Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

The Donville Inniss trial in the USA suffocated the local newsfeed in recent days and prevented the blogmaster – absent the noise – from sharing thoughts about other matters. Now that we have touchdown in the Inniss matter with the predictable verdict being returned, it is time.

Two images were posted in the Nation newspaper on the 12th and 18th of January 2020 which captured the attention of this blogmaster.

One image emblazoned on the Sunday’s front page of the 12 January 2020 showed the beaming countenance of Peter Wickham and Giancarlo with the caption – “Regional political consultant was formally married to his partner of the past ten years, Giancarlo Cardinale yesterday at the Hotel de Ville in Strasbourg, France …

Some will accuse the blogmaster of being homophobic after posting this blog. You are free to do so. Individuals are free to live lifes as they chose, once done within the boundary of the law. We live in a world where same sex unions are being given the ‘weight’ traditional marriages.  The beef this blogmaster has with the Nation Media House is the decision to insert the picture on the front page AND referring to the union as a marriage.

Barbadians are a people wedded to the traditional view that a marriage is ” established between two people of the opposite sex.” The Nation newspaper as the leading media outlet in the country has a duty to responsibly share information that accurately influence given the power of media to influence (manipulate) public opinion. After all we have the vulnerable in society to shepherd. Posting Wickhams so called marriage on the front page  brings into serious question the quality of decision-making at the Editor’s desk at Nation Publishing.

    “@ David
First you need to accept that because something is traditional does not mean it’s correct .
The simple truth is that homosexuality has been around as long as heterosexuality. Why do you think it was opposed by the Christians and the same bible apparently opposed it. Answer: it was prevalent.
Being homosexual is as natural as being heterosexual.”
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

At least you have a watertight position by using the qualifier “Natural” and not ‘normal’.

Should society (to use the blog master’s exotic turn of phrase “SOB”) treat left-handedness in similar manner as it used to do in the past?

Being left-handed was associated with being evil giving rise to that negative description of being ‘sinister’ leading to persecution by the Church and even attempts at conversion to right-handedness as seen today among some churches with their attempts at ‘gay conversion’.

There is a ‘distinct’ similarity between the ratio of left-handed people to the general population (SOB) and the ratio of homosexuals to the same SOB.

It’s just Mother Nature’s 10% rule in action to create diversity and as a natural technique to control population growth by creating another built-in redundancy (like congenital infertility) in the procreation act called ‘Sex’.

The same way there are people who are ambidextrous so too there are those in the SOB who swing both ways.

Watch out for the likes of Dr. GP the ‘closeted’ preacher woman pretending to be a man!

“I would not go as far as @ PLT to call you and Lucas homophobic unless that is now synonymous with ignorant in regards to the discussion under consideration.”

I again say to you ,read the postings carefully before jumping to conclusions .I expressed reservations about the union being called a marriage, suggesting an alternative name be coined, I said it was my personal opinion. What seemed to have pissed you off is the part about plumbing and adoption of children. The part about plumbing is factual and cannot be disputed. The part about adoption was chosen to illustrate a point (since same sex unions were sanctioned based on equality under the law and logic). One can posit the case that same sex unions should not be allowed to adopt children, if one wants to carry the discourse to a logical conclusion, since all the required plumbing is not available.. You are entitled to your opinion

  3. @ WS:

“Being homosexual is as natural as being heterosexual”.

May be. I simply don’t know enuff. What is the specific authority for your proposition? Are we simply the sum of our independent and inter-dependent parts? Does this mean any port in any storm? What makes this “natural”, whatever that is?

  4. @ Caleb Pilgrim January 21, 2020 6:50 AM
“What makes this “natural”, whatever that is?”
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Because it is found among other mammalian species on Mother Nature’s lands.

Check out the bonobos, our nearest cousins on the DNA map of the primate family tree.

It is not ‘normal’ but it certainly is Natural and not a synthetic or artificial act which has been practised by humans from Egyptian, Greek, Roman and even Biblical times.

If it were the ‘norm’ Humans would have extinct a long time.

