Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to soak up the resources for both under developed and developed countries. At the time of posting this blog the global medical community has been unable to inform about a vaccine. The blogmaster read the perspective of a leading Australian virologist recently where she opined that the world will have to live with the virus, in fact it will become as accepted as the Flu.

The disruption caused by COVID-19 will impact service based economies like Barbados and others in the reason where it hurts, in the breadbasket. One could rehash old arguments about the folly of putting all our eggs in one basket. If we are to work hard to move from the unsustainable position we find ourselves, we have to do more to shift our over reliance on tourism. Government’s current investment pipeline has signaled there are no immediate or medium term plans to modify the economic engines firing the economy.

If there ever was an opportunity to message our leaders there is an urgent need to reorder how we do business, it is now.

COVID-19
Since this news alert Italy is virtually on lock down. Thanks John A for always feeding the blogmaster with important information.

The local authorities based on public announcements and news coverage have been rolling out awareness campaigns, bumping up screening at ports of entry, building health infrastructure and leading discussions at the regional level to ensure a regional COVID-19 approach. Given the pandemic nature of COVID-19, it seems a matter of time before Barbados reports its first case. The biggest challenge for Barbados and service based economies is the fatalistic impact disruptions to global supply chains will bring.

Theee was a forum yesterday with private and public sector participation to discuss the best approach. Unlike the USA our government is in a weak financial position so too private. However the challenges will have to be shared?

  2. GP for a little while there I thought that you had gone to the other side. As you know this corona don’t like we useless old people.

But happy to see that you are still with us.

    Long overdue
The signals and messages coming from international countries and markets suggested fast response
Hence the laid back attitude demonstrated by govt was irresponsible
A govt meeting held now while the virus has intensified does not give the economic players here enough time to formalise and prepared adequately for good and services that are necessary
Also plans which would include employees
Time management is critical to good governance especially in times of heightened and volatile health crisis

The stock market is reacting to the great disruptor COVID-19.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It is OIL that is driving the stock market.

The Saudis have increased production and cut the price to get at Russia and Iran.

Russia has responded to get at the US shale oil production.

    Expect a rebound.

Gas prices will fall (expected) and it will be cheaper to fly!!!

Once we get over Coronavirus there should be an economic boom!!

  5. @ David
    @ Mariposa

Yes there will be fallout to Every One and to tourism based destinations especially.

Trump is not my favourite person but he has seen the virus as being a 2 pronged virus. He sees both the medical and financial effect as coming together. What I want to hear from our government is how do they plan to deal say with a 20% fall in tourist based revenue over summer. What would be our plan say for a 20% fall in projected revenue over Cropover for example?

We need to start talking about the financial plan as well as the health plan now.

  6. @John

Crude will feel the blow early and in the futures market as well. Reduce air and cruise ship travel along with people staying away from gatherings, will all soften the demand for crude. No doubt the oil producers will cut back on production over the next few weeks. Added to this the winter season is coming to an end and the demand for heating will also be softening. This is a first for all global markets so there is no hand book on how to play the game. Everyday the rules are changing. Countries have to realise as Trump did, that this virus has 2 heads, one health based and the other economic. To succeed they must both be addressed at the same time.

  7. Oil supply has not reduced to meet the reduced demand caused by less travel due to the coronavirus. Root cause is the coronavirus’ effect on the global economy. (Air travel is China has sharply decreased).
The Saudis and Russians have used the coronavirus and the reduced demand to put pressure on US Shale. US Shale producers are up to their eyes in debt (there’s that QE 4 again that was supposed to be good for the economy), they need oil prices north of $60 to survive. Oil prices low will send them into bankruptcy. With them out of the market Russia and Saudi Arabia will then make a deal

  8. @John A

    Agreeing with Refguard.

Have a read of this link.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/business/stock-market-covid-19.html

  9. The Saudis and US are allies!!

The Crown Prince wants to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy and was recently in the US seeking investments from Silicon Valley and Hollywood!!

    Trump is somewhere in this!!

Venezuela and Guyana are in trouble with falling oil prices.

America has the technology most oil producers need, even down to the outing of fires!!

