On the 29 th of July 2022 on the floor of the Senate Minister of Tourism Lisa Cummins during wind up on Resolution: Special Loans Act, Cap. 105 – Scotland District Road Rehabilitation made a surprising revelation. At about 2hrs. 12 mins into the video Cummins explained that a loan agreement with China in 2017 included a condition which exposed Barbados sovereign assets to China in the event there was a default by the government of the day.

A few days later former Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy – who was in office during 2017 – issued a robust denial to what Cummins stated. Quoting Sealy’s rebuttal:-

There is nothing in the agreement about any airport or seaport being [claimed] in the case of default.

I do not know where that young lady got her information. I do not know if she is being misguided . . . [but it is] absolute total rubbish,” he said.

The former minister of tourism added that the agreement was regarding the Sam Lord’s Castle Hotel Project. He said the arrangement with COMPLANT (the China National Complete Plant Import Export Corporation) was for the project to be a discreet one which could stand on its own.

The Government (then) was determined not to have a repeat of the HRL (Hotels & Resorts Limited)/Gems of Barbados fiasco so there was an exit plan where as soon as we completed the job, the private sector would come in and do what they had to do, which is exactly what this Government is doing,

Norris the johnnie come lately i doubt you live bout here but had not for the debt restructuring in 2018 and borrowing from places like the IMF npne of us might not be here.Covid set back most counttries and it is still with us.Therefore with lityle tourist coming in during that period where would the money have come from to sustain social services especially running the hospital, old people,s pensions and medications, running of buses and garbage trucks etc.As well as keeping businesses open so that people could still earn a living to feed their families .All of these things were done after the mess the dems left in 2018 and the challenges this government faced with cpvid, the hurricsne, the st vincent volcano eruption, the freak storm etc.In other words problems after problems and we still standing.Trll us einsyein if we dif not borrow where the hell would we be today? My advice to you if you don, t live bout here spend some time here to vet a dose of reality not second hand information.I gone.

  22. @Donna,
First let me state that you have been making some sensible and excellent statements.
As I mentioned one name I will mention another. “The A guy” is usually on point and accurate.

How do you measure a track record? The ridiculous and pointless 30-0 has limited the contribution that others outside of Mama Mia and her 40 thieves (that includes the army of consultants) can provide.

Ronnie O, with this limitations has been doing an excellent job. in highl;ighting possible missteps or different directions that can be taken. We all have to start somewhere and we have to play the cards that we are dealt. Ronnie O is taking the his hand and making it a winner.

All politicians, incl;uding the great Mi and her 30 accomplices had to start somewhere. Don’t confuse hot air with a track record.

    Hot air and pappyshow
That’s not the way to go
Get it right with Ronnie O

    no they don’t

    yes they do.

Maloney, defendants in vaccine scam suit reach agreement
    By Maria Bradshaw mariabradshaw@nationnews.com

Weeks ahead of an October trial, Barbadian businessman Mark Maloney entered into an agreement with two of the defendants involved in the US$10 million COVID-19 vaccine scam lawsuit not to pursue punitive damages against them.
The agreement was reached with the Stein defendants, Charlie Z. Stein and Davidovich Stein Law Group, the attorneys who were the escrow agent during the failed transaction involving the delivery of one million COVID-19 vaccines to Barbados and St Lucia.
As a result, the October 3 trial date has been vacated with a new date to be determined. The case is being heard in the United States District Court Central District California.
Maloney is the principal owner of Radical Investments Ltd (RIL), the company which commissioned a consignment of vaccines two years ago at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and which is now suing six defendants after losing
half of the US$10 million and never receiving the vaccines.
The court was informed last month that RIL had withdrawn its claims for punitive damages against the Stein defendants.
The submission noted: “Accordingly, the Stein Defendants and RIL, by and through their attorneys of record, agree and stipulate as follows: RIL hereby withdraws its claims for punitive damages as to the Stein defendants in this action. RIL furthermore agrees that it will not pursue punitive damages from the Stein defendants in this action, by any legal theory whatsoever. Said agreement applies to the FAC, (First Amended Complaint), the new SAC, (Second Amended Complaint) in the event that the Court grants RIL leave to file the SAC, and any other amended pleading which RIL may file in this action.
“To the extent that the FAC, the SAC, or any other amended pleading filed by RIL in this action seeks punitive damages from the Stein defendants, said claims for punitive damages are deemed stricken. Upon the Court entering the proposed order filed with this stipulation, the Stein defendants’ motion to bifurcate punitive damages claims shall be
    moot.”
Last week the court confirmed the agreement reached, noting: “The Court, having reviewed the stipulation of plaintiff Radical Investments Ltd. (“RIL”) and defendants Charles Z. Stein and Davidovich Stein Law Group, LLP (hereinafter, collectively, “the Stein Defendants”) and for good cause set forth therein, finds and orders as follows: Based on the agreement of RIL and the Stein Defendants, RIL has withdrawn its claims for punitive damages as to the Stein Defendants in this action. RIL shall not pursue punitive damages from the Stein Defendants in this action, by any legal theory whatsoever. Said prohibition applies to the FAC, the new SAC, in the event that the Court grants RIL leave to file the SAC, or any other amended pleading which RIL may file in this action.
“To the extent that the FAC, the SAC, or any other amended pleading filed by RIL in this action seeks punitive damages from the Stein Defendants, said claims for punitive damages are deemed stricken.

