BROOKLYN: BROOKLYN: The New York based Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) on Friday harshly condemned the killing of 26 year-old St. Lucian national and Dallas, Texas resident, Botham Shem Jean. Jean was shot and killed around 10:00 p.m Thursday night, September 6, 2018 in his own home, by a female Dallas police officer. The officer told investigators that she returned home from her shift and entered the wrong apartment in her building.

In a statement issued Friday, CGID President, Rickford Burke, said the officer’s negligent, reckless conduct and depraved indifference to human life resulted in murder. He consequently called on Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson to prosecute the officer accordingly and to the fullest extent of the law.

Burke said “the culture of policing that has emerged in black communities all across America is one where cops shoot to kill first, then ask questions after.” He asserted that “Police officers are killing black men while walking innocently on the streets, driving innocently in our cars and now while living innocently in our own home. This is too much for a people to bear. CGID therefore calls on the US Justice Department to review and revise the protocols for armed engagement by law enforcement in America.”

Burke said “CGID intends to write our US Senators and Members of Congress from New York, to push for a national review and reform of protocols on how and when law enforcement officers engage in the use of force. This is long overdue. How many more black men must be killed before we take action?” Burke posited that “politicians who sit by and do nothing about the epidemic of law enforcement murders of innocent black men are equally complicit in these killings and should be held to account.”

Dallas police department Friday issued a statement claiming that the officer called for help and told responding officers “she entered the victim’s apartment believing that it was her own.” The incident took place at South Side Flats, an upscale apartment complex located in downtown, Dallas, a few blocks from Police headquarters.

Dallas Police said the officer was in full uniform and “fired her weapon striking the victim who was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Burke blasted the Dallas Police for not releasing details about how the officer reached into Jean’s apartment and whether a breathalyzer was administered, as would have been the case with an ordinary citizen. He also questioned how Jean’s name was released to the public when Police simultaneously confirmed  that the next of kin notification was not made.

The CGID head said the officer’s story is inexplicable and implausible. Emphasizing that Caribbean community believes the officer’s account strains credulity, Burke questioned its veracity saying “if she went to the wrong apartment how did she make initial contact with Mr. Jean? How do you mistakenly shoot your neighbor who you see and presumably interact with regularly, without recognizing him?  “The Dallas Police chief expressly stated that her department is no longer pursuing a “police involved shooting investigation,” but is seeking a warrant pursuant to a manslaughter investigation. Clearly the police evidence suggests that this is not an accident and that the officer’s account contradicts the evidence. Hence, in the interest of transparency CGID calls on the Dallas Police Department to stop disseminating misinformation and disclosed the facts and circumstances of Mr. Jean’s death forthwith, lest it is viewed as concealment,” Burke contended.

the US to study accounting at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He also studied at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, in Castries, St. Lucia before migrating to the US. At the time of his death, he worked in Dallas as a risk assurance associate for accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers.

CGID Has called on all Caribbean American organizations and nationals to condemn Jean’s killing and to support and express solidarity with his family.

Another example of the rigged system. But in the US of A the white supremacist Jeff Sessions is fighting hard against the marijuana legalisation. He is reversing voting rights . He has reversed Obama led justice and policing reforms. The white supremacists are fighting back and rearing their hideous heads all over the world. We must be vigilant and not be like the proverbial frog boiling slowly or else we will be cooked before we know it. That is why the genteel white man pretending to care while providing the match for the stove lighting is more dangerous than the hooded ones. We all can see the hooded ones coming. But the other ones work on the minds of the weaker ones with flawed statistics to convince us that we deserve to be boiled.

Legalising marijuana in Canada will reduce the number of young black men in prison.

But wouldn’t this just reduce the overall prison population and keep the stats the same?

