Phartford Files: Hard Truths – Part 1

Submitted by Ironside

For some, the predicament in which Barbados finds itself at this point in its history is purely economic. On the other hand, the extreme right might argue that we are being punished for our many sins.

I take a more middle of the road approach and suggest that we are being offered an opportunity to put our increasingly miserable lives in order. We are under mercy, but we can’t recognize it. But putting our lives in order is not primarily an economic exercise, or for that matter, a political exercise.

My thesis is that the first thing we have to do is to extricate ourselves from the spiritual cesspool that we have allowed ourselves to fall into. Getting ourselves out is the #1 priority. Political stability and economic prosperity will follow. By what authority so I say this?

++Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people. [NLT Proverbs 14:34]++

Alternatively:

++Doing right brings honor to a nation, but sin brings disgrace. [CEV Proverbs 14:34]++

If you think I am wanting to join the ranks of the Grenville of SB and his Tuesday, now Monday sermons or Dr. GP, forget it. I am about practicality; there is nothing more practical than the Word of God! In it is all that we need to run our individual lives AND our nation.

Hello! The only person who can tell you the best way to drive and maintain a vehicle is the manufacturer. That is why Simpson motors has to send their service people many miles away to get first hand training in the factories and labs of the manufacturers- plain necessity and common sense. But I suppose that this truth is TOO simple for an educated and proud people to understand!

So in this short series, I am going to try to download the Divine Manual and upload it to our failing national economic and political sub-systems so that we can get rid of the viruses that have invaded them. In short, I am calling for a national reboot! Join me…if you have the guts!

Every year from June to November we get anxious about storms and hurricanes and keep a staunch watch. As soon we hear of an approaching system the front line against hurricanes (a.k.a the radio stations) – or so they believe – come out with voluminous commentary and APRs (all points reports) until the system passes out of our piece of the ocean only to devastate some Caribbean neighbour or parts of America. God, the Bajan did it again. And he did it because VOB put on some religious music to assuage His Majesty’s anger.

Ok! If God is a Bajan, then I am Queen Candace of Ethiopia, live and in full royal regalia!

It never ceases to amaze me how spiritually stupid we have become! If God is who he is, do you really expect to bribe Him with religious songs? Bribe Him at all? What absolute superstitious bull! And coming from people who claim to be the most “highly educated” in the Caribbean, if not in the world? Get real!

You can try to explain away our escapes by other means, e.g. our location. But in my humble opinion, we are saved every year because truly God-fearing people in this country get down on their knees and ask for mercy! You and I know, that despite all the prideful talk and clamouring we do, that we can’t take a major hit from a hurricane any time soon; especially in these perilous economic times! Let’s stop deceiving OURSELVES!

Let me get to the point: we need to repent! A.K.A reboot!

No, I did not say go to church! Or give the church some money! I said “repent!” The dictionary renders repent variously as “be sorry, apologize, ask for forgiveness, feel sorrow, be penitent, atone”. That is not true biblical repentance! You can’t seriously expect a lexicon to know what true biblical repentance is, can you?

In the New Testament, the verb metanoeo [translierated Greek word) and the noun metanoia [ditto] are translated as “repent”, “repentance”. The root meaning of these words is “to turn”. In the contexts in which they are used, “repent” means to turn AWAY from (evil) and to turn TO (or return to) God and good. If you haven’t got it yet, it means make a U-turn to God! That is true biblical repentance! Being sorry or asking for forgiveness is a quarter-turn; it is not enough; going to church, even though desirable, is not nearly enough, in point of fact, as a starter, it is irrelevant!

As I see it, in the BLP’s 30 – 0 victory, God has given us an opportunity to repent. From a lot of things! Like idolatry! You thought I was going to say “homosexuality” right? I know! In part 2, I am going to identify those NATIONAL viruses we need to eliminate.

You see, the hard truth is that we asked Him and he has spared us repeatedly from those awesome hurricanes. I am not a prophet nor indeed want to be, but, if I am “reading” His Majesty, King of Kings and Lord of Lords correctly, he has thrown us a “curve ball” known as ‘Mystery’ Babylon and the BLP. Why? To test us; to test whether we will recognize our sinfulness AS A NATION and REPENT.

