The FBI is investigating the death of George Floyd, black man who was pinned on the neck by a police officer and later died in custody. Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison joins The Beat with Ari Melber’s breaking coverage on the latest from the FBI and the protests. While the officers involved have yet to be charged, Ellison argues a “quick arrest” might “make people feel better about justice” it is “important” for investigators to “take the time to make sure that these charges, if they are brought forward, stick.

    George Floyds record has nothing to do with the incident at hand. He was not resisting arrest, unarmed. Further, if you are intimating that he deserved it, then no, even if there was any criminal matter to be referred, any sentence, any execution of sentence, is for judge and jury, not a group of policemen acting outside of their allowed responsibility.

    What you are propagating would have horrendous impact on any civilised and democratic country.

    However, not surprising as your great hero is himself putting soldiers on the streets to fight unarmed civilians in his own country. A despot if there ever was one.

    Caricom to respond to Floyd’s killing
    WITH PROTESTS and racial tension heightening in the United States (US) over the death of an unarmed black man George Floyd at the hands of police, CARICOM could be adding its name to the list of countries and territories which have officially responded to the systemic racial injustice there.
    Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, told the DAILY NATION the response had already been drafted and was only awaiting the signatures of the member states.
    He said that as a region which shared ethnic and historic commonalities with the still oppressed minority black community in the US, the development had caused CARICOM to stand up and take notice.
    “There is a draft statement that is now being looked at by all of the member states, so that one unified statement can go out. That work is currently being done. I am hopeful that sometime [today] we will have the agreed
    text of that statement. Suffice to say that the people of the CARICOM and the governments as well, are very concerned about the situation in the US as the Caribbean Community is fundamentally an African, Asian region. The African component of our population made the same journey in the same ship as our African-American brothers and sisters,” Comissiong said.
    He added that since much of the Caribbean diaspora was located in the US, silence was not an option at time when so many sons and daughters of the region were potentially at risk.

    “People from the Caribbean have long been migrating to the US of America. So, we have just as many Barbadians or people of Barbadian ancestry living in the US as we have in Barbados itself. We are very much invested in all that happens to our people.”
    The death of Floyd sparked outrage across the world after an eightminute
    video, showing a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on his neck while three others stood watch in Minnesota, went viral. Several celebrities, including Barbados’ Rihanna and former US president Barack Obama, have strongly condemned the killing. In 2018, the Caribbean joined St Lucia in mourning after one its citizens, Botham Jean, was killed in his own home by an off-duty police officer in Texas.
    Yesterday, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison upgraded the charge against Chauvin to seconddegree murder and also charged the other three officers involved in the incident, who have all been fired.

    Africa had a response and protests ready in no time at all….Caricom is not impressing anyone with their slow ass dumb selves….they were waiting to see which way the wind blew and if cousin Boris had not come out, we would have had no response at all, they have NEVER responded before to any racist killings in US by cops, not Breona, not Amaud and those were just LAST MONTH…they think they are saving face now, but every one knows these sell negros for what they are…no good, just like the racists they promote and elevate at the expense of and in front the Black population….they can go to hell…no one wants their response now…..that racism and apartheid they all promote in Barbados will be dismantled just like them..

    I am going to be most unpopular for what I am going add: Six months from now, this will be history and things will be back to normal. That is, until some incident happens again and the basis for protest will be over taken as usual by rioting and the burning down of small black businesses by other blacks . This seems to be normal operating procedures in such incidents ,similar to how the Islamists react to any supposed affront to Islam.

    we always knew that is the main reason the colonial demons were able to prevail for centuries, too many of the African descended were successfully SEVERED from the spiritual powers that would have disallowed all of this….but now those with such powers OUTNUMBER THE POWERLESS.

    …it’s particularly bad with those in Barbados, most of the slaves who were deemed trouble makers when fighting for their freedom and removed from the island escaped that diminishing of self confidence, thankfully, but those who remained…the good slaves, the best slaves and wicked Billie the Goat boasted, were spiritually DESTROYED…you will never regain those powers.     I have a problem with the 2nd degree murder charge for the racist killer, it states an unintentional murder, giving prosecutors too much wiggle room, because, no it was not, the man was already dead and he continued to press on his carotid artery, it does not get any more intentional than that…but he will have to deal with the consequences of that bullshit charge…when it blows up in his face.

