@Artaxerxes
You neglect one major and salient point which I would like you to answer :
While Reudon Eversley and Hartley Henry et al were writing, there was always a BLP mouthpiece present to counter. EZRA ALLEYNE was given a column every Friday which served one purpose – to put the BLP perspective and spin the news for Owen Arthur.
Can you show me the columnists employed by the Nation BLP Newspaper who are given that platform to support the government?
I deal with facts not the hollow partisan emotion which you are displaying.
I will wait for your answer. Interestingly, not one of the “DLP writers” you mentioned above has been retained by the Nation newspaper EXCEPT for the one who is now advising Mia Mottley and speaking at the BLP assemblies (Mr. Wickham).
Meanwhile EZRA ALLEYNE is still writing in the Nation BLP Newspaper. Coincidence?
Peter Wickham and Albert Brandford – serve one purpose on Sundays, week after week – to criticize the government .
That is their opinion and right but you are telling me that out of the many thousands of other capable writers out there who are willing to contribute that the Nation BLP newspaper can only find BLP supporters to write commentary in their paper.
That is why the Nation newspaper is called the Nation BLP Newspaper because it is functioning as a public relations arm of the BLP.
so….taxes became one of the sources of revenue in helping to pay off some debt,,, when govt use NIS ,,the blp yardfowls belly ached,,,use of funds from the central bank the blp yardfowls belly ache,,,,,,,,the blp yardfowls call for lay off became a reality ,,,and now they bellyache,,,,,,in the meanwhile the shadow leader of the BLP OSA has crawled out of the closet from whence he has been hiding making his presence snipping at the govenor,,( some what small pickings) one not to questions his motives find it some what [suspicious that at a time when the country is in volatile stage due to restructuring and implementation of measures that would be helpful in stabilizing the economy OSA would take center stage to provoke rather than let the the leader MIA take charge and speak on economic matters affecting the country,,,
“I deal with facts not the hollow partisan emotion which you are displaying.”
That my friend… is bare shiite. If you were indeed dealing “with facts not the hollow partisan emotion”, you would have been a bit more balanced. For example, you would also have taken issue with:
• The partisan manner in which CBC’s call-in program “Talk ya Talk” is being conducted, whereby supporters of the DLP are given latitude to develop their points, while persons with another view are shouted off the program by the ONLY two moderators on the show;
• That Maureen Holder & John Lovell have relayed to all and sundry that they support the DLP;
• The unprofessional and biased towards the DLP manner in which Maureen Holder & John Lovell moderates the program; and the fact that both are rude and uncouth;
• The way CBC TV8 evening news is being presented…… in favour of the DLP;
• How this present administration is using CBC and the Government Information Service to promote their propaganda;
• That out of the hundreds of lawyers in Barbados…the only lawyers CBC can give to give advice on legal matters are Hal Gollop (who has been seen in the company of the PM and at every DLP “cock fight”), Verla De Peiza, the DLP candidate for Christ Church West, and R. E Guyson Mayers, former Chairman of RDC and one who also expressed an interest in contesting the St. Joseph seat for the DLP;
• The same way you perceive the Nation as being biased towards the BLP… the Advocate can be seen the same way towards the DLP, since MANY of their columnists are pro DLP;
My friend…… week after week you coming with the same shiite…… “hollow partisan emotion” shiite. You have constantly stated that the Nation is biased towards the BLP and you have absolutely no problem with the Advocate displaying a similar bias for the DLP…
Is this is not “hollow partisan emotion which you are displaying”?
Since you seem so repetitively knowledgeable about everything and everyone maybe you are in a position to tell BU why Reudon and Hartley no longer comment favourably about your faultless DLP administration.
We can understand why Peter would withdraw his support for Fumble but Eversley and Henry remain a puzzle.
What would you say if both are given columns in your much styled BLPNationNeswpaper?
We shall soon see if your contributions continue under the same pseudonym after the Crop-over season as harsh economic realities set in and the heat of devaluation intensifies. That would put you right at the start of the 18 months period you were given to stew in your lies and deceit and the implosion of your administration begins to manifest.
You can always get Jepter Ince to write a paper justifying the need to devalue the dollar and the economic benefits expected there from.
A fair observer must agree with NationBLPnewspaper.
Newspapers around the world tend to side with a political party that fits their philosophy. The new York Times here in New York editorially leans to the Democratic Party as opposed to the Republicans. The difference is that the NYT also engages a variety of writers to put the case of the Republicans as well. This doesn’t occur with the Nation whose editorialists and columnists are either card carrying BLP members or unashamedly slant their articles to favor the BLP. Even the hard news which should not be editorialized is frequently slanted to needle and hurt the ruling party. A classic example is the blaring headlines that 60 people will be sent home from the Central Bank when the Governor never made such an affirmative statement.
To the names NationBLPnewspaper lists one should add a Tennyson Joseph. Having read a bit of his crap he not only tries to disrespect the ruling party but he disrespects Barbados and Barbadians with impunity. Apparently he is from one of the low islands but is afforded a golden opportunity by the dodgy patriotism or lack of at the Nation to attack Barbados and Barbadians. All the while he is lazing about as a tutor at Cave Hill collecting money from Bajan taxpayers. He should be deported forthwith. The Nation should make an attempt to balance their political cheer leading for the BLP by engaging a coterie of pro DLP writers and columnists.
“Can you show me the columnists employed by the Nation BLP Newspaper who are given that platform to support the government?”
From the time this administration was elected to office, they decided not to co-operate with the Nation. It went to such an extent that one morning a lady called Larry Mayers to ask his opinion on an article in the Nation, to which he replied management has forbidden them to comment on anything in the Nation or to read anything from the Nation on air. Check the recent comments by the AG, Adriel Brathwaite at a forum, at which he publically stated the Nation hates the DLP. It is only recently that the DLP has returned to using the Nation’s advertising services.
With that childish attitude (which by chance is similar to the one you are constantly displaying), do you expect any of your DLP supporters to accept any offer to write a column in the Nation. Even if you heard the comments by the AG, Adriel Brathwaite at a recently held forum, at which he publically stated that the Nation hates the DLP. It is only recently that the DLP has returned to using the Nation’s advertising services.
The owner or owners of the newspapers usually lean to a specific political worldview, but that does not suggested in any meaningful way that the employees of that particular newspaper establishment do likewise.
I hope you express the same sentiments about the Advocate.
“To the names NationBLPnewspaper lists one should add a Tennyson Joseph. All the while he is lazing about as a tutor at Cave Hill collecting money from Bajan taxpayers.”
Yes, Tennyson Joseph is from one of the “low islands”…… St. Lucia to be exact, and I agree that he has been “afforded a golden opportunity by the dodgy patriotism or lack of at the Nation to attack Barbados and Barbadians; all the while he is lazing about as a tutor at Cave Hill collecting money from Bajan taxpayers.”
But Mr. Towers….. is not Mara Thompson, MP for St. John not from the “low island” of St. Lucia as well? Has she not been afforded a golden opportunity by the dodgy DLP patriotism of voters like you, to attack Barbados and Barbadians, all the while she is lazing about as a member of parliament “collecting money from Bajan taxpayers”?
You are so uncomfortable with Joseph’s attack on Barbadians because, in your view, he being a BLP foreigner has no right to attack Bajans… but Mara Thompson, a DLP foreigner has the right to criticize Bajans.
I guess your justification of her behavior is that it matters not who are the Barbadians she attacks, unless they are BLP supporters.
The Governor has spoken in the matter of the Central Vs the Nation newspaper. The Nation newspaper as always gone for sensationalism and its headline 69 to GO was no departure but the question is if the Governor’s decision not invite Nation reporters to its press conference is draconian. The discussion must take off against the background the Nation has the widest circulation in Barbados.

