Prime Minister Fruendel Stuart

The eagerly awaited Peter Wickham Cadres poll has been leaked to the media. Based on the report Prime Minister Fruendel Stuart appears to be viewed as less likely to lead the DLP to victory. It is bad enough the DLP government has had to combat managing the economy in an austere environment, to float a damaging poll  at this time is perhaps the final nail in the coffin. One did not need a poll to assess that Prime Minister Stuart does not have the national profile or support at this time. Who can forget Minister David Estwick wearing a red short on the morning of the tragic event.

It is sad that a BLP government which was voted out of office less than five years ago will probably be returned without having to revamp or promise any radical policies to Barbadians. At this stage BU is somewhat nonplus about what the political landscape is likely to be. What is sure is that it will be more of the same. Prime Minister Stuart the best advice BU can give you is to ring the bell. The country cannot afford yet another political cat fight.

A people will get the government it deserves.

  1. If I were a PM and it was decided that I was not wanted, I would what Sir Lloyd did and RING THE BELL, who falls falls, who stands stand.

  2. It doesn’t much matter who leads (or follows) in the two parties.

Neither can repair the damage they and their predecessors have caused.

Barbados needs serious rebuilding and it is the citizens that need to do that.

The sooner we realise that the better for Barbados.

  3. After PM Stuart did not ring the bell in October last year which would have assured him at least a 5-year mandate, now we have these jokers who wait until the eve of an election to throw Stuart overboard. Should they not have done it one year ago? It is called planning. What jackasses.

Since Errol Barrow died the glue that held the DLP together disappeared. For a short time just prior to the last general election they were able to hold it together long enough to fool the public that they were a credible force to lead this country. Then David Thompson died and all hell broke loose but they were able to give the appearance of unity in their ranks, but knowing the DEMS that could not last.

Now here we are at a juncture where it appears that the Opposition is fractured and unlikely to force the DEMS from office, despite the country’s economic problems. But that was too good to be true, naked political ambition and greed by some elements in the DEMS had to level the playing field for both parties. They just could not behave themselves for a little while longer. The only time that a prime minister is vunerable or rather at the mercy of his parliamentary group is at election night when the majority party in the election decides who would lead before going to the GG. This bunch of silly fools have just handed the advantage to the BLP.

These idiots did not realise that they could not constitutionally remove Stuart without his consent and/or co-operation. They would have to go to the House and savage Stuart in a no-confidence motion but they would have to get support from a few BLP members to oust him. People call them slow learners, but I don’t think that they are learners at all.

  8. The other side question to this Cadres poll is who is responsible for leaking it to the press.

PEP, time to make your move, secure a few seats and control the balance of power.

    PM, call elections NOW | December 10, 2011 at 2:55 PM |
PEP, your campaign should be honest and direct: (a) both major parties have been failing to fulfill their promises on key items such as integrity legislation and taking the people for granted; (b) your objective is NOT to control the house, but to hold the balance of power, supporting the minority BLP or DLP that is willing to move ahead with the key outstanding items, with the ability to shift support or force an election if the two main minorities are acting contrary to the interest of Barbados.

  10. @ David
Man you smarter than that. The poll was done since June and barbadostoday printed a story about it, but its findings were downplayed by the pollster. CBC gets a new consultant and a few months later the poll is ‘leaked’. BU should investigate who commissioned the poll.

  11. @enuff

We are on the same page.

Seems like some chicanery maybe at play.

So it is possible that a sub-group within the DLP commissioned the poll, likely the same group that arranged for the ousting of Clyde Mascoll, to support current events. If this is so, they are unlikely to maintain a stable government – no level-headed members to guide them and keep them from the brink – seems like African politics to me. Allowing such a group to rise will likely be our biggest mistake. Our politicians have always done anything, within reason, for power. I sense, however, that this group may go beyond reason. We have a tendency to ignore negative developments until too late – let us seriously monitor this.

  13. ONE term is all that they will get! ONE TERM ONLY! So fellas start packing your bags!

  14. What does Sinckler, Sealy and Wickham have in common? Then you have a subset of Lashley and Sinckler.

A picture seems to be emerging but is it not the right of the parliamentary group to chose their leader?

It would be interesting to know about the Cadres report which was commissioned by Thompson before he died which targeted the performance of ministers in his cabinet.

Why doesn’t someone leak that report too.