  10. Really dont expect much of a drop in oil prices
This virus connection to oil can be rooted or correlated to having a fuel shortage meaning that if transportation of oil across countries becomes slow or stagnant
The means to create a fiscal environment making sure that there is not a fuel shortages in countries would definitely means an increase in prices

Just went out in the yard and got a couple of yard fowl eggs [the fowls int mine, but the eggs are, lol!] made a nice little fry-up with the eggs, and from the yard, some tomatoes, garlic and spinach.

    Belly full. I happy.

  12. CORONAVIRUS PREDICTIVE PROGRAMMING IS A DOCU-COMMENTARY.

THIS PUBLIC EDUCATION PRODUCTION IS PRESENTED COURTESY OF AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER DR. LEONARD G. HOROWITZ IN ASSOCIATION WITH MEDICAL VERITAS INTERNATIONAL INC.

DR. LEONARDO G. HOROWITZ HAS BEEN THE WORLDโ€™S MOST PROLIFIC, VOCAL, AND CRITIC OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, GENETIC ENGINEERING, AND BIO-WEAPONS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. He has argued in numerous books, films, science papers, and legislative hearings since 1996 that HIV/AIDS, for instance, broke out from science labs administered by a group of cancer and vaccine industrialists.

The Video is well researched and put together weighing in on the Issue this is not a traditional Approach but it may Enlighten us as to the Corrupt Nature that Conspiring men in high places will go to for Power and Gain at the Expanse and Complete Disregard of Human life in the Guise of Doing Good.

THIS VIDEO FEATURES A GROUP OF PREPAREDNESS EXPERTS WHO MET IN OCTOBER, 2019, TO PREDICT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN FOLLOWING A CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK THAT SUSPICIOUSLY OCCURRED TWO MONTHS LATER.

All corporate-controlled media are guilty of reckless negligence and complicity in genocide for neglecting the doctorโ€™s ACCURATE AND RELENTLESS WARNINGS. The risk to public health and safety of this kind of a mutant lab virus out-breaking into a deadly pandemic was immanent, according to Dr. Horowitz.

Now, the โ€œreckless negligenceโ€ has resulted in a massive number of deaths, just as Horowitz forewarned. His science is corroborated by NEW GENETIC ANALYSES PUBLISHED by a team of gene-sequencing experts affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the University of New Delhi, IBM, and New York University at Stonybrook. The teamโ€™s nine experts, led by Prashant Pradham, the Chief Technical Officer for IBM in Asia, used the WATSON computer to identify a โ€˜smoking-gunโ€™ in the new most deadly coronavirus.

CORONAVIRUS PREDICTIVE PROGRAMMING BY DR LEONARD HOROWITZ

Leading lab virus expert Horowitz slams international โ€œCRISIS CAPITALISTSโ€ in this video production, claiming coronavirus โ€œpredictive programmersโ€ are accountable for neglecting, downplaying, and misdirecting the media and governmentsโ€™ responses to the coronavirus pandemic expanding and risking millions of lives.

Shocking revelations in this video includes the solid science proving the 2019 coronavirus outbreaking in China includes the AIDS-virus envelop gene weaponizing the mutant bioweapon against the human immune system.

In addition, detailed analysis of the โ€œEvent 201โ€ coronavirus preparedness conference sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, and the World Economic Forum, provides โ€˜probable causeโ€™ for officials to investigate โ€˜industrial espionageโ€™ and โ€˜commercial bioterrorismโ€™ as motive for the intentional release of the mutant virus. Dr. Horowitz evidences here, better than anyone, the purposeful release of the โ€˜corona/SARS/HIV lab virusโ€™ by โ€˜Deep Stateโ€˜ special interests leveraging both governmentsโ€“U.S. and China.

Is this the long anticipated โ€œBig Oneโ€ Bill Gates has promoted in the media? Otherwise, why are corporate-controlled news services and the networks censoring all of these most important details?

THE UNPRECEDENTED MEDIA CENSORSHIP, OMISSIONS, AND MISREPRESENTATIONS ACCOMPANYING THIS PANDEMIC FRAUD AND CORONAVIRUS IMPOSITION EVIDENCES GLOBAL DEPOPULATION FOUL PLAY.