Good one there, Artaxerxes!
We should look forward to see how the ‘off-balanced’ Twin Towers is going to deal with his dichotomous hypocrisy and double-standard brand of jingoism emanating from his bifurcated nasty tongue.
But what can we expect from a liar when confronted with factual evidence and the truth other than eschew the exposure and creepily slip away to the cesspit of vipers in George Street.
The governor getting so much licks all over that he may be holding press conferences with the Cabinet of Barbados only. For it seems that is a only crowd that believes him or has faith in his well seasoned advice!!!
You are making some very dangerous statements with regard to Tennyson Joseph. I do not care where he comes from; he has a right to voice an opinion based on his expertise and training, some thing you do not seem to have acquired.
I am no friend of Peter Wickham, but he has made the point that Bajans must be very careful when we get caught up in this kind of small minded political view of life and the Caribbean.
The DLP wanted to throw Owen out of Barbados for his position on Mara being in our House of Assembly, but you have the gall to spout forth this small minded political filth here. When you are at it, remember James Paul is St. Lucian and Barbados has quite a few St. Lucians who vote in our elections.
Why wouldn’t one be convince that the Nation Newspaper supports the BLP? When several years ago the former CID detective and former Nation Newspaper Journalist Wade Gibbons, wrote an article featuring Owen Arthur, that Arthur didn’t take to kindly to. So, Wade Gibbons was booted through the door with a quick dispatch. I am sure David knows what I am talking about because just after his termination, Mr. Gibbons posted his resentment against the chief editor at the Nation Newspaper on BU at the time.
@ Enuff | May 11, 2014 at 9:18 AM |
“That Mara bouncer sent Twin Towers straight to A&E. Not even a helmet could save him.”
That Mara repartee from the attacking Artaxerxes did more damage to the image of the mockup version than Al Queda terrorists did to the real Twin Towers.
Let us see if he would rise from the rubble.; probably under a different moniker like “Waiting” in the shaky house in George Street about to fall when the nuclear bomb called Devaluation is ejected from the Guv’s erection in Church Village.
That will be one piece of news no DLP politician wants to deliver.
“Why wouldn’t one be convince that the Nation Newspaper supports the BLP?”
You guys are not getting the fundamental point…. you are focusing too much on whether or not the Nation newspaper supports the BLP, instead of examining the issue with media as a whole. There was a time prior to 2008, that the Nation and VOB were seen as pro DLP, in that numerous supporters used both media with the help of journalist, columnists and moderators, to effectively put some warm lashes in the then BLP administration.
I remember the days of VOB call-in programs when DLP supporters lined up one after the other to serve some stringing attacks on the BLP, ably assisted by moderators like Maxine McClean, Tony Marshall, Ralph Jemmott and Akintoolove Corbin in taking the fight to the BLP. To people like Dompey, ac and Twin Towers, the Nation and VOB were the best things since sliced bread.
Now the tables have apparently turned….. i.e. the modus operandi is similar, but this time around against the DLP, these party hacks have a problem.
Ha ha ha if Carson Cadogan puts in an appearance miller, Articxerxes , enuff not to forget prodigal and the gaggle of BLP yard fowls would run under their mother’s skirts in fear. Big steups.
“Ha ha ha if Carson Cadogan puts in an appearance……….”
Carson Cadogan shiite…….. he is not a threat anyone. Maybe he is still trying to recover after being exposed as the fraud he is [like this administration] making promises during the 2013 election campaign that he could not keep, after the Rastaman got the services of the NATION to publish the circumstances surrounding him being deceived by CCC.

