That Multi-racial Advertisement is Dangerous to Society

Submitted by Fatimah Farah Mohammed-Ali

This Trinidad and Tobago Republic Bank “Kern and Alana’s love story” advertisement is an attack on all Black women. Most of us are already struggling to survive as single mothers. Our Black men are often absent fathers in the home which is the main cause of so many of our sons, brothers and nephews being gunned down every day with their blood soiling the streets. Every day, two and three Black men are murdered like dogs. There are few Black role models for our young sons in the home.

And on top of that, you have our young black successful men leaving and making a new home with other women. The bank advertisement shows a fatherless young man living with his granny. He works hard making a backyard garden to eat food in the kitchen. He studies hard at university. He graduates. He buys a car. And after all that sacrifice and care with his grandmother, he gets a job and wants to settle. And who does he choose to marry? Certainly not a black woman. He is too ambitious and bright for that.

Where does this situation leave the Black woman? According to a 2018 U.S. survey, black mothers are four times more likely to be single and serve as the primary breadwinners of their home, as granny is depicted in the advertisement. The headline of a nbcnews item published in 2010 reads: “Blacks struggle with 72 percent unwed mothers rate”. The article begins: “Debate is growing within and outside the black community of how to address the rising rate of unwed mothers. Seventy-two percent of black babies are born to unwed mothers, government statistics say — and changing that is a complex issue.”

There is a clear link shown between family structure and delinquent or gang behaviour. Children who grow up in a single-parent household headed by the mother appear to be most at risk. This finding was published in an article entitled “Black Single Female-Headed Households and their Children’s Involvement in Gangs” published in 1992. These kinds of advertisements are setting a trend and promoting a model that is destructive to the black community with a negative impact on society with respect to an increase in crime by black youths.

  1. am wondering if some of them got a 6 for a 9 in the marriage department…..disappointment is a hell of thing….lol

i remember this couple got married over 40 years ago, complete with state registered documents and this and that….endless proof of this marriage….. the wife always had the wrong attitude and some people knew things she only found out over 40 YEARS LATER when the man passed away a few years ago…….

she was not married AT ALL……

and of course, with my luck, i had to be the one to break the news….suffice it to that after 4 decades and extreme embarrassment post death, she immediately DROPPED THE NAME she was so proud of when she found out it was never hers,,,,

  4. disappointment makes some people so bitter and hateful….they are more than happy to share that misery…..instead of moving to better…

btw…looks like the police are fed up with some conditions they are forced to endure for years on end and voicing it….

  5. Rub a dub dub three men in a tub, lol what was I supposed to think with that moniker, anyways I thought you didnt read me.
Theo we had ideas of retiring to barbados but i just spent a month there and it was …well boring I drank everyday just to have interaction with people, Unless you can start up a business , golf or get a fishing boat etc to fill in time ,sitting on the beach all day will wear on you. If you have a lot of family and friends that is another thing, you can be productive by visiting and helping them do things around their homes. I honestly couldnt wait to get back home to my old routine and my creature comforts which is probably boring as well.

  6. Again it seems like you enjoy spinning something black with a hole in it what other conclusion can someone come to. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Seinfeld. Sometimes you can protest too much

  7. You may not realize it but you are displaying all the symptoms of a Freudian cry for help if you feel the urge to roll naked in Donna s field of cucumbers get to black rock immediately

  8. You old farts and fartesses are hilarious! You simply cannot understand a woman who is different. I have ALWAYS BEEN WEIRD.

I simply decided to take a break from men to focus on my son and found that I like it. Good thing too because he had the habit of slapping any guy who hugged me, including the priest at the church door.

But yes, I was very disappointed in the orgasm department.

Now buzz off! There is action next door and I just found out that binoculars don’t have audio! Gotta get closer!

Look woman. Do you think that I go to every dog show and cat fight to which I am invited?

    Lol!

A friend of mine a religious marriage officer told me once that a couple came to him to be married and he told them “No. Go and find a magistrate to marry you,” Because soon they would need a magistrate to divorce them. The woman lived in America. I think that you were that woman. Miserable as yesterday’s stale pee.

  11. Weddings enough I’ve been invited and respectfully declined, because I could see the selfishness, the greed up front, and I knew that the marriages would last just about as long as a snowball in hell, so I did not waste my time or money attending.

Sent a nice gift and best wishes, lol! and stayed home.

    Why?

  13. @African Online Publishing Copyright ⓒ 2022. All Rights Reserved September 2, 2022 6:15 AM “have you ever heard of secret marriages where the witnesses are sworn to silence”

    Nope.

And what would be the point of swearing the witnesses to silence, when the record of the marriage is a PUBLIC WRITTEN document as demanded by the state???

And besides how does swearing any HUMAN being to silence guarantee that silence will be kept???

Answer these questions if you can.

  14. @African Online Publishing Copyright ⓒ 2022. All Rights Reserved September 2, 2022 6:15 AM “the MARRIAGE ITSELF IS BETWEEN TWO PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS”

There is no such thing as a private individual.

Within days of birth THE STATE DEMANDS A WRITTEN RECORD of your name, your gender, the names of your parents, your place of birth, the place where your parents lived at the time of your birth, the place of birth of your parents, the ages of your parents, whether you were a single birth or part of a multiple birth, and if part of a multiple birth whether you were born first, second, third and so forth, the name and qualification of the person who delivered you, whether doctor, midwife etc, in some places in the USA for example the state demands to know the race of your father and your mother.

So after all of this is placed in a written record within days of birth how then do idiots imagine themselves to be private individuals?

    There are no PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS.

  15. they call wunnah “useless eaters” that need depopulating, i call wunnah useless breathers….same difference…

Thankful that you are not the master of the air, water and food.

I know that you, the swibbly old man and your ilk envy our island paradise and long to depopulate Barbados so that you can have our beautiful island for you and yours.

Tell your pay masters that you and they will have to wait a while longer.

I ain’t going nowhere. Is here I am going to stay.

May you freeze in the cold this winter.

  17. Swearing to silence what!!!

How is that working out for Trumpie?

The average overall divorce rate in England and Wales is 33.3%, based on all marriages over the past 50+ years between 1964 to 2019.

Almost 50 percent of all marriages in the United States will end in divorce or separation. 7. Researchers estimate that 41 percent of all first marriages end in divorce.

In Canada 40% of marriages end in divorce.

.In Barbados for marriages lasting up to five years, the divorce rate is 24 per cent and if you go up to 10 years, the divorce rate is 47 per cent.

There goes your sanctity and what not. I really don’t know what % of marriages are sacred. But looking at the divorce data I expect that many people enter marriage to satisfy their sexual desires, for the convenience of getting somebody else to do the cooking and housekeeping, for money and material goods, a nicer house, a nicer car, a nicer neighborhood, access to another’s bank accounts and pension funds, to have “legitimate” children, social pressure from family, community, religious grouping.

And this overall 40% divorce rate does not include spouses who just go their separate ways without a formal divorce. It also does not include those who stay in the same house but live like cat and dog.

    SACRED???

  19. And we are not even going to mention, immigration/visa/green card/permanent residence/right to abode marriages.

Common-law marriage, also known as non-ceremonial marriage, sui iuris marriage, informal marriage, or marriage by habit and repute, is a legal framework where a couple may be considered married without having formally registered their relation as a civil or religious marriage.
