This video raised its ugly rh head in Barbados last evening.

The more discerning among us are aware racism and bigotry are unwelcome human characteristics present everywhere humans exist. We accept human beings are imperfect creatures. However, it does not mean when these unsavoury qualities show its ugly head that civil society should not promote relevant policies and other measures as requires to nurture tolerance and educate fellow citizens in the interest of growing a wholesome society.

The mouthings from the person in the video is the result of many things which Barbadians have known and been tardy to addressing over the years. Crypto racism has been discussed often enough in this forum- for years. It must be addressed in a structured way. Spouting balderdash is easy for some but it will take much more to excoriate the scourge of racism and bigotry that has metastasize over centuries.

    I accept Clifford’s Corbin explanation for his expletive and racially charged soliloquy.

    Over a number of centuries black countries have been penetrated and subjected to tremendous abuse by three racial groups: Arabs, Europeans and Asians (predominantly of Indian descent).

    From Zanzibar, now a part of Tanzania, Kenya, Jamaica, Saudi Arabia, Barbados, South Africa, et al. we have seen a pattern where these three groups have worked together to ensure that the majority black populations remain indebted and impoverished.

    Since the mid-fifties numerous British governments of all persuasion have created a hostile environment that has singled out those of Caribbean descent. This hostile environment towards blacks is common place in all Arab countries and is replicated in India and even in UK cities where blacks and Indians and Pakistanis share the same neighborhood.

    Let’s stop using this phrase crypto racism and making statements, such as the country needs to have a discussion on race. I believe if a political party was formed in Barbados that pledged to create a hostile environment against the three mentioned groups; then they would certainly have my vote.

    The ninty percent black Barbados population does not need to justify itself to Barbados minority communities. It was our ancestors who toiled to build this island. And it is their descendants who should be the SOLE inheritors of the island and its resources.

    It is evident that this government is being encouraged to water down it’s black population with its intention to enlarge the population by 80,000. Such a betrayal would regress further Barbados majority population.

    I would urge any new political party to focus on the issues that I have raised. As Miller stated, Barbados black population risks becoming irrelevant if it remains idle and disinterested in how their country is governed.

    Wiliam Skinner you are totally correct. I am also of the opinion that local whites need not to apologize for anything perceived to be negative,disrespectful or hurtful done by them against Black Barbadians. Blacks Barbadians defend them expertly.
    Many Black Barbadians love white people bad,bad,bad.They could do them no wrong. If a white person in Barbados unfortunately offend a Black Barbadian even in the most extreme way by causing physical injuries or death,some Black Barbadians will defend the action of the white persons or persons involved. Justification will be given for the white person behavior. The most ludicrous excuses will be given for the white person action. AS I said White people could commit the most heinous crime in Barbados and get away with it.
    I read in Kim Ramsay book title “Murders that shocked Barbados” that in the 1980’s so-called “Cane Field Murders” that a local businessman of a lighter hue and race was the prime suspect in those murders. The Police knew who the suspect was and had surveillance on him. The Police knew his address and his whereabouts and on one occasion had the opportunity to arrest the culprit but either failed or refused to take him into custody. Ultimately,the culprit fled the island and was never apprehended. Sadly,the families of those unfortunate victims never received justice. This is the Barbados that we Blacks who lived here called home. A despotic,class riddled,corrupt society with a bunch of Black sycophants and sell outs as our leaders.
    Clifford Corbin and all the other white Barbadians and the non-Black communities in Barbados as well know that they can say anything derogatory or insulting towards Black Barbadians as well as perpetuate all types of injustices against us and little or nothing will be done.Barbados is a joke society. The Willie Lynch syndrome is well entrenched in us and it seems we do not want to rid ourselves of it.
    Two little Black boys disgustingly damaged a bus belonging to white business magnate Ralph ” Bizzy Williams and they will be prosecuted by the Police and “Bizzy” Williams but a white man who insulted the whole Black population of Barbados including our psychotic Black leaders will more than likely not be prosecuted but excuses will be given for his behavior and a pardon sought for him.
    Whites in Barbados as well as the other Non-Black communities know they are priceless and touchless in Barbados and as a consequence can and continue to do nonsense in Barbados and get away it scotch free
    Barbados is a sick society..

    In return the all-loving blacks will accept your confession and request for forgiveness for over 300 years and abuse and exploitation and would pledge to continue to support the few remaining white-owned businesses in true Uncle Tom style.

