I wish to congratulate the BLP government on their handling of the Covid 19 in 2020.

Now that the various “versions” of the original Virus has reached here and the infection rate and deaths are spiralling out of control it is apparent to some, including me, that the government has no answers and is reacting and not pro-acting.

I understand the need for the current lockdown and we all know that 2 weeks is just a start and it will be needed for a lot longer.

However the shutting on the mini marts and way side vendors leaves a lot of us bewildered as the logic behind it. In the area that I live R&R convenience, Mikes Mini Mart, EZ mini Mart and all the others are closed. These were locally owned shops where the poor, and not so poor, could get a little credit until the NIS cheque arrives, when the Post Office reopens, and walk a short distance home in the fresh air.

Now these people have to get an occasional bus to Massy in Oistins, and mix with those in the shop and be infected not only by the current shoppers but those who were there one or two hours ago. Are you telling us that it is safer for a person, who does not have a car, to catch a ZR and travel to Oistins to get a few items than to visit the corner shop?

The word that I have heard from more than one person is that in the last shut down the Major Supermarkets lost a lot of revenue because people switched to minimarts and a lot of way side vendors started. Is the way to make sure that the large foreign owned companies got more of the pie? It certainly seems so.

You have closed them on weekends so their overall sales will increase and their overheads will decrease. Bajans have been very good in following the new rules, and rightfully so, but there is a growing undercurrent of frustration and if the government is not careful there will be mass disobedience. This will hurt everyone. I hope that you can take a pause and consider the additional hardships you are causing a lot of Barbadians.

Thank you. I am a proud Bajan and supporter of the BL&P in the last few elections.

maybe you could beg your buddy Charles Herbert for a ride? I hear that big old boat was impounded ‘for evidence’ and has not been at its accustomed mooring in Carlisle Bay. It’s about time for it to be careened again, the old wood requires frequent maintenance, and Grenada is the spot they use. Imagine you could get a ride on a Yacht!!! Probably for free.

  3. In all seriousness as educated barbadian are you guys not embarrassed that aa tiny spice island with limited resources can closed their borders for 2 months and not let the economic fall out from tourist arrivals stop them from putting the safety of their citizens first
Meanwhile here in Barbados infections rises and death takes a stronghold and the borders remain open

What a waste of sea miles and an arrant display of monkey justice!

Free the human ‘controlling director’ but impound the innocent craft in a pen not even a land turtle would want to inhabit.

Just another case of Two Barbadoes or even turning out to be three ;a true representation of the three prongs of ‘thorns’ on the broken trident.

It would be interesting to see if similar action would have been taken against any of those ecstasy carrying foreign-owned pleasure craft moored at Port St. Charles.

wuh is all this talk about cracking down…..ah hope they don’t plan to CRACK DOWN on the majority Black population for being concerned, that’s defintiely a violation of human rights…not to mention it’s the same BLACK POPULATION they gotta BEG FOR VOTES…in 2023…

when is that again, oh, 2 years and 3 months…only slaves/yardfowls have short memories..

so let’s hope that’s just some busy body trying to create mischief for Mia…..and not some delusion..

just get on with the business of saving lives….making sure the Black population RISE FROM THIS to SELF-EMPOWERMENT, SELF-AUTONOMY, true INDEPENDENCE…and IGNORE everything else…

  8. The Doc news doesnt sound encouraging
Mention of clusters in communities and i6 family members infected
    Boy yuh tell yuh
Hope barbadians dont expect this govt to solve this problem anytime soon
Global response for the delivery of vaccine to small islands going to at a snail pace as manufactures finding it hard to keep up with demand

  9. Not surprising that officials are having with Contact tracing
Look at that govt officials are now catching up with the deadly human effects in relevance to contact tracing
Doc said that there were times when the RBPF was involved in helping them to find people who had given COVID information relevant to themselvesves but govt could not find them
This is what is called a snowball affect

What do you expect when you lock people up in their own house for a whole month. They will get a full dose of the virus over and over whereas before lockdown they would have been outside.

These public heath idiots living in their big house with only 2 or 3 people don’t understand how the rest of people not in the heights and terraces live and interact

  11. @NO
As you noted the snow- birds and others decamped to Florida where they can get theirs long before Ford/Trudeau gives the OK.
The trips to NWT and Dubai proved costly for the CEO’s especially the owner of the Integral House.

How’s the sap flowing up your way? I buy my syrup from a Quebecer who journeys to these parts every summer, and I’ll have to get in line for the needle like most of us in the GTA but you will probably get yours sooner especially if you are located in some pricey part of Muskoka 😊

  12. CA
All.knows that there are households in barbados that live in small confined areas
That is a reality yet govt could not see ahead of time these problems unfolding which could affect entire communities
Now doc is trying his best to schooled barbadians on such matters
Listen to this Doc said that contact tracing has been meant with many problems such as people giving wrong phone numbers ir phones disconnected
Really all these problems combined exposes govt officials as naive or just did not understand the psychological impact of the virus as relevant to human behaviour

I can’t believe after all this time and research out there on effective early treatments, the best they can do to manage this thing is to contact trace and vaccinate. What happened to treating early with medication or are they calling isolation a treatment now?