You got to be very careful of the crime discourse (especially those who keep on Googling to get their information). In the UK we have an ongoing debate about what they call county line rug deal. Basically young people who travel out of Greater London to the neighbouring counties to sell drugs.
If the focus remains on the supply side, the young lads who go out to sell drugs, then there is an over-concentration on young black people, in particular by the media. However, as I have said on a number of occasions, the emphasis should be on the demand side, the young, white professionals who want a constant supply of weekend drugs for their dinner parties. Bu, of course, the police and media do not want to go there.
Years ago, as a young Daily Mail investigator, I was working on a story about drug dealing in North West London and mentioned it at a Saturday black pudding and souse session we used to have. The myth at the time was that Asian corner shop owners used to work very hard and kept their shops opened night and day, that was why they were so successful. It took a young UK Bajan to disabuse me of that myth.
He told me that in many cases the shops were fronts for drug dealing. It is now common knowledge they are fronts for all kinds of crimes. I have tried to apply this thinking to Swan Street and those shop owners who only deal in cash. I am sure it goes on in Barbados. It certainly goes on in Brooklyn.

For Team Trump’s endless attempts to change the subject, toss out shiny distractions, beef with NFL players, boast about Trump’s self-graded A-plus hurricane responses and whine about the hated media, Robert Mueller landed a very big fish Friday.

By securing a cooperation agreement with Paul Manafort, Mueller unlocks a Pandora’s Box of crazy-making trouble for this White House and this President.

If Michael Cohen was a roadmap to the center of Trump’s financial and personal sleaze and corruption, Manafort is a travel guide to the inner workings of the Trump campaign, and of the actions of Russian spies and billionaire oligarchs to manipulate American interests and elections.”

“The woman who has accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her more than 30 years ago has come forward, saying that during a high school party a drunken Kavanaugh pinned her on a bed, groped her and covered her mouth to keep her from screaming. “I thought he might inadvertently kill me,” the woman, Christine Blasey Ford, a 51-year-old research psychologist at Palo Alto University in Northern California, said in an interview with The Washington Post. “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.” The Post’s article included an interview with Ford’s husband and her lawyer, Debra Katz, and described a therapist’s notes from 2012 in which Ford told of the attack….Friday. In her interview with The Post, Ford offered further detail, saying that one summer in the early 1980s, Kavanaugh and a friend, both “stumbling drunk,” led her into a bedroom at a home in Montgomery County, Maryland, where teenagers had gathered. The woman was wearing a bathing suit under her clothes. While his friend watched, the woman said, Kavanaugh pinned her down, grinding his body against hers and trying to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it. She said she was able to escape when Kavanaugh’s friend, Mark Judge, jumped on top of them, sending all three tumbling. She told The Post that she ran from the room, briefly locked herself in a bathroom and then fled the house.

Glad it wasn’t my daughter or lawson’s.

Frankly I don’t like Cavanaugh’s politics so I admittedly would not like him to be confirmed but absent a BrockTurner situation were Cavanaugh was charged at THE time this is basically WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

At least in Thomas’ situation the charges of sexual impropriety were more current in his adult life as a sober person.

Trump did not start from scratch. He turned millions into billions. (Though we only have his word on the billions part.)
Trump’s business filed for bankruptcy several times, stiffing his creditors and adding to his habit of stiffing workers and contractors and even Puerto Rico I understand.
Legitimate banks in the USA refused to lend him money and he managed to secure loans from the disreputable Deuche Bank with questionable lending habits and strange attachments to certain oligarchs.
Large amounts of Russian money seem to have overpaid for several of his apartments in Trump Tower.
Obama, whom you brought into the conversation ( I thought we were discussing Maxine Waters) inherited an economy in the worst shape since the 1920 s. (Thanks to the insatiable greed of people of your ilk.) When Trump took over it was stable and growing. How much the president influences the economy is debatable, but Obama did not spend time boasting because he was aware of the many, many Americans who were not sharing in the bounty. The wage growth when compared to inflation rates is still negative.

I shall not address the Clintons issue because there is much there that shouldn’t be defended. But I will suggest that Trump has done all that they have and much, much, more.

PS. 1. Obama is not perfect and therefore would have made mistakes and told some lies.

        2. I had never seen those Maxine Waters videos. She does seem to have some issues.

And now here’s your litmus test –

Is Donald Trump a compulsive liar or what?

  • Now to you Dribbler,

Nowhere did I say that Kavanaugh’s guilt is a forgone conclusion. What I was responding to was your assertion that even if he HAD done it he should not be disadvantaged because it happened so long ago when he was a drunken teenager. You said it seemed he had learnt his lesson.