“Ha ha ha if Carson Cadogan puts in an appearance miller, Articxerxes , enuff not to forget prodigal and the gaggle of BLP yard fowls would run under their mother’s skirts in fear.”
What a sight for sore intellectual eyes that would be!
We really miss the gadfly, though.
Please tell him to return please pretty please! we are tired of asinine Dompey and boring ac. We want some real fire to fight.
But he must come prepared to debate the issue of Devaluation. After all, he was last seen running away from the BU game show mumbling anti-DLP invectives and carrying a yellow flag that read: “The Barbados dollar is woefully overvalued and in need of a serious correction”.
Let Carson Cadogan return to BU and explain himself since neither the worried Guv Worrell nor the ventriloquist puppet MoF seems capable to stopping CCC’s words from coming true.
looka miller ac got nuff nuff tongue lashing pre elections,,,ac stood the course and ac was right,,,,,ac now watching how the BLP so desperate that they have now drag out the spent force OSA to put he two cents in about the VAT,,,,,,,,,don;t yuh see how foolish wunna sound day after day convincing wunna self that the dollar going devalue,,, that the whole of barbados must be privatized,,,,not even the great economist have so far said anything to garner support about the measures being implementing to save the country from free falll,,,, however he choose to pick the low hanging fruit of VAT a tax which he implemented on the backs of people,,,,

Don’t be a jackass, the GOCB is stark raving mad man who would only destroy what little is live of the bajan economy if he is given the chance. He is a effect example what you should never put an IDIOT to do a man job no matter his political affliation.
He is an certifiable outpatient of the looney bin.

The new York Times here in New York editorially leans to the Democratic Party as opposed to the Republicans. The difference is that the NYT also engages a variety of writers to put the case of the Republicans as well……………………….
You serious? Which NYT engages writers to put Republicans’ case? NYT is a wholesale partisan Democrat party newspaper whose partisanship has it in deep financial trouble! Even if they deign to put a good word in, it would be buried deep in the last pages!
You are deceiving BU readers!
If I had to write that Page one Editorial for the Nation today, all I would have told the governor of the Central Bank is………….”.the Nation will still be around when you are no longer governor. We will be there without an invitation to take your picture on the day you are no longer governor and going through the door. Until then, you have a right to ban us……we will get the last laugh when you have to join the minister of finance to announce the devaluation.” You joker.
The governor is only ashamed because he is presiding over a failed economy because make no bones about it, he is the one running this economy and that for the past three years he has presided over a bank which has recorded losses while commercial banks are awashed with money and making record profits.
The governor is just angry that he got caught in his deceit…………staff of the bank know that there is a list already drawn up and the staff are saying that they hope that the governor’s name is number one on the list. Sixty is the number that staff say has been bandied about, the staff are angry and moral is at the lowest ebb. The only people happy there maybe the press person and the governor………..no wonder they brought in the man to “reimagine” things. Have we not be saying that something is wrong with the governor!
What the Governor has done is to make an ‘adversary’ of a newspaper with the largest circulation in Barbados. Let us see how it plays out.

David:
That puzzled me. How do you fly in the face of the media that has been making you look good all this time. It is like the DLPites here when the comments here are favoring the DLP all is wonderful, but when that changes, the whole world should censored.
BU has been around with both administrations in office and what is common is when the honeymoon fades the sitting administration goes hostile. The DLP is running through true to form.
f..ck pizza what a name,,,,,,pillsbury dough boy u ought to stick to meking pizza or eating pizza,,,,u no economist,,,,,,,,,, just another two faced hypocrite always talking about tax burden and the govt imposing taxes….now the govenor believes a more feasible and fair alternative than vat can do better ,,jerks like u talking ….pup,,,,,,,,oSA not a god ,,he aint have the last or final word on any economy,,,, most of the time ,,trial and error is the decider on how to plan and implement policies more like a lesson learned from past successes and failures nothing in economics is sealed proof…things can be altered or change according to movements or trends,,,,,highs and lows are the normal,,,maybe the govenor is right the vat has run its course and maybe it is time govt look at a better and fairer tax moving forward,,,,,OSA my a,ssss
The DLP had literally f..upped this country by their wrong headed policies and their arrogance. People say they went off the cliff when DT got sick but I am not convinced that things would have been any different were DT still alive as he outsourced every major economic position and was only a CEO.
The DLP was warned from early after their first budget in 2008 that their taxation policies were wrong. They cursed everyone off. When Alex McDonald said recently that people are afraid to speak out…………right out of the blocks came Donville Inniss who called Alex at home to cuss him off……thus proving Alex’s point. George Bell spoke out at a BLP assembly, he was being checked for contravening the public order act. Now we have a man who is supposed to be dealing over with the country’s finances and he disdainfully issues a ban on a newspaper.
What is he going to do? Send home 59 persons instead of 60 so as to prove the Nation wrong. I wonder what Harold Hoyte is saying now……….he must be in a daze to see what his party is doing to his newspaper, his baby!
the gov has every right to be angry,,,,,the dirty rag has come up short too many times ,,with too many half truths and inconsistencies,,this is peoples lives ,the fourth estate called the nation is a national disgrace for a paper and moreover since it commands a large percentage of readership,,it has an obligation to get its facts right,,,before printing,,,, .diarrhea and presenting it as news,,
you prod igal where was is the govt going to get the money from to pay off the debt,,,,,,,,,yuh a.ss not going to answer that,,but come up her on the BU wall scribbling the same s,,t over and over again,, OSA the architect of VAT( a tax) have no problem wid it being in place,,,,,so that should tell that the defunct shadow leader thinks that a tax of some sort is feasible and should not be tampered or change,,,,, almost contrary to the govenor proposal of wanting to remove,,,,,,yeah vat is a tax that the great economist is defending,,,guess it is alright if OSA imposed such measures to save the economy under his watch,,but when the present govt used similar measures to save country wunna scream bloody murder..,,,
So david because you have the largest circulation you can act with impunity. The paper by its own admission today incorrectly reports on a private conversation and they thinks its okay if they print a correction they full well know nobody reads. Once a lie is told the truth cannot catch it.
The paper has perfected the art of lying and feels it can act with impunity because of its large circulation. Worrell clearly cannot win but sometimes yu have to take a stand against the powerful and arrogrant.
to me, the nation behaves no different from Cable and wireless used to behave and still wants to behave. when you have a powerful market position this kinda arrogance comes along.
This is not a black or white matter to rush to decision simply to appease the sensibilities of an irate Governor.