For goodness sake, Ivermectin is working as a treatment and all they doing is wasting time and burning through money with all this nonsense they doing.

The chickens have finally come home to roost with our failed education system.

  15. Two members of the monitoring Unit tested positive

After hearing this not so good news
Wunna still think that Mia leadership on this deadly disease was stellar
Barbados is now at a point that when cluster increases the more community spread increases
Won’t be surprised if those long lines of people already have the virus which means transmission is highly possible on those lines

  16. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

i hope these types of articles did not spark the “cracking down” rumors, am going to stupidly as usual give Mia the benefit of the doubt and say it’s some idiot in her cabinet mouth that or some mischief maker out to get her….ya done know i get pissed off when i give people the benefit of a doubt and then find out i shouldn’t have…and asses like wickum definitely need to be muzzled.

Regarding the new goalpost of vaccine “herd Immunity” in exchange for having our basic human rights back, since when did the presence of an infectious disease create cause to disregard bodily autonomy?

Since the media decided to cause a panic about COVID-19 in particular? Are individuals also obligated to take every single other vaccine for every single other infectious disease based on state or group pressure?

Statistically, COVID-19 is a relatively high risk to a fraction of the population – those with comorbidites.

The reasonable response is to allow those with comorbidites, or anyone who is fearful, the choice to be vaccinated to reduce their likelihood of developing severe complications. But we have jumped into this mass psychosis of disproptionate response. It has become irrational and almost cult-like. We are being required to think, feel and behave the same way.

Why must we demand that everyone, regardless of their actual personal risk assessment, be cowed into conformity with the group?.”

  18. Families share the air in their houses so we could say that its all about one member coming home with it and infecting the others.

    But there is another way!!!!

A meal of vegetables is prepared and washed in water in which the virus is present.

All don’t necessarily get it but it just needs one to get it and then it will spread.

So, the question is where do these families live?

Is their water supplied from the desal plant?

Are other families in the neighbourhood getting it too?

This thing is a lot easier to solve if we ask the right questions!!

  19. If it is tracked to the desal plant or any other water source, just lock it down.

They are lost without some double-blind placebo controlled study telling them what to do. They are taking to long to respond to things they should already know.

COVID is not cholera. COVID is an airborne respiratory virus spread by either
    1) Coughing, sneezing and talking in front people faces or
    2) Spending a long time in indoor environments with poor ventilation with or without a mask.

What govt is now realizing and presenting in the afternoon press conferences were said here on BU by one Mariposa months ago
Back then Mariposa was called an alarmists
Govt doesn’t have enough fingers and toes to count the many inside and outside officials like WHO and PAHO who should have alerted govt on the impact of the many hidden problems that come along with this virus
Presently govt officials are being stressed and bogged down mentally to find newer and better solutions
When all it would have taken was for PM to close off the borders from hots spots for a while
Personally i see barbados climbing an up hill battle like what is facing Jamaica now

Nobody is forcing anybody to be vaccinated.

What is happening now is that Barbados being a small place everybody now knows somebody who has had Covid, so everybody now knows that the Covid deniers are LIARS. We are almost at the point where everybody knows somebody who has died of Covid, so for most people Covid has now become real-real. And now most people know that the vaccine deniers are LIARS.

People are rushing to be vaccinated, not because anybody is forcing them, not because anybody is infringing on their rights, but because they don’t want to die just like the woman or man who used to work with them, or who went to school with them, or who is their in-law, or who is their neighbor or church member.

For the hard-ears people Covid19 is now real-real.

And here is a saying from my old man, “Nobody wants to be old, and nobody wants to die young either”

    Wha’ to do?

The people rushing for the vaccine are making the choice to be old, as that is much better than dying young.

Locking down was obsolete after Dr. Zelenko came out with his treatment protocol in March/April. https://www.vladimirzelenkomd.com/

Closing borders and lockdowns is like when you were a child, did something wrong and run outside laughing cause gran gran cannot catch you. But you already know how this story ends, gran gran will have the final laugh when you think she forget you and you come back home to eat or sleep. Licks now or later but you guaranteed to get licks in the end.

Unless we can isolate Barbados for 3 years, the only way out is with a cheap effective treatment protocol.

“But we know for example the Polio Virus is spread by fecal matter in the water and it infects!!”
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So too do the bacterium cholera and certain strains of E-coli.

Shouldn’t you therefore be equally concerned that the HIV can also be transmitted to ‘innocent persons’ through the same “fecal matter” ‘disposed’ in the water by infected persons?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, ask google this question and see what its answer is!!

