The blogmaster has two questions:

  1. On what basis was Maloney’s company Radical Investments Ltd selected to broker this transaction.
  2. Is the government out of pocket because of the errant transaction.
  3. How does being out of pocket USD6.7 million affect Maloney’s financial state to continue to do business.

The case is Radical Investments Ltd. v. Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC et al., case number 9:21-cv-81761, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida

Radical Investments Ltd. is a St Lucia registered company owned by Mark Maloney. 

He appears to have been swindled out of $6.7 millon USD from the governments of St Lucia, the Bahamas and Barbados who contributed money to buy COVID vaccines for their citizens.

Mark Maloney is deputy chair of the private sector group put together last March to fundraise and acquire more vaccines.

It is not clear what due dilligence Mr Maloney did before entering into this commercial arrangement with Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC. If you were looking to purchase pharmaceuticals would you do business with a company whith a name that connotes mechanical sexual services, and with an address at 21218 St Andrews Blvd Suite 318 that is a mailbox in a UPS store where 175 other fly by night companies also have their “headquarters”???

    Poor beleaguered Maloney dat smart Trini assisted by some Americans fleeced him down to his skivvies but never fear, don’t cry for him he has the ear and protection of any Party – BLP/DLP which forms the Government of Barbados.

    Whatever the US Courts decide Maloney will recoup his losses in some new deal with the powers that be, this is just a slight detour on the road to more riches.

    BTW The Deputy PM said Barbados didn’t advance any funds for this deal, which begs the question it must have been more than worthwhile for Maloney to advance his own funds( don’t know if he did) if he stood to recoup a megaton of cash from the Barbados Gov’t as a facilitator.

    It’s no secret, there is a decades old modus…not even a trend, too embedded….to purchase medical products and equipment, look for the cheapest suppliers to get it at one low price and then PAD the invoices and hit up the treasury for TENS OF MILLIONS….ALL OF THEM DO IT…the entire DBLP and think it;s cute…

    not a fella can say am lying, look at the state of QEH and it tells the WHOLE STORY..

    personally, if i believe minority thieves are involved in vaccine procurement…and not reputable pharmacuetical companies……would make it my business to travel to another country to get jabbed first…

    The profit may have been commensurate with the risk. If the GoB after a period of time makes him whole, then there truly was no risk for him… and this turns out to be just a money grab.

    I see somebody finally considered why the man would have used his own money.

    This is the problem with some of you. You scratch off like some minibus men and drive just as dangerously without due care and attention.

    If Maloney had managed to secure those vaccines in good time he could have charged Barbados an arm and a leg for them.

    Or he could have transformed his image from villain to hero and delayed his reward. (nuff government contracts and a silenced citizenry)

    Don’t know which he would choose.🙄

    Unfortunately for him, as I listened to the comprehensive report that PLT posted I concluded that he has rebranded as a joker.

    And our government did not fare much better.

    Good thing the scammers did not deliver or we might have been injecting placebos.

    I think it is fair to assume MM2, and partners if any, planned to make a healthy return.
    Yet in respect of future deals, is MM2 now tarnished goods? Is he a liability to play ball with, or does he still offer “more” than his competition?
    Since he has acted as a ‘front’ for a few over time, maybe the time has come for him to find his own ‘front’… 😆 😂

    Mark was the mark in a bait and switch fraud where people of Barbados needed medicines but were deemed too small to matter. The people of Barbados seem to lack mental clarity in their peer review of events and favour the scammers side.

    @ Northern, this matter is not dead. There is still no information about the Bahamas and more importantly, we do not know who the other principals are for Radical. Chastenet may not have said all that he knows. I have therefore not reached the conclusion that this matter is not over yet.

    I apologize if I said or suggested the matter was “over”.
    MM2 still has a lawsuit involving several, according to VIC Bahamas claim no knowledge, whether Chastenet knows or will admit to more, my only interest is that unlike Clearwater Bay which cost taxpayers $124M, and the home grown financing debacle, the direct financial costs (not personal nor political) to Barbadians appears minimal.

    @Northern, the reputational damage here is far greater here. Barbadians will have more reasons not to trust the government. The health of the nation was placed at risk for monetary gain. The clearwater scam did not impact on everyone but this does. The government has been named in a lawsuit relating to an illegal activity. The financial rules and due diligence were not used. So much for saying that tax payers money was not used…when I see the proof, I will believe it, not before. This friends and family thing has to stop and awarding contracts to campaign financers and elevating one man over the entire country. It is as though we are moving to a monarchy not a republic. I would prefer Lizzie any day, she lives far away and does not meddle in the internal affairs of Barbados. We need a good storm to wash away this mess! One thing for sure, the country cannot go on like this, by how many points will it sink on the Corruption Index?
    The court case may be an even bigger revelation. I heard that there is supposed to be some news coming out of St. Lucia tonight.

    Some comedian stated that Ms Mottley may be a one term government becauser Chastenet and the other guy in the Bahamas lost.Compared to those two Ms Mottley is head and shoulders above them as a politician.You do not win elections by default in Barbados.Therefore who will replace Ms Mottley and the BLP?     Care to explain what financial rules and due diligence were employed for CBL? Not ONE RH report in 10 years!!! You may conclude $124M doesn’t affect everybody, I cannot agree. It is A LOT of money.
    What health of the nation? Are you imagining how many vaccines $124M could have bought? 😆
    And if you think the vaccine manufacturers didn’t play games with their pricing, think again. Not one of them is a charity.

    A 1 second search produced this result. I have a sibling who worked for more than 40 years for the HHS living less than 100 miles from the company’s headquarters. I am sure that tens of thousands of Bajans many of whom worked for 30 and 40 years in health care live within the same 100 miles of the company. London where our High Commissioner resides is just 60 miles away. And NOBODY thought make a phone call to the company’s customer service line or to ask any of the tens of thousands of Bajan health professionals who reside in the area to have some questions asked by people on the ground?

    If nobody contacted the company it leaves me to wonder if perhaps those involved did not want to know.

    My dearly beloved departed mother, who didn’t go too far in school, being only a good 7th standard girl would have told me “pick up the phone and ask a question. Nobody can bite off your head because you asked a question.”
