The following Auditor General’s report which probed 150 steel houses imported from China makes for the usual reading. It confirms an insensitivity to spending taxpayer’s funds.

You may recall the several hundred thousand dollars were frittered away on a tourism campaign which eventually binned by Prime Minister Mottley. Minister Lisa Cummins who was in charge of the tourism ministry at the time, strongly defended the Little Island, Big Island campaign was rewarded with a transfer to another ministry. In the case of the steel frames houses that were imported hot and sweated from China, Minister Duguid was transferred AND promoted. Some of us take exception to rewarding non performance and incompetence at taxpayer expense.

It was projected that the Project would have resulted in one
hundred and fifty (150) families/persons, affected by Hurricane
Elsa, receiving housing solutions as a result of the execution of
the Project by 31 s’ December 2021. Over the course of the Project,
the number of families/persons to receive housing units has
decreased, and at October 2023, only twenty-three (23) of these
housing units were slated to be assigned to those whose houses were destroyed…

Is it about maintaining a barebones backbench to suppress any uprising. All about politics.

  2. Politics is a game that people play. It is the art of words that mean sweet fuck all.
eg. Check out USA UK and Israel talking bollocks during continuous racial wars.

  3. Suppress what? Thorne bolted. Now you have 2 D’s (Lashley and Thorne) defending a B (Rowe) in the Courts.
TP and EH got sweet ambassador roles. The Speaker has his. MC is back in the fray. Plenty Senators have Minister hats. PP is Minister within Ministry (Housing lol), CF and DrB basically stepped back, who’s left to bolt? Dr Springer, Toni Moore and Gibbs.

    This was June last year.

“He [Min Sutherland] said yesterday the agreement with East-West Solutions (Barbados) Inc. for steel-framed houses is on course to be fulfilled by the end of this financial year [March 2024] This completion date overshoots the initial expected construction timeframe by close to three years.”

Are we to honestly believe anybody has a clue to what was actually going on.

Confused. This is only about $30M over, and potentially what?, another $30 by the time all the steel framed houses under this contract are erected.
This is peanuts. Especially when you consider all the local contractors who have mastered the art of erecting (I mean steel frame homes) and getting wuk. Not to mention all the Bajans who get new homes.
CBL blew $124M and barely a peep. White Oak got many million in success fees and barely a peep.
    HOPE is another eff up.
But we all know this WILL happen. So either get in on the gravy train and pick a few peppers or hush.

  6. These houses schemes are not about housing people. These are cleverly disguised money transfers/scams

  7. cleverly…!!!???

  8. David,

Why would Dwight Sutherland be disappointed? Didn’t everything work out as intended?

  9. Potential ?

  11. Are the Chinese resting a finger on the political scale in Barbados?

    Don’t just swallow.

  12. @ The OG,

Two things are certain. Barbados governments will continue to borrow and construct multi million dollar projects.

  13. how did it get there ?

Without a variance, the max lot coverage in Toronto is 40%. Though getting up to 50% is usually ‘rubber stamped’.

  16. Chinese STEEL houses.

    HOPE housing project.

  17. ” Adaptability and Modification: Light gauge steel can shape itself to any form and is easily clad and insulated with a wide range of materials. Modifications can be made effortlessly throughout its lifespan.

Non-Combustible and Durable: Light gauge steel structures are non-combustible, meeting code requirements for specific structures. They do not rot, shrink, warp, or decompose, providing durability and resilience against termite attacks. “
