This video raised its ugly rh head in Barbados last evening.

The more discerning among us are aware racism and bigotry are unwelcome human characteristics present everywhere humans exist. We accept human beings are imperfect creatures. However, it does not mean when these unsavoury qualities show its ugly head that civil society should not promote relevant policies and other measures as requires to nurture tolerance and educate fellow citizens in the interest of growing a wholesome society.

The mouthings from the person in the video is the result of many things which Barbadians have known and been tardy to addressing over the years. Crypto racism has been discussed often enough in this forum- for years. It must be addressed in a structured way. Spouting balderdash is easy for some but it will take much more to excoriate the scourge of racism and bigotry that has metastasize over centuries.

    And yes, Lawson, the crude street comments only recently stopped coming my way. One of the benefits of no longer being a spring chicken.

    I remember my young son fuming at one man’s crude comments. I have quick reflexes and tightened my grip on his hand in time to stop the poor little boy from flying at the man.

    But here’s another story for you. Many years ago I was propositioned by a black Bajan beach bum. I looked at him scornfully and it angered him.

    “I don’t care nothing bout you! I does deal wid white women!” he proclaimed.

    I was thankful the white women were coming all the way from Canada, the US and the UK to service my rejects! It made life much safer for me!

    Permit me just one more story. There is a piece of smooth dark chocolate by the name of Rudy Boyce of Red Red Wine fame. An international standard voice if ever I heard one. Used to perform in the hotel circuit. Seems his good looks and smooth baritone were too much for a white tourist women to resist.

    To cut a long story short, when the woman’s husband caught them she cried, “Rape!”

    In true “To Kill a Mockingbird” style, Rudy Boyce was convicted and sentenced to several years in prison.

    But the hotel workers knew the truth!

    I am half way through watching the National documentary film series City So Real about Chicago which shows the political brawling for Mayor in 2019, Police Shooting of Laqaun McDonald trial and 2020 Covid-19 Summer. It seems Obama was very much a Chicagoan political fighter.

    I revisited Mr Corbin’s video a second time. It made for depressing viewing.

    In the UK, back in the days, we would often be told to go back to where we came from. Although the language used then was a little more animated!

    How strange that Mr Corbin should echo similar comments. Surely he would be familiar with the history of the country and how Africans were brought to the island.

    Mr Corbin’s views are shared by the vast majority of minority communities irrespective of the year their ancestors arrived on the island. It’s a well known fact that these communities have offered bribes to various government officials over the years to facilitate nefarious opportunistic enterprises. We have seen a number of bogus advertised vacancies which all know are schemes to bring in family members, friends and criminals. We have also seen a dangerous increase in the number of minority Justice of Peace members.

    It is evident that since independence our numerous governments have done little to create a prosperous environment for Barbados majority population.

    Let me spell it out to you. Barbados minority communities are a direct threat to Barbados majority community. They are predatory in nature. Barbados is an apartheid state. We have a minority community who are deeply adversarial towards the majority population.

    I know that Hal has often stated that blacks and whites should work in unison, however this is impossible.

    How does this government propose to resolve this problem? Prior to covid-19, the country was in trouble. Factor in covid-19, this government has become badly exposed. No skilful PR will assist them. With the single club in the government’s golf bag – tourism – totally destroyed; the majority population are aware that their government has nothing else to fall back on. Perhaps the majority population will mobilise themselves and work out their own salvation. This government may soon become obsolete.

    Let me begin by stating that young girls should be given an opportunity to blossom into young women (free from the interference of old back men).

    In one of your postd, you highlighted the flawed thinking of sex tourists. They would be outraged at comments directed towards their daughters, but would willingly travel to approach the underage daughters of others.

    Lawson took a firm stance against the Bajan woman who had her buttocks groped, but it appears he would oppose anyone (especially a black Barbadian) grabbing his dear spouse’s buttocks.

    A double standard? A sick standard? Racism?

