive that day too…. The day after, on March 5, the governor says eight other people connected to the attorney tested positive for the virus.

The same day, the governor announced sweeping self-quarantine directions, urging more than 1,000 New Yorkers to stay home.

On March 6, three members of the Young Israel Congregation of New Rochelle, where the attorney attended, tested positive for the virus…. Another two friends of the attorney tested positive, too. And four more people related to the attorney also had the virus, the governor said…. And so did two residents from nearby Rockland County who worked as caterers in the bar mitzvah the attorney was believed to have attended.

On March 7, the governor announced 23 others linked to the attorney had the virus…. The day after, he said 12 more cases were reported in Westchester County, which is home to New Rochelle. By March 10, there were 108 cases in New Rochelle.]***

That is UNREAL… it reads like a sci-fi movie script for a novel dystopian B-movie ‘The Living Virus’

Add … ‘in Barbados’ and that B-movie growth pattern could see us in a very problematic, deadly situation. I hope Ms Mottley doesn’t have to do like that governor.

And BTW when you talk sbout confusion in US u are spot on.

I have family in New Rochelle and too other town several miles south of that called Elmont… I was told that an Elmont high school trip this year went to…… ITALY! They returned well before all the hullabooloo erupted BUT one or more of the travellers have apparently been unwell since.

Not a word about whether it’s a positive or negative test by the NY authorities!

Not a word about caution or safeguards …. so when they say that they DONT know where this lawyer above got his infection let’s stop and think deep and hard: Do these ‘authorities’ ever tell us ALL we need to know.

This damn thing is scary freightening!

    Peace out… I gone.

“Conservative Iranian MP Fatemeh Rahbar, 55, died Saturday of the COVID-19 new coronavirus, according to the IRNA and Tasnim News Agencies.

One of several newly-elected female politicians, Rahbar represented Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat and Eslamshahr. She had also previously served in parliament for three consecutive terms from 2004 to 2016, as a member of the conservative Islamic Coalition Party..”

Your friend refused to do a test? What example is he setting?

  44. RE Your friend refused to do a test? What example is he setting?

    A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE ACTUALLY

HE IS WITHIN ESTABLISHED PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS

it is stupid to get a test if you have no symptoms

it is also a waste of resources and the time of lab staff who are already over worked and burdened

doctors USUALLY order tests when they have examined patients AND wish to confirm a diagnosis, or to monitor a patients disease status

@David, there is only one test this “friend of mine” ever takes seriously: his loyalty test!

So what if a few people to whom he has been exposed were themselves possibly exposed to probable virus infected carriers …no big deal… this germ fighting, healthy eating, cardio maintenance dynamo is indefatigable and unstoppable ๐Ÿคฃ!

But seriously tho, the expert medical/biology practioners above explain it well… to what avail for him to be tested if he exhibits great health! In the face of limited tests kits (so they say) it would just be a publicity thing as most citizens would be unable to get similar dispositive tests done.

But overall his high spirited, very optimistic narrative does border on the edge of irresponsibility…this illness can be lighting fast in scorching a town, city or entire nation!

    Gone, gone.