Consider this. In one master stroke, the Most High has (a) relieved us of the wickedness of DLP and the hypocrite Freundel Stuart (b) given us Mystery Babylon with all her abominations and (c) betrothed us to the IMF. And why has He done these things? Is it to destroy us? I say, no! I say, it is because he loves us! Wait, you mean God got a “love-hate” thing going on with Barbados! You could that! Really?

Please see Part 2.

RE For some, the predicament in which Barbados finds itself at this point in its history is purely economic.
    THIS IS PRACTICALLY PARTIALLY TRUE.

RE On the other hand, the extreme right might argue that we are being punished for our many sins.
THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE , AND THE ECONOMICS IS ONE OF THE ENGINES WHEREBY THIS IS BEING INSTITUTED.
THIS IS NOTHING NEW AND IS VERY WELL ILLUSTRATED IN THE BIBLICAL BOOK OF JUDGES.

RE I take a more middle of the road approach and suggest that we are being offered an opportunity to put our increasingly miserable lives in order. We are under mercy, but we can’t recognize it.
THIS IS ACTUALLY TRUE ALSO AND IS WELL STATED IN 2 PETER 3:9 INTER ALIA
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

RE But putting our lives in order is not primarily an economic exercise, or for that matter, a political exercise.
    IT IS A SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

RE My thesis is that the first thing we have to do is to extricate ourselves from the spiritual cesspool that we have allowed ourselves to fall into. Getting ourselves out is the #1 priority. Political stability and economic prosperity will follow.

RE or Dr. GP, forget it. I am about practicality; there is nothing more practical than the Word of God! In it is all that we need to run our individual lives AND our nation.

SIR I RUN MY INDIVIDUAL LIFE BY THE WORD OF GOD AND I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT IT AND SHARE IT. THIS IS NATURAL FOR ME AND MOST PLEASURABLE

BUT I HAVE NEVER SOUGHT TO FOIST IT OR MY MANNER OF LIFE ON ANY ONE ON BU AS YOU HAVE BOLDLY SOUGHT TO DO. I HAVE NEVER ASKED ANYONE TO MAKE A CHOICE FOR OR AGAINST ON BU, BECAUSE IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT OUR PEOPLE NO LONGER EVEN HAVE A FORM OF GODLINESS, AND DEFINITELY DENY THE POWER THEREOF.

  • “But in my humble opinion, we are saved every year because truly God-fearing people in this country get down on their knees and ask for mercy!”

    Barbadians are something else though!!!

Here we are assuming that there are no truly God-fearing people in the whole of the Bahamas who got down on their knees and asked for mercy.

    Wuhlaus!

First we had “God is a Bajan”. Now we have “Only Barbados is in possession of truly God-fearing people”.

Ain’t got none in The Bahamas. Ain’t got none in Dominica. Ain’t got none in the US Virgin islands. Ain’t got none in Puerto Rico. Didn’t used to have any in Jamaica. Not One!

    Wuhlaus!

Do these so-called Christians ever pause to think about the nonsense that spews from their mouths????!!!!!

    What utter arrogance!

    Again I say…….

The Shape God Wears (by Sara Henderson Hay)

So questioning, I was bold to dare
The sinewy tiger in his lair.
‘Come forth. striped sir, make known to me
What God it was who fashioned thee.’

Out leapt he like a muscled blaze,
Patterned in black and gold he was.
‘Jehovah is his name,’ he cried,
    ‘Tiger of Tigers, beryl-eyed,

‘Flat flanked and sleek, His paws are curled
About the margins of the world.
He stalketh in His jungles grim –
I, even I, am like to Him!’

I sought that moving mountain side,
The elephant, with ears fanned wide,
    Treading forests. ‘Sir tell me
What manner of a God made thee?’

He swirled his trunk about the oak
And wrenched it up before he spoke,
Then answered in a trumpet blast,
    ‘Old Super-Pachyderm, that vast

Lord of the Elephants, the great
    Trampler upon the worm’s estate.
    Crag-shouldered, terrible is He
Who of His substance fashioned me!’