  5. Venue says no to hosting same-sex wedding
SOUTH AFRICA – A wedding venue is facing criticism after the Christian owners declined to host a lesbian couple’s wedding.
Megan Watling, 25, and Sasha-Lee Heekes, 24, said they contacted the owners of Beloftebos, a popular event place in Cape Town, South Africa, inquiring about potential dates for their wedding.
However, they received an email response that the venue does not accommodate weddings between couples of the same gender, Watling and Heekes wrote on Facebook.
Beloftebos spokesman Michael Swain told CNN the owners declined the couple’s request because it contradicted their orthodox Christian beliefs that marriage should be between “one man and one woman”.
Swain argued that the venue owners were not homophobic but forcing them to host the nuptials also violated their rights to express their religious beliefs.
“LGBT rights do not trump religious rights under South Africa’s constitution. The owners don’t just rent out the venue, they are also actively involved in the arrangement, which they are simply saying they do not believe they can do in good conscience,” Swain said.
The couple has complained about the venue to the South Africa Human Rights Commission. They will announce further actions to be taken on the matter, a spokesperson told CNN yesterday. (CNN)

Llike any abstract concept, consent is just a mere word like any other, whose meaning can change or stretched to suit the time or any special lobby group. Did animals give human beings ‘consent’ to be consumed as meat?

A speedy death is less of a consequence than a confusing life.

  7. “Being homosexual is as natural as being heterosexual”.

I would like William Skinner to say which authorities claim the above. In any population, there is going to be a subset that deviate from the norm. Allergenic response in foods are restricted to very small subset of national populations For this reason, foods are marketed aimed at the majority population which do not suffer allergenic response. It is too expensive to do otherwise. To cater to for those who have an allergenic response, a cautionary warning is included in the label. It is known scientifically, that there is a subset in human populations that is gay. This subset is in context of the worlds’ human population, miniscule( statistically insignificant at any level of probability and therefore cannot be taken as the norm for wider population ) and in this subset the gay life style is taken as normal that is obvious. I am going to make a statement that is going to disturb the sensibilities of the majority of humans. Biologically, sex evolved for the procreation of humans and all other sexual beings. Humans might want to say all different things about sex( enjoyment and so on). Biologically, it was strictly meant as a procreation tool. That is a statement of fact. :

  8. @ The Miller:

Hmmmmh. Interesting…. However, I still seem to remember my 1st year UL LLB. Criminal Law course work, which spoke to the issues of “unnatural acts”, “unnatural relations” and even “crimes against nature”.

You see, Miller, if we are bent (original sense) on pursuing this particular path, (same-sex marriages, civil unions, etc), I believe that, in a democratic society, the matter could best be resolved by way of a national referendum late 2021, early 2022, allowing the electorate and all stakeholders to be heard.

  9. @ Caleb Pilgrim January 21, 2020 11:51 AM

Good on there, Pilly! Mr. Wharton and even the ‘Rubbernut’ would have been proud of you!

Who, do you think, would be first one to vote “Yes” to such a referendum question if not the primus inter pares?

How about putting on the same referendum ballot paper the question of becoming a republic? Or are you perspicacious enough to see such a question being prematurely put to the people of Barbados as the 71 (going 72) year old Prince Charlie and his impatient consort set on sharing the throne cannot wait any longer past 2020.

  10. So…. those who are sterile or barren should stop having sex. Sex was obviously made for procreation AND for enjoyment and intimacy.

So… when we have voted what do we do with the poor homosexuals? Perhaps we should reduce their taxes to make up for their being second class citizens. Hardly seems fair that they should pay full taxes but not be full citizens of our society with equal rights. Come to think of it – has that law that disallows automatic citizenship to the spouses of Barbadian women been changed? If not, my taxes should also be reduced since the benefits of full citizenship have been denied to me. Why should the law demand full taxes while denying the benefits of full citizenship?

The Law, also, used to classify black people as sub-human and property of white people.

Were the white people who ‘slept’ with their property committing acts of bestiality?

The law was made to serve man; not man serve the law.