Stop making this about Arthur, both Professor Michael Howard and President of the Barbados Economic Society have disagreed with the Governor that a sales tax is a better option compared to VAT.

I have told this BU a long time ago that what is happening in B’dos under this DLP will get worse .the devil is in the DLP therefore a fire sale
The Dlp won in 2008 with money David Thompson and Leroy Paris Thief from clico policy holders , in 2013 won by thief and buying votes . all the assisters are paying gust take a look and see the physical shape and the mentality of the Dlp
therefore anger on the people . we have 43 months more in hell
ac,
Has anyone in George Street ever given you the talking points to inform you that the DLP has borrowed more money in six years than the BLP did in its 14 years in office? And by spending more money than it was receiving every year in revenue, this DLP government added 2.6 billion dollars to the debt.
The hurtful thing is that there is nothing much to show for this massive borrowing. One cannot even say that they used some of the money to fix up George Street. Oh my goodness, I pass there recently and was appalled at the condition of this party house……the place where all the devious things are plotted and is heavily used, the ceiling is falling down and the face boards are rotting away. I cannot imagine how the inside must look.
I should not be surprised though, my goodness they are running the country just like George Street……every thing falling down, breaking down like the equipment at Mangrove and the economy is in ruins and we have a senile fool for a governor every quarter telling the people…….we expect growth in 2015 and 2016. The economy has not grown in this first quarter, when they were expecting growth as the minister kept saying that this is the best winter season.
Everything this DLP touches has gone to pots! If the DLP cared about this country, they would have resigned as they clearly cannot get this job done.
It is why BU is somewhat ambivalent to what has unfolded.

“OSA the architect of VAT( a tax) have no problem wid it being in place,,,,,”
It is erroneous to say that OSA is the architect of VAT…..this tax was supposed to be introduced before the 1994 election…. the DLP lost and the BLP had to introduce it. Before it was introduced, the Arthur administration
If you were to read page 97 and 99 of “Barbados: The Development of a Value Added Tax” by Roland Craigwell, Kelvin Dalrymple and Merton Moore:
“In order to coordinate the extensive work of implementing a V AT the Government of Barbados established a VAT Implementation Unit (VIU) in 1993. This unit was established as part of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.” p97
“When the Arthur Administration came to office in 1994, the implementation of the VAT was postponed to April 1996. In addition a request was made to the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department for technical assistance to do a more extensive study to estimate the VAT rate scientifically as well as the impact of V AT on revenues, prices and the productive sectors.” p99
I am ambivalent myself. to me as i read the comment from the nation today they are asking the governor of the bank for a level of consideration they don’t give. they shoot first and ask questions after, but get upset when another organization does the same. thats how bullies behave.
As an organization, the central bank is still one of the best run entities in bim and remains a centre of excellence. yu know how much damage to staff morale and employer, employee relations has probably been done by that story.
don’t mind david and the blp yardfowls,,they will be quick to chastise the govt for what is blatant untruth by the nation…….don;’t expect much more from them,as far as any issue goes for this govt,l,this govt will be wrong all the time,,so said so done and taken from the hand book of slash and burn by prodigal; and the miller,,who just can seem to understand that the election is over,,the gov,has a responsibility to people; and country unlike the nation whose only responsibility is to sell news by any means necessary,,they ought to apologies ,,instead of printing a self serving retraction to appease,,,
And for you they are right all the time so what does that make you?

@NationBLPnewspaper
Some of us will not give the comment much credence because both BLP and DLP accuse media of being hostile, it is warm over soup. The questioning of the Advocate and CBC is also legit and addresses the surrender of local media to the politicos and advertisers.

prodigal now hear you….the dlp borrow money,,,now tell the people why……don.t just come up in here like a bald pooch cat s.hhitt,g nonsense in the air,,,,,,,go ahead tell the BU household why,,,wunna don;t want to pay the taxes to pay off the debt,,,,,then how de f..the bills gonna pay,,yuh think lay off alone wudda suffice,,,this is a country to run,,not a friggin bread and cheese rum shop…,to run govt cost money lottttss of it,,,,,no go call miller,,,,,to cuss my a,ss… jack a.ss.
the way i read the governor is that the economic news is not good, he has to put the best context on this news otherwise its all over for the exchange rate and the ability to raise financing. If he comes across negative at all, that goes global immediately and we are dead. yu can disagree with the strategy but like others he is doing what he thinks best for bim. some think the best thing is to have a change of govt, others think we have a govt lets make the best of it, some want to show how smart they are, some are blindly political , some are heavily invested in arthur and his legacy. so many camps, at least to me the the governor is trying his best for the country as he sees it.
Anyone in the market understands we are in bad shape and the confidence which the Governor encourages is not happening.