    What would make a Barbadian feel comfortable to utter those words in the presence of another?

    It appears that we would like to make the word “Corbins” synonymous with racism, but this only papering over a wound. At no time did we attempt to do the same with the word Knox.

    But wordsmithing is not the answer. We have to find a way to identify and change the thinking of all ‘Corbins and Knoxes’ .

    We have to figure out what makes them so bold? Part of the blame may lie with us….

    can’t change that toxic thinking, that’s the low class slave patrol descendants, they will never change….the people have to get them off the island and away from Black people…all racists must be exiled…it’s the only way to free the population..

    We can speak of an unequal justice system, but this system may just be a reflection of the ugly sides of us.

    A successful fight against racism in Barbados cannot be conducted if we act against one person or one event at a time.

    That is the easy answer, the low hanging fruit, the spontaneous outrage followed by a deep slumber. We spoke our piece and made it known that we opposed that instance of racism, but you and I know that we ignored the blasted elephant in the room…. Our political leaders who refuse to transform the society.

    What makes a businessman so bold that he can utter these words and yet expect to continue to his business. Has he factored in that your momentary response would be followed by permanent amnesia? A short lean period of business followed by business as usual?

    I am late to the discussion, so please help me with this… Did any of your black political leaders have the courage to denounce the man? A yes or no is adequate.

    Tsln your statement about prior to covid this country was in trouble.Tell us where is the evidence to support this ? I know you do not live in Barbados but since May 2018 the economy showed signs of picking back up with proper leadership eg buses and garbage trucks were bought improving the lives of many , the south coast issue was improved, investment started to pick up.All of this proves we were getting back to where we were before the lost decade and then covid struck.I challenge you to refute any thing i have stated.Then you state that covid has left us exposed.Which country has not been exposed by covid including yours?Perhaps you wanted the ex PM to be still in charge whereby in my voew our ass would have been grass with his level of indecisiveness.Perhaps that is what you and the overseas gloomers wanted.As far as this topic is concerned i agree that Mr Corbin,s behaviour was unacceptable and that he should feel the full weight of the law.His business should also be boycotted but i am with John A on this, in that, all whites should not be painted with the same brush.For certain , not jumping on any bandwagon with crazy ass Waru aka Mrs Mitchell as she lives for these situations.

    The fact is, had our government not initiated debt restructuring in 2018, we would be broke in the middle of the pandemic – with unforeseeable consequences like a free-falling BBD. We wouldn’t even have the money for COVID19 test kits and vaccine.

    Of course, this does not mean that our government should not reform the civil service.We also need to think about the harshest penalties for civil servants who are personally responsible for the current health emergency. I am thinking in particular of those public servants who, as sex workers on the West Coast and participants of the bus crawl, triggered the rise in COVID19 cases in the first place. Our DDP must charge these persons with manslaughter. There is no question about that.

    “No-one needs them!”

    We have heard arguments about losing a few slave jobs, supply chains, no access to equipment to fix computerized cars, killing the goose that lays the golden egg and all manner of backward minded brainwashing messaging.

    But this is all meant to dent our confidence and make us falter. This is a tactic to keep us from even trying.

    Stop crying over spilt milk. The IMF-as long as Barbados is under its management- will never allow the political clowns to engage in such financial folly.

    As a matter of fact, the IMF intends to strip the GoB of all its commercial interests which can be better served by private enterprise.

    Collision on ABC Highway leaves cyclist dead

    Police in the Southern Division are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision, which occurred just after 7 this morning along the Adams section of the ABC Highway at its junction with Providence Road, Christ Church.

    Involved was a SUV motor vehicle and a pedal cyclist.

    The pedal cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.

    Police say investigations are ongoing.

    They are asking anyone who may have witnessed or have knowledge of this serious incident to contact police emergency at 211, District B station at 437 4311, Oistins station at 418 2612 or Crime Stoppers 1800 8477 (TIPS). to read:
