.

In less than a year Barbados has witnessed a chaotic political scene to describe it mildly. The death of a young prime minister and his wife voted as his replacement in St. John, Prime Minister Stuart’s taciturn demeanour and the perception in some quarters that he is not fully in control and last but not least  the deselection of Mia Mottley by her parliamentary colleagues and the elevation of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur.

Speculation is rife about what what happened at Roebuck Street to spur the revolt which saw Mia Mottley being replaced by Owen Arthur. Again one might assume given George Payne’s surprise support to Owen Arthur that Mia messed up in a big way. This is Barbados and at some point one can expect to be fully informed about what many Barbadians regard as a ‘Brutus’  move by the 2010 Barbados Labour Party parliamentary group – with the exception of MPs Cynthia Forde and Rawle Eastmond – meted out to Mottley.

With a general election looming the two major political parties will want to resolve perceived leadership issues. The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) appears on the surface to be in better shape than the BLP but the adage a week is a long time in politics will give Prime Minister Stuart little comfort. The BLP’s internal challenges could potentially get messy if BU is reading the signals being sent in the public space correctly.

A few weeks ago Opposition Leader Owen Arthur made the declaration that he and Mia were in healing mode. What made the statement interesting at the time was the absence of Mia’s input from the communication, it was reported she was out of the island. BU was surprised at Mia’s response when she eventually commented claiming in essence ignorance to any peace pipe encounters with Arthur. Mia’s shot across the BLP bow last week about the need to reform the constitution of the party and her threat to challenge for the Chairmanship of the BLP at the next AGM to spearhead the effort if necessary has created a challenge for Arthur. Already party supporters are echoing disappointment by questioning her timing, others have suggested she had the chance as Chair of the party to move the reforms forward. In the coming days and weeks Arthur’s response to Mia’s recent salvo will be eagerly awaited. All may agree this matter if not managed well has the potential to divide the party.

At the heart of the matter for BU is the inference made by Owen Arthur back in January 2010 – in the Tyrone Barker Report – that Mia Mottley as Opposition Leader misused “the special trust fund the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) set up to meet the cost of elections”. As far as BU is aware Mottley has not responded publicly to the charge. Barbados needing to protect its reputation as a rumour mill there is talk about malfeasance making the rounds. It is a matter Mia should address head on at some point or could it be Arthur knows something which has not been landed in the public space to date?

The other issue which Mia Mottley must manage is the perception by some that there is an entitlement on her clan’s part to occupy Ilaro Court. No politician can be seen as perfect and whether such a perception is big enough to cause a drag on her aspiration to be the first female Prime Minister of Barbados is best left for the polls.

The question for the political pundits is whether the BLP significantly reduces its chance at the polls with a disaffected Mia Mottley in its fold.  The easy answer is yes. BU is prepared to state at this stage that the BLP will not give itself the best chance to win the next general election unless the Arthur Mottley tussle is neutralized.

  2. Good managing of BU, David
    We should be dealing with issues and bringing solutions instead of abusing the blogs with personal attacks on people’s character until allegations are proven beyond a doubt.
    Again David, thanks for your policing.

    Hants, It seems like the BLP are already trying to fill the coffers, they stole from us in office and now they steal from us in opposition, with two known candidates already in hot water with using other people’s money for their political purposes lets look at the two cases at hand.

    The first is one is a guy called Roger The Dodger who has
    suddenly found an abundance of cash to be throwing around
    in the East but apparently the facts are only now being
    revealed that this money that he has been throwing around
    is not his at all to throw around, but rather it belongs
    to Sagicor who has just found out that in excess of $
    300,000.00 has been stolen by the said Roger the Dodger and
    being used by him to buy votes in the East.

    The senior officers of Sagicor met well into the night
    last night to discuss their findings and the reports are
    that the decision was taken to pass the file over to the
    Royal Barbados Police Force and let the DPP take it from
    there.

