Several countries including the USA and and Canada have recently supported the claim of Juan Guaido as the president of Venezuela. We already know who Russia backs, do we have another Syria in the making only this time within the Caribbean region?
CARACAS, Venezuela — A group of soldiers turned against the government and declared allegiance to the opposition. Foreign officials say the government could soon run out of money to meet bare-bones needs. And countries across the region have called the president an illegitimate dictator.
Conditions in Venezuela have deteriorated to a point where the opposition — gutted by the jailing and exiling of many of its leaders and discredited after several failed efforts to oust President Nicolás Maduro — is seeing an opportunity. Leading them is a virtually unheard-of 35-year-old, Juan Guaidó.
His debut as opposition leader and head of the National Assembly this month has captured the attention of those within the country and outside of it — mainly for his striking claim that Mr. Maduro is not a legitimate ruler and his willingness to take charge of a transitional government.
“The relationship between Venezuela and its state today is one of terror,” Mr. Guaidó said in an interview. “When this happens, the voices and hopes of the world, their messages, are the encouragement for the daily struggle to resist — to dream of democracy, and for a better country.”

Meanwhile at Davos in Switzerland they are wondering how to fix capitalism. People, I keep telling you that too far east is west. Capitalism only values capital. It always devalues labour upon whose back capital realizes its profit. The way to fix it is simply to pay a fair and living wage. Nobody should work hard all day and not be able to live comfortably. If the super rich entrepreneurs do not want to pay high taxes all they need to do is pay decent salaries. Then the workers would not need government programmes.
Communism is no good. It seeks to control the masses, depriving them of their freedom and individuality and ALWAYS an elite still forms among the leaders. Unbridled capitalism does not work. It is exploitative. It creates a super rich class that controls the system and keeps the masses ALWAYS beneath them. The best place is always in the middle. EXTREME IDEOLOGIES AND POSITIONS ARE THE PROBLEM!
By the way – I have never seen a self-made man. The fallacy is that these entrepreneurs have made their money all by themselves. No they didn’t. They had help at some point. From somebody.

Kyffin is a true self made man. From the days when he was a bicycle riding floor walker in Simpson’s Supermarket in Worthing, to his little gas station near The Globe, he flew to Japan and made contact with Mr Suzuki who took a shine to him, and the rest is history. No one can tell me that any Barbadian, black or white has contributed more to the Barbados economy than him.

I bought a new car from Simpson Motors many years ago. A new car is bought with the understanding that parts will be available when needed. Simpson Motors hardly ever had the parts. It usually took about six weeks for the part to arrive. I was always told that they could bring it in from Trinidad or something by FedX but it always ended up costing more than twice as much. I would never buy a car from them again.
Poor service. I did not get what I paid for, Kyffin Simpson shite!

In 2018, Population Pyramid.net estimated Barbados’ population to be 286,431, while country meters.info’s estimate is 287,626.
World Population Review’s website presents information which suggests Barbados’ population in 2019 (24 days into the new year) is 286,853.
WPR also stated that, in 2019, our population is ESTIMATED at 287,010, an increase from the 277,800 population at the 2010 census……..and Populationof.net’s estimate for 2019 is 287,065 and they expect the population to grow by 1,000 and reach 288,000 by 2020.
As it relates to WPR…..which is it…….286,431….or……287,010?
What methods did these agencies used to compile those stats……….. and are they ACCURATE……. especially if we take into consideration the LAST population census was conducted in 2010 and one is to be conducted next year?
It’s clear these stats are estimates.
In other words, we would not know the population count until a census is conducted.
Guh so with that nonsense, Kyffin had nuff nuff nuff nuff help, Barrow and Richie backed that man.
Black men made that man.
Where WARU is, set him straight Mistress of Information
Did he have the assets to support the loan (RBC I think) to buy Shell’s operations. Definitely not from selling a bunch a shitey Suzuki’s.
Sorry, Kyffin is not that hero you speak of, he is a shining example of White privilege.

@WARU, Crazy & Unstable, Hogging the Blog January 24, 2019 2:20 PM “as for the 231 you posted, ya better upgrade that ya hear…many, many thousands of people on the island identify as other and not no 231.
The number self identifying as “other” could NOT have risen from 231 to your 20,000 in 9 years time.
In the Barbados census, a census taker shows up at the door, and speaks to the people who live there. People are asked how they identify. In 2010, 231 people siad to the census takers “other”
You are entitled to your own opinion.
You are NOT entitled to your own facts.
Dear Artax: Please chill. I understand that a population can never be static, since people are born everyday, and people die everyday, but unless there is war, or an epidemic one can extrapolate from the most recent scientific census which was taken in 2010.