oh.. and one more thing david tthe shadow leader OSA open the door when he talk about the gov response to VAT and once that door was opened
OSA made himself available for crticism..so yes OSA made it about himself not ac,,,,,for months ac never mentioned OSA,,thought he had finally retired but seems he choose to be retard still can;t give MIA total control……..it always must be about HIM……..
the press overestimates its power in bim. the place is small people have a lot of info outside what the press prints. the spin doctors and operators need to recognize this, this is not the us where reality is largely constructed by the press.
they all cuss bout sandals, i see several hundred people on the job site in christ church, not a word about that. In bim people get that info for themselves and from family and friends.
but if he condemns, disparages, preaches gloom and doom as some seem to want, how does that help, to me he is seek to provide a story, trying to speak to the segment of the market that wants to believe in us something to hold on to.
a lot of our commentators seem caught up in “I told you so,” “I have a more negative story than You.” Thats fine and people have a right to their views and to express them, but its not a strategy for getting us through this.
we at least announced and are implementing an austerity plan that seemed to have stemmed the bleeding of last year at least to date. how to build on this.
we are where we are, i laud those who are spending some time and effort in how to hold ground and even go forward, rather than those who wallow in “I told you so.”
Prodigal
Do not forget Rev Charles Morris received correspondence from the Ministry of Education ‘axsking he to explain eself’.
Can you all imagine a governor doing this crap with an EWB,or JGMG,or HBStJ or OSA at the hellum!In the first place he would not have been appointed Governor by any of these former MoF/PMs.What a poor example of a civil servant.Crude,abrasive,coarse,ill bred,unmannerly,ungrateful,no class just like the DLP cabinet.
Someone said Darcy is to be the next governor.Lawd have its mercy.A traitor has no place in the employment of anyone.A traitor and a liar are two of the worst people to employ.Darcy a governor of the CBB?How much lower can we go.
Another out of place civil servant is the acting GM of BWA.Another crude brute whose interactive skills are more in tune with the police force of a bygone era.Send he back to he mudda country nuh!
Look
The Governor cannot be a serious administrator to sit down with a Nation reporter and give them “private” information about layoffs …and NOT expect that they will sensationalize it….
Shiite man…does he not read BU?
He don’t know that the Nation’s mission is to destabilize Barbados to soften us for TRICKIDADIAN ownership?
Why did he not just say that they are” exploring various options” with respect to staffing?
…and once the damage is done, why throw gasoline on the fire? ..when he could have simply shown how unprofessional the Nation behaved? …in any case, he should have discussed the matter internally with staff before talking shiite with the press….
Not only does the man not understand exchange rate philosophy, he is no PR or administrative wizard either…..
…perhaps he should be assigned to the Top Gear project….
“the way i read the governor is that the economic news is not good, he has to put the best context on this news otherwise its all over for the exchange rate and the ability to raise financing. If he comes across negative at all, that goes global immediately and we are dead. yu can disagree with the strategy but like others he is doing what he thinks best for bim”
That is a load of hog wash….. do you believe that the international rating agencies and financial institutions will wait until the Governor of the Central Bank goes to the media a review to make any decision on how to grade this economy.
The Governor gives a synopsis of the state of the economy during his economic reviews. Detailed information with the relevant charts for references are compiled and made available to these institutions and to the public via the Central Bank’s website. This information is reviewed and interpreted by the economists of these various institutions…… no matter what spin the governor applies.
Bad Boy. What nonsense you talking about a “Private Conversation”. The GoCB is a public figure, point blank. Any statements made with any person – journalist or drunkard regarding the entity that he manage should be analysed and thought of to avoid any repercussion. Did he made statement of staff reduction? If yes why is he mad. Did he talk about special packages to these staff? If the answer is yes again, why he mad. Did he during his shit talk mentioned a “60” by the slip of his tongue? If the answer is yes why he so mad. If the shit talk was made with a glass of alcoholic beverages, we all know that a drunkard usually express what is in his mind. So why is vexation. This takes us to the senior law enforcer who heard “a private conversation” with two people planning to harm the MoF. Not a thing was done about the statement. But again, if the PM and the AG witnessed vote buying and nothing was done, how on earth can be a GoCB get so powerful. , Probably, this might be the beginning of the silencing of the press that could lead to dictatorial behaviour. That mean the Advocate and CBC will be the only mouthpiece of the Govt and we will hear what the Govt want us to hear. Here ends the freedom of the press. David, you might be next.
Every time I call out the Nation newspaper as the obvious BLP mouthpiece that it is and back my point with clear facts , the response from partisans like yourself is ” CBC does do it too”.
Is that the best you can do?
But then again , the evidence is so overwhelming that The Nation newspaper acts as the BLP public relations department that not even the most rabid yardfowls like yourself can prove different.
We cannot raise the standard of journalism in this country when the largest paper in the country is continually willing to intentionally stretch and bend the truth to sell papers because they have set aside a slush fund to deal with law suits.
You still have not answered my question :
How come the BLP writer Ezra Alleyne is still writing at the Nation while all of the pro DLP writers that you claimed wrote previously in the Nation are all gone now except for Peter Wickham who advises Mia Mottley?
How come in addition to Ezra Alleyne , the Nation newspaper has ensured that a BLP supporter is writing in the Nation every day of the week, coincidence?
How come the BLP spokesman Mascoll is given a free political ad every Thursday in the Nation BLP Newspaper?
You can spin it any way but the evidence is there for all to see- the Nation newspaper is acting as the BLP public relations department and that is why Mottley can call Ms. Martindale and get on the front page anytime she wants.
“Some of us will not give the comment much credence because both BLP and DLP accuse media of being hostile, it is warm over soup.”
Exactly David, that’s the point I was trying to establish to the jackass.
The Advocate newspaper acts as the DLP public relations department that not even the most rabid yardfowls like NationBLPnewspaper can prove different.
It seems to me that the supporters of the DLP are hostile to those who hold a different perspective on matters from theirs. If you do, you are being “partisan”….. seems as though no one is allowed to have an independent opinion on the inept style of governance being exhibited by this administration, unless they are a member of the BLP.
My real concern is when the media aligns itself with any political party, the sitting administration is given a “get out of jail free” card, and pertinent issues evades the spotlight. Then, we witness a situation where the news is manipulated to reflect the propaganda of the ruling party, as has been the norm at CBC TV and radio over the years.
It is forums, such as Barbados Underground, that are called upon to be the spoke persons for the masses, while giving them the medium to express their views.
David your talking points and spin does not in any way rectify or nullify the wrecklessness and unprofessionalism displayed by the nationnewspaper.the issue is not one of guilt by association but the potential harm poised from false and misleading information
………but if he condemns, disparages, preaches gloom and doom as some seem to want, how does that help, to me he is seek to provide a story, trying to speak to the segment of the market that wants to believe in us something to hold on to…………………………………………………….
So the ends justifies the means and in true DLP style to lie and deceive, you believe that the CB governor must give a false impression of Barbados’ economy.
What happens when investors come and find out for themselves the true state of play? Would not this deception do more damage to Barbados’ image than telling the truth up front?
What a tangle web the Dems weave when they practice to deceive!
David,
Are you aware that the link to the CB report is not opening, an error message comes up. The same is true on the actual CB website. I am now awaiting to get the link from someone I know in there.
I know this is not the gov’s job but it is things like this that should be his concern. He thinks he is powerful now, power only last so long. As Yestwick said, time longer than twine.
ratings agencies and others do their own research but official documents and statements are important and influence key players. We are already non-investment grade the investors who will still look at us rely less on ratings agencies and others.
Everyone has to interpret how to do their job. It seems that his view is that at this delicate juncture he has to try and present the best possible face on the economic picture. he presented the facts,which paint a bad economy and to me he has not taken liberty with the facts (I would be very critical if i thought that was being done) where he has some leeway is with the spin around those facts.
A lot on this blog and elsewhere for a variety of reasons want condemnation of the administration and its management of the economy hence they are most unhappy with him. I see a guy trying his best to do his part in the information flow to try against great odds to help us hold on to the fixed exchange rate and access adequate levels of financing. I cant fault that.
BushTea wrote “The Governor cannot be a serious administrator to sit down with a Nation reporter and give them “private” information about layoffs …and NOT expect that they will sensationalize it….”
I tell wunna Bushie know evahting an he proving it again.
The Governor of the Bank of Canada, The Fed Reserve board chairman and the Governor of the Bank of England are always EXTREMELY CAREFUL what they say and to whom.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados should do the same.
“I see a guy trying his best to do his part in the information flow to try against great odds to help us hold on to the fixed exchange rate and access adequate levels of financing. I cant fault that.”
I find your analysis to be flawed (and apologetic for the Governor of the Central Bank). My reason for coming to this conclusion is that if “his view is that at this delicate juncture he has to try and present the best possible face on the economic picture” and he put his spin on the actual economic situation to reflect the views held by this administration, the data will be reviewed independent of Dr. Worrell’s analysis.
For example, if you listened to Dr. Worrell’s presentation: “Macroeconomic Policies for Stabilisation and Growth for Very Small Economies” (April 2014) at the Peterson Institute for International Economics; during the question and answer session, you would have realized that the audience did not take his thesis on face value. Some individuals in the audience questioned the use of fiscal policy to manage aggregate demand and stabilize the exchange rate, taking other micro and macro economic variables into consideration.
As such, those reviewing the Central Bank reports will also question their validity, especially within the context of the data that is actually contained therein compared to the Governor’s spin on it.
What is more important to note, is that “preaching doom and gloom” or painting a pretty picture of the economy, does not prevent any currency from being devalued.
Surely you must agree that, if there are significant variances between the Governor’s spin and the actual results, not only will confidence in our economy will be affected, but Dr. Worrell’s integrity will also be brought into question as well.
The link belongs to Central Bank they must have moved the document. Will fix it.