    Then we have the other one in the East one Under Wear running a scam and collecting funds and not
    delivering of what was offered in his tours, he has left
    many people with a bad taste in their mouths some actually
    paid in money to be part of his Bajan Posse events and
    received nothing in return one such person who is
    extremely bitter by his actions and who has paid him and
    never received a service nor received a refund of her
    money is C S who would like Mr Under Wear to make
    her funds available to her ASAP if not sooner

  5. Why are we hearing impromptu statements from Ministers.
    Impromtu No:1
    All of a sudden after Friday’s fire in the city, the representative for the city stated that Government was removing the asbestos from the Old Ice Factory to make way for High Rise Housing Solutions. He went further and said that Government was in the process of compulsory acquiring the area known as Bajan Cleaning for the said housing solutions.
    Please tell the public why you would acquire an area used for an existing business. Should we say that something sounds fishy?

    IMPROMPTU No:2
    Based on demographic and the saying that Barbadians are having less children and noting that immigrants are having tough times in getting they children in schools and possibly, two secondary schools coming/already on stream by private entities, namely the Muslims and the private and expensive one in the country. Do tell me Minister Jones why you will be building another secondary school? You also confirm the building of a school for defiant children which probably would be for children 11 and over. This will also be under the aegis of a Secondary School. Government cannot continue to play employer numero uno. Where are these funding coming from?

    Here is yet again a very sad story, that the bank account opened by Barney Lynch for the Codrington family cannot be accessed after 3 years of trying, does the bank account have any funds still in it ?
    He screwed up Tourism and he obviously screwed up this family.

    By Maria Bradshaw | Sun, June 05, 2011 – 12:10 AM
    Mystery surrounds the administration of a trust fund set up back in 2007 for the three surviving children of Donavere Codrington, who died when the apartment building where he was living collapsed into the cave beneath.

    SUNDAY SUN investigations have revealed that the fund, bearing the account number 0278-0098 at the Barbados National Bank, has in over $20 000.

    But upset family members say they have not been able to benefit from the fund, even though they have been asking questions about it for the past three years.

    The fund was announced on October 30, 2007, by then Minister of Tourism Noel Lynch at a Press conference, shortly after the Arch Cot tragedy that took the lives of Donavere, his wife Cassandra and three children.

  8. What are you trying to achieve “Nothing in the Mortar not even the pestle” The Sunday Sun reported that over $20,000.00 are in the bank fund. Are you trying to discredit people again. The bank can simply release any funds by a past administration to the present administration. But again the area is represented by the Prime Minister. Are you condemning his swiftness?

  9. Is “One man one vote:” a crusade to stamp-out corruption within the BLP? Avatar
    Is “One man one vote:” a crusade to stamp-out corruption within the BLP?

    As an independent observer, I think Sunday Sun Columnist Albert Brandford might have got it all wrong this week (see his column: Sunday Sun, June 5, 2011). I now clearly understand why Social Media has ruled Traditional Media, obsolete. Social Media, for the most part, is being driven by young people: a new generation, who have found an innovative way to communicate, which seems to have given them the freedom of expression, they are comfortable with. This is a new generation who are not willing to turn a-blind-eye towards corruption. Mia Mottley therefore seems aware that going into the next election, the BLP will have a major problem!

    Talk what you like – Mia Mottley is, therefore, pure class, in that the woman seem to have a vision, while her reformist philosophy is also a commendable attempt to re-position the 72-year-old BLP, to win. How can you fault her for that? The point must not be lost that it was Mia Mottley (a then 28-year-old Minister of Education) who introduced technology into schools in Barbados.

    Therefore, what is Mia Mottley’s reformist agenda all about? To find the answer, Albert Brandford would have to have asked himself: despite the alleged life threatening change in healthcare, despite the state of the economy – what is the one issue, which the DLP is likely to use against the BLP (with credibility) during the upcoming general election campaign? The answer would again have to be :corruption.” There has never been a time in its 72-year-old history when the BLP can be said to be as corrupt as it is now under its present leadership. This explains the clash between the new leadership of the BLP and the Stalwarts, who too are being ignored in their attempt to tell the BLP, pull back. Barbadians want competent governance but they equally want, honest government!

    Many will willingly admit that the BLP was removed from office because of allegations of corruption and that it really did not help the BLP’s case when the late David Thompson was able to produce a cheque to emphasise his charge. Owen Arthur was seriously wounded long before the campaign started. In fact, from the night he was forced by Thompson to bring debate on the Budget, to an abrupt end, Arthur became a liability to the BLP.