I scaled the precipice, to seek
The eagle on his drafty peak.
‘Tell me, O Gazer at the sun,
The nature of that Mighty one,

Your Lord.’ He turned his crested head
And screamed athwart the wind and said
‘Ancient of Eagles, wild and free,
Rider of tempests, He made me!

His wing is stretched above the thunder
His claws can rip the hills asunder.
His beak of two hooked knives is made –
Look on his likeness. Be afraid!’

Then turned I to the whorled snail
Whose house is exquisite and frail,
Most deftly wrought. ‘Sir, I would know
What God it was Who shaped thee so.’

Then cried he proudly to my face
‘Eternal Snail, God of my race.
The lightning is His silvery track,
He wears the world upon His back.

‘He is most beautiful and wise,
He dwelleth in the moisty skies,
In the gray wall at heaven’s rim,
And He has made me after Him!’

Then laughed I in superior mirth,
‘Attend, ye creatures of the earth,
    Misled, mistaken, all undone
    And self deceivers, every one.

‘Hear ye, deluded beasts, while I
Explain the shape God wears, and why.
    Self evident the truth’s displayed:
He is my Father, sirs,’ I said,
‘And in my image He is made!’

    Love God. Love yuh neighbor

THIS IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH THAT SOUNDS GOOD, BUT IT DOES NOT SAY HOW
I CAN TELL A STUDENT TO USE A CLASSEN CONDENSATION OR FRIES REARRANGEMENT TO SYNTHESIZE A DRUG OR USEFUL PRODUCT

BUT THEN I HAVE TO TEACH HIM HOW TO DO IT AND GIVE HIM EXAMPLES

THE LORD JESUS SAID Love God. Love yuh neighbor BUT HE SPENT THREE YEARS TEACHING THE DISCIPLES SO THAT THEY COULD TEACH OTHERS HOW TO DO HIS WILL
IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT WE READ IN ACTS 2:42 ABOUT THE EARLY CHURCH THAT

they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

A LOT OF IDIOTS COME HERE CHANTING Love God.& Love yuh neighbor BUT THEY DONT KNOW HOW

THE WORD OF GOD SEEKS TO INSTRUCT US HOW TO DO SO

IT IS WRITTEN IN 2 Tim.3 Verses 16 to 17 THAT

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

ACTUALLY I KNOW MANY FAITHFUL BELIEVERS IN THESE PLACES. BUT THERE IS A TIME WHEN GOD WILL JUDGE DESPITE CRIES FOR MERCY. IS IT NOT HIS PREROGATIVE TO JUDGE OR TO HAVE MERCY?

IS IT NOT WRITTEN IN Isaiah 55:8, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

IF YOU READ THE BOOK OF JUDGES WERE THEY NOT SOME ISRAELITES THAT WERE GOD FEARING AND WHO PRAYED DURING ANY OF THE CYCLES OF JUDGEMENT? I AM SURE THEY WERE!

IF YOU READ KINGS AND CHRONICLES WERE THEY NOT SOME ISRAELITES THAT WERE GOD FEARING AND WHO PRAYED DURING THE SIEGE BY THE ASSYRIANS OR THE BABYLONIANS? I AM SURE THEY WERE!
BUT AT THESE TIMES THERE WAS WHAT IS CALLED “ THE DAY OF THE LORD”
MAYBE THERE WILL COME “A DAY OF THE LORD” FOR BARBADOS TOO

On the other hand, if you read 2 Chronicles 20 you will read of the time when Jehosophat prayed, and God delivered him from the children of Ammon and Moab.

You can also read how God delivered Hezekiah from Senacherib. Or how he delivered Josiah. Or how he delivered Peter in Acts when the disciples prayed.

OR HOW HE DELIVERED DANIEL FROM THE LIONS DEN AND THE THREE HEBREW BOYS FROM THE FIERY FURNACE. AND WE CAN GO ON!

  • By the way the day of the Lord may be defined as “any time when God judges men and their evil ways.