If man was made to serve the unchangeable ‘Law’ women would still be stoned for adultery while letting the male involved go free to commit another round of bestiality like leaving his crowing ‘cock’ in the ‘well’ of an ass.

And that’s where the feminists and their “Me too” movement ought to be directing their energies and verbal arrows instead of wasting their time on the already emasculated westernized man.

Not even the self-confessed woman Petra Wick ham and the Bajan coven of feminists have the ovarian fortitude to speak out about the sexist and blatant enslavement of the women in the Bajan Muslim community.

The big mouth Bajan feminists (Like our own Simple Simone the “Silly Wo(e)man” with a scalpel in hand like a witch of a grim reaper) dare not raise their loud voices for the liberation of their obviously oppressed Muslims sisters but take every opportunity to attack the already downtrodden ‘Christian’ Bajan black men whose male offspring have been threatened with castration.

  22. Best wishes to all the BU family for 2020. It’s going to be a hot up here this year from the looks of things so far! And we are just beginning to gather!

@ In the Name of Common Sense January 18, 2020 3:39 PM

Yours is a fairly balanced summary of the situation. But I go further. Always left out of the equation is His Most High the Sovereign One (a.k.a. “God”!) What He has said about marriage apparently does not matter… Of course, PLT and like-minded liberals and situation ethicists will tell you that what is He says comes from the white man’s Bible!

Incidentally, I understand there is a Jamaican/Creole Bible; heard some of it ( “the annunciation”) on the radio some time ago. Loved it! Would very much like to like to get a copy…but I digress!

I take the position that even if I am guilty of their violation, God’s laws and principles are binding on me! It is my job to align myself with those laws and principles. That’s a very tall order, I know. But it simplifies life a lot!

Notice I said: “God’s laws and principles” and not those of the Catholic Church or any other religion or denomination. There is no Scriptural requirement for celibacy! That’s religion speaking!

People like to use the failings of religion as an excuse for their indulgences, no matter how wrong or corrupt. That’s why I am still looking for a gun to shoot religion!

I have also reached the stage where I do not waste much time arguing with “liberals”. If I may use a lightweight definition, “Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on liberty, consent of the governed and equality before the law” (Wikipedia) . Sounds very good, very idealistic but the trouble comes in interpreting “liberty”. Is it the same as “freedom”? Can we be 100% free? (like 100% Bajan?).

BTW, even though David over-reached in characterizing the Nation’s report of Wickham’s marriage, it is refreshing to note that he is not as “liberal” as he often makes out! The man still has some conservative bone structure! That, in my view, is a good thing.

My position is that if you do not believe in a sovereign God who is the Creator, owner of all things and Supreme Law Giver, (who is capable of speaking, may I add) there is no point in any argument about liberty, freedom, whatever. The fundamental premises are not the same.

So it makes no sense passing judgment on Peter Wickham (as against dissecting the issue) because God is the ultimate Judge. If you monitored Wickham’s writings over the years, you would see this coming, anyhow. He (or she) was just preparing the wicket…I mean making up the bed!

So here’s what matters. If Jehovah did no send down lightning bolts on the pair there and then you can bet the Supremely Intelligent One has a plan that surpasses all of our feeble condemnations; with a sense of humour to boot!

Many years ago, just after printing was invented, I gather that a man argued that the Bible would be out of print in a few years. But some years later his home was turned into a printing press for the Bible! LOL? Indeed! What is that Bajan saying again? “He who laughs last, laughs longest?”

The wicked scheme against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them, but the Lord laughs, seeing that their day is coming. Psalm 37:12 – 13.

Lighten up, look straight ahead and make way for the Laughing Sovereign God!

You seem to have a problem with comprehension. You made a statement to wit : “Being homosexual is as natural as being heterosexual”.

I responded by stating that statistically given the world population, the number of persons purporting to be gay is insignificant at all levels of probability and could not be construed as being normal of the human population at all: in essence they constitute a minority subset of the human population. No where did I talk about the hormonal effect at puberty and its influence on sexual orientation. .