    Now in Opposition, it does not help the BLP’s image when in the very Nation newspaper, there are front page stories, with images of voter rigging and other forms of electoral fraud. It is hardly a pretty sight when people willingly admit that they never made any attempt to join the BLP but have received letters confirming their membership. Call it what you like, that is corruption. A year has since passed yet not a word from the leadership of the BLP.

    Then there is the “Prior Park Accord,” or the deal which was worked out between Owen Arthur and George Payne, the man who has been fingered as being head of the BLP’s elaborate Ponzi scheme. It should make anybody nervous that if now in Opposition and Arthur is so willing to cut deals in his interest, think what will again happen during what he describes as his ‘second coming.’ The new generation finds this type of conduct, vulgar and offensive!

    So an element of the BLP was corrupt in Government; it is also now corrupt in Opposition but wants the people o Barbados to vote for it so that what? It can continue its corrupt practice? Is that it? How could that be fair to the new clean candidates the BLP is running? This seems to be what Mia Mottley’s reforming philosophy is all about. It seems clear that her reformist agenda and crusade for change started with her putting new, fresh; clean candidates in place early.

    You do not have to be a rocket-scientist to realise that Mia Mottley seems to be trying to stamp-out corruption within the BLP but that decision has placed her squarely on a collision course with the old-boys club and the very persons who are responsible for the corruption. It seems obvious that Mia Mottley had the option to close ranks and keep her mouth shut. That most certainly would have caused her to find favour and be popular among the corrupt element. That she opted to speak-out and finds herself sandwiched between Arthur/Payne and the gang of five – means that the only persons she can sensibly turn to in order to force change, is the rank-and-file, hence her: “one man one vote,” re-engineering agenda.

    The issue seems quite simple to me: Mia Mottley is on a crusade to stamp-out corruption within the BLP but powerful people seem determine to put obstacles in her way, in their own interest. Are Barbadians going to wait until the next BLP Conference to appear surprise when they read that the BLP’s voters list has again been rigged? This cannot be solely a BLP issue because every year, the BLP receives $150,000 from the public purse to run its affairs. Don’t panic! Given my many years, I have never seen an easier DLP campaign on a silver platter. I kid you not!

  10. One man One vote
    The accusations the late David Thompson brought, backfired in his face and is still doing the same thing to the DLP now. The Hardwood Project, who has been brought to justice; verdict no-one case STILL BORN. The ABC H,way overspending, to date this government has spent or are spending over bds $ 50 mil extra, even after fooling the public the h,way was conplete. The Dodds project, this party accused the former government of dealing with a shady individual that has cost the people of Barbados, yet they are now in bed with the same person with not one but two projects. Let’s not even talk about Clico and the talk among the public of Barbados about who have Clico money. You have the guts to talk about the accusations that have brought down the BLP? I voted for the DLP because I believed Mr Thompson, now I’m disappointed that I’ve allowed myself to be brainwashed by these accusations. Politics in Barbados has reached a new low and for the first time since the early 70’s, if I’m around next general elections, I don’t think I’ll be voting, unless there is a new party with new ideas and directions.

  11. From the grave the “dead king” as some call him continue to dominate the labour party. When was Mia seen as unfit to lead ? When it became clear to all that the king was about to depart his throne. Like sharks at the scent of blood in water, frenzied was the height of activity once David’s demise was obvious. As a bull is to a bitch on her oestrus cycle, drawn was Owen S. Arthur , no longer tired and fatigued ,for here was the opportunity to regain the reign,AT ANY COST. Take a look at the St.John by election . With the myriad of issues confronting the country he chose a jack ass strategy ( quite the same as Jenny M’s )focussing on some dynasty that still exists in his mind only. It took Prodical Son on this very page to proffer what easily could have been the party’s action plan for that election. What was it they said made strange bed-fellows ? Was it politics , or was it the sceptre of power ? Either way the amalgamation of a mascot in a cork hat, fresh off a bout of political laryngitis and a bitter spiteful former leader is a scary proposition for all of us ,since only fair is the thought that if they were willing to pad the vote to win at party level ,they may try the same at a national scale.