    @David

Do you remember a contribution that I made earlier in the year just before the last budget? Do you remember me forecasting several of the aspects that are now being presented to the public? I am asking similar questions to you of the DLP. This is no longer about the BLP although Peter Wickham still seems eager to choose who he thinks should lead the BLP. It is no secret that I have backed Miss Mottley as political leader of the BLP; but for the second time it is Owen Arthur. That said, there is no challenge, question, or doubt about who is the leader of the BEES. The more fundamental point has to be the leadership of Barbados and the obvious calamity that now besets a bunch of ‘wild boys’. This country, going through a tough recession and extremely vulnerable period of recovery requires sound leadership from the political party in government. Hence, rather than pollsters and former advisers to prime ministers seeking to reconstruct the current leadership, one would have thought it more prudent to garnish support that best reflects the national interest. I am sorry, if as reported in the Nation that there are 7 cabinet minsters among a protesting group, PM Stuart must show his backbone and relieve them of their stresses; these persons are obviously unable to cope with the pressures of leading policy in their relevant ministries. If truth be told, the Ministry that is headed by Sinckler, has to be the worse performing ministry since there has been no reduction in the deficit, we have not come close to achieving the goals outlined in any of the recent budgets, there is lesser and lesser accountability and transparency especially with the NIS matter, and lo and behold, the cost of living, inflation, and unemployment are challenging each other to see which one wipes out the quality of life Barbadians once enjoyed.
My grandmother used to say to me, “a bad boy is better than no boy at all.” I am saying, take it as you like, I and many Barbadians would rather have Owen Arthur at the helm than this set of wild boys that have no interest in this country whatsoever beyond narrow ambitions for personal power and wealth. PM Stuart needs to show strength even if he risks it all and put the political noose around the necks of the dissenting dagger-wielders standing at his back (11).

  16. well figure change once again is now 60 million. what currency is anyone guess. it been moved in-between 80-50 many time i sure it change once again before the loan get signed.

  17. @George

If all that is playing out in the press is correct it is probably too late for PM Stuart. He needs to return to the people and let them decide. The country can’t afford this nonsense. We already went over a year without much happening.

  18. Interesting times ahead. I think how this DLP saga evolves will depend largely on the response of the PM. We can assume thus far that he does not intend to go. His comments of late indicate such. Can the parliamentary group present the necessary evidence to influence him to step down gracefully? Time will tell. I am honestly in agreement with David’s sentiment that it is rather late and somewhat dangerous for the DLP to be making such moves this late in the game. To be honest, I am not convinced that there is really anything the DLP can do to prevent a most probable defeat at the polls. If indeed Chris Sinckler is the preferred option to the current PM, does Chris really bring any positives to the table? As finance minister, has his performance earned him any points or kudos from the Barbados public? Those whom are calling for Chris, in my view, do so based on his apparent charisma and down to earth nature, something the current PM lacks. If allowed to lead, will Chris be able to use his so called charisma to improve the state of the economy and stop the juggernaut that is an Owen led BLP? If Owen was not known as a skilled financial manager(let’s face it-the Barbadian public did not vote Owen out because of his management of the economy)I could see the electorate deciding not to give him another chance. However, Owen has that legacy fuelling him and once the global economy continues to stagnate, I think the BLP stakes go up. I know many will wish to highlight the Montley factor. Well my view is that faced with a high probabililty of victory, the BLP will put its house in order. I think the strategies employed by both parties on the campaign trail will factor in greatly in terms of which party is able to record a victory. The next election will be a true test of political strategy, political guile and of course, who has the better prepared corn beef and biscuit.

  23. To Freudel stuart:
You are a man that I like because you understood the need to wait your turn quietly. Do not believe any poll conducted by Peter the spy man Wickham. Wickham does not have your interest or the interest of the stability of this country at heart. Why then would he conduct a poll in four of thirty constituencies and then extrapolate as if this is a national indicator. As my girl Island would say this a bare wotlessness. I know that the BLP shall continue to ignore his promotion of Mia Mottley. But Spy Man do not call embracing a football tournament something of national interest in order to bolster Mia’s leadership potential. Peter Wickham you need to talk about her accomplishments when she was in leadership positions. MIa’s only claim to fame was trying to frighten her subordinates. Where is the national “out pouring” for Mia being hidden. But alas only you Spy Man would see. This poll Peter Wickham is tantamount to you conducting a poll on the efficacy of “bulling” and proclaiming the out come as “bulling” is good for all men. The only people who would believe that are you Peter the Spy Man Wickham and Mia Mottley.

You made a big error and wrote: “The corrupt Barbados Labour Party’s propoganda machine the Nation newspaper is in overdrive this morning.”

If the Prime Minister’s job is being placed under scrutiny by the ones he endorsed into his Cabinet (because that is what it is after his reshuffle), do you not think it is in the national interest to report on it? Is this or are there any other reasons why Barbados Today would report on the matter but the Barbados Advocate is silent? Looks like your dream is turning into a self-crafted nightmare.