    Six months on is Christmas but in five months there are elections in US… and for the next few months various local primaries or others elections processes will be completed towards that main Nov event.

    It is impractical – regardless of outcome – to conceive that in six months these protests will be simply forgotten news.

    That just makes little practical sense.

    And re ur 2nd degree murder issue… YES… I agree.

    But maybe there is something they know we don’t.

    On its face this fits closer to 3rd degree but these things are all about the sensational… the lawyer for the Flloyd family was calling for 1st degree charges….
    How can this cop be convicted on that charge is difficult to understand but again maybe evidence they know of supports such a charge.

    After global uprisings about George Floyd, an Asian fish shop owner in Harlesden, North West London, yesterday called a black customer a nigger and ran after him with a knife. The man had questioned the service.
    Apart from the fact that it confirms everything we say about Asian racism, we cannot allow a business to operate in the heart of the black community when the owner has such contempt for black people.

    Was Mr Floyd carrying a gun and attempting an armed robbery; was he aggressively resisting arrest and died by an inadvertent act from the cop restraining him?

    A few days ago the Blogmaster was apoplectic with outrage (it seemed) when YOUR past history was noted on BU… Others exploded in rage to defend you… ALTHOUGH the historical record VALIDLY placed your behaviour in perfect context and had everything to do with the debate at hand.

    To your credit u were nonplussed by it all…

    So no wonder you believe it’s OK to pull up this historical record… However, this is shameful as it has NOTHING to do with the cop’s depraved, reckless killing of an UNARMED man, restrained with his hands BEHIND his back and lying HELPLESSLY prone gasping for breath on the ground.

    @DavidBU it was a passing statement that i wish he didn’t say in the “heated climate” that this case has cause worldwide. He basically meant that it was still up to a jury to uphold the charges.which is true for ANY criminal trial….but a jury not returning a guilty verdict in this case, something would be SERIOUSLY wrong with those jurists. They have cause of death and widely circulating video that is basically irrefutable. Ben Crump also said he saw body cam video in which Chavin was asked by one of the officers to check for a pulse but he refused. That, if true that can support a 1st degree murder charge, or just further evidence to support the 2nd degree murder charge which is the easier and safer charge to get Chauvin “locked up”

We shout loud for change but don’t see it fit to change ourselves. Seek to change the aggressive and loud behaviors of our sisters and brothers. Try to become decent citizens for our selves, neighbors and country. Stop being lazy and clean up your environs. See that the drug trade is nothing more than a keep down as opposed to an uplift. See the effect and threat the LGBTQ agenda has on our black men. Black men seek to be good fathers and husbands and raise our children to become decent citizens.     Whose blood is more or less precious has little to do with anything and never entered my commentary. It has nothing to do with the “spilling of blood”. What it has to do with is the fact that the Floyd incident took place within the continental United States and was an instance of an American police officer killing (heinously so) an American citizen. The war in Iraq on the other hand had to do as you well know with the United States invading Iraq etc etc, and because of the strategic and economic importance of the region, that war held far more significant geopolitical implications. So when previously you sought to draw a parallel between the two, I had to correct what was plainly erroneous.

    I do not recall referring to diplomatic notes as unofficial correspondences (I don’t recall it as I did not actually say that). When I spoke to unofficial condemnation, I was referring to something as simple as having a chat with the Ambassador, and whether that happened previously neither you nor I would know.

    I also cannot recall bearing allegiance to any political party. My dear lady, you ought not to impute motive or attribute association to others, lest they begin to think you made of the same ilk of persons such as Millsy or WARU

    The broader issue that persons were irrationally concerned with was condemnation by CARICOM, which as has been indicated, is soon forthcoming. A bloc of small states with strong strategic ties to the United States, particularly some member states, carefully weighed the imperatives, and is formulating an appropriate response. Festina lente, I always say. Why must CARICOM make a knee-jerk reaction? Strategic imperatives have to be carefully weighed. Government is not a private concern but a public trust and the options open to you or I or organisations are not the same as those available to governments constrained by factors beyond their control. Go find some other non-issue to play up!
