New York Caribbean Institute Calls for Dallas Police officer who killed St. Lucian national in his own home to be charged with murder

BROOKLYN: BROOKLYN: The New York based Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) on Friday harshly condemned the killing of 26 year-old St. Lucian national and Dallas, Texas resident, Botham Shem Jean. Jean was shot and killed around 10:00 p.m Thursday night, September 6, 2018 in his own home, by a female Dallas police officer. The officer told investigators that she returned home from her shift and entered the wrong apartment in her building.
In a statement issued Friday, CGID President, Rickford Burke, said the officer’s negligent, reckless conduct and depraved indifference to human life resulted in murder. He consequently called on Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson to prosecute the officer accordingly and to the fullest extent of the law.
Burke said “the culture of policing that has emerged in black communities all across America is one where cops shoot to kill first, then ask questions after.” He asserted that “Police officers are killing black men while walking innocently on the streets, driving innocently in our cars and now while living innocently in our own home. This is too much for a people to bear. CGID therefore calls on the US Justice Department to review and revise the protocols for armed engagement by law enforcement in America.”
Burke said “CGID intends to write our US Senators and Members of Congress from New York, to push for a national review and reform of protocols on how and when law enforcement officers engage in the use of force. This is long overdue. How many more black men must be killed before we take action?” Burke posited that “politicians who sit by and do nothing about the epidemic of law enforcement murders of innocent black men are equally complicit in these killings and should be held to account.”
Dallas police department Friday issued a statement claiming that the officer called for help and told responding officers “she entered the victim’s apartment believing that it was her own.” The incident took place at South Side Flats, an upscale apartment complex located in downtown, Dallas, a few blocks from Police headquarters.
Dallas Police said the officer was in full uniform and “fired her weapon striking the victim who was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Burke blasted the Dallas Police for not releasing details about how the officer reached into Jean’s apartment and whether a breathalyzer was administered, as would have been the case with an ordinary citizen. He also questioned how Jean’s name was released to the public when Police simultaneously confirmed that the next of kin notification was not made.
The CGID head said the officer’s story is inexplicable and implausible. Emphasizing that Caribbean community believes the officer’s account strains credulity, Burke questioned its veracity saying “if she went to the wrong apartment how did she make initial contact with Mr. Jean? How do you mistakenly shoot your neighbor who you see and presumably interact with regularly, without recognizing him? “The Dallas Police chief expressly stated that her department is no longer pursuing a “police involved shooting investigation,” but is seeking a warrant pursuant to a manslaughter investigation. Clearly the police evidence suggests that this is not an accident and that the officer’s account contradicts the evidence. Hence, in the interest of transparency CGID calls on the Dallas Police Department to stop disseminating misinformation and disclosed the facts and circumstances of Mr. Jean’s death forthwith, lest it is viewed as concealment,” Burke contended.
the US to study accounting at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He also studied at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, in Castries, St. Lucia before migrating to the US. At the time of his death, he worked in Dallas as a risk assurance associate for accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers.
CGID Has called on all Caribbean American organizations and nationals to condemn Jean’s killing and to support and express solidarity with his family.

Hants,
Another example of the rigged system. But in the US of A the white supremacist Jeff Sessions is fighting hard against the marijuana legalisation. He is reversing voting rights . He has reversed Obama led justice and policing reforms. The white supremacists are fighting back and rearing their hideous heads all over the world. We must be vigilant and not be like the proverbial frog boiling slowly or else we will be cooked before we know it. That is why the genteel white man pretending to care while providing the match for the stove lighting is more dangerous than the hooded ones. We all can see the hooded ones coming. But the other ones work on the minds of the weaker ones with flawed statistics to convince us that we deserve to be boiled.
Let’s talk one language. Don’t confuse legalisation and decriminalization.
‘It would not surprise me if more blacks ends up in prison after the three card game is over.

@Hants
I let google be my friend.’Canada is moving toward legalization.
In the US it is a mixture of legalization and decriminalization…
Just watched the Dave Chapelle video posted by Sarge. He’s exaggerating a little, I’m sure. Sad thing is that it is just A LITTLE.