To whom is that surprising? This was a “fait accompli” only to be rubber stamped by the fire marshall and his side kick jr the son of Robin.
It should attract support in principle provided the parasitic consultant(s) is not allowed to continue to suck from the trough. His initial mandate to attract private foreign investors is no longer viable. Get rid of the financial leak. NIS funds MUST NOT BE USED to finance any high living sweet talker with no action to back up the piffle.

Since you seem to have an aversion to balancing let me try.

The corrupt Democractic Labour Party’s propoganda machine the Barbados Advocate, does not carry a single story about the DLP parliamentary group or about the NIS investment in Four Seasons, even though it is said to be official as stated by you.

Either they are unaware or prefer to keep their readers blissfully so.

  27. The conclusion to be drawn from the Nation”s expose and the Cadres “poll” may be described aptly by two words..FRAUD and DECEPTION. It really amazes me that a “poll” in 2011 can suggest that Barbadians , given all their innate peculiarities and prejudices and the lessons learnt from past leaders, would emphatically say that they want Chris Sinckler to be their Prime Minister. HE REALLY DOES NOT FIT THE BILL. Even if they are dissatisfied with Mr Stuart , for Cadres and Peter Wickham to suggest that they do, IS FRAUDULENT. Wickham, Hartley Henry and Chris Sinckler must come again. In addition, Sinckler must know that if Mr Stuart survives this very obscene attempt by this group of gangsters to seize power by deception and fraud against the best Barbadian traditions, IT IS THE END OF SINCKLER. Mr Stuart, a keen student of history HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO PUT SINCKLER WHERE HE TRULY BELONGS …ON THE DUMP HEAP, the place to which ALL PLOTTERS are thrown. He must also know that “ambition is made of sterner stuff”. Prime Ministers are put in place by acquiescence, not by open, vulgar treachery and plotting that has been exposed TO ALL BARBADIANS. As it now stands, all Barbados knows about meetings that were supposed to be secret. That is a clear indication of the fact that the very persons who were ambushed and attended these meetings did not care anything about preserving the confidentiality expected. That the confidentiality was breached demonstrates their lack of respect for the convenor of the meetings..SINCKLER, inspired by Hartley Henry and Peter Wickham. The next few days will be very interesting, but one thing is certain ..THIS IS THE END OF SINCKLER .. HE CANNOT EXIST BESIDE STUART and ALL BARBADOS KNOWS THAT. when this certainty takes place, Sinckler and his advisors would then have ample opportunity of showing how much Barbadians respect him as a politician who is being paraded as the automatic choice for the post of Prime Minister of Barbados.

FS needs to heed this advice and send him to the MoH or Education where talkers belong. The Don can go to Foreign Affairs. Jones can be kept where is is or slotted somewhere else.

Get DR. David to take up the MoF& E A; and possibly Paul (if he is interested) or Ince to Agriculture.
He must strike now that the iron is hot and show fair-minded Bajans that he can make worthwhile decisions, even if only to save his skin and get some of the heat off him.

  34. To Miller:
What Peter the Spy Man Wickham has done this time is even worse than one putting a cat to guard a group of mice. You seem to know more about his personal life than I do. Remember what is said was “conditional”. Would you believe the poll by a “thief” telling all and sundry that stealing hurts no one? But as usual you are ready to call me all kinds of things for stating my opinion. By the way if this thing about the group of eleven is true then PM Stuart does not need to be advised for once he needs to act decisively, otherwise these people shall plague his leadership until elections. By their actions we shall now have elections late 2012. Stuart shall punish them for this arrogance and play the Sandy card like in 1994.

  39. To David:
Are you saying that the Nation report is not true, then the Nation would have to pay out a hefty sum because of this. As I understand it the DLP house members met each Monday; why couldn’t this group say something then. Then again what could they say to the PM to cause him to resign. They voted for him just the other day. The BLP group did the same thing to remove Mia, but the DLP made a fuss of it. But what are they doing to the PM now; now that we need political stability.

I am in ttal agreement. The Office of the Prime Minister of Barbados is not to be discredited either by the holders of that position or by those who want to change the personnel holding the office. We are a beacon to most countries around the world, and I believe that Mr. Arthur was also 100 % correct in labelling this cadre of DEMS a bunch of ‘wild boys’; their behaviours actually suggest just that.

A political history lesson tells me that Gordon Brown sat in a similar position to Sinckler under Blair. What was the outcome? Brown became PM but was ousted first chance since the dissent from within never ended.

  42. But how Sinckler and John Boyce et al could absolve themselves from the failures of the government and party? Sinckler has had three portfolios–all poorly managed–and John Boyce still trying to finish a few roundabouts and a road widening after 4 years. Stupse, they are no better than Stuart.