Of course, in the future, it will be the time of great trouble after the rapture of the church, which will be followed by one thousand 1000 years when Christ will rule on earth. It is the day when the Lord will judge and interfere once more directly in the course of this world’s politics.

  • As far as the economic problems are concerned and everything else that ails our society I join that smart person who said that here on earth we are punished BY our sins not FOR them. That is unless our sins are also crimes.

Every damned stupid thing I ever did that went against God’s advice came back and bit me in the butt. Eventually. It happens organically. God does not have to “lift a finger.”

Stupid actions have a way of delivering natural consequences.

We are nasty with our garbage. Disease carrying rats move in breed and relieve themselves all over our property. We are exposed to that infected “relief”. Bam! Leptospirosis!

We leave uncovered water on our premises. Disease carrying mosquitoes move in and suck our blood in order to breed. Bam! Dengue fever! Chikungunya! Zika!

You are promiscuously having sex with multiple partners sooner or later some disease catches up with you.

You drop offspring all over the place and you are not there for any of them and, if you live long enough, you will regret not having anyone around to care for you.

Or you spoil your favorite child and unfair the other and the favourite child grows up to be so selfish they can’t even care for you. The non-favoured child takes pity on you and you have to feel the guilt whilst lying on your death bed.

You don’t honour your father and your mother and provided that they are good parents who taught you right from wrong you will eventually end up doing stupidness that will cause you to have to run back and beg Mummy and Daddy for help. Humiliating!

You covet your neighbour’s spouse and make a mess of your own marriage AND no longer have a neighbour you can count on.

You don’t take even one day to relax and take stock of your spiritual state and you make plenty of money but still are miserable because it is NEVER ENOUGH to satisfy your greedy soul. Or you have health issues and the money is of no use to you.

I could go on and on because as Buju Banton so sweetly chants –

“The full has never been told.”

Sin and stupid actions both have a way of bringing chickens home to roost.

I was wondering who would be the first to go here! Yours is the honour, M’am.

FYI. My father was a Rosicrucian. (MHRIP). In his last days he changed his allegiance to Christ through a book I gave him. No interpersonal pressure from me or other family members. It was written by a man who was previously steeped in eastern religion, mysticism, New Age philosophy, you name it, which he promoted on every university campus he could find.

I read a lot of my father’s Rosicrucian literature when I was young so I can smell Luciferian / New Age/ Not-so-New Age doctrine a mile off. For example, people get taken in by Oprah but if you listen to her very carefully you will find the strands of the New Age philosophy and logic right in the middle of her mouthings. I think she does some very good HUMANITARIAN stuff but I await your reaction to this!

Lucifer’s strategy is VERY logical but often convoluted and deeply deceptive. One of his extended syllogisms, that is adapted in different ages and different times, goes as follows:

Major Premise: God knows both good and evil
Minor premise 1: You should be equal to God [or you ARE equal to God]
Conclusion 1: Therefore, you need to [reject innocence and] do evil! [to be like God!]
Implication 1: God is a liar! [usually unstated]
Implication 2: Repentance is irrelevant! [usually unstated]

Works like magic all the time on unsuspecting human vanity!

Perhaps those reading will understand why Lucifer is associated with lawlessness in Scripture [2 Thess 2:9 ] and why there is increasing lawlessness here and every where in the world.

Please Samantha, don’t wait until part 2, strut you stuff here right now! I am all for freedom of expression.

You have it all wrong VC. It is the beginning of repentance. Recognizing the mess you are in and the reason why you are there. Even you agree:

+++I do agree that we need to” wheel and come again” and change our mind sets.+++

That is it! “change our mind sets”. Don’t contradict yourself, now! You are a logical person, so follow this through to the logical conclusion.

You fix a problem by finding and treating the CAUSE not the SYMPTOMS. If the fundamental problem is what most people think it is [ i.e. economics] , then we have enough economic and other brain power in Bim alone that can surely fix it.

P.S. I hate religion! I mean it. Perhaps Karl Marx was was right, “Religion is the opium of the people”. Repentance is NOT about religion but about a RIGHT RELATIONSHIP with the King of Kings AS DEFINED BY HIM, not us e.g. the NEW AGERS! That’s the part we can’t swallow! We can like it or lump it but God IS SOVEREIGN !!