  12. And to you who seem to think that DEMS should have no comment on this topic I simply say this .Ef dog fight could happen between bees ,den eggs could go ta big rock dance . And since when Jenny M find out bout how long de mottleys did belong ta da party? dat woman just teck hypocrisy ta new levels ,but I understand cause fear does do dem things.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, refresh…………….
    Wait! Um really wukking fuh trute!

  14. I for one do not believe that there is corruption in the DLP or any hint thereof.

    For Mr. Scout to insinuate that there is such because certain people and practices that were denigrate by the DLP while in opposition, are now being embraced by the betrays a certain level of critical thinking that I am yet to achieve. It also suggest that he is unfamiliar with, or has forgotten the contents of that delightful Mills & Boon classic, Animal Farm.

    Bring evidence Mr. Scout. For without evidence there can be no action and your words will just be seen as political propaganda and misinformation.

  15. DisiClean
    Is it for me to bring the evidence or the ruling party or its supporters? I stood at Haggatt Hall and was convinced that the BLP was the most corrupt party ever in Barbados, as I mentioned before, the last five years of the Owen Arthur’s administration would go down as awful, the DLP would have won the elections even without the accusations made by them especially at that meeting. This is now over three years since winning elections and this party that promised to investigate these matters have not yet started (NOT ONE)and another general elections is just around the corner and you are asking me to bring proof? GET REAL.

  16. @ DisiClean …….. your first chore is to establish which Scout you are dealing with , for all are convinced that there must be two with the same moniker. There is one that loves the folk from Guyana, and helps them when ever and as much as he could, and then there is the other one that wants them out (dem trouble makers) as soon as possible. There is one Scout that has no political bias and calls things as he sees them , then there is the other who just calls things………….. everything . His next post critical of anything that happened in the labour party ,WILL BE HIS FIRST. That one is the fraud . The other is the Christian.

  17. Have it you’re way Mr. Scout.
    Proving an allegation can sometimes be a bit more difficult than making that said allegation, so you must understand that these things will take sometime. During investigations and forensic audits, an ever increasing amount of allegations are uncovered which then need to be also investigate. So you can well imagine the challenges being encountered on a daily basis.

    Have no fear though evidence will be found and justice will be had, but until then all previous charges remain for there is an over-abundance of evidence to suggest those and future allegations are not completely without merit.

    Be patient three years is not three mornings.

  18. The other way to look at it is after 3 year they will not do anything about the allegation. The 100 day promises are still missing after 3 years. The merit in that means it unlikely we will ever see them until maybe the last year if at all.

  19. Some people just won’t let you forget anything.

    Those 100 days promises were important yes, but circumstances at the time necessitated that more pressing matters be given priority.

    Even if History shows that platform promises are seldom kept, the 100 days promises will be kept as soon as it is politically expedient.

    All allegations of corruption will be investigated thoroughly. This does not mean that we have heard the last of them. As stated early, more allegations are made everyday and these have to be investigated also. When it is politically expedient, the relevant authorities will be informed and the populace duly notified.

  20. Interesting is the fact there is a St. Michael Zone meeting this evening and both Mia and Owen are slated to speak. Interesting times indeed.

  21. If there is so much anticipation and excitement now, one can only imagine that the next general elections will be the grandmother of all battles.

  22. If they can’t keep small promise why should we expect them to keep big one is what the population would think. the call to route out corruption has been left hanging for three year. the need for integrity /FOI legislation is way overdue.

  23. Wishing In Vain Avatar

    David, The hurt that Mottley feels will not be plasted over by any branch meeting , there is only one thing Mottley wants and that is the heads of Owing See Thru , George Pain, Gale Mashall and the Philsbury Boy Aintgood, and the long dose of salts Toppin who she has vowed to removed from his seat because he told her that he would never serve under a woman and especiall something like Mottley so he has problems..

    She will not rest until she sees the back of them.

  24. FOI & IATL will be brought to the house as soon as the drafts are ready.
    As stated early there is no more corruption. All traces of that disappeared on 28-01-2008 and is no longer a problem. As long as the BLP does not hold the purse strings, all will be well.

    This administration promised transparent governance and the country can rest assured that transparency in the people’s business is of paramount importance to this Government.