  27. Any God who laughs while condemning people to death cannot be loving or good. Even I, a flawed human being, feel sadness at the execution of a CONVICTED KILLER in a movie scene. I often shed tears. At at a fictional scene, for heaven’s sake! Of a bloody MURDERER!

Where did that feeling come from for a person who has done the ultimate wrong – SATAN???????

Amazing statistic if you look at the number of gays who are in leadership positions and who are leading : countries corporations church education etc. Not bad for a group of humans you have labeled a “ sub set”.
You can dress up your views but when clinically analyse , they are discriminatory and unbecoming of a man who daily speaks about fairness. You want yo deny human beings like yourself the right to marry and parent children simply because they find fulfillment differently from you. Nobody is telling you how to or with whom to use your “plumbing” but you want to dictate how others should enjoy or use theirs. It is an insult and a very mightier Than thou attitude. You are like all the religious bigots masquerading about protecting the institution of marriage and determining who can and cannot be good and proper parents.
You were allowed to choose a partner of your choice; to use your plumbing as you wish; I imagine and along the way you became the kind of father you wanted to be and you were left alone. Nobody judged you but suddenly you are now the bedroom police of BU. You can never defend your position . You are supporting the suppression of rights that you enjoy.

How then do you explain left-handedness in the human population? It certainly can’t be as ‘black or white’ as male or female?

Aren’t left-handed people too a minority subset of the (universal) human population like those found in the disabled communities right across the globe?

  32. @Miller January 21, 2020 2:35 PM “Who or what are these ‘NATO’ Bajan feminists afraid off? A fatwa to turn them into stoned dead dummies?”

Nope we are not afraid of a fatwa, nor are we afraid of Miller. Becausin’ neither Miller, nor any Muslim man, nor any Christian or unbelieving man ever rice me yet. I have ALWAYS earned my own living by the sweat of my own brow, the labor of my own hands and the efforts of my own brain. ALL good gifts from my God to me. NOT GIFTS FROM ANY MAN.

If Muslim women in Barbados or anywhere else, if any woman of any religion anywhere is being oppressed she needs to walk, or better still run from her oppressor, and earn her own living by the sweat of her own brow, the work of her own hands and the effort of her own brain, all gifts from our God to us women [and men]

My mother always told us, her girls not to be the sort of women to always have out hands long out to any man saying gimme, gimme [my mother was born in 1915, lived to be nearly 100]. Recently our Anglican bishop has said that Anglican women need not stay in any marriage if it is killing them. My mother was an adult long before our dear bishop was born and she had long given her girls the EXACT SAME ADVICE.

I would say to women of any religion anywhere if your marriage is killing you then you have a moral obligation to follow my mother’s advice and the bishop’s advice. Leave. Neither your God nor mine wants you to be staying a killing relationship.

A good day to you Miller.

Now let me go and find some honest work to occupy my hands and my brain today.

In Dr. Lucas’ world if there are five thousand black and white goats and among them we find forty brown and white goats, they become a subset and should not therefore be expected to have the same benefits of the other four thousand nine hundred and sixty. They are no longer goats if there are gay because they cannot procreate and this means that they can no longer produce good mutton because they don’t have the required “ plumbing”. Now if perchance a heterosexual goat couple wanders off and leave two kids , these forty homosexual goats are really incapable of raising the kids. His argument gets more and more preposterous by the second . His attempt to abuse statistics is even more concerning.

  35. @robert lucas January 21, 2020 6:47 AM “One can posit the case that same sex unions should not be allowed to adopt children, if one wants to carry the discourse to a logical conclusion, since all the required plumbing is not available.”

i am surprised to hear that specific “plumbing” is required in order to raise children. I have raised children, mine natural and adopted, and some belonging to brother “outlaws” and I found that all that was needed were hard working hands, loving hearts, and sensible brains.

  36. @robert lucas January 21, 2020 11:45 AM. “Humans might want to say all different things about sex( enjoyment and so on). Biologically, it was strictly meant as a procreation tool. That is a statement of fact.”