N.B. There was no religion in the Garden of Eden until Lucifer came along!

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

The parable of the good Samaritan: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ Which of these three do you think was the neighbor to the man who fell to the robbers? The lawyer replied “He who had mercy on him” Jesus replied “Go and do likewise”

    Go and DO likewise.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

Only one problem with the location of all that rain.

The furthest north pumping station is Alleynedale.

BWA once tried a “desal” plant at Hope in St. Lucy for brackish water but not enough fresh water and plenty sea water.

All that rain on Saturday will not help us next year!!

Now if it had fallen in St. Peter, St. James, St. Thomas. St. John, St. Joseph at locations that feed the water wells on the Western Flank and through the St. George Valley up to Bowmanston and Sweet Bottom, it would have been better.

Still, got to be thankful for any showers.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Steam factories first appeared in Barbados in the 1840’s and 50’s before there were any reservoirs and pumping stations!!

Belle only came into use in 1920!!

Each factory would have had its own well where possible but remember, most of the water used for processing the cane to sugar would have been carted to the factory inside the cane.

Newcastle would have been fed from Benn Spring before it became a public water supply source after the 1854 Cholera epidemic.

David Massiah an engineer in the sugar industry told me years ago that well run sugar factories were practically self sufficient in water.

Colin Hudson used to point out the way water was collected in a pond at Vaucluse because there was no suitable well. That factory is/was on what was called the Clermont Nose.

I was told they stopped digging for water after 300 feet!!

If you know what you are looking for you will see the ingenious ways nature was used to supply make up water to factories where water was not readily available.

“A mature stalk (of sugar cane) is typically composed of 11–16% fiber, 12–16% soluble sugars, 2–3% non-sugars, and 63–73% water”

That was the reason for the cooling tower, to reclaim water that had been converted to steam or boiled off from the juice during concentration.

Most of the 8″ will have gone to the sea, suck wells could never handle that deluge.

Suck wells and suck holes were used to drain ponds in fields and save inundated crops after deluges like that.

So look at how long a pond takes to drain if you want to assess if the suck well/hole is working.

There is sheet water under St. Lucy just as there is under parts of Christ Church but the rainfall in the catchment area supplying the sheet water is low most of the year and wont support a high daily extraction for public water supply.

So when the BWA tried to process brackish water years ago in St. Lucy my understanding was that it was unsuccessful because there was not sufficient underground fresh water flow to the well site and the saline content of the sheet water rose above the level that could be handled.

The secret is to get water underground every time the rain falls and not wait till there is a deluge and there is no way to prevent it’s escape to the sea.

Let’s say St. Lucy may experience 30-40″ in a year.

While losing 8″ is not good, it is a minority.

Better to get the majority underground naturally 24/7.

    Watch the ponds!!

PAUL’S PHILOSOPHY FOR LIVING IN PHILIPPIANS 3

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

    10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

    PETER’S VIEW

    2 PETER 3

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

I admire your passion but I don’t know that “unnecessary labelling” and name calling are going to help “Bible illiterates”. Too far east is west. Rather, I think you should follow the Scriptural advice:
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth. 2 Tim: 23 – 35 NIV
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That having been said, Yeshua delivered some serious punches of his own e.g. calling the Pharisees “ whitewashed sepulchres [graves]. Can’t want a harder insult than that!.

Or of Herod; “Go tell that fox!..” [People actually called that Herod “the Fox” so Jesus had a sense of humour! ]

    Or the more subtle:

“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone” [To those who brought the woman caught in adultery to be stoned]

Some other things are not worth answering.

    Just a suggestion.

a gong is supposed to be noisy and a cymbal. is supposed to clang..AND MAKE CLEAR SOUNDS

” If I speak” this is a second class “if ” in the Greek
it means that the moot is not so

    The verse requires
1…that one speak in tongues of mortals and of angels, AND I DONT
2 but do not have love, AND I DO ASK MY WIFE FRIENDS STUDENTS FORMER PATIENTS

SO HOW AM I a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. EXCEPT THAT I MAKE VERY CLEAR SOUNDS AS I DECLARE THE WORD OF TRUTH

How many drainage wells you see in this field reported to be at Spring Hall?