  25. transparent lo, No corruption either lol. how after reading paris contract clico and signed by the former pm ( who couldn’t find anything when asked about it) could you think think anything transparent here. Think your living in fantasy world. they were need 3 years ago when they where promised.

  26. The majority of people of Barbados must vote the DLP and BLP entirely out of the parliament in the next 6 years.

    Both DLP and BLP are corrupt, intellectually politically bankrupt and visionless factions that must go in this country.

    Their primary quest at this stage is to preserve the status quo, very much in the interest of their self-aggrandisement, in the interest of their own useless dreams and in the interest of the promotion of much of their corporate familial cronistic foreign affairs.

    Since the death of the late great Errol Barrrow in 1987, both these joke parties have lost their political way and sense of national duty.

    Down with the damned dlp and the blasted blp.

    PDC.

  27. DLP + PDC = BLP
    BLP + PDC = DLP
    DLP – PDC = DLP
    BLP – PDC = BLP

    DLP = BLP = PDC

  28. In the context of serious Opposition politics, the recent repeated call for a change to the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) constitution by former Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley seems, if not ill-conceived, then certainly ill-timed and loaded with self-interest.

    Its reintroduction comes at a time when the Government is under its greatest pressure to date, with regard to its health care policy, a persistent recession and unassured leadership.

    The stated issues relate to the timing of Mottley’s suggestion which seems chosen more in an attempt to refocus the Opposition moreso than to maintain the focus on the Government.

    Given that Barbados needs leadership which on the current performance of the Government has to come from the Barbados Labour Party, unless perhaps the leadership of the DLP changes, it is only fitting that whoever leads the two major parties has the best chance of leading the country. The conception is that simple.

    In the circumstances, Mottley’s proposed change to the BLP’s constitution must be seen more in the context of its timing than its ability to transform the party before the next general election.

    In this sense, there has to be an element of self-interest, since the constitutional realities, especially at the national level, cannot be lost on the former attorney general.

    Recently, Mottley said she was not in politics looking for friendships. This is a given, since politicians are not known to have genuine friendships with their colleagues.

    So what is it then that gets politicians to focus? The answer is power. So what is power, you might ask?

    The answer is that thing which allows the individual to have influence in the pursuit of self-interest. So what is ultimate power? The answer is being Prime Minister.
    ……. the recent comments of the former Opposition Leader seem, if not ill-conceived, then certainly ill-timed and loaded with self-interest.

    My comments: Everybody knows that Mia Mottley is working for the Democratic Labour Party and if she cant get what she wants , she will sell out to the DLP AGAIN.

  30. “The point must not be lost that it was Mia Mottley (a then 28-year-old Minister of Education) who introduced technology into schools in Barbados.”

    What trash!!! What poppycock!! that passes for commentary on here.

    So ill-informed is this political bugler that this PDC member could only surmise that this person – almost wrote him or her off as a political bootlicker -is verily playing a very discordant tune for their own political supper.

    Well, give some of us on here a break, please!!!!

    Some of our members remember going to secondary school and seeing and using typewriters and photocopiers well before Ms. Mottley first became a BLP candidate in 1991 – and three years before she actually became a minister of government. And we saw computers printers fax machines too – though not as many as today -in the late 80s and early 90s in the primary and secondary schools of Barbados.

    So, what dlp-ish imp-ish type of modern propaganda about Mottley introducing technology into school, what?

    Sorry, but it has also been falsely stated by some unfortunate people that Barrrow and his DLP introduced free education in Barbados!!

    But, it has also been said by many older folk that the late Tom Adams said you must never let a lie get too far for you will have difficulty catching it.

    So, down with the sledge hammer in Estwickian style to smash to smithereens this one before it gets too far, and before many of a younger generation of people fall prey to this arrant nonsense.

    There will be no healing between Mia and owen, the divide is too great, no public relations exercise can heal that distrust, which started during the 2008 elections when mascoll was elevated as a coleader. because of that, the cartoons had Mia “putting” some thumps in Owen.

    Think of that for a while, how are you going to get Mia, Cynthia and Rawle trusting the other faction.

    Owen is getting a taste of his own medicine. Today for me and tomorrow for you.

