brotherskeptapartFellow blogger Weighed in the Balance has undertaken the ambitious and highly risky task of writing a book which as he terms it “is a comparative analysis of the Bible and the Qur’an, and it assumes that both books are correct.  If God is the principal author of each book, as Christians and Muslims claim, then a comparative analysis should reveal harmony between the principal teachings of both.  This is what I have found.  Hence, Christians and Muslims have been kept apart by their religious leaders who have taught their adherents that God has rejected the other group.” The topic matter was thought to be so contentious that he originally penned his book using a pseudonym.

Phillip’s book is titled Brothers Kept Apart and can be purchased on Amazon.com at a reasonable price. Some members of the BU family have already demonstrated that they are students of the religions. Brother Phillips advises that the book represents 30 years of research and 7 years of critical review and he stands ready to defend his thesis.

It is no secret that the BU household has demonstrated a keen interest in the religions or what some people disparagingly refer to as dogmas. It is a fascinating subject and one which is shrouded in mystery, allegories, parables, fables and some theology  Religion has been used through the ages to edify and destroy man’s existence. Of interest to all through the ages has been the cooption of  religion to pit Islam versus Christianity, East versus West by geo-political motivated groups.

For a synopsis of the book the BU family is welcomed to visit Phillips’s blog. We look forward to a fascinating discussion and take the opportunity to wish him every success.

What he has attempted demonstrates courage of conviction, a characteristic in scarce supply.

  2. I am not attacking your message, GP! I am attacking your style of communication (and your unwillingness to accept that others may NOT understand what you are saying). Life is short, everyone does not have the same level of schooling and expertise nor the resources that you have.

Do you believe that you are sharing the Good News or that you are showing off as to how much you have studied and learnt? Do you care if we get God’s message and that the glory is God’s or is it more important that we are impressed by your “scholarship”?!

I don’t want to shut you up but rather the opposite. I want to understand what you claim to have found.

  3. By the way GP, when it comes to God, any (and all) man’s learning can only be “little”.

If indeed you want to understand what I claim to have found, ASK questions, and I will answer them.

How can I know if you are getting the message or not?

    If you don’t understand ask.

If you don’t ask questions, I can only assume that you understand, as the literate Bajan that I expect you to be.

I know that I am sharing the Good News accurately, and my style of communicating the Word is in keeping with all the great expositors I have read, and/or listened to.

If you ask I will point you to many great free resources online, and places where you can buy good CDS that contain whole commentaries on line of good Bible expositors.

I have always enjoyed sharing what I have and know about the Word. All who truly know me , know that to be true.

Instead of attacking me, all you had to do is ask questions. Thats how most people who dont know learn. They ask questions.

Rohan… we all know Einstein did not believe in a personal God… it was extensively discussed on another thread last year. But belief in the Divine does not require belief in a personal God (i.e. theism). Did you read the entire Wikipedia section on Einstein’s religious stance? Einstein by his own admission was not an atheist (it was in that same section you cut-and-paste from LOL)… but I’m sure you knew this.

On a related subject, what are your views on Spinoza’s philosophy and acosmism?

  7. MME, I don’t know enough about either subject to speak intelligently on them. I did study acosmism and the Brahman in college (East West Synthesis class) , and really enjoyed it.

Just being able to think of things in a completely different way is pretty cool…reminds me of the “dreaming of a butterfly” quote.

    Interesting stuff though MME

My wife told me something that I thought sickly fascinating. She said that according to the OT a wife may not touch the testicles of a man other than her husband, even if he is in mortal combat and doing so would save her husband’s life. Is this true? If so where is this passage? (I been impressin’ her wid some quotes that I read pum dis thread and she real impressed. shhhhh.. She don’ know that I askin’ you….!)

  10. Rohan, “Amazing picture and accomplished by the ingenuity of intelligent men.”

Yes, gifted men, so gifted by an absolutely, awesome, Omnipotent, Loving God, who has just allowed us, to see a ‘glimmer’ of His amazing universe, we ain’t seen nothing yet!

    “But as it is written:”

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard. Nor have entered into the heart of man, The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Cor. 2: 9).