Have you noticed CARICOM has finally made a statement about Venezuela and most of it is waffle – this after a seven-hour video conference. The big question remains: does CARICOM recognise the Maduro presidency? If so, does it condemn the US, Canada, the UK and others for recognising Guiado?
Meanwhile, the nonsense about interfering with the internal affairs of sovereign states, remember our ambassador’s intervention in the Antiguan and Grenadian consultations on the CCJ?

The following Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) – Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago; Foreign Ministers of Grenada and Suriname;, meeting by video-conference on 24 January 2019, issued the following statement.
“Heads of Government are following closely the current unsatisfactory situation in Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, a neighbouring Caribbean country. They expressed grave concern about the plight of the people of Venezuela and the increasing volatility of the situation brought about by recent developments which could lead to further violence, confrontation, breakdown of law and order and greater suffering for the people of the country.
Heads of Government reaffirmed their guiding principles of non-interference and non-intervention in the affairs of states, respect for sovereignty, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for human rights and democracy.
Heads of Government reiterated that the long-standing political crisis, which has been exacerbated by recent events, can only be resolved peacefully through meaningful dialogue and diplomacy.
In this regard, Heads of Government offered their good offices to facilitate dialogue among all parties to resolve the deepening crisis.
Reaffirming their commitment to the tenets of Article 2 (4) of the United Nations Charter which calls for Members States to refrain from the threat or the use of force and Article 21 of the Charter of the Organization of American States which refers to territorial inviolability, the Heads of Government emphasized the importance of the Caribbean remaining a Zone of Peace.
Heads of Government called on external forces to refrain from doing anything to destabilize the situation and underscored the need to step back from the brink and called on all actors, internal and external, to avoid actions which would escalate an already explosive situation to the detriment of the people of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and which could have far-reaching negative consequences for the wider region.
Heads of Government agreed that the Chairman of Conference, Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis would seek an urgent meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General to request the U.N’s assistance in resolving the issue.”(Quote)

Connecting some dots to paint a more realistic picture:
America’s Short-Lived Oil Resurgence – Analysis
By Deepak Gopinath*
Celebration of America’s reemergence as an oil superpower riding on shale oil production may be cut short.
Last year may well have been the high-water mark of US preeminence. Burgeoning shale oil production helped transform the United States into a net exporter of oil and fuels in November and pushed crude output to a record of almost 12 million barrels per day – more than Saudi Arabia or Russia – positioning it firmly on the path of energy independence. America’s newfound status as major oil producer and exporter translated into geopolitical influence, giving President Donald Trump a handy club to wield when pressuring OPEC and Russia to lower oil prices or more broadly pursuing US strategic interests.
New estimates suggest this happy scenario may soon reach an end. Questions about sustainability have long dogged US shale oil’s remarkable rise, given the rapid rate at which shale oil deposits decline and leaving aside the environmental costs of fracking and increased oil production. The wells typically produce large volumes initially before quickly tapering off. The short lifespans, recognized since 2013, force producers constantly to drill more wells – and raise money to maintain and increase production.
Coincidence? Venezuela Green Lights Russia to Mine Gold, Days Later US Attempts Overthrow
By Matt Agorist
And, no, socialism alone did not create the horrific plight currently faced by the Venezuelan people. Decades of sanctions and meddling have proven to be unbelievably effective at hurling their economy into a whirlwind of chaos, collapsing their currency, and cutting them off from the rest of the world—literally starving them to death.
Make no mistake, this has likely long been the plan. As George Galloway, former 30 year member of the British Parliament noted, “before they drop the bombs, they drop the narrative, of course. And the disinformation bombardment in Venezuela has been one of the longest bombing runs in history. Massive sums of US money have been spent on media distortion, subversion, sabotage, military coups, and threats of invasion throughout the Chavez-Maduro era.”
For those who may be unaware, the proven oil reserves in Venezuela are known to be the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels. In December, Caracas and Moscow signed a $5 billion investment deal to raise Venezuela’s oil production by one million barrels per day. This move was done to counter the effects of US sanctions which have been crippling the country and raised many neocon eyebrows.
What’s more, aside from their proven oil deposits, Venezuela is also known for its extremely rich gold deposits. Also in December, Caracas gave the green light to Russia to begin mining gold inside their country.
“As for Russia’s participation in gold-mining or other mining projects, Venezuela has made a wide range of interesting proposals that are currently under consideration by interested Russian operators,” the ambassador said.
Because of their rich deposits and need to subvert US sanctions and a weaponized US dollar, Venezuela has become the 25th largest holder of gold in the world making them a direct threat to the global banking system.
To think that the US interests in Venezuela are purely humanitarian is not only asinine but it blindly ignores decades of US interventionism highlighting the contrary—especially considering what happened in Libya.
Isn’t Mia’s mother Venezuelan…according to Comissiong the people are not suffering under Maduro the dictator so I take it based on what he is saying, all is well with his and Mia’s shared family in Venezuela….but not with everyone else.
Do any of them understand where this is going and what it means, her cousin spent at least the last 2 years misleading Caribbean people about the true conditions of Venezuelans….then she ups and puts him as Caricom Ambassador where he promptly shared more misinformation about the Venezuela situation…..that is nothing to take lightly.