    Barbadians are not stupid and they know that divide has to do with powerplay, owen want the power so that he can sellout the land to the higestt bidder and in the mean time amass additional wealth from such a posit Cow and Bizzy want him so that they can continue to amass land and create a shortage. They are not pleased with the government selling at $5 a sq ft.

  43. This is nothing but the whole truth;

    For sometime now, evil persons have sought repeatedly to attribute blame to Mrs Marquetta Rayside, wife of Keith Rayside Snr, for the demise of the Rayside Group of companies.

    She has been accused of stripping the group of companies of its financial assets since assuming the office of Chief Executive Officer in 2005.

    However, in this expose, this writer hopes to apportion blame where it is rightfully due.

    Are Barbadians aware that prior to his marriage to this beautiful young lady, the group of companies was heavily indebted to the VAT Office, the National Insurance Scheme and Inland Revenue?

    Are Barbadians aware that the group of companies was facing major challenges in servicing their bank loans having secured overdraught facilities carrying interest rates as high as 14 per cent in some cases?

    Are Barbadians aware that on many occasions funds due to the company for work done for government agencies were garnished in an attempt to collect arrears due to the government agencies identified above?

    How can anyone strip a company of its financial assets when its bankers and government agencies were keeping a keen eye on its financial dealings?

    Are Barbadians aware that following the receipt of a multi-million dollar settlement after the company’s take over by CLICO, the chief beneficiaries were Keith Rayside’s nine children, a former wife and his grand-children? Even though Marquetta was his lawful wife at the time, she was unaware that Mr Rayside had established a joint account with one of his daughters at the Barbados National Bank at Warrens, St Michael.

    Barbadians may be unaware that Rayside’s children and grand –children had unimpeded access to the company’s fuel tank at its Green Hill, St Michael headquarters.

    Identified below are some of the major financial excesses entered into by Keith Rayside to appease his contentious children, grand-children and a former wife:

    (1) The joint account was a Club 55 plus Chequing account;
    (2) At all times the funds on the joint account were to be managed and used by his daughter and Rayside Snr;
    (3) The sum of one thousand dollars ($1000 per week) was to be paid to Ione Rayside a former wife of Rayside Snr;
    (4) From February 2006, the sum of Bds $5000 per month was to be paid to Dwayne Rayside, Rayside Snr, son who resided in Florida, USA;
    (5) On May 26 2006, the sum of Bds $15 000 was paid to Juliette Payne the mother of Dwayne Rayside for his maintenance;
    (6) On November 2 2006 the sum of Bds$50 000 was paid to Juliette Payne for the maintenance of Dwayne Rayside;
    (7) Rayside Snr and his daughter agreed that she would retain the cheque book in respect of the Club 55 Plus joint account, and all statements in respect thereof were to be delivered to her premises in Christ Church. At all times she operated the Club 55 Plus joint account freely;
    (8) The Club 55 Plus joint account was subsequently changed to a Major League Joint Account on or about June 15, 2007;
    (9) On May 14, 2008 Rayside’s Snr daughter deposited on Butterfield Bank a cheque for the sum of Bds $4 333 330.50 representing the proceeds of the sale by Rayside Holdings Ltd of its 1 728 241 shares in Rayside Construction Ltd into the Major League Joint Account at the BNB;
    (10) On or about June 4 2008, the sum of $400 000 was paid to Keith Rayside Jnr for his absolute use. This was in addition to $200 000 which represented his one per cent share in Rayside Construction Ltd;
    (11) On or about June 2008, the sum of Bds $100 000 was given to Dwayne Rayside for his absolute use and benefit;
    (12) On or about May 28, 2008 Rayside Snr agreed to make cash gifts to his daughters and grand children of Bds $ 2 000 000 from funds on the said Major League Joint Account;
    (13) While Rayside Snr’s children and grand-children were benefiting from these golden handshakes, he advanced his wife, Marquetta of many years a loan of Bds$200 000 under a legally binding arrangement which stipulated that the sum was to be deducted from her share of the husband’s estate.

    Armed with this information the general public of Barbados can now determine who were responsible for the bankruptcy of a once successful black business-house.