You are wasting your time talking to “bad boy”. He is just another Dem using another moniker.
He is set in his view that the governor has to put a spin on the state of the economy for the greater good. Leave him alone, you cannot convince him that the international agencies nor the investors would not listen to this man no more than you could convince the “brek up dem” that CBC and the Advocate are wholly in the tank for the government.
What I would like to get from you is your views on the other controversial and ignorant remark the governor made about him going and borrowing 300 million dollars at an almost extortion rate to boot, only to come now and tell us as if we are ignorant that he borrowed because people were nervous.
If that statement does not confirm to us that he is losing it, I dont know what would. Is he for real? Would you go to a bank and borrow money just because you can? I get calls quite often from my bank asking me if dont want a loan…………would I go and borrow the bank’s money just because they offered it to me? No.
the man presented the facts. he showed the economy fell by 0.4%, tourism down by 1%, unemployment up, that the fiscal numbers were worse than expected. so to me the facts were there and presented for all to see. i fail to see your issue with his presenting the best face on the slew of bad news. maybe yu are the poilitcial one and want him to bash everything to give others the ammunition they want, whatever the consequences.
Bad boy:
When the place starts to come apart, you and your people shall be facing the starvation and want not the Governor; he has save passage to the US or Europe. So what are you protecting, the harbinger of your demise!! You are very very close the slave who said oh how I love slavery!!
“What I would like to get from you is your views on the other controversial and ignorant remark the governor made about him going and borrowing 300 million dollars at an almost extortion rate to boot, only to come now and tell us as if we are ignorant that he borrowed because people were nervous.”
On December 20, 2013 the Central Bank of Barbados revealed that Barbados had secured a five year US$150 million (Bds $300M) loan from regional and international investors. In accordance with government’s medium-term fiscal and growth strategy, proceeds from this loan were to be used to prop up the net international reserves and for investment in capital projects.
This was against the background of an IMF Article IV Consultation, which identified the high fiscal deficit, and declines in the reserves of over BDS$400M [on account of low capital inflows].
If you read the “Business Monday” of May 30, 2013, Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler, speaking at the 187th annual general meeting of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce held at the Hilton Barbados, was quoted as saying that “Barbados’ strong foreign exchange position as the key achievement to hold the country together in the current economic downturn.” Sinckler also went on to remind the audience that it was government’s “insistence on protecting the vital foreign reserves that had prevented the economy from collapsing.”
We need Sinckler and Dr. Worrell to tell us what happened between May and December 13, 2013 [after the IMF consultation] that led to a decline in the reserves?
If you read Stabroek News.com of January 22, 2014:
“While it cannot be concluded that the government has signed an IMF agreement, it is certainly the case that the decisions came consequent on extensive discussions with that institution, and has its general agreement. The Fund’s representatives have emphasized the extent to which tourism receipts “have remained flat” and the country’s “current account deficit is projected to widen to 11.4% of GDP this year,” the highest in the region.”
All you have to do is relate the above to the Central Bank’s first quarterly report for 2014. You must also be reminded that the IMF consultation revealed that there was a decline in earnings by the country’s foreign exchange earning sectors principally Tourism and the International Business and Financial Services sectors.
It is sad when those of us who do research have to rely on other sources for information. We have factions in the media that supports the government’s view and publish what the government wants Barbadians to hear; and another section that likes to sensationalize trivial issues.
There is no serious examination and analysis of issues. With this in mind, I cannot understand why the DLP is so afraid of the Nation newspaper, because it does not pose any real threat to them.
so the gov has rightfully (so) renege on the threat of not allowing the dirty rag the nation newspaper from being present at news conference etc,,,,,,,,it was a good call ,by the gov,,,,,which hopefully has closed the mouths of the cackling BLP geese who infiltrate the call in programs and social media using the said tactics (those) of the nation one of half truths and gawd awful misinformation….. quack ..quack,, arterexes
Ac,
You sound so foolish! The arrogant governor had to back off as the public backlash is great. Who the hell he thinks he is? No CEO who has presided over a decrease in revenue for three straight years and losses totalling 8.2 million dollars would have kept his job! The man is an absolute failure. The IMF has told him to stop financing government by the printing of money and he has not stopped.
This is going to be Barbados’ downfall!
“so the gov has rightfully (so) renege on the threat of not allowing the dirty rag the nation newspaper from being present at news conference etc,,,,,,,,it was a good call ,by the gov,,,,,which hopefully has closed the mouths of the cackling BLP geese who infiltrate the call in programs and social media using the said tactics (those) of the nation one of half truths and gawd awful misinformation….. quack ..quack,, arterexes”
First ac, don’t worry about BLP geese infiltrating the call-in-programs… CBC, Rosemary Alleyne, John Lovell and Maureen Holder have all made sure that “BLP geese” will not infiltrate “Talk ya Talk” on CBC 100.7fm.
Secondly, how come you are justified in whole heartedly supporting the DLP, but those who support the BLP or have a different opinion are characterised as BLP yard-fowls.
Thirdly ac, you come to BU boxing wild without ever bringing any supporting facts to substantiate your emotive, partisan diatribe. For example, you incorrectly stated that Arthur was responsible for the Vat being introduced and your opinions on economic matters are often flawed……. “one of half truths and gawd awful misinformation.”
I’m all for freedom of expression and thorough discussion of relevant issues. However, there is a wide gap between articulation and positive action. As a person who as been a practitioner, I find all this discussion rather tiresome. As Richard Nixon once said: When you realise that you aren’t doing anything you should get off the pot!And speaking of shit pots, many of your contributors are like old worn out toilet seats. They get you in the right position, and keep your ass warm. They are close to fundamental material. However, you wouldn’t use them as a picture frame.
.BTW, when you become tired of your blog, what are you going to do for an encore?
As long as the apologists of political parties are around there is motivation to continue.