I suspect what you will find as you drive around the flat area of St. Lucy and look at the ponds that are left you will see no drainage wells or just a few.

Doesn’t mean there are no suck holes which would form naturally over time and these might be clogged.

Looking at the 1:10000 map from 1951 I can count a mere handful.

If you watch the flow of water over the essentially flat ground that was circulating on Saturday you will see it was headed somewhere and the ground is not so flat.

  • 10 COMMANDMENTS for BIBLE STUDY

I n His wisdom, our God has placed what we might consider three “sentinels” in His Word – one at the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the end (Deut. 4:2; Prov. 30:5- 6; Rev. 22:18-19). It is to warn all who read it to neither add nor take away from what He has chosen to reveal. He also inspired Paul to exhort Timothy to study the Word of God with diligent care, to pursue an orderly and consistent approach to discovering its truths (2 Tim. 2:15). Out of gratitude to those have mentored and nurtured my own interest in Bible study, I offer these ten “rules of thumb”. If observed, they will enable the eager Bible student to rightly divide the word of truth, and to avoid many popular but harmful bypaths which are so readily available today.
    1. Observe What The Text Says. Forcing a preconception on what is written usually leads to error. Reading and re-reading a portion slowly, and out loud, is the best way to take in every word. Notice every detail, verb, order, progression, pattern, etc. God does not do things haphazardly. Before we even begin thinking about what the Bible teaches, we need to first establish what the Bible says. 2. Always Establish The Context Always ask the “W5” questions: who is speaking or being spoken to; what are the circumstances; when was it said; where is the locale; and why was it being said. Context 10 COMMANDMENTS for BIBLE STUDY “Be diligent to present thyself approved to God – a workman irreproachable, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”
    2. 2 Timothy 2:15 (Young’s Literal Translation) is essential for both interpretation and application of Scripture. Failure to observe context usually results in false ideas and thinking.
    3. Do Not Add To The Scriptures. God has said everything we need to know (2 Pet. 1:3). Speculations and logical deductions are often corrupting and human reasoning is so infinitely inferior to the mind of God as to be inconsequential.
    4. Do Not Take Away From The Scriptures. Never leave things out or pass over them just because they are naturally distasteful. Beware of removing portions on a subject just because they are intellectually difficult. The Bible is no bigger than God intended, read it all.
    5. Compare Scripture With Scripture. No verse should be interpreted by itself, but always considered in the broader context of everything else the Bible has to say on a subject. Balance all your observations from the entire Bible, remembering that it is a perfectly harmonious book. Reject any idea which doesn’t harmonize with the whole tenor of Scripture.
    6. Be Silent When The Scriptures Are Silent. This essentially means do not add to what God has said, because it can never be accepted as divine. Those who claim extra-Biblical revelation must be rejected. We too need to be careful that we do not add our own speculative ideas to what God has expressly revealed.
    7. Always Use Scriptural Language And Terms. The use of man-made terms often hinders proper understanding because there is no scriptural reference to define and understand them. This practice often surfaces in the realms of systematic theology and should be zealously guarded against.
    8. Be Certain When Making Interpretation. Interpretation is the exact explanation of what the text says and should never be done carelessly. The inductive method of Bible study is to be preferred, because it yields to letting God’s Word establish our thoughts. Using deductive reasoning to form conclusions which are not stated in Scripture is dangerous. Furthermore, looking for “proof texts” to support their own views has become the specialty of so many pseudo-Christian cults.
    9. Be Careful When Making Application When applying a verse or story of Scripture to any matter, be careful not to stretch the point beyond what is revealed or intended. This applies to how the various types, illustrations, and parables are applied, and we need to be careful to not use them beyond how God intended.
    10. Consider The Nature And Character Of God Always ask the question, “What is God like?” when trying to understand difficult portions. Is your explanation “in character” with God as He reveals Himself? If not, then there must be another explanation. Someone once wrote that “God will always act like God.” So, when a particular explanation doesn’t align with the immutable nature of God described in his Word, then we must wisely reject it. These ten principles will guard the diligent Bible student from wayward doctrines and personal agenda-serving tangents. The Creator of language chose the correct words and expressions to convey His truth to us. To think we need to add or delete anything to make the Bible more relevant or emotionally tasteful, is foolish and elevates our own thinking above the mind of God. May our Lord bless every diligent student of His Word, and in turn use them to bless others.