Yet, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.” ‘They are (truly) corrupt.” (Psa. 14: 1)

I think that your wife is referring to Deuteronomy 25:11 & 12 which reads

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

12Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

Rohan & NS missed these verses in thier anti-Bible rants.

  12. GP
taketh him by the secrets:? Ha Ha. GP yah killin’ mah. Ha Haaaa!.
No secret that my wife knew ’bout the passage.

    @ BAFBFP

“taketh him by the secrets” is correct!
Man you cant beat the beauty of the old English of the KJV!

As Bajans we might say our dialect is far superior. If we had translated the OT from the Vulgate or Septuagint, we would have written

and “squezed him by the balls” or “squeezed his balls”.

I must confess that I have advised young female medical students that if male colleagues try to fondle them from behind in the scrub room that they ought to retaliate sweetly by ” taking him by the secrets”

Of course I instruct them in Bajan!

  14. But GP
I walk around my house in the raw. I don’t have any secrets, I guarantee yah… ! Ha Ha. Incidentally I have a cure for intrusive, persistent Seventh Day Adventists with watch towers. Can you guess what it is?

Are you saying that you deter the itinerant JW’s by revealing your secrets?

Does this give them much to talk about, or nothing to speak of?

If any of them should dare to putt forth the hand, and take you by the secrets, will you say that you deserved it? Or will you cut off the hand, with out any pity.

I suspect that Rohan did not comment on this verse in his rant, because he knows inately that the squeezing of balls is not nice. Perhaps he played foward and missed in his youth while playing wind ball cricket in the village!

Because the scrotal contents descends from T 12 at the level of the heart, serious contact with this area is felt via referred pain in the heart, along with the lopcal pain!

Would that not rid the world of that scourge called “divorce lawuers?”LOL As they would also be guilty of the same sin, to wit taking men by “the secrets.”.

    Just Imagine!
An Orlando Sentinel Staff Writer, Jeff Kunerth has written an article in yesterday’s paper entitled After the Rapture: Orlando man will deliver messages to those left behind. The article, quoted below states that an
atheist Joshua Witter sells cards to Christians that he will deliver to those left behind after the rapture.
    It reads thus

There are those who believe in the Rapture prophesied in the Bible. And there is Joshua Witter, avowed atheist.

    They need each other.

At least some people think so — those willing to pay Witter to be their post-apocalyptic postman, delivering cards and letters to their non-believing friends, relatives and neighbors who will be left behind when the Day of Reckoning arrives.

About 70 people have paid the Orlando man about $5 apiece to get their messages to those doomed to face the plagues, pestilence and darkness of Armageddon.

  23. Mr Anonymous

    You Anonymous are very dishonest

It is interesting that after you sought to castigate GP for his most edifying posts by claiming that you don’t understand, you have not yet found it possible to pose any questions as he so graciously invited you to.

I know that you, and many of the guys here like Rok, Not saved, Rohan and others don’t believe in God, consequently, the Scriptures mean nothing to you. I know too that as good as his long expostions are, it is just ‘Greek’ to you guys, because folk who have not sat under good Bible teaching may find these long discourses a bit much. But you can certainly ask questions if you were honest about understanding.

You must realize that there are many folk who, though not posting are learning a lot about the scriptures as a result of the postings by both Zoe and GP, because they teach unlike what we hear in most churches, or even on television , where the preachers seem to extract the sowing of seed from any text that they choose.

IMHO I think that you Anonymous are very dishonest, and more interested in attacking GP than in learning about the Bible from his posts. But I know others that read and enjoy his posts. This includes teenagers like myself. I notice that BAFBFP and Technician often ask questions, and receive answers. But I dont expect you Mr Anonymous to ask any questions.

IMHO GP writes in plain clear English, and I am sure you understand him, as well as I do!. But know what I think? Your father, the devil does not want any clear cut teaching or discussion on the Olivet Discourse or the Second Coming on this blog. He needs for all you Bible haters and agnostics that attack the Bible on this blog to think put your heads in the sand, and believe that all is well “as in the days of Noah”.

It is very clear to me that you, and others on this blog are led by the devil, who directs you to alter your line of attack as it suits him. Nothing that either GP or Zoe says suffice you guys. You find some way to negate or denigrate or jab at every thing they say. Your aim is to run all good Bible teaching off BU. Is that not so?