John, your ‘alternate’ interpretation of the ‘human creation story’ does not provision whatsoever for the largest component of the human race; namely the Orientals dominated by the Chinese whose civilization(s) goes back many eons even before your eponymous Abraham, a vassal of Melchizedek.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
The frightening thing is that it does.
The “kingdom of the east” must trace it’s ancestry to Noah through one of his sons if all mankind except Noah and his family was destroyed.
The same nature the Sumerians had was present in all man.
The same son who went east took with him the knowledge of good and evil.
I’ll give you more food for thought.
There was another tree in the Garden of Eden which Adam never got around to sampling!!
The tree of life!!

Legalising marijuana in Canada will reduce the number of young black men in prison.
++++++++++++++++++++
But wouldn’t this just reduce the overall prison population and keep the stats the same?
Do you honestly think that there are no white or Hispanic inmates who are there because of marijuana?
Look at how agriculture spread.
Whether it had done so before or after the flood does not matter.
Had it done so before the flood, the survivors would have known where to go and what to do and would have repeated the process.
Then look at how civilization spread.
It followed agriculture.
The spread is away from the Ark … with the Ark at its centre.
The Tree of Life … Eternal Life.
Once Adam had lost the opportunity he and his offspring begun dying.
@Grasshopper
By statistics, you are talking of percentages.
By reduction we are talking of body counts
1 (20%) 2(40%) 2(40%)
100(20%) 200(40%) 200(40%)
Having 5 people in prison is a more desirable state the 500, even though the percentages are the same
Yes, the stats are not that important, it is the body count.
@John September 16, 2018 10:37 AM
“The “kingdom of the east” must trace it’s ancestry to Noah through one of his sons if all mankind except Noah and his family was destroyed.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
But John, this thesis is in serious conflict with your earlier assertion that:
@ John September 15, 2018 11:59 AM
“You can’t have distinct races springing from one ancestor!!
There is only one race, the human race!!”
So which son of Noah is the progenitor of the white man and which son is that of the ‘cursed’ black man?
Can you tell the difference between a Chinaman and a Bantu-speaking kaffir?
For clearly Noah’s wife had to be one promiscuous woman travelling on a jet plane of global miscegenation.
For clearly Noah’s wife had to be one promiscuous woman travelling on a jet plane of global miscegenation.

… walking works too!!
So, lets say Americans, whether they like to admit it or not, are all one race.
The prison population is the only important statistic.
Why are there so many Americans in prisonl?
Drugs, … legalization of marijuana, closing the borders to free flow of harder drugs are two ways of reducing it.
Unemployment …. if there are enough jobs to go around then people don’t have the time to think about crime.
Logical Conclusion: Trump will work miracles in the reduction of the prison population!!
Why does he get such opposition?
Mentioning ‘his’ name is a dog whistle for help. I am not going down the Trump or religious rabbit hole… 🙂
@John September 16, 2018 11:54 AM “Why are there so many Americans in prisonl?”
The Puritanical love of punishment maybe?
Don’t Americans lock up people for things that people in other countries routinely forgive?
Re the Sykes video.
Coercive sex was common place in the American South (and the Caribbean) during the period 1492 to 1898 and afterwards.
People lie about their sexual activity.
Women too. The more people have to lose in they breech the received social norms, the more likely they are to lie.
And then people lie some more.

I just having some sport and enjoying myself!!
Kavanaugh accuser comes forward. Typical story. She put it in the back of her mind which is a typical way of dealing with it. She struggled with its impact silently for a few years. She finally opened up during therapy in 2012. There are therapy notes that back up her story. of being assaulted by a person who went on to be influential in Washington. Her husband confirms that she did mention Kavanaugh’s name.
The stats will change because blacks are searched more than whites and therefore there are many more of them in prison for marijuana offences.
Whether or not we are all one race I do not know. What I know is how the world perceives and treats people who have a higher level of melanin. One drop of “black blood” apparently makes you black. If you look white in the winter but have a tendency to tan beautifully in the summer, once you have a drop of the other blood you are black. Your treatment would be a better than the average black but you are still at a disadvantage when compared with those who are classified as white. Same as in Barbados.
@Donna
Do you remember Anita Hill? Clarence Thomas was confirmed and so will Kavanaugh, interestingly the Republicans were able to produce 65 women at short notice to vouch for Kavanaugh’s character, it’s as if they knew of this accusation which had been percolating for a while and just had them in reserve.

