A majority of Barbadians continue to analyse US politics with a level of naiveté and hypocrisy that belies our touted level of education. The outcome of the 2024 US Election between candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris cannot be rationally discussed without a good understanding of the US political market.

Donald Trump’s popularity in the U.S. stems from a mix of political, cultural, and personal factors, which have maintained his appeal among many Americans, even years after his presidency:

  • Appeal to Discontent: Trump’s 2016 campaign capitalized on feelings of disillusionment with the political establishment, positioning himself as a “disruptor” who would challenge the status quo. Many supporters feel he understands their frustrations and voices their grievances. His message that is not from the Washington pool of politicians resonates with many who have become cynical and apathetic about politics.
  • Media Savvy: Trump has an undeniable talent for capturing media attention. Whether it’s through traditional news outlets, social media, or his own platform, Trump stays in the public eye. This visibility reinforces his influence and keeps him relevant.
  • Identity Politics: For some, Trump’s appeal is rooted in a vision of American identity that prioritizes traditional values and national pride. His policies on immigration, religion, and “America First” economics resonate with voters who feel left behind or culturally marginalized by globalist trends.
  • Polarization and Loyalty: The polarized nature of U.S. politics has created strong loyalty among Trump supporters, who often view attacks on him as attacks on themselves. This “us versus them” mentality deepens support and makes criticism of Trump seem like partisan attacks.
  • Mistrust of Mainstream Media and Government: Trump’s constant messaging about “fake news” and a “deep state” has cultivated a mistrust of traditional news sources and government agencies among his base. This distrust reinforces their loyalty, as they see Trump as an outsider combating a biased system.
  • Policy Achievements: Some supporters genuinely approve of Trump’s policy actions, such as tax cuts, deregulation, criminal justice reform, and his foreign policy moves. They feel these initiatives benefited the economy and American interests globally.

Trump’s popularity is what it is because he’s seen as more than just a political figure to his supporters; he’s a symbol of resistance, a voice for overlooked Americans, and a controversial but charismatic leader who keeps them engaged. One should not view politics anywhere through an emotional lens.

  3. Media is beginning to figure out the numbers!!!!!!

This is Georgia where Trump was accused of election interference in 2020!!

20% of independents have miraculously swung back to Trump!!!!

Overall, there are 14-20 million votes which miraculously disappeared this time around.

They were never there in 2020!!

  4. On Wednesday’s Mark Levin Show, Americans saved this country! You defeated a totalitarian force and an incompetent ruling class; you didn’t want the Ameritopia that was being imposed on us. President Trump will finally have the opportunity to flip things around and stop the chaos that is the White House. As a candidate, Kamala Harris is a fiction, a concoction, a mirage. She’s a creation of Washington insiders and special interests. Nobody was excited about her candidacy. Also, all cases against President Trump must either be dropped by prosecutors or dismissed by the relevant courts. For half a century, it has been the position of Democrat and Republican administrations, that the DOJ cannot indict a sitting president. The president is the head of the executive branch, and unelected prosecutors, juries, and judges cannot exercise a power that makes it impossible for a president to carry out his constitutional duties while defending his liberty and reputation in a courtroom. The issue has come up as to whether the same principles of non-prosecution would apply where the charges would be brought by a state or locality. After all, it has been argued, the DOJ’s jurisdiction is federal not state. Of course, that is simply wrong. Later, Jim Trusty calls in to explain what happens next with the Jack Smith, NY, and Georgia Trump cases.

  5. Finally, the most criminal regime ever on the face of earth has fittingly elected a felon as president, in its dying days.

And before the resident racist rejoins with obfuscations symptomatic of his racist ideals

We will add that tens of thousands of innocent Africans and others have rotted in American jails falsely convicted, even executed. None of them could ever become dog catcher, far less president.

Indeed, as a felon the American society continues to shun these persons. In other terms the prison sentences never end, not for Trump.

We expect him to now pardon himself! What wickedness!

Trump himself acted socially and wrongly to aid the conviction of four African-Americans forty years ago on rape charges. Men since found to be innocent and paid compensation for this Trump-aided conviction.

If this is not axiomatic of the racist nature of American society, culture, then what could this mean.

Is this not similar to choosing Barabus over your much vaunted Hesus!

  7. Worth saying about Kamala Harris. The familial contradictions we often see.

We’ve had occasion to read the work of Donald Harris, her father, a prominent economist of recent decades, from Stanford we seem to recall. A Jamaican!

