I applaud President Obama for the bold reforms to the nation’s broken immigration system, albeit temporary. Immigration reform does not only impact our Latino brothers and sisters. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants from the Caribbean, South America and Africa now qualify for relief from the threat of deportation and will become eligible for lawful employment.
Almost all undocumented immigrants from the Caribbean and Guyana enter the United States lawfully but overstayed their visas and thus are out of status. A large percent has children and/or spouses who are either US citizens or permanent residents. Thousands more arrived before their sixteenth birthday but are ineligible for DACA because they are currently above age thirty-one. They have all lived here for a long time – decades in some cases, and are law abiding. America is their home. They deserve a shot at the American dream. Thanks to President’s initiates, they can now emerge from the shadows to pursue that dream, once they pass a criminal background check and pay any back taxes accrued.
This is a historic day for America – A nation of immigrants. Millions of families will remain united and millions of people will without fear begin to contribute to society and the US treasury. Economists forecast that this could boost GDP by over $1 trillion.
Republicans are not only opposing President Obama. They are attacking the relatives of millions of US citizens who vote, as well as millions of US permanent residents who will soon become voters. When these millions of Americans go to the polls to exercise their franchise, they will remember who stood with them and fought to keep their families united and who fought to tear their families and the nation apart!

It is not always white fault. And an opinion based on this reality is not fair and well founded, but it certainly appears to me that the white man considers the Black out of all of the men, as a real threat to his power based. In this very community where I now live here in America, a Spanish kid shot and killed a white cop in 2001 and yet, in what is a predominantly white and Hispanic community, one often sees the black man pulled over on the side of the street by a white cop.
Now, Moneybrian, for year’s blacks have been saying to the media and certain segment of the white community, that the white police were profiling young Black males. But somehow is was believed that the Black folks were playing the race-card, until one night when a young white kid videotaped the beating of Rodney King, which brought to reality what black folks had been saying all along; that the white racist cops were victimizing Black folk in America.
In any instant, let me tell you this much: prior to leaving Barbados I had held a favorable opinion regarding white people, given the fact that my next door neighbor in Barbados was white. But this all change when the cops white would stop me for no legitimate reason. And when I would walk next to a white woman and she would hold tightly to her bag. As well as when I would go to the store and a white person would run up to me and ask me if she or he could help me, and when the young white teenagers would shout racial epithets as their drive by in the cars.
So incidences as such these certainly cause one to harbor some hostility and resentment for the white man in America. Now, a learned friend of mine from Barbados made a very important observation many years ago. He said that, “The only time blacks and whites really get along in this country, is during times of national crisis”. And his theory materialized during the 9/11 crisis because I saw Black and white driving around this country with their patriotic flags flying high, realizing of course, that their survival were intricately interwoven .

The point is that while their are racist Whites, there is actually a very large group of Whites that are not thinking in a racist way and that group needs to be encouraged so that they can get the message out that racism is wrong BUT when the Bros loot and burn it builds a barrier to expanding in the desired direction. I know there is a problem with white racists and Policing in many parts of the US. It needs to be ironed out by leaders at the community level in a mature way. Sure it had to be investigated thoroughly because of what went down after he hit the Officer in the Police car. Am I sure Justice was served , NOT absolutely it depends on who was lying and who was telling the truth.
Sol Wachtler who at one time was Chief Judge of New York State Court of Appeals was once quoted that “ A Grand Jury would indict a ham sandwich if that is what you wanted” and that’s not what Prosecutor McCulloch wanted, he has to work with the Police in the St. Louis area and he wouldn’t want the men in blue to be angry with him since the Police and Prosecutors work hand in glove.
One could say that the fix was in from the start as (1)Wilson’s initial statement was not recorded,( 2)he bagged his own gun in an evidence bag,(3)An Investigator from the St. Louis County Medical Office did not take his own photos of the scene because his camera battery was dead (4) the same investigator opted not to take measurements of the area.
It is difficult at the best of times to get a prosecution of a Police Officer but people shouldn’t be surprised we are not too far removed from Rodney King and there was video evidence in that case. In McCulloch’s case he has taken 5 police cases to grand juries in 23 years and has not had an indictment, baseball is popular in St. Louis ( Brown was wearing a Cardinal hat) so McCulloch is batting 1000.

Your point is well taken sir. I am fully aware of the contribution of those whites who fought against the injustices of their fellow Europeans and their efforts both past and present ought to be commended, but unfortunately, their constitutes a very small minority.
But having said that, how often do you see those few whites who have had the moral courage to stand with the minority groups that are being victimized persecuted by entrenched white establishment? Not very often and for good reason because they do not want to be alienated and ostracized by this established white majority because at times their very survival depends on this very group.
Yes, I can point to major white figures that have given their material resources, and in very rare cases their lives to seek the cause of justice. William Wilberforce of Britain comes to mind and John Brown of the United States of America.

Four hundred years of the enslavement of the Black man cannot be wiped from the collective conscience of the race as though it has never happened. The history books bear testimony as well as the memories of the older generations of the Blacks bear truth to this evil injustice.

Here is my finally point on the topic sir. I know when the white man in America sees the plight of the African American, he cannot help but to feel some way in the subconscious level that the actions of his fore –parents in some small regard has contributed the destructive conditions the black man in America now finds himself in. My concern regarding some Blacks self -defeating attitude is when they, like AC is prone to do, suggest that Blacks dont own businesses that were destroyed in Feguson. Yet I saw Juanita interviewed on TV explaining how 28 yrs of growing her Beauty Salon has to be rebuilt / started over.

It is one thing to understand the dastardly details of Slavery and quite another to permit this to keep a black person down by self limitation.
I recommend that black Americans do what Clever Black Bajans do, use the history and knowledge of Slavery to atomically FUEL their absolute determination to Succeed—the ultimate revenge! I have met black Doctors that are so very proud that you can hear it in their voice/ see it in their body language, when they are introduced by others or are introducing themselves.
BTW, our family Dr in Bim was NOT white, and that was in the 1950s-1980s.
My playmates in the village were obviously dark and we still speak today they come upto me at the Airport or anywhere for a chat. I always acknowledge them. Afterall we spent loads of time playing Cricket etc on the pasture.