“According to one Moneybrain it is Maxine Walters who is the embarrassment. I still have no idea why.”
You could leave off the ‘why’ Donna.
Let me help you…and get some tissues handy to wipe away the tears of laughter – I know lawson will!!
Now, I can see YOU might look up to that as a smart black woman, but to the rest of the world, she is a laughing stock!
And there’s MORE – described as one of the most CORRUPT politicians in Washington – by her OWN left wing…
If she spent a tenth as much on reeding and riting as she did on her wig and face-lifts, she might be of some use, but as it is, she is just a mouthy thief.
Oh…and for sheer black genius how about this guy – you may think he is joking, but NOPE..
Then there is the genius in Westminster, past mistress of Comrade Corbin the Jew hater who also has an expensive line in wigs…
Now if blacks keep electing morons like this to represent them, how are they EVER going to advance?

@PLT,
You got to be very careful of the crime discourse (especially those who keep on Googling to get their information). In the UK we have an ongoing debate about what they call county line rug deal. Basically young people who travel out of Greater London to the neighbouring counties to sell drugs.
If the focus remains on the supply side, the young lads who go out to sell drugs, then there is an over-concentration on young black people, in particular by the media. However, as I have said on a number of occasions, the emphasis should be on the demand side, the young, white professionals who want a constant supply of weekend drugs for their dinner parties. Bu, of course, the police and media do not want to go there.
Years ago, as a young Daily Mail investigator, I was working on a story about drug dealing in North West London and mentioned it at a Saturday black pudding and souse session we used to have. The myth at the time was that Asian corner shop owners used to work very hard and kept their shops opened night and day, that was why they were so successful. It took a young UK Bajan to disabuse me of that myth.
He told me that in many cases the shops were fronts for drug dealing. It is now common knowledge they are fronts for all kinds of crimes. I have tried to apply this thinking to Swan Street and those shop owners who only deal in cash. I am sure it goes on in Barbados. It certainly goes on in Brooklyn.

Try James Street too … in days gone b!!!
@Hal Austin
I agree that the drug trade has both a demand side as well as a supply side.
However what I’m talking about here is the criminal conspiracy operated by the police forces themselves.
@PLT
The police know about the supply and demand. It is deliberate which side they focus on.
@Hal Austin – when you say “Asian “ shopkeepers, I take it you are not referring to Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Nepali…?
I am talking about people from the sub-continent ie Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
But Maxine is not the one about to go down in flames..lol

Down, down, down: The Manafort plea is very bad news for President Trump
President Donald Trump attends a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House in September. (Pool)
Can you smell it?
That pungent, stinging reek in the air is a fear-drenched river of flop sweat rolling off Trump and his professional defenders. For Team Trump’s endless attempts to change the subject, toss out shiny distractions, beef with NFL players, boast about Trump’s self-graded A-plus hurricane responses and whine about the hated media, Robert Mueller landed a very big fish Friday.
By securing a cooperation agreement with Paul Manafort, Mueller unlocks a Pandora’s Box of crazy-making trouble for this White House and this President.
If Michael Cohen was a roadmap to the center of Trump’s financial and personal sleaze and corruption, Manafort is a travel guide to the inner workings of the Trump campaign, and of the actions of Russian spies and billionaire oligarchs to manipulate American interests and elections.”

I’ll take Maxine Walters (who is not in a leadership position) misstatements any day in preference to 45 who has been called an idiot; an effing idiot and a moron among other things by cabinet members whom he appointed.
Meanwhile flying under the radar is this Republican congressman who claimed that rising sea levels is due to rocks falling into the ocean