Certainly a highly intelligent man by any measure. Certainly estranged from his biological daughter. Maybe, even on this metric, Kamala seemed intent on not being anything like him.

Maybe there’s a link between the genocide of Harris, this election debacle and Donald Harris.

  8. Donald Harris is alleged to have been a fascist.

If true, like father like daughter.

  9. …… sorry, Marxist, not fascist …. same left wing ideology.

  10. You know John, you never cease to disappoint. Where is the evidence a learned and respected Black man who was a Stanford professor was Marxist? Wasn’t this fake news ventilated in the media already and all conceded his ‘crime’ was that he critiqued traditional economic models which meant the capitalist system was included?

  11. Johnny!

Yes, that has been well said.

But is it not fascinating that the capitalists running the American economy, until recent decades, always hired top people who had some orientation towards Marxism.

    Why?

Because these people, so enlightened, knew that none of the precepts about capitalism were true. None!

Even to this day Karl Marx, as a classical economist, makes far more sense than neoliberalism, if economic justice matters.

    Also

Only a sick mind would continue to conflate Marxism and fascism even when that Johnny lives at a time where fascism is being deployed by the capitalists from Western capitals in Ukraine, for example, as an instrument for colonial expansion into Russian territory.

Lastly, these oft repeated memes of yours from the asswipe Sowell ignore more important issues like class collaboration.

Is it not time to bring a more considered approach to these affairs instead of repeating dated ignorance.

Indeed, Marx as a classical economist is more popular today than previously.

  12. Four years of Trump followed by eight years of JD Vance will destroy the decades of work of 2-3 generations of Marxist linked individuals and groups.

We can expect the Democrats and drive by media to leave no stone unturned to prevent the accession to the presidency of Donald Trump and undermine its progress through insurrections.

The next 2-3 months will set the tone.

We have witnessed the past 8 years of the “swamp” trying every conceivable insurrectionist tactic to rid itself of this existential threat to its existence.

Expect more of the same in this battle against good and evil.

    Who will win?

We already know if we care to look for the answers!!

We can also choose to remain in ignorance and observe the progress from our armchairs until the battle reaches our supposedly safe houses and consumes us.

…. or we can choose a side and when and how we are consumed.

The choice is ours, that’s how we were made.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It is only fascinating to persons who do not know history and choose to remain ignorant.

The penetration of the Marxist ideologies into universities can only produce candidates for hire who become “captains of industry” who are Marxist.

    No rocket science involved there.

  14. It is a vicious cycle but it can be broken.

Starve the universities of state funds.

Wonder where the 2 trillion Musk intends to cut will come from?

Might just bring down the cost to families of a university degree for their children and stop the indoctrination.

Stefanik dealt an early blow in congress which led to the removal of leaders from the top three universities.

Trump refers to her as a killer.

  15. Donald Trump is a pea- brain asshole who will do far worst for America and himself this time around than he did in his first four years.

    Vance is the same.

With all of this hype there are no working plans coming from either.

Do you think that the class collaborationists billionsires like Musk would ignore their interests for the wider good? You’ll have to be a fool!

These White hopes have already failed miserably. Now the world has to bear the torture of doing the time when it should have been Trump and Trump alone.

Trump cannot drain any swamp because he is the swamp!

Discourses about good and evil are best told to children.

  16. I wonder if John is not more than a little envious/jealous that he has never been and will never be a Stanford professor.

  17. I won’t worry too much about the supposed estrangement of Ms. Harris from her father.

A lot of young men are piss poor fathers. Like Trump the primary interest of many young fathers is “pussy grabbing” Many even perhaps most live to regret their poor fathering in their old age.

Sensible women, like Ms. Harris’ mother remove themselves and their children from such situations.

  18. @John November 7, 2024 at 9:02 am “Starve the universities of state funds.”

Only a unrepentant communist such as you would see the university money as state funds. As I tell my children and grand children all the time, the state/the government don’t wuk no way.

THE MONEY IS THE MONEY OF THE PEOPLE/THE TAX PAYERS.

    What state funds what.

Didn’t Musk not show up in Canada, a place where neither he Nor his mother had paid little Iittle any taxes and enter a Canadian university which was funded by taxpayers like me?

  19. Anyway I gotta go.

I need to do some yard work.

Pulling weeds and sweeping leaves is far more productive work that engaging with John.

  21. “Four years of Trump followed by eight years of JD Vance will destroy the decades of work of 2-3 generations of Marxist linked individuals and groups.”