@Artaxerxes
That is why the Nation newspaper is called the Nation BLP Newspaper because it is functioning as a public relations arm of the BLP.
so….taxes became one of the sources of revenue in helping to pay off some debt,,, when govt use NIS ,,the blp yardfowls belly ached,,,use of funds from the central bank the blp yardfowls belly ache,,,,,,,,the blp yardfowls call for lay off became a reality ,,,and now they bellyache,,,,,,in the meanwhile the shadow leader of the BLP OSA has crawled out of the closet from whence he has been hiding making his presence snipping at the govenor,,( some what small pickings) one not to questions his motives find it some what [suspicious that at a time when the country is in volatile stage due to restructuring and implementation of measures that would be helpful in stabilizing the economy OSA would take center stage to provoke rather than let the the leader MIA take charge and speak on economic matters affecting the country,,,
@ NationBLPnewspaper
“I deal with facts not the hollow partisan emotion which you are displaying.”
That my friend… is bare shiite. If you were indeed dealing “with facts not the hollow partisan emotion”, you would have been a bit more balanced. For example, you would also have taken issue with:
• The partisan manner in which CBC’s call-in program “Talk ya Talk” is being conducted, whereby supporters of the DLP are given latitude to develop their points, while persons with another view are shouted off the program by the ONLY two moderators on the show;
• That Maureen Holder & John Lovell have relayed to all and sundry that they support the DLP;
• The unprofessional and biased towards the DLP manner in which Maureen Holder & John Lovell moderates the program; and the fact that both are rude and uncouth;
• The way CBC TV8 evening news is being presented…… in favour of the DLP;
• How this present administration is using CBC and the Government Information Service to promote their propaganda;
• That out of the hundreds of lawyers in Barbados…the only lawyers CBC can give to give advice on legal matters are Hal Gollop (who has been seen in the company of the PM and at every DLP “cock fight”), Verla De Peiza, the DLP candidate for Christ Church West, and R. E Guyson Mayers, former Chairman of RDC and one who also expressed an interest in contesting the St. Joseph seat for the DLP;
• The same way you perceive the Nation as being biased towards the BLP… the Advocate can be seen the same way towards the DLP, since MANY of their columnists are pro DLP;
@ NationBLPnewspaper | May 11, 2014 at 7:28 AM |
Nation BLP:
If you full up the Nation with BLP and DLPpolitical hacks, who is going to buying the political filth, not me!! By the way, do not send AC!!
@ NationBLPnewspaper
You guys need to grow up.
Twin Towers
The owner or owners of the newspapers usually lean to a specific political worldview, but that does not suggested in any meaningful way that the employees of that particular newspaper establishment do likewise.
@ Twin Towers | May 11, 2014 at 8:38 AM |
I hope you express the same sentiments about the Advocate.
“To the names NationBLPnewspaper lists one should add a Tennyson Joseph.