How long can HIV survive in water?
How long does HIV live outside the body in water? One older study showed that after 1 to 2 hours in tap water, only 10 percent of the HIV virus was still active. After 8 hours, only 0.1 percent was active. This shows that HIV doesn’t survive long when exposed to water.

  33. Then look at polio.

It can survive for a few weeks.

    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/poliomyelitis/facts

    Transmission
Humans are the only known reservoir of polio virus.
The virus is transmitted via droplets or aerosols from the throat and by faecal contamination of hands, utensils, food and water. The majority of transmissions occur through person-to-person contact via the faeco-oral route, although the oro-oral route is also possible.
The incubation period is approximately 7—10 days (range 4–35 days) and about 24% of infected individuals develop clinical symptoms including fever, headache and sore throat.
Infected persons are most infectious from 7 to 10 days before and after the onset of symptoms. However, poliovirus is excreted in the stools for up to six weeks.
Immunodeficient patients can, in rare cases, become asymptomatic chronic carriers of WPV and VDPV.
Poliovirus can survive at room temperature for a few weeks. Soil, sewage and infected water have been shown to harbour the virus.
All unimmunised persons are susceptible to the infection. Infants in the first six months may have some protection from passively transferred maternal immunity. Children younger than five years are at highest risk.
Poliovirus is highly infectious, with sero-conversion rates of 90–100% among household contacts.

  34. Then there is the virus that causes COVID-19!!

    How long can it survive?

Scientists still figuring out this one but if its presence can be detected in sewage a week before a person exhibits symptoms then it looks like it will be longer lived than HIV outside of the body.

  42. This is his life story.
    ·
“I’m blown by the fact that the last Black American to be legally enslaved, Sylvester Magee, died in 1971. (1841-1971) the man lived for 130 years! This means if you’re 48 or older, you lived at the same time as slaves. Slavery wasn’t that long ago. Let’s stop pretending it was.
Sylvester Magee may have been the last living slave in America, and the oldest person who ever lived! Born a slave in North Carolina, he was the son of slaves named Ephraim and Jeanette, who worked on the J.J. Shanks plantation. At age 19, just before the Civil War, Sylvester was purchased from a slave market at Enterprise, Mississippi by Hugh Magee, whose surname Sylvester eventually adopted. Hugh Magee owned the Lone Star Plantation in Covington County, Mississippi. One source indicated that Magee was in time sold by Magee to Victory Steen, who operated a plantation near Florence, Mississippi. Sylvester eventually ran away from the Steen plantation and joined the ranks of the Union Army. Magee obtained his freedom after the fall of Vicksburg and served with Union troops. By the mid-1960s, due to his advanced age, Sylvester Magee became nationally famous. On his 124th birthday the citizens of Collins, Mississippi threw him a party and Magee was sent a letter of congratulations from President Lyndon Johnson. Governor Paul Johnson even declared the day « Sylvester Magee Day. » Magee took his first flight to New York for a television appearance and later flew to Philadelphia to appear on the Mike Douglas Show. He appeared in the March 1967 issue of Jet magazine, and was noted by President Richard Nixon as probably the oldest citizen of the United States, having been identified as the nation’s oldest living person by a life insurance company. When asked why he had lived so long, he simply stated that the Lord had been good to him. Reportedly, his last words were « Lord have mercy. » Sylvester Magee was likely the last living human being who possessed any firsthand memory of the trials of the Civil War or institutionalized slavery. #bhm”

Before I ‘say’ you’re misleading BU, perhaps you may want to present the source of your information so we could probably discuss this issue further.

    From what I’ve read:

(1). GND is expecting a MORE active tourism sector from April 2021 and one of the reasons given is “because commercial passenger flights from the United Kingdom are set to coincide with the reopening of Sandals and other properties in the accommodation sector.”

(2). GND’s borders were NOT closed in December 2020. The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced the suspension of all passenger air traffic between Grenada and the UK, effective 10pm on Sunday, December 20, 2020, until further notice, due to the new variant strain of COVID-19 in that country.

However, international travel to and from other countries were to CONTINUE, under the enforcement of strict entry requirements and quarantine measures for travelers.

@ManyPoser the treacherous clown. Grenada had reopened its borders since Oct 2020. It had only forced Sandals to close in Mid December. There was a travel ban imposed to and from the UK ONLY from 22nd December until Feb 1st. Travel from other countries was allowed with restrictions.

    As of March 1st:-
    Dominica:- population=approx 71,000; total cases = 148; deaths=0
    St Kitts:- population~ 52,000; total cases = 40, deaths = 0
    Grenada:- population=111,000; total cases= 148 deaths 1
    Antigua:- population ~ 97,000, total cases = 730 deaths 14
    St Vincent:- population ~ 110,000 total cases 1418, deaths 6;
    Barbados:- population ~ 287,000; total cases = 3115; deaths = 36