This may be so, but I think that Gid ir evolution, or God using evolution permitted sex to be a whole lot of fun, because God or evolution or perhaps Mother nature knew that child raising is not half as much fun as sexing, so sexual fun is a reward delivered before the bare hard work of child raising begins.

This serious question is addressed to Robert Lucas, Dr. GP and the other scientific minds of BU:

Why does sex remain so much fun long, long after the capacity to procreate has passed?:

  37. @Caleb Pilgrim January 21, 2020 11:51 AM “However, I still seem to remember my 1st year UL LLB. Criminal Law course work, which spoke to the issues of “unnatural acts”, “unnatural relations” and even “crimes against nature”.

If it was unnatural why has it occurred in every human society, across all times. And don’t forget that sex between black and white people was long illegal in the United States miscegnation they called it, even while their Founding Fathers [or maybe I should say their Fooping Fathers] Thomas Jefferson et.al were daily sexing with black women [and very, very likely with black men too]

This is nonsense, Sexuality is not the only attribute that defines normal in humans.

    Better yet, please define normal

You have once more shown your lack of understanding of the normal/natural distribution. Also sexuality is not a random variable, therefore you cannot apply a normal distribution.

What you need to consider is the many attributes of human beings (intelligence, personality, other psychological attributes).

Once you include all or enough you will find that the other attributes of homosexuals will balance out their sexuality and therefore from an overall perspective they will be NORMAL (IE a homosexual will be normal in 9 out of 10 attributes).

@Mr. Skinner you are correct, this is flagrant abuse of statistics and would not stand up in any academic institution

“i am surprised to hear that specific “plumbing” is required in order to raise children. I have raised children, mine natural and adopted, and some belonging to brother “outlaws” and I found that all that was needed were hard working hands, loving hearts, and sensible brains.”

The use of the term plumbing has nothing to do with raising children. Plumbing refers to the internal anatomy required to facilitate pregnancy.

“Why does sex remain so much fun long, long after the capacity to procreate has passed?:”
GP should be in a better position, to respond to this

” to stamping a scarlet “A” on the foreheads of “adulterous” women, to female genital mutilation, to public “shaming”, calling us wild and .”

Nathaniel Hawthorne of the “Scarlet Letter” ( Hester Prynne). You are also very adept when it comes literature. The National Library would be proud of you since from what you have mentioned you used to frequent it.

  48. He didn’t only say it, he lived it. Raised all of his children well in the same household, always said that he didn’t want all his children all ’bout de place, because if your children are not with you how can you properly supervise them and care for them. The boys turned out real good.

My son also says exactly the same thing. He sees women as equal partners and wants one good one with whom to raise his children. I see no signs that he sees good behaviour as onerous but just the sensible thing to do if one wishes to increase the probability of a less complicated life. Sixteen years old and willing to wait for that special girl. So far, so good!

@peterlawrencethompson January 21, 2020 2:01 PM “The Old Testament is still part of the Bible: the inerrant word of God.”

Nope. The fallible word of fallible MEN who were hoping to control female sexuality.

Ya ole Anglican! Being Anglican is wonderfully freeing, isn’t it?

“As for your left handed being abnormal. I bat left-handed and bowl right-handed. Furthermore my blood group is AB positive and happens to a rare blood group. It is therefore obvious that I am in a minority and do not fall in the normal range of humanity in these traits. I am not perturb by my inherited traits”

Be careful how you classify yourself there, old boy Robert!

We would hate to think there might be metatarsals from a skeleton falling out of the closet.

In your own well defined minority of homosexuals there is a subset whose classification is right up your alley of batting right and bowling left on the double-dealing wicket of bisexuality

This ambidexterity among your normal minority of straight humans does have its equivalent subset in the ‘abnormal’ minority of homosexuals.

From what has been argued, it can be gleaned, in the final analysis, that human sexuality is neither a mutually exclusive statistical phenomenon of distinct shades of pure white or sinful black but a continuum of a rainbow of colours with the clear markings of ‘to each his or her own’ as long as the long-term goals of Mother Nature are met; that is survival of the species until Father Time says it’s time to go.