Artaxeteres
Why wouldn’t one be convince that the Nation Newspaper supports the BLP? When several years ago the former CID detective and former Nation Newspaper Journalist Wade Gibbons, wrote an article featuring Owen Arthur, that Arthur didn’t take to kindly to. So, Wade Gibbons was booted through the door with a quick dispatch. I am sure David knows what I am talking about because just after his termination, Mr. Gibbons posted his resentment against the chief editor at the Nation Newspaper on BU at the time.

@ Dompey | May 11, 2014 at 9:41 AM |
You people are hypocrites!!!!!

You serious? Which NYT engages writers to put Republicans’ case? NYT is a wholesale partisan Democrat party newspaper whose partisanship has it in deep financial trouble! Even if they deign to put a good word in, it would be buried deep in the last pages!
You are deceiving BU readers!
Twin Towers aka Waiting, the spin continues.
David:
I thought “Exclaimer” was “Waiting” but now he or she is “Twin Towers.” This becoming confusing!!
@Lemuel
BU has been around with both administrations in office and what is common is when the honeymoon fades the sitting administration goes hostile. The DLP is running through true to form.
David:
I hear you.
f..ck pizza what a name,,,,,,pillsbury dough boy u ought to stick to meking pizza or eating pizza,,,,u no economist,,,,,,,,,, just another two faced hypocrite always talking about tax burden and the govt imposing taxes….now the govenor believes a more feasible and fair alternative than vat can do better ,,jerks like u talking ….pup,,,,,,,,oSA not a god ,,he aint have the last or final word on any economy,,,, most of the time ,,trial and error is the decider on how to plan and implement policies more like a lesson learned from past successes and failures nothing in economics is sealed proof…things can be altered or change according to movements or trends,,,,,highs and lows are the normal,,,maybe the govenor is right the vat has run its course and maybe it is time govt look at a better and fairer tax moving forward,,,,,OSA my a,ssss
But David, why do they need to get hostile?
@bad boy
This is not a black or white matter to rush to decision simply to appease the sensibilities of an irate Governor.
@ac
David the press cannot be allowed to act with impunity I think the governor over reacted but power can be abused by the media too
ac,
Has anyone in George Street ever given you the talking points to inform you that the DLP has borrowed more money in six years than the BLP did in its 14 years in office?
@Observer
It is why BU is somewhat ambivalent to what has unfolded.
@ ac
@ Prodigal Son
“I should not be surprised though, my goodness they are running the country just like George Street……every thing falling down”
That’s a good one Prodigal…. you are correct……lol
I am ambivalent myself. to me as i read the comment from the nation today they are asking the governor of the bank for a level of consideration they don’t give. they shoot first and ask questions after, but get upset when another organization does the same. thats how bullies behave.
As an organization, the central bank is still one of the best run entities in bim and remains a centre of excellence. yu know how much damage to staff morale and employer, employee relations has probably been done by that story.
don’t mind david and the blp yardfowls,,they will be quick to chastise the govt for what is blatant untruth by the nation…….don;’t expect much more from them,as far as any issue goes for this govt,l,this govt will be wrong all the time,,so said so done and taken from the hand book of slash and burn by prodigal; and the miller,,who just can seem to understand that the election is over,,the gov,has a responsibility to people; and country unlike the nation whose only responsibility is to sell news by any means necessary,,they ought to apologies ,,instead of printing a self serving retraction to appease,,,
@ac
And for you they are right all the time so what does that make you?
@NationBLPnewspaper
@bad boy
In bim people get that info for themselves and from family and friends.
but if he condemns, disparages, preaches gloom and doom as some seem to want, how does that help, to me he is seek to provide a story, trying to speak to the segment of the market that wants to believe in us something to hold on to.
a lot of our commentators seem caught up in “I told you so,” “I have a more negative story than You.” Thats fine and people have a right to their views and to express them, but its not a strategy for getting us through this.
we at least announced and are implementing an austerity plan that seemed to have stemmed the bleeding of last year at least to date. how to build on this.
we are where we are, i laud those who are spending some time and effort in how to hold ground and even go forward, rather than those who wallow in “I told you so.”
thank god this is not the only source of access for news about the barbados economy..this is for you david

@Artaxerxes
@Artaxerxes

@bad boy | May 11, 2014 at 9:44 PM |
By the way, what has become of him?
ratings agencies and others do their own research but official documents and statements are important and influence key players.
Wait Hants….!!!!
Um is YOU that spreading that rumor ’bout “Bushie know eva shiite”?
Ah beg yuh Man …..cease and desist from that yuh!!!!
Don’t mek Bushie have to hire Ross to sue you for that BMW…..
@Bushie you can’t sue me for what you can’t prove.
There is no way you can prove you don’t know everything.
Any incorrect answer you give to any question could just be a lie. lol

@Prodigal Son
The link belongs to Central Bank they must have moved the document. Will fix it.
@ Artaxerxes | May 12, 2014 at 12:03 PM |
No.
Good Lord, please help Barbados!
David,
I now have the link, let me know if you want it, should they take too long to do so!
Mudaaaa in the market. Those who called for transparency now saying the plan to lay off up to 60 government workers is private?
even though, like Sparrow an Baffy de lil’ Bajan rapis an Bushie, I so hungry but not had a white meat yet
the man presented the facts. he showed the economy fell by 0.4%, tourism down by 1%, unemployment up, that the fiscal numbers were worse than expected. so to me the facts were there and presented for all to see. i fail to see your issue with his presenting the best face on the slew of bad news. maybe yu are the poilitcial one and want him to bash everything to give others the ammunition they want, whatever the consequences.

Prodigal Son | May 12, 2014 at 2:08 PM |

David King:
I’m all for freedom of expression and thorough discussion of relevant issues. However, there is a wide gap between articulation and positive action. As a person who as been a practitioner, I find all this discussion rather tiresome.