    It should be noted that Mrs Rayside only became aware of these disbursements after they were completed. Please be reminded that this writer has plenty of information on this sordid saga.

  44. @Prodigal Son et al

    Let us kiss and make up and lets see some real opposition politics going down the road!

  45. indeed david. Has anyone seen the clico 30 day judicial report as yet ? given the the 90 day deloitte and touche report with baico asset being reassessed as having an additional 40 million shortfall ( due to reduced assets value) on top of the orginal 40 million shortfall for liabilities to assets. Will clico, when the assets have been reassessed have a similar shortfall?

  46. @Prodigal Son

    Earlier in this thread I posted the following query which was directed at you
    “BTW what will you say about Mia if she and Owen decide to “kiss and make up”?
    The time is ripe for your response and we look forward to it with great anticipation

  47. The question would be if Mottley was on a crusade for truth and was rocking the boat willing to prevent the BLP from winning an election, what has persuaded her to kiss and makeup.? You jackasses have to decide if she is ‘so strong on principle’ then something of a genuine nature, if fledging has occurred to get her to kiss and make up. Maybe she thinks that Hartley and the boys are running the country into the ground and flounder from error to error, people suffering. Maybe Arthur moved like a leader and reached to her and disjointed Payne’s nose, so he might just have been the astute politician we know him to be. It would eat me out if I worked my ass off for 14 years to build a ocuntry to see these donkeys flushing it down a toilet becuase they can’t manage a crisis. A bunch of TV actors for Ministers and volume on mute for a PM.

    My business sliding and sliding and more like me closing doors and laying off people. Many cannot meet bills, you think any business man in this country large or small can afford these incompetents in gov’t a year longer. The majority of the business community expressed the same opinion, more businesses will perish unless we change this gov’t. They are doing shite. Incompetence and corruption is a bad combination. What de hell you call what Michael Lashley is doing? Explain honesty and integrity in light of Jada getting Coverley, Valery, 2 gov’t buildings, Country road, over 1.2 b in work and Bannister getting – marina and port construction another 1. 2 b. Contractors and labourer sucking salt because Jada builds precast concrete. In the midst of a crisis you can do such a scandalous thing and talk bout care for poor people and building a society. The only society that being built is who getting kickbacks at citizens’ expense.

  48. @ Polyphemus….”For sometime now, evil persons have sought repeatedly to attribute blame to Mrs Marquetta Rayside, wife of Keith Rayside Snr, for the demise of the Rayside Group of companies.”

    What has this got to do with the “Mia Mottley Factor”? I wish you would stop airing your dirty linens here. Mr Rayside snr has every right to give his children and grandchildren whatever he gives them. They are his BLOOD. Sounds like sour dunks to me.

    Mia Mottley trying to stamp out corruption within the BLP Barbados Labour Party

    “You do not have to be a rocket-scientist to realise that Mia Mottley seems to be trying to stamp-out corruption within the BLP but that decision has placed her squarely on a collision course with the old-boys club and the very persons who are responsible for the corruption.”

    Can “One man, one vote” stamp-out BLP corruption?

    by “O”

    “Campaign Donation” deposited to Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s personal bank account.
    Many will willingly admit that the BLP was removed from office because of allegations of corruption and that it really did not help the BLP’s case when the late David Thompson was able to produce a cheque to emphasize his charge.

    So an element of the BLP was corrupt in Government; it is also now corrupt in Opposition but wants the people of Barbados to vote for it so that what?

  50. @BT: not be confused with the other BT (Bush Tea)

    Chicken Little has nothing on you with all the prediction of doom and gloom.

    Why don’t you put aside the rhetoric about businesses that “ will perish” and admit that Mia had Owen by the short and curlies and expediency won over principle.

    After the long talk about Mia and her competence and ability to lead somebody eating crow today and it certainly aint Mia.

    I know that apart from it being a naked grab for power there were other reasons that Mia was ousted from her position and if she is welcomed back in the fold you can be sure that promises have been made which will put her in the driver’s seat.

    Secrets in politics in Barbados is like an old fridge which has lost the ability “to keep”, and as a result of this détente someone’s nose will be out of joint and the “secrets” being kept will make their way to this forum where Jackasses like me can put in our two cents.