  13. @fortyacresandamule March 9, 2020 9:59 PM “…rice shortage in Haiti ) was a wake-up call to the global food production and supply vulnerabilities.”

Why are we eating rice at all when cassava a crop indigenous to the Caribbean and which is both drought tolerant and disease resistant, and sweet potatoes which is indigenous to the tropical regions of the Americas and both of which are so easy to grow especially when sweet potatoes can be ready in three months and cassava in five months? And both excellent sources of complex carbohydrates are so easy to cook and to serve. And so tasty too.

    Why?

  14. You want tasty, cassava fries are the bomb, they taste good with anything.

  15. @GP March 9, 2020 9:54 PM “OK OK YOU CAN MOCK AND SCOFF NOW!”

Not a mocker, not a scoffer, so i will not engage anybody that way.

But corona is not the first, nor the last nor the worse infectious disease that has befallen human populations, and the deaths of countless millions did not previously precipitate the rapture nor the second coming.

“The viruses that cause smallpox, influenza, hepatitis, measles, encephalitis, and viral pneumonia; the bacteria that cause tuberculosis, diphtheria, cholera, typhus, scarlet fever and bacterial meningitis were all unknown in the Americas before 1492.

Then the Italian Christopher Columbus and other Europeans came to this region, to this Caribbean, to this Barbados, and the epidemics which followed consumed the indigenous populations with stunning rapacity. The first recorded epidemic, perhaps due to swine flu was in 1493. Smallpox came in 1518. And throughout the centuries which followed novel microorganisms spread from victim to victim, killing THREE QUARTERS OR MORE of the tens of millions of the indigenous populations.

In the annals of human history there has been and still is no comparable demographic catastrophe.

Those indigenous people were also God’s people, created by his own hands, in his image and likeness…they died like flies but did not rapture them.

  16. Yes John, Trump is somewhere in this. But right now he should be in quarantine along with Matt Gaetz the mask-wearing Buffoon, Mark Meadows, Ted Cruz and the other congressmen (minus one who is too stupid to even quarantine himself) and the other right wing loonies who went to the conspiracy theory convention and shook hands with the “Democratic Hoax” disease carrier.

Such ignorance is appalling and dangerous! This show is a tragicomedy! And you still continue to believe that this maniac is a VERY STABLE GENIUS!

What the hell does this mean????

I could imagine the questions that would come if de blogmaster did write dat waffle.

What is this in plain English? Don’t they teach grammar in Barbadian schools? Is this semi-literacy or illiteracy?

  19. @Sillly Woman,
I did not know that cassava can be harvested in five months. I would like a few sticks to plant this spring. Do you know anyone coming up who could bring them? just wash off all dirt and wrap in plastic film. That is how I brought up those sweet yellow fleshed potatoes from home. They grow well here. My slips are coming along nicely. I have transplanted 6 already and I have another 8 or so to root as they are about 5 inches long. I should have about 30 plants come May. My Sri Lankan neighbour at the allotment grew eddoes last year. I am not sure how much she got, but they were lovely. I plan to grow some pigeon peas again this year. I grow the short plants. I will start them in the house so I can harvest in the fall.

  21. @Donna March 10, 2020 11:43 AM “It wonโ€™t be long before my garden grows. lol”

Depending on your space, the amount of rainfall in your area or your access to irrigation you may want to start with cassava, sweet potatoes, spinach, basil, garlic, all fairly drought tolerant. Plant yams during the first week of May whether or not it is raining. The may not sprout for a month, but we will get rain before the first week of June. You can plant cassava now. If you can get some fertile “small tomato” seeds [not the imported infertile ones] what are called cherry tomatoes in other places, plant those too, invariably a few ripe tomatoes will drop and you can will have an ongoing tomato patch producing enough to serve a small household, and they don’t require much care.

    Best wishes.

  22. Back in the day i heard my elders talking about what they called “big grain rice” that is sweet potatoes. Large quantities were planted during world war two to feed the Bajan population when the food boats did not come because of the war U-boats. In three months you can harvest the red skinned, white fleshed sweet potatoes as big as your head. Not as nutricious as the yellow or orange foods, but when you are hungry, food is food.