Your post reminded me of this story Where the mice are the Heads of Government and the cat is the USA… ——
Once upon a time, there lived many mice in a grocer’s shop. There in the shop, they ate delicious wheat and rice, pulses and nuts, bread and butter and biscuits. They grew fat day by day.
One day, the grocer thought about the heavy losses that he had to suffer because of the menace of the mice. This angered him so much, that the next day, he brought a big fat cat to his shop.
The big fat cat began to catch and kill the fat mice everyday The mice became worried. They called a meeting to discuss the problem.
“Let’s get rid of this cruel fat cat,” the leader of the mice said.
“But how?” the other mice asked.
All of them began to think. Then one mouse said, “We should tie a bell round the neck of the fat cat. So, whenever she would move towards us, the bell would ring and we will run into our holes immediately.”
All the mice became very happy to hear this. They began dancing with joy. But their joy was short-lived. An old and experienced mouse interrupted their merry-making and shouted, “Fools, stop it and tell me, who’ll bell the cat?” —-
At least we have a better ending:
The mice agreed that they would seek an urgent meeting with the barnyard mice to request their assistance in resolving the issue.

Are you referring to PetroCaribe
I remember in 2005, with the exception of Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago, 13 other CARICOM member states signed the PertoCaribe Agreement.
In those days, David Commisiong, David Denny and Hamilton Lashley were at the forefront asking government to sign the PCA.
Trinidad’s opposition to the PCA was perhaps based on the fact that their monopoly of supplying CARICOM member states with oil would have been broken……. and coupled with amending the Common External Tariff to allow the region to access the benefits of PCA, would have been disadvantageous to T&T’s Petrotrin.
After having the option of benefiting from buying Venezuelan oil at market value, paying upfront for a portion and the remainder to be paid through a 25 year financing agreement on 1% interest……
……..do you believe CARICOM member states that signed the PCA will share a collective consensus on Venezuela?

America’s Oil And Gas Reserves Double With Massive New Permian Discovery
Ariel Cohen Contributor
America’s energy security just got a lot more secure. On November 28 The United States Geological Survey (USGS) published an assessment of continuous (unconventional or ‘tight’) resources in a part of the prolific Permian oil and gas basin that straddles Western Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.
The USGS estimates that over 46 billion barrels of oil, 280 trillion cubic feet of gas, and 20 billion barrels of natural gas liquids are trapped in these low-permeability shale formations. To better understand just how staggering these numbers are, think about this: at the end of 2017, total U.S. proven reserves of crude oil hovered around 40 billion barrels. For natural gas, figures stood around 465 trillion cubic feet (tcf). The new upward revision of Permian resources represents a more than 100% and 65% increase in U.S. oil and gas reserves, respectively, if they can be extracted economically…
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced that it has discovered the biggest deposit of untapped oil in the United States, located in the Wolfcamp shale formation in the Midland Basin portion of Texas’ Permian Basin.
“The fact that this is the largest assessment of continuous oil we have ever done just goes to show that, even in areas that have produced billions of barrels of oil, there is still the potential to find billions more,” said Walter Guidroz, program coordinator for the USGS Energy Resources Program.
U.S. Set To Pump More Oil Than Russia And Saudis Combined
By Rystad Energy – Jan 24, 2019, 11:00 AM CST
In a major shift, the United States is set to produce more oil and liquids than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined by 2025.
In Rystad Energy’s base case oil price scenario, US liquids production is forecast to surpass 24 million barrels per day over the next six years, thereby outpacing the combined output from Russia and Saudi Arabia…
“Some market participants have voiced concerns about a possible depletion in resources from core parts of major liquids basins in the US. But there are no indications that such a development will occur any time soon,” Abramov noted. “While Rystad Energy generally applies a conservative approach when estimating remaining drilling inventory per acreage, even in the most mature Bakken and Eagle Ford basins, about 70% of economically recoverable resources in Rystad Energy’s base case oil price scenario have yet to be developed.”