GP made a comment that he thought that Jesus was coming soon. Before you could say Bathsheba, Pat, Not Saved and Rohan began to scoff and attack him by posting several scriptures out of context. But GP turned the attacks around with clear sound teaching on 2 Peter 3, Jude 14&15 and a most erudite introduction to the Olivet Discourse.

Whereas that Rohan Rok and Not saved and others can always find something online written by the dwindling supporters of evolution to promote thier cause, and keep on mocking Zoe, when he posts on this topic, they, however, know little Bible, and so can not stand up to a debate on the doctrine of the Second Coming.

Because they dont know any Bible, you will notice that these guys have run and hid. Anonymous you are probably one of them. Not being able to respond to GP especially on Jude, you have resorted to ad hominems led by your father the devil. You guys are a sordid, sorry bunch!

I hope that Zoe and GP, will not let you dudes run them of this blog, because they are teaching the Bible at the level at which it ought to be taught! At least that is what I am accustomed to in the little church in which I grew up. Good food men!

  24. Ethel,
I’ve realized something about christians. Whenever they use the “out of context” defense they’re basically admitting that they cannot argue their point on its merits.

I could post 50 scriptures of Jesus saying exactly when he will return to the earth. Then he doesn’t show up and your response will be “you’re taking the quotes out of context”.

    Good luck.

  25. Ethel Bethel

“I know that you, and many of the guys here like Rok, Not saved, Rohan and others don’t believe in God”

You had better retract that statement because you are lying. I may not believe in your god of the bible but that does not mean I don’t believe in a Creator; it just is not that charlatan of the bible.

Furthermore, you know nothing about me. You don’t know what I believe in at all. So really and truly the real atheist are the christians who believe in a false god. A mortal being is your god, skipper. Don’t get tie-up.

That is not true at all. Whether you are interpreting Scripture, Shelly or Sheridan or Lowdown, context is paramount; and you know it. They most certainly taught you that in Crumpton Street.

Context is extremely important in interpreting the Bible Sir.
e.g WHEN was the Olivet Discourse given. WHERE was it given. TO WHOM was it given. WHY was it given etc.
e.g In John 4 we are told Jesus must needs go through Samaria. Did he really have to go through Samaria? No. There were other routes and Jews generally avoided going through Samaria and took a much longer route.

The key word in the text is NEED. Jesus needed to go through Samaria for his encounter with the woman at the well!

Re I could post 50 scriptures of Jesus saying exactly when he will return to the earth.

Again you err, Sir! There is not even one single verse that says EXACTLY when he will return to the earth. He himself said in the Olivet Discourse, that no one knew the day or the hour; and he did this in a speech in which he was giving signs to look out for that would indicate that the great tribulation that would herald his return was about to occur.

You are certainly very discerning and perceptive for one so young, and obviously well taught in your “little church”.

Like you, I don’t expect “Mr Anonymous” to ask any questions, because like you, I believe he is dishonest, and does not really want to discuss the Bible. He just wants to distract and deter. But I am glad that you are reading and enjoying and learning somewhat from my posts

I agree with you that I write in plain clear English that can be understood –even by teenagers, and that the father of all lies does not want the spread of the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ to be propagated on BU, but will seek to run all good Bible teaching off BU by negating or denigrating or jabbing at every thing Zoe or I say.

I can not speak for Zoe, but I can assure you that GP will not let anyone run him of this blog. I can assure you that GP will at every opportunity teach the Word; in season and out of season as admonished in 1 Timothy 4:2.

I agree that the gainsayers on BU can not respond to me with respect to the clear sound teaching on 2 Peter 3, Jude 14&15 or my introductory notes on the Olivet Discourse, or engage me in any debate on the doctrine of the Second Coming, and that they really don’t know any Bible. I am now used to their ad hominem attacks, so there is nothing that they can throw at me that I cant handle.

I sincerely hope that you will continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as taught in I Peter 3:18

Just recieved this in an email

Any thoughts on the matter by the BU family?

Earlier this week the British Broadcasting Corporation, or BBC, appointed a Muslim as head of its religious programming department — a move being hailed as a “radical departure from broadcasting tradition.”

Aaqil Ahmed, former executive at Channel 4, is the new of Head of Religion and Ethics and Commissioning Editor for Religion TV, a position some call one of the most influential religious roles in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is concerned over the appointment of a Muslim, claiming it comes at a time when Christian leaders worry their faith is being marginalized and criticized by authorities. The Church of England notes that Muslims make up only three percent of the country’s population while nearly 70 percent claim to be Christian.

However, other religious leaders are taking a wait-and-see approach, calling Ahmed a “respected professional” and the most qualified person for the position. Some even claim that turning him down because of his faith, despite his credentials, would amount to discrimination.

  31. FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY

In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring,”Case dismissed!” The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, “Your honour, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.” The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, “But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant.” The lawyer said, “Your Honour, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists.”

The judge said, “The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, ‘The fool says in his heart, there is no God.’ Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.

You gotta love a Judge that knows his scripture!

3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

3:4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

  39. Margaret

I would not be surprised if you are another GP creation but there are so many holes in that story that it does not even worth a second glance. All I can say is, “You dangerous, smutty and dishonest christians”.

The first problem is that no judge can set a day for anybody; not even christians. The second problem is that the man could only claim discrimination on the grounds that the nature of respecting the holiday, impinges on him; even then, a judge cannot make people go to work.

The third problem is that the case is so far-fetched that any court would have difficulty hearing it much less give a judgment.

Fourth, there is no lawyer that will be allowed to speak after a judge gives ruling. It is just unheard of; It’s called contempt.

This is just another example of how dangerous Christians and Christianity are. Afetr seeing this story I went on search for it. Needless to say it is not reported anywhere, but I found this report on “TRUTH OR FICTION” web site; the equivalent of Snoopes:

HEADING: The Judge Who Called April Fool’s Day the “Atheist’s Holiday”- FICTION!

    Summary of the eRumor

An atheist allegedly filed a lawsuit in Florida objecting to Easter and Passover celebrations while atheists had no holiday to celebrate.

The judge dismisses the case and says the atheists do have their own holiday…April 1, April Fool’s Day.

    The Truth
This story is circulated with no specific such as when or where this alleged court case took place, the name of the atheist, or the name of the judge.

We’ve never found any substantiation for it.

Also, most ACLU cases objecting to religious activities are based on their alleged violation of the constitutional separation of church and state, not the absence of an atheist’s holiday.

    Last updated 1/14/04

Permit me to share a recently received email from the UK communication that I consider a masterpiece of dialogue that exposes the murderous ‘heart’ of Islam.

    ________________________________0______________

Last month, I attended a special training session relevant to my prison security job. There were three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim Faiths. Since I knew least about the Islamic Faith I was particularly interested in what the Imam had to say.

To be frank, the Imam gave an informative and authoritative at presentation concerning the basics of Islam, complete with a video. Then, after all three religious speakers had concluded their presentations, time was provided for participants to pose questions.

When it was my turn, I directed this question to the Imam: “Please, correct me if I’m wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a jihad [Holy War] against all infidels, and this war is highly motivated by the official Islamic teaching that by killing an infidel, a Muslim is assured of a place in heaven. If that is true, that in Islamic teaching there is such a command concerning infidels, please, define for me the Islamic understanding of who is an infidel?”

The Imam affirmed the truth of the Islamic teaching, and then in response to my request for a definition of ‘infidel’ he said, without hesitation, and simply, “An infidel is a Non-believer”.

His response led me to make sure I understood correctly, and so I addressed the Imam again: “Let me make sure I understand you correctly, for this is what I understand from you – Allah has commanded all Muslims to kill everyone who is not of the Islamic Faith, for by so doing every Muslim who murders a non-Muslim or unbeliever will be assured of a place in Paradise. Is that understanding as I have stated it correct?’

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of ‘a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.’

He sheepishly replied, ‘Yes, your understanding as stated is correct.’

The whole room was tense as I proceeded to make what seems a logically significant point for inter-Faith relationships and the pursuit of world peace or the concept of love and cooperation among all people, which is this: I have a real problem in seeing, for example, Pope Benedict XVI commanding all Catholics to kill all Muslims or protestants for such murder would guarantee them a place in heaven! Can you imagine that happening?”’

    The Imam was speechless!