  23. @Robert March 10, 2020 12:04 PM

It appears that English may not be Mariposa’a first language, so please do not be too hard on her.

  24. These diseases also first came to the Americas after 1492, and devastated God’s people, the indigenous people of our current homelands: bubonic plague, mumps, chickenpox, typhus, malaria, leprosy, and yellow fever.

  25. Oh well, they are already two weeks behind Italy so hell will break loose soon.

Top Brit surgeon tests positive for coronavirus and may have infected hundreds of patients after return from Italy
    thesun.co.uk/news/1…

  26. Tobacco is also indigenous to the Americas, including to Barbados and the rest of the Caribbean. But the Europeans came and saw the “natives” smoking their weed tobacco as a sacrament, and thought this weed is magical, let us take some home, let us enslave people to grow it in huge quantities. let us export it to the whole world. Let us make plenty, plenty money. And indeed plenty, plenty money is still being made. The world has not yet rejected the killer tobacco. Lungs damaged by a lifetime of smoking tobacco are likely more vulnerable to the corona virus.

Now in the 21st century 5 million people per year are still dying from tobacco smoking.

So maybe the indigenous people of the Americas are still getting their “revenge”

There is NEVER any need to take up arms against anybody. Human beings are quite capable of harming themselves.

must be very nice being rich unhealthy looking and bloated, but slave food makes you healthy enuff to withstand Corona and all the other Corona attracting illnesses like high blood pressure and diabetes…killers of the rich…lol.

  30. RE GP for a little while there I thought that you had gone to the other side. As you know this corona donโ€™t like we useless old people.

I HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP QUIET BECAUSE WHEN I SPEAK IN PERFECT ENGLISH I FIND THAT FOLK TAKE THINGS OUT OF CONTEXT, AND DISPLAY BOTH THEIR IGNORANCE AND UNBELIEF

DO YOU THINK THAT AS A STUDENT AND TEACHER OF MICROBIOLOGY THAT I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE DISEASES CAUSED BY BOTH BACTERIA AND VIRUSES THAT THE WORLD HAS WITNESSED

NONE OF THE DISEASES YOU MENTIONED WERE PANDEMICS

YOU WILL NOTE THAT I REFUSE TO RANT OR RAVE ABOUT CORONOVIRUS

HOWEVER, THE DAY WILL COME, AS PREDICTED IN REVELATION 6 THAT A GOOD PORTION OF MANKIND WILL BE ERADICATED BY A PLAGUE—SOME PANDEMIC THAT WILL HAVE A ZOO-ONIC ORIGIN.

I PARTICULARLY SAID THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN SOME TIME AFTER THE RAPTURE AFTER ALL CHAPTER 6 FOLLOWS CHAPTER 4 IN WHICH THE RAPTURE IS MENTIONED

THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH HAS NOT YET OCCURED, SO THE WORLD CAN REST EASY ABOUT THE CORONOVIRUS. THERE IS TOO MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING HERE

PANDEMICS LIKE CORONOVIRUS TELLS ME THAT THE PANDEMIC PREDICTED IN REVELATION 6 IS VERY POSSIBLE

REVELATION ALSO PREDICTS AT BEFORE THE ESCHATON THERE WILL BE ABUSE OF DRUGS (PHARMAEA)

MOCK AND SCOFF BOUT THAT TOO

SAY THAT WE ALWAYS HAD EPIDEMICS OF DRUGS TOO

    RE
But corona is not the first, nor the last nor the worse infectious disease that has befallen human populations, and the deaths of countless millions did not previously precipitate the rapture nor the second coming.

NOTE THAT I DID NOT SAY THAT ANY INFECTIOUS DISEASE WOULD PREDATE OR PRECIPITATE THE RAPTURE OR THE SECOND COMING

I DID SAY, AND VERY ACCURATELY TOO, THAT SOME TIME AFTER THE RAPTURE (REV 4-5) THAT THERE WILL BE A PANDEMIC (REV 6)

CORONOVIRUS IS NOT OF CONSEQUENCE TO AN ESCHATOLOGIST EXCEPT TO SHOW THAT PANDEMICS CAN OCCUR

YOU WILL NOTE AGAIN THAT I REFUSE TO RANT OR RAVE ABOUT CORONOVIRUS

MY “CHRISTIAN” LENS IS VERY CLEAR

GP…since they are still doing research and learning new things every day, obviously you will not say a thing.