“The Stein Defendants’ motion to bifurcate punitive damages claims is moot and taken offcalendar. The Stein Defendants and RIL shall not seek recovery of attorneys’ fees, if any, from each other regarding the motion to bifurcate punitive damages claims.”
This agreement follows an earlier motion brought by the Stein defendants to bifurcate settlement and release in which they submitted that they had entered into a settlement agreement and mutual release with RIL following the failed transaction, where they returned the remaining funds of just over five million dollars to the company and RIL released them “from any and all claims and causes of action against them related to the disbursements from the bank account”.
Meanwhile, the court has also issued an order that defendant Alex Moore
and his company, Good Vibrations Ltd, would have to pay attorney fees to RIL’s attorneys in the sum of US$11 174, a reduction of the US$13 967 demanded by the attorneys. This after the court granted RIL motions to compel but no response was forthcoming from Moore and Good Vibrations.
Alex Moore and GVB were engaged by RIL to source the vaccines.
The court stated: “In its August 25, 2022 order the Court granted Plaintiff’s motions to compel against Defendants Alex Lee Moore and Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC. The Court also ruled that Plaintiff was entitled to payment of its reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred in connection with the successful motions to compel. Plaintiff subsequently filed declarations of counsel setting out the amount of attorneys’ fees that it had incurred in connection with the motions to compel.
    “Defendants Alex Lee
Moore and Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC were given the opportunity to oppose the requested amount of attorneys’ fees — with any such opposition to be filed on or before September 14, 2022. That due date has passed, and no opposition has been filed by Defendants… As a result, the Court rules that the total attorneys’ fees to be awarded to Plaintiff shall be reduced by 20% for a revised total of $11 174 in reasonable attorneys’ fees. The Court further rules that this amount shall be divided 50/50 between the two Defendants, since separate motions were successfully brought against each Defendant. Accordingly …Defendant Alex Lee Moore is ordered to pay Plaintiff the amount of $5 587, and Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC is ordered to pay Plaintiff the amount of $5 587…” The court will now determine if RIL will be allowed to file a second amended complaint.

  31. TheO

I make sensible comments because my only intention is to be sensible.

My beloved son would tell you that if he wants me to back him up, he has to make sure that he is right.

I have always told him that I will not spend my money on lawyers if he is wrong but will visit him faithfully, bearing gifts whenever the prison doors are open to me.

So backing politicians in foolishness is not my bag. But I live in the real world, not some fantasy land where all our wishes are easily granted.

I live in a world where politicians are mere mortals who will sometimes get it right and often get it wrong. I live in a world of competing interests and forces, where humans are flawed and fallible and susceptible to greed and cravings for power and therefore they need to be monitorered, challenged and held to account.

But I do not believe that there is or was any plot by our governments so far to keep black people in their slave positions.

The Barbados Police Service has launched an investigation into two carjacking incidents – one successful – which occurred on Mason Hall Street, The City, on Saturday night.

One man was able to escape, but a man and a woman had their vehicle stolen by a man carrying a Glock with a laser.

News of the incident made the rounds via Whatsapp voice notes, with the man recounting what occurred to him.

In one note, the speaker said when he drove through the area on Saturday night just after 10, a man pointed a laser with a Glock at him, but he was able to escape by accelerating and crouching. Barbados never had integrity, ethics, moral, scruples or honesty….it was all a criminal act, from a 100 year old crime scene that is only now being seen for what it really is……it was all a DELUSION….a WELL PLANNED ILLUSION that can no longer hide or sustain itself….the masking can no longer work, the CENTER CANNOT HOLD….

This was so well written, i had to share.

“Barbados is not what it used to be.
Ethics, morals, scruples, honesty and altruism no longer exist in our leaders and our institutions.
Friends and family are given jobs and honours they do not deserve, are not qualified for and the taxpayer has to foot the bill.

You ask why would an entity like the (Un)Fair Trading Commission side with the Barbados Light & Power and allow them a rate hike. It is because the big players all have a finger in the pie. The rate hike benefits them all the way to the bank.

Why would government help refurbish a private hospital? Look and see who has shares in Bayview.
Why would a government even entertain the acquisition of private property to hand it over to a private developer when such deed is unconstitutional? Have you ever heard of a “bagman” or “frontman”? Look no further. It is a partnership. When he benefits, she benefits.

How can a member of the judiciary aid and abet an injustice, be under investigation and still get the nod? Selling properties twice, making documents and causing others to disappear. You can smell the corruption.

Those IDs were not supposed to be mandatory remember?
Yet unless you have one you cannot make transactions. Any object that has an RFID chip is traceable. Any time you have to show it when you go somewhere they know where you went, what time you went, where you frequent and what you purchase. A passport is ID internationally under the United Nations guidelines. Keep your ID.

Masks are optional they say….but our children are being compromised at school for almost 6 hours. Are our children now plants that they should be breathing carbon dioxide? What the body wants to get rid of should never be taken back in.

A Jamaican friend just told me that the reason Jamaica had the lowest jab-rate in the English speaking Caribbean and the reason they will not accept the Digital ID is because Jamaicans learned a long time ago not to trust their government. He then went on to say that Barbadians are a trusting people which is why we were chosen to be the ones to test initiatives on.
I felt hurt but realised it was true.
There is an easy solution if we do not want to be taken advantage of.
DO NOT COMPLY. . .SPEAK OUT.
    EDUCATE OTHERS…STAND FIRM