@45govt
Maybe you’ll listen to Beau above because he has the right colour skin.
@Peter
Beau unloaded!
I suspect the congressman is pulling the climate changers’ leg and getting a laugh at them!!
That is almost as good as Trump claiming climate change was a Chinese hoax!!
lawson thought it might be a game of marbles gone wrong while Kavanaugh was in grade 3, but according to today’s New York Times
“The woman who has accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her more than 30 years ago has come forward, saying that during a high school party a drunken Kavanaugh pinned her on a bed, groped her and covered her mouth to keep her from screaming. “I thought he might inadvertently kill me,” the woman, Christine Blasey Ford, a 51-year-old research psychologist at Palo Alto University in Northern California, said in an interview with The Washington Post. “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.” The Post’s article included an interview with Ford’s husband and her lawyer, Debra Katz, and described a therapist’s notes from 2012 in which Ford told of the attack….Friday. In her interview with The Post, Ford offered further detail, saying that one summer in the early 1980s, Kavanaugh and a friend, both “stumbling drunk,” led her into a bedroom at a home in Montgomery County, Maryland, where teenagers had gathered. The woman was wearing a bathing suit under her clothes. While his friend watched, the woman said, Kavanaugh pinned her down, grinding his body against hers and trying to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it. She said she was able to escape when Kavanaugh’s friend, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling. She told The Post that she ran from the room, briefly locked herself in a bathroom and then fled the house.
Glad it wasn’t my daughter or lawson’s.
The most corrupt person in Washington is your man Donald Trump. Also the most ignorant and stupid. I
cofefe that he be banished to NAMBIA, no make that BRITAIN or is it ENGLAND. I think he should have the PRESIDENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS for company.
Now I can see why YOU would look up to him as a smart white man but to more than half of America and all of the world (except the white supremacists) he is a laughing stock. Watch the late night comedy – ALL TRUMP ALL THE TIME!
I don’t have to post his videos because I know you have seen them. Besides, I am spoilt for choice. YET YOU DENY.
Simple Simon,
The woman also took a lie detector test administered by a former FBI agent. She decided to come forward because somebody seems to have leaked her name to a journalist and she realised that she had no choice but to face it.
The Republicans will probably hear her testimony if she is willing and then they will declare her to be a liar and confirm Kavanaugh. He is probably the only qualified judge who would be willing to protect Trump from Mueller. And that’s what it’s all about.
@Sargeant September 16, 2018 2:31 PM “Do you remember Anita Hill? Clarence Thomas was confirmed and so will Kavanaugh”
This is not 1991.
Kavanaugh will NOT be confirmed.
What if it was your 15 year old daughter?
15 is a MINOR. In law incapable of consenting.
@Simple, i am glad it wasnt my daughter or niece too….but tell me this….
If it was YOUR son who was “stumbling drunk” – presumably after you had pleaded, ordered and demanded that he not drink to drunkness at his uni parties – and he had stupidly got himself in this tizzy where he did not know what he was doing AND thankfully his victim had escaped as this lady did…AND none the “worst for wear” had not made a police issue of it at the time would you NOW accept that it was fair to YOUR son (who APPARENTLY learned his lesson and did not do tomfoolery like that again) to ATTACK him now???
Frankly I don’t like Cavanaugh’s politics so I admittedly would not like him to be confirmed but absent a BrockTurner situation were Cavanaugh was charged at THE time this is basically WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
At least in Thomas’ situation the charges of sexual impropriety were more current in his adult life as a sober person.
No one condones the stupidity people do under the influence of alcohol or drugs but such an attempt as a drunk TEENAGER NOW being prosecuted…
John got to be bloody kidding! To take one example of justice done in one small part of such a vast country and declare that the system is working is just an insult to our intelligence. See what I mean about these people? To think that that was gonna fly!!! Who the bloody hell do they think they are talking to?
PS. Correction to above ” The US Virgin Islands”
How do you know he has learnt his lesson? This woman kept quiet for ages. How do you know that there aren’t more women afraid of the national spotlight, afraid of powerful Washington men. Besides, a victim has a right to speak about what happened no matter how long ago it happened. And a man should be prepared to pay for his actions no matter how long ago he did them. Time does not erase the trauma a victim feels. She was in therapy as recently as 2012. She could still be having nightmares. You speak like a typical male.
I speak as a woman who has a son. I tell him he must be prepared to pay for his actions. If all he lost was a lifelong appointment to the Supreme Court I would tell him that he’s been very lucky. So… THIS IS RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT.
