I wish to congratulate the BLP government on their handling of the Covid 19 in 2020.

Now that the various “versions” of the original Virus has reached here and the infection rate and deaths are spiralling out of control it is apparent to some, including me, that the government has no answers and is reacting and not pro-acting.

I understand the need for the current lockdown and we all know that 2 weeks is just a start and it will be needed for a lot longer.

However the shutting on the mini marts and way side vendors leaves a lot of us bewildered as the logic behind it. In the area that I live R&R convenience, Mikes Mini Mart, EZ mini Mart and all the others are closed. These were locally owned shops where the poor, and not so poor, could get a little credit until the NIS cheque arrives, when the Post Office reopens, and walk a short distance home in the fresh air.

Now these people have to get an occasional bus to Massy in Oistins, and mix with those in the shop and be infected not only by the current shoppers but those who were there one or two hours ago. Are you telling us that it is safer for a person, who does not have a car, to catch a ZR and travel to Oistins to get a few items than to visit the corner shop?

The word that I have heard from more than one person is that in the last shut down the Major Supermarkets lost a lot of revenue because people switched to minimarts and a lot of way side vendors started. Is the way to make sure that the large foreign owned companies got more of the pie? It certainly seems so.

You have closed them on weekends so their overall sales will increase and their overheads will decrease. Bajans have been very good in following the new rules, and rightfully so, but there is a growing undercurrent of frustration and if the government is not careful there will be mass disobedience. This will hurt everyone. I hope that you can take a pause and consider the additional hardships you are causing a lot of Barbadians.

    Ends up in the sewage, treated in some cases in septic tanks!!

    Gee.
    (1) There is little evidence that the virus can survive in the water. Not a source of infection.

    (2) the bat meat would have the live virus and therefore be infectious

    (3) testing the wastewater is to detect if the virus is already in an area. It is like a canary in a coal mine.

    The bats did not work. You no longer mentioning desal water.

    Game over.

    Detection in the wastewater indicates the presence in the ‘catchment’ area.

    I believe the instructions are that you get tested if you have symptoms. Has nothing to do with detection in wastewater. Hand wash, wear masks social distance and isolate until you get the results or symptoms resolves.

    You are blurring facts to win an argument. Your mention of wastewater is a red herring.

Maybe 3x as long? It may still be an issue?/9/11 and its effects lasted from Sept 2001 to Dec 2006. By 2007 the effects of the global meltdown were being felt, this intensified thru 08-10, and the tail of it wagged until late 2017. We had a short breather, followed by a default and hope, then Covid appeared early in 2020. It can be expected to affect the economy until 2028. Pacha will have to tell you what might change that before 2028.

    So how many people do we know of who have been infected directly from eating or preparing bat meat?

    Zero.

    It is just a theory, not a fact!!

    A could be.

    But we know for example the Polio Virus is spread by fecal matter in the water and it infects!!

    Singapore as has been pointed out uses 3 steps to ensure no virus gets into the drinking water.

    Even if the virus is present in the wastewater used for treatment and production of drinking water, little if any is going to get out.

    That’s the technology we need.

    The main reason in such a jurisdiction for testing wastewater is to confirm or not the presence of any infected persons in a catchment area who can spread the virus the airborne way.

    Because Singapore collects literally every drop of sewage to recycle, the presence of the virus at any point in the sewage lines can be traced back to source.

    We don’t have that tracing facility.

    Singapore’s water production facilities are tightly controlled and there is little if any virus getting into the drinking water to infect and get spread the airborne way.

    Ultimately, they will be close to virus free once they control the airborne spread and drive its occurrences down towards zero.

    The virus in the waste water will disappear as it can’t go anywhere and will die.

    That’s how to get rid of it.

    Here are Singapore’s cases I posted before.

    They begun and were spread by airborne infection until that mode was knocked out and the virus was present if at all in drinking water in minute quantities so the chances of infection were close to zero.

    Hence the numbers, hence close to zero cases..

    Get it audited by people who are in the business.

    the effect on the economy is mostly self-inflicted and they won’t want to AFFECT any changes as long as they can PIMP LOANS….add to the long term misery and boast about how much reserves they got.

    It is at times such as these that some of us on BU miss Jeff Cumberbatch. Of the 1000 odd lawyers practising in Barbados, can someone plse go through the emergency legislation and explain it in simple terms what it is and how responsibilities are distributed?
    Who are the members of the Emergency Management Advisory Council, including the director, as provided for under the legislation. Who is the minister in charge?
    There is also the matter that the attorney general has tried to avoid: if the family court has issued a visitation order, and this order is contradicted by the emergency powers, which is the superior law?
    We are all familiar with the CoVid communication task force, but what is its legal status?

    So much so that i am requesting that the PM and the minister of Health in that country come to Barbados and instruct the Supreme leader PM and the health minister as to what policies are crucial in closing the border without experiencing harmful economic impact on the economy
    Also to the health minister on protecting the safety of citizens without reinforcing more mental impact on them cause by lockdowns and jail time

One went to the NWT, another to Dubai, meanwhile lesser mortals, have gone to Florida, Turks & Caicos and wherever vaccinations are being widely dispersed, or where they can buy one. Did you expect anything else? Several of the better known Private clinics, like those who service the Bay St Boys and Girls Club, are under pressure to “remind them why they pay $xxxxx/yr”.     New information coming from the continent….some African countries require yellow fever vaccines…ONLY if people are coming from a country that has yellow fever problems. People coming from the Caribbean and US have no such problem, so therefore don’t need the vaccine….in some countries….but always check for changes.

    Ghana may still require it regardless.