The rich are real candidates, that’s for sure, the poor also have too many high incidences of elevated blood pressure.

“Patients with hypertension appear to be at a higher risk of dying from the coronavirus, said a top Chinese intensive care doctor whoโ€™s been treating critically ill patients since mid-January.

While thereโ€™s been no published research yet explaining why, Chinese doctors working in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the virus first emerged, have noticed that infected patients with that underlying illness are more likely to slip into severe distress and die.

Of a group of 170 patients who died in January in Wuhan — the first wave of casualties caused by a pathogen thatโ€™s now raced around the world — nearly half had hypertension.

โ€œThatโ€™s a very high ratio,โ€ said Du Bin, director of the intensive care unit at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, in an interview with Bloomberg over the phone from Wuhan. He was among a team of top doctors sent to the devastated city two months ago to help treat patients there.”

  33. @GP March 10, 2020 1:11 PM “NONE OF THE DISEASES YOU MENTIONED WERE PANDEMICS”

    Maybe not pandemics.

But since the mentioned diseases killed 75% of the populations of the Americas in short order, perhaps hemisphere-demics then?

  34. @fortyacresandamule March 10, 2020 12:55 PM “@silly. What! Cassava and sweet potatoes! you mad those are poor people or slave food. You fegit we is a high-income country. Premium meat cuts, cereal grains, dairy products, champagne etc is the thing. No more slave foodโ€ฆ we rich.”

Maybe these are not slave foods, maybe these are just sensible foods. Maybe “premium” meat cuts, cereal grains, dairy products, champagne etc. are not what human beings need for optimum nutrition.

I read somewhere that 1st generation migrants tend to underlive their stay in the old country parents. In my own family 2 of my migrating siblings have already underlived their parents, in one case underlived our father by 29 years, and our mother by 20 years. That is unlikely genetic. Most likely due to an over enthusiastic adaption to the foods and the lifestyle of the new country.

  36. Silly woman
Not everyone speaks or write English well
If English grammar was the end all and be all of mankind existence
The rest of civilisation would deemed irrelevant
But alas we lived in a global community where all languages make up the whole
Also most noteworthy that with barbados having so much intellectual power and boast as having a reservoir of knowledge
The country falls low on the list of self sufficiently unable to help itself in times of crisis
Meaning if the global community depended solely on grammar barbados would be head and shoulders above all
    Thankfully wunna not

“KINGSTON, Jamaica โ€” Jamaica today confirmed its first imported case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) here in Kingston.

Below is the statement from Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton regarding the patient.

The patient is a Jamaican female who had travelled from the United Kingdom, which has cases of COVID-19. She arrived in the island on March 4, presented to the public health system on March 9, and has been in isolation since then.

Based on the patientโ€™s travel history and symptoms, health professionals suspected COVID-19. A clinical sample was collected and sent to the National Influenza Centre, where laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis today at approximately 11:00 am. The patient and family members have been informed.

The patientโ€™s infection was travel-related. However, steps are being taken to prevent the risk of community spread.”

In the interest of being accurate the Acting Director of Best-dos Santos stated that Barbados is capable of doing about 80 tests and that PAHO will provide additional reagents permitting a further 300 to 400 tests. You are breaking the law. I do not know if you reside in the US or UK, but what you have done is bad. If you want to import exotic plants that are not native to your country, you need to get a phytosanitary certificate ascertaining that the plant material has been inspected and where necessary ,has been treated to eliminate pest and diseases that are harmful, from the plant quarantine section of the country where you are smuggling the plant material from.. If you are caught smuggling plant material you will face a fine and jail. Suppose your material was contaminated with pest and disease which on arrival to your home results in commercial crops being infected and as a result have to be destroyed. Think in terms of cost to the economy of the country in just having to control and eliminate the introduced pest and diseases I suggest that you cease and desist from repeating this pernicious habit.