    How many wells?

What he needs to look at is just upstream of him the Ministry of Agriculture has ploughed acres and acres for Cotton which is absolutely beautiful to behold!!

Saw it on Sunday when I went to look at the land in St. Lucy.

The problem is having removed the ground cover the rain gets to the soil instantaneously and over a great acreage of land.

It saturates it and then runs off.

No amount of wells can deal with the run off!!

If the Ministry of Agriculture intends to plant sugar after the Cotton then next year should not be so bad, year after will be much better after the harvest of the first crop there will be better ground cover.

You may not have noticed but the Ministry of Agriculture has been ploughing for months in the earlier part of the year throughout the island.

I am told they rented all available harrows.

Your farmer friend should benefit from the wash mold from upstream of him.

Next year please God he may have a bountiful harvest!!

Thirty years ago there would have been cane all over in St. Lucy, and few wells!!

  • I suspect what the farmer is saying is his land is flooded and the well or wells on it are not drawing off the water as it or they haven’t been cleaned for 30 years.

Some kitchen garden crops are toast if flooded.

String Beans and other crops are destroyed just by heavy rain, no flooding is needed.

The few fields of cane I saw looked great and will produce well next year as it is a known fact that high rainfall in the last two months of the year are great for yields.

So, at least the few farmers who have cane will be smiling.

You must let me know how you logically reasoned out the following from what I wrote:

    ++++++++++++++

Not One!

Let me be LITERAL. I should have said “NOT TEN”.

Genesis 18 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
A Son Promised to Abraham and Sarah
18 The Lord appeared to Abraham[a] by the oaks[b] of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. 3 He said, “My lord, if I find favor with you, do not pass by your servant. 4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5 Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” 6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Make ready quickly three measures[c] of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.” 7 Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.

9 They said to him, “Where is your wife Sarah?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” 10 Then one said, “I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.” 15 But Sarah denied, saying, “I did not laugh”; for she was afraid. He said, “Oh yes, you did laugh.”

    Judgment Pronounced on Sodom
16 Then the men set out from there, and they looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to set them on their way. 17 The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?[d] 19 No, for I have chosen[e] him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice; so that the Lord may bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” 20 Then the Lord said, “How great is the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah and how very grave their sin! 21 I must go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me; and if not, I will know.”

22 So the men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, while Abraham remained standing before the Lord.[f] 23 Then Abraham came near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will you then sweep away the place and not forgive it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will forgive the whole place for their sake.” 27 Abraham answered, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. 28 Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” 29 Again he spoke to him, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31 He said, “Let me take it upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, “Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak just once more. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.” 33 And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

Clue – the counties i listed were not spared.

Does that help your reasoning any?

You can’t liken your countries to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Hurricanes have been going their way routinely for centuries …. perhaps even millennia.

We just happen to be missed most years because Whoever made Barbados and Whoever the “winds and rains obey” made it so.

Just thank Whoever made it so for whatever blessing has been bestowed on us.

Every now and then we get a touch up too.

Did anyone rebuild Sodom and Gomorrah?

Sometimes we just have to be still.

Thanks for taking the time. I must say the rationale you supplied makes some sense.

However, I do to know that TEN or any other number is a magic number with God. All I know is that the Sovereign One is very dynamic and strategic about what He does. He does not always do things the same way (See story of Elijah I Kings Chs. 17 – 19) and the He responds to sincere prayer.

As in the case you cite, God knows how to protect “the righteous”(not equal to perfect people) while punishing the wicked. My wife shared some video out of Bahamas where a Christian woman was “saved by inches”; when the water reached a certain point it just stopped. If I can find it/ access it I will share it.

All I know is that my God is very gracious! May He make Himself real you!
