Radical Investments Ltd. is a St Lucia registered company owned by Mark Maloney.
He appears to have been swindled out of $6.7 millon USD from the governments of St Lucia, the Bahamas and Barbados who contributed money to buy COVID vaccines for their citizens.

Atherley wants official inquiry into jab ‘scam’
Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley on Friday called for an official inquiry into what he has dubbed as “vaccinegate” Wednesday, Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw flatly refuted suggestions that Barbadian taxpayers dollars had been paid to the firm.
“I want to make it abundantly clear that no taxpayer resources have actually been expended or directly given

“Vaccinegate” could potentially smear not only the country’s reputation but the image of the Government and private sector interests “if not properly investigated and transparency and accuracy established”, he said.
The leader of the People’s Party for Democracy and Development cited several issues that should be addressed. He asked: “What, if any, were the specific arrangements between the Government of Barbados and Radical Investments? When were these arrangements put into effect and at what time were they brought to an end and on what basis was Radical Investments chosen as an agency in this attempted procurement exercise?”
The Opposition Leader also suggested that there were lingering concerns about Radical Investment’s track record in procuring medical and health-related supplies as well as the level and nature of communication between Radical Investment, AstraZeneca, the St Lucian and Bahamian governments and other interests named in the affair.

You are correct. This is about governance and how did permanent secretaries get dragged into this con/scam; why is the substantive minister saying he did not know of it; how come Maloney whose construction of an inferior roundabout allegedly causing the death of a young man ( Mottley) ; a man who was vilified by Mottley, end up in the business of purchasing vaccines for the country.

Donvilles situation was well known and publicized locally long before the US Court case started. If you recall on this same blog many asked why were charges not brought locally even before it reached an American court room.
This situation is different here, we have Maloney accusing the Florida company of taking his money and the Florida company saying we never got a cent and threatening a large counter suit. Hence I have read Maloney claim and I now wish to read the claim of the Florida company. If indeed the case is not thrown out this week as the judge has threatened to do.
Now if it is thrown out will the governments involved then bring a case against Maloney ? Probably not after all we is friends.

The government is saying that no tax money is involved and while that may be true, in fact we do not know whether this government or any other which follows will decide to reimburse the radicals at some time in the future.
Did not our government reimburse the clico policy holders? Some of that was MY tax money and yet I have never in my life received a cent of value from clico and yet my tax money was used to make good something I had never caused to make bad.
So both this BLP administration, AND the DLP, AND Atherley’s arty AND Grenville’s too must publicly promise to NEVER make good to this company, not by a direct payment, not via an inflated contract, not through a no-bid contract. I as a tax payer received ZERO benefit. I as a taxpayer do not want to have my money used to pay back for something I had no part in.
And “yes” even though I am old I made a tax payment to the Barbados Revenue Authority up to yesterday.
Sometimes I think that politicians believe that it is their money. We must constantly remind them, ALL of them, ALL parties that it is OUR money.
Anybody who gets caught up in an advance payment scam deserves to be robbed. These scams are not sophisticated at all. They are transparent. Somebody offering you something that is unavailable through established, legitimate sources, and you reaaly believe thier nonsense.

This is what I call ‘making him whole’.
Any smart businessman would try to extract a promise of reimbursement if the deal goes south. Needless to say, other scams may be necessary.

I recall that Donville went to the USA and was subsequently charged with money laundering. We then read about it locally.
Here Maloney went acting on behalf of the Barbados government and we knew nothing of it until the damn thing reached the court.
So to even suggest that we knew about Donville’s money laundering scheme any differently from how we learned about Maloney’s scam is not terribly accurate.
The simple truth like it or not, is that the government of Barbados acted carelessly and ended up in the centre of a vaccine scam. That’s already obvious from what we know so far. I don’t see if the case is thrown out or if Maloney’s is counter sued makes any difference in determining if as @David and @ Pacha suggest , our government got in itself involved with this nefarious enterprise.
What is even more embarrassing for the apologists of the Duopoly, is that a man who was accused of being over compensated in government housing contracts etc; can suddenly be acting on the government’s behalf on importing vaccines.
Like I said previously it’s not that we did not spend a cent . It’s the cent.
A few years ago an acquaintance whom I know since childhood got aught up in one of these. A “pretty lady” was involved. Of course he NEVER met the pretty lady in person, seeing only photos. The pretty lady did not exist at all. I mean what is stopping me from posting a photo of a Rihanna look-alike and claiming it is me? Nothing at all. By the time the “pretty lady” was finished with my acquaintance all the value had been sucked out of an inherited large west coast beach front property and sent to a “pretty lady” who claimed to be in Florida [of course he had no idea whether or not the “pretty lady” was in Florida or on Mars]to invest in a “joint partnership” a sure thing. The end result my acquaintance committed suicide, not knowing how he could live old, and ugly and penniless. I had advised him when he discussed it with me that is smelt like a 419 and that he should immediately report it to the police in the jurisdiction from which he believed the correspondence was coming. But he chose to believe an unknown person, and not me whom he had know all f the days of his live. But alas I could not and never did promise him great wealth, or great beauty or eternal youth. My acquaintance was educated at one of the most highly regarded in schools Barbados and had spent his life in management positions in the private sector.