    As a matter of fact, the blacks can even form a pack of prayer warriors and get on their sugar cane field worn-out knees to supplicate for the return of those halcyon days of the Quakers and as a sign of salvation from the Quaker white god in the sky.

    My A.. you don’t..He declared his true sentiment/Identity. It was who he is and how he sees our 90 percent black majority peoples in His white 10 percent BDS world.

    I had to tolerate many similar outbursts across South African cities in the 1970’S from Cape Horn/Cape-Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban to Johannesburg. I refused to condone Cliff Corbins mire on Barbados soil…

    I really don’t see the need to drag Indians into this, deal with Clifford Corbin, and any other underlying issue that may stem from the white community. It’s unjust to paint all Corbin’s and Whites with the same brush however it is safe to assume there is an underlying problem in the White community and it needs to be addressed. As an Indian the few times I have been able to stomach hanging out with whites the most deplorable of comments are made about Black people which is the exact reason I never made myself a fixture in any of those circles, its evident that there is a culture of racism still prevalent in the White community but it’s not fair to paint every Corbin/White with the same brush. As it stands with the Indian community, the last 10-15 years has seen a massive departure from the insularity that we were once known for, many families now have black sons in law, daughters in law and grandchildren, there are many converts to the Islamic faith among the local Black population (I can’t speak for the Hindu community) and we all enjoy each others company, break bread together and live very closely with each other especially as it pertains to supporting Black businesses. Every family is different, there are many families that are very “recent” in terms of how long ago they emigrated and there are others, like mine, that will be celebrating 100 years here in about 15-16 years. In other Caribbean territories (TT and Guyana specifically) the Indian and Black communities do not have a good relationship but we are not them and the history of Indian emigration to Barbados is very different in Barbados. As another commenter illustrated a lot of our businesses are tied to providing low-middle income families and businesses with generous credit terms, we lose and gain money from this business model just as any credit-based business does but we do not lash out in racist tirades every time a Black Bajan refuses to pay debts, we simply cut our losses move on to the next customer and know that that person will never get a good reference from us. This business is profitable, it’s not a charity, but the existence of it especially in the early days has had a resounding impact on Black people accessing credit in a time where the system was purposely designed to keep Black people down. This incident was deplorable and ought not to be happening anywhere in the world, far less Barbados but we need to really embody a reaction that is solution and forward-focused instead of lashing out at any and everyone.

    I watched CC and his black rasta second man interact over a period of time many years ago on the job.

    I never saw anything exhibited by CC to tell me he was any white supremacist or racist.

    There was obviously an employer/employee relationship.

    There was also the normal employee/employer relationship as exists in Barbados and anywhere else!!

    I got to interact with both individuals.

    There are many workers in Barbados and elsewhere who actually do not respect their employers and will back bite them when they are not around.

    Often they are good workers and confident in their abilities.

    CC’s second man was good at what he did but he did not respect CC.

    CC kept the equipment working with what limited resources he had so to my mind he was good at what he did.

    He also seemed to be able to market his business and get work to keep himself and his second man employed.

    Between the two, they delivered a high quality job with the equipment they had.

    But as I said before CC had some weird theories.

    Would I hire him again?

    Probably not, but more because he did not have the equipment I needed.

    If he did, he would not have those theories because i believe those theories kept him from growing.

    Just last year as she got off the bus in Canada some white freak tried to follow one of my young black Canadian relatives home. She called me, and I had to ask her not to go straight home but to go to another house. Meanwhile from right here in Barbados I had to call the Canadian cops for the freak.

    So “yes” white men have historically harassed and sexually molested black women. It is still happening in the 21st century.

    Thanks. I have read every post and discovered we have a lot of psychologists on BU.
    I read COW Williams insulted blacks who work for him. I don’t live on the island. I took up my pen and wrote a letter to the Nation telling off COW.
    Barbadians called me , what’s up and emailed me telling they were in agreement with me. Not one of them could find a pen!
    About thirty years ago, still living on the island, I wrote a letter defending Hilary Beckles. In that letter I went after the white people. The following day , I was informed that the letter was discussed at a mainly white watering hole.
    I have written at least eight letters to the Nation exposing the racism of the columnist Hoad ( not one has been published) . The first one was written after Hoad had only written about six articles.
    I have reluctantly entered this discussion. This is a very old movie. Like Chalkdust say : I ain’t just come town. I have been saying the same thing I am saying now for over fifty years.
    The man (Corbin)cuss our ass and we apologizing for him. Simple as that.
    The only part of the world where a majority people are calling for a committee to give them rights is Barbados.