The Old Fart of BU talks about the progressive policies and people of USA being Marxist which is a false equivalence based on the fallacy of flawed and false reasoning.

America is the wealthiest country in the world with massive wealth inequality and poverty. Marxism should not be a dirty word as Capitalism has failed due to greed of richest.

  25. Where are the 29 million missing votes?

The early voting in 2020 produced 110 million votes but the same period in 2024 produced 81 million!!

The total vote in 2020 was 158 million meaning 48 million votes appeared after early voting.

This time it looks like it will be in the 40 millions.

So where did the missing votes disappear to ….. assuming they even existed?!!

    Ahead of the curve again!!

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/where-are-the-20-million-missing-votes-dems-cling-to-false-hopes-of-huge-gap-between-biden-and-harris/ar-AA1tGAbd?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=DCTS&cvid=9091236928904c64b938d25aab00bb9d&ei=80

  26. Biden got 50 something million in 2020 and Trump got his 75 million!!

This time, Harris increased to 60 something Million and Trump fell a bit to 72/73 million.

The foolish Dems are searching for 20 million votes!!!!

They are only going to expose the 2020 election for what it was.

Complete idiots looking for any way to defeat Trump!!

2024 was just too big to rig.

  27. Trump takes over a dead empire. No longer is the racist, exceptional, language going to hold sway. Even Hollywood has lost its propaganda influence.

Their last gasp was to impose 15 times the highest number of sanctions ever on Russia. It was Iran which had about 15,000 such sanctions. More than Cuba, North Korea, et all.

This last quest for the survival of Whiteness was aimed at removing any semblance of peer competitors. This they wanted to start by Balkanizing Russia into a number of statelets.

Indeed, the reverse happened. For Russia has gained independence from Western systems and is now the fourth largest world economy as measured by PPP. Moreover, it’s the Western economies, especially in the European satraps which have markedly declined.

But Trump, a man who himself has declared bankruptcy more than once, takes over a country with 300 trillion in total debt, including 37 trillion in national debt, a broken back country which inner cities have largely not been redeveloped in 100 years.

Of course, there are other peer competitors who across the board cannot militarily or technologically can be defeated by Trump with it’s defeated military.

Indeed on all metrics, the Americans as leaders of the West can no longer dominate the world but Trump has fooled 71 million people, 4 million less than last time, that he can even begin to solve these problems.

He has said that he can solve the NATO-Russo War in as day. Even as Putin is rightly in no mood for compromise and is now totally distrustful of Western politicians.

And we may go on and on. But it must require the biggest of fools to believe that such a showman and racist as Trump could meet such a large historical moment.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I don’t need to say a word the Trump.

You, he and the Republicans are in total agreement, ad idem!!

The Republicans have already stopped in the supreme court the Democrats 2 attempts to give student loan forgiveness, a trillion or so of what they consider the state’s money.

Biden promised the students the state’s money in 2022 to buy their votes and prevent a red wave from giving republicans control of both houses. Alot of them believed him until the Republicans put a stop to it.

The Republicans went to the Supreme Court twice because the President can’t spend taxpayer money, congress, the elected representatives, of the people have to allow it.

Surprised you did not know this simple fact and I have to explain to you how close you and Trum are!!

  32. Go and do your research and educate yourself

  33. Next president after JD Vance could be this lady or her husband.

  34. Since you researched the votes for Mrs. Emhoff and found that 68,015,122 was the number it has risen by almost 1 million to 69,026,116. Problem is Trump has moved up too and is at 73,367,034.

Do you think Trump will crack the record he set in 2024?

May or may not but the longer it goes on the cleare it becomes that there are 10’s of millions of votes that have simply disappeared!!

At the moment, the total number of votes is 69,026,116 + 73,367,034 or ~ 142 million.

Do you think the number voting in 2024 is going to approach the number in 2020 which was ~158 million?

That is 16 million votes away!!

It will get closer but I suspect there will be a deficit of ~12 million or so.

Where did these folks disappear to?

    Did they ever exist?

    Questions starting to get asked!!

  35. Votes Year

    158,481,688 2020
    143,065,812 2024 to date

Which number is out of place?

    This one!!! 158,481,688, from 2020

  36. Analysing White trash mindset of Amerikkka

In 2020 the people came out and voted against Trump Chump

In 2024 they counted be bothered to vote for Biden policies again with Harris
he was an insincere peace maker who supported the cunting yid army

Let USA go to Hell is the world view

  37. Acknowledgement of land and people in the spirit of reconciliation

and recognise their continuing connection to the ancestoral lands,
waters and communities which remain sacred to Native Peoples.
I pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Native Indigenous Peoples and First Nations communities today.

i will happily give you clear arguments:

Trump’s transition team lead says RFK will not actually have a role at HHS, and will only have access to vaccine data, contrary to what was promoted publicly. Last time Trump was in office, he extensively deregulated GMO crops and plants. JD Vance, Vivek and Musk are deeply invested in biotech, including biotech “health” products like mRNA vaccines, which Trump supported last time via Op Warp Speed and has yet to issue a public apology for his Covid-era policies.

Speaking of those policies, Trump left Larry Fink design Covid-era fiscal policy, which saw the US print more $ than at any point in history and which began even before a pandemic was declared and it resulted in a massive transfer from Main Street to Wall Street. Trump campaigned in 2016 on regulating Wall Street and bringing back Glass Steagall but he further de-regulated Wall Street instead, helping to create the 2023 banking crisis that began w SVB.

Trump campaigned as “loving” WikiLeaks but then let Mike Pompeo plot to imprison and murder Assange and refused to pardon Assange but pardoned financial criminal Michael Milken instead. The guy responsible for going after Assange, Pompeo, is still in Trump’s good graces and won of his top aides is now in charge of picking staff for Trump’s new State Dept.

Trump didn’t start any new wars, but he didn’t need to because 5 were already happening, some of which he greatly expanded and he dropped more bombs than Obama, he had a bunch of neocons in his cabinet and tried to coup Venezuela (which would have exacerbated the current migrant crisis) and killed an Iranian general on a diplomatic mission in an obv attempt to goad Iran into war. This cycle, war w Iran has been signaled by Vance, Trump and Pompeo. I have plenty of reason to be skeptical because of the above track record. Everything I said comes w receipts

  40. The racist rhetoric temperature is on the rise and the man has not been inaugurated yet.

  41. Greenie

You have cited the creme de la creme of journalist.

However, anyone with a single brain cell should known that Trump is a merely con man, a showman,, a criminal, an idiot.

That the American people would elect him twice is a measure of a much deeper malaise.

  42. Racist rhetoric is a white thread woven in the tapestry of USA
It’s the same racist rhetoric that was on the rise in 2008 when a black man became PotUS
and when African-Americans were fighting for human rights in 50s 60s 70s 80s
and when African slaves were freed from bondage in 1865

USA is an immigrant country that does not want indigenous immigrants from Americas

  43. 74% of the electorate thought their country was going the wrong way.

It did not matter who the Democrats ran, Biden, Harris or King Tutankhamun, the republicans would have won, Trump or no Trump.

Once the Republicans had closed down the avenues the Democrats had to cheat as they had in 2020, the Democrats were toast.

It is just a matter of numbers.

California, New York, Illinois and other blue states are on the way to becoming red.

  44. Trump will not run again.

    Forget Trump.

In 4 years he is gone.

He will be 82 but age is not a barrier for him.

The man the Democrats/left wing need to be worried about is Elon Musk because he will be on the scene for perhaps another 30 years.

JD Vance is there possibly 12 years and the Republicans have a host of others who can carry on the fight after him once they stay focused.

By then Trump will be 90, even though he will probably be still kicking ass.

All the Democrats need to do is to accept no one wants their left-wing policies and to find a way of adopting more centrist thinking.

…. but most of all they need to become more authentic and in touch with the electorate they are appealing to for votes.

Rejecting them is a no brainer, no one needs any brain cells to do that.

Yet, 69 million Americans voted for them.

Time for the Democrats to wake up and smell the coffee and listen to the electorate ar they are toast.

  45. “74% of the electorate thought their country was going the wrong way.”

Haven’t you said that already a plethora of times?

75% of the population is white and 66% of which are racist shade of white
which equals ±50% are still racist and vote for the racist platform

Kamala fought for woman’s rights for birth control and abortion
but white woman were bitchy about 1st black woman PotUS
so they voted for a misogynist rapist pussy grabber instead
now some woman are saying they won’t have sex with men again until they get their rights back

  46. @John November 8, 2024 at 9:49 am “He will be 82 but age is not a barrier for him. By then Trump will be 90, even though he will probably be still kicking ass.”

    Unlikely.

Age is a barrier for all of us born of a woman.

More likely than not that you, he, Elon, Theil and all of the rest of them, and me too and will all be pushing up the daisies. Maybe Vance too.

Or as my old man would say “a yellow lime will drop, but sometimes a green lime drops too”

Vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.