I continued, ‘I also have a problem with being your ‘friend’ when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me! Can’t you see how personally threatening is your teaching? What must I do? Must I prefer your Allah who tells you to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with me?’

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam remained speechless.

Needless to say, the organizers and promoters of the
‘Diversification’ training seminar were not happy with this way of
dealing with the Islamic Imam and exposing the core truth of Islamic or Muslim beliefs.

But the chocking reality is that in the UK the Muslim advance continues to be phenomenal and sociologists are now pointing out that within 20 years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.K. to elect a Muslim government, complete with Sharia Law as prevails in Afghanistan and Darfur in Africa.

How frightening that few people in the U.K. are likely to see an article like this for fear of reprisals and media and political correctness madness

I didn’t think one had to be a complete idiot to be a christian but you’re making me reconsider this.

You’re all atheists anyhow. Atheists when it comes to the other thousand Gods that you just happen to not believe in.

When you figure out why you don’t believe in Zeus, Odin, Shiva, and the other thousands of Gods out there, you’ll figure out why I don’t believe in your God.

So tell me christians (you included Margaret, if you are capable of independent thought),

WHY DON’T YOU BELIEVE IN ALL THE OTHER GODS OUT THERE?

Spare me the essays and answer in one or two sentences if you can.

  45. I’ll pose the question again:

WHY DON’T YOU BELIEVE IN ALL THE OTHER GODS OUT THERE?

When you figure out why you don’t believe in the other Gods out there, you’ll figure out why I don’t believe in yours.

If you’re dumb enough to quote from God’s word to explain your belief in God, pause for a second and Google “circular reasoning”.

Another pitiful story – Lies and deceit. I am not a Muslim but you have gone into the realm of the ridiculous. Your fantasy has outdone you.

First thing: You see, The Talmud told the “Chosen People” to kill Gentiles too. It told them that it was OK to have sex with a Gentile child between 3 yrs and 10 yrs but they are not to have children from Gentiles.

The Talmud also told them that to kill a Gentile to get what is the Gentile’s is not against God and that whatever belongs to the Gentile was given by god and is therefore the property of the Chosen People.

Do you know why you are a christian? Yes, because you want to be among God’s Chosen People. You know who is a Gentile? Yes, anybody who is not a Jew and this is now stretched to mean, a non-believer. You said it yourself GP.

So what is this, the kettle calling the pot black?

You getting too much e-mails. I bet this is just another one of them. There is no Muslim who would not have been able to argue themselves out of that; far less being rendered speechless.

This is nothing more that the wickedness that is part of religion, but especially christianity; trying to convert people through lies and deceit rather than accept that its pillars have been severely cracked and broken for nearly a century.

  47. @GP, Grenville, Margaret…..Prior to September 11, 2001, when Muslims were accused of doing the ‘impossible’ were you afraid of Muslims? Can you name one Muslim that goes around the world today dropping bombs on innocent people because God put the bomb droppers’ oil under their (muslim’s) land? Who owns and controls the world’s printing presses and media houses that makes it possible to portray Muslims as enemies of the World today? Didn’t the Christian ‘God’ speak to George Bush and told him to wage the Mother of all Wars against Iraq and Afghanistan wasting more that 1 mil human lives? Who controls the economics of this world today? And you don’t have to look to your Bible for this!

    Hotep GP.

  48. Rohan, asked, “So tell me Christians (you included Margret, if you are capable of independent thought),”

“WHY DON’T YOU BELIEVE IN ALL THE OTHER GODS OUT THERE?”

Simple Rohan, because they DO NOT EXIST, they are Satan masquerading as these Pantheistic, Polytheistic, Animistic ‘false’ gods!

Secondly, NONE of these FALSE gods, have anything remotely close, to the Historic, Divine Revelation of the Bible, which is overwhelmingly confirmed by Scientific, Historic, Legal, and Archeological data and evidence.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ‘TRUE’ GOD, none of these others false gods EXIST!

  49. Oh dear Margaret

you are busy little bee! Not surprising you continue to bear false witness in spite of explicit instructions given in Exodus 20:1-17 . Please see the following link for the truth about your Islam story.

  50. Zoe,

are you sure that there are no other gods? If so why does the God of the Bible explicitly command his followers to put no other god before Him (see Exodus 20:1-17) if they didn’t exist?