And no, it does not follow that other women would have come forward because they realize they are not alone. That would depend on how brave the women are. And one would have to be very brave. Next, how do you know that your daughter would have put this behind her unless she has already done so. Next, even if your daughter could overcome it does not follow that EVERY woman would be able to do so. Each woman deserves the right to her process. There should be no standard set – especially set by MEN.

And finally, if he did assault her and HAD learnt his lesson he wouldn’t assault her again by DENYING HER EXPERIENCE. He could apologize for his drunken youthfulness. Even I would accept that if I were the victim. I believe that most of us would. Most of America probably would.

  • I don’t know where this accusation will lead but history tells us that politics will win out i.e. the politics of the majority who want their man who will side with their views on most if not all topics in court. When the US Supreme Court makes a decision we know how Clarence Thomas will vote we don’t have to guess.

This is directed to those who question the timing, is there a time limit of when people should come forward in these types of allegations? According to the Press she contacted the Senate Office of Sen. Feinstein before Kavanaugh was nominated so that point is moot and more recently we have the case of the priest in Penn who was molesting 5 sisters and none spoke to the other about what was happening to her.

The “mansplainers” here can continue to tell women that they should stick to a deadline and what they should and shouldn’t do as well as tell us what their daughters would do, I don’t have any daughters but I have nieces and we have never had this conversation so I won’t try to insert my opinion on this topic.

Have you not yet worked out that in order to live peacefully in an albino-centric society it is necessary to have FLEXIBLE principles?
Dribbles CANNOT contemplate a situation where a white man should be made to pay some price for shiite that he did back as a young adult …. even though he understands FULLY why practically ALL young blacks pay a lifetime price for foolishly fooling with drugs while young, poor, and disadvantaged….

Sargeant cannot understand what a victim would come forward ONLY when she sees a KNOWN scamp about to be confirmed as a TOP LAWMAKER of the land ….rather than spend what was left of her life pursuing him if he had kept a lower profile…

    Principle is a funny thing….
It overrides politics, comfort, time, money ….and even safety….
It takes a REAL person to be guided by principle…

He would be a first hand witness and could corroborate …. or deny!!

You would think she would use him as a witness.

It can’t be that she wants to protect his reputation but yet is quite willing to ruin that of Kavanaugh!!

She may have forgotten or never knew the name but I doubt, not in the setting she claims in which it happened.

The setting is a house with a circle of other teenagers, more than likely her friends.

Kavanaugh has probably been through all sorts of public selection processes before arriving to this juncture of his life.

You are right NOT to seek to interject your opinion on this matter if you have no skin in the game.
It is not possible to understand how an individual will deal with atraumatic situation.

Indeed, what may have been a traumatic event for this woman could have been seen as a little prank by another. The POINT is that in these times, those seeking high office MUST be prepared to have their linen washed in public.
The days of pretending to be a flawless ‘saint’ because of the ability to hide flaws ARE OVER.

What the shiite judge SHOULD have said is:
“‘Yes, I do recall that silly prank that I played at a party in my carefree school days. I highly regret the youthful misjudgement that the incident reflects, and indeed I have learnt extensively from the experience of that mistake…and have come to better recognise and respect the impact that such experiences can have on the lives of victims.

This was a foolish and reckless action on my part, and while I recognise and regret the hurt it would have caused Mrs *****, i have learnt quite a lot from that mistake..
I hope that ***** will be able to forgive this childish mistake on my part some 30 years ago, and to finally overcome the hurt that resulted…”

    End quote.

@BushTea, woe is me to get into a match of morals with you and @Donna and indeed @Sargeant.

To read the above threads it appears I did NOT explain myself carefully….when in fact I thought I was quite clear.

Suffice to say to you senor if your perspective of a moral compass applies to the millions of cases of Black youth wronged or jailed but goes haywire seemingly due to it being a privileged white boy then I loudly suck my teeth at your convient moral morass.

    @John 10 out of 10.

I have never been stumbling drunk but based on those I have actually seen I know that the bro who peed all over his mother’s front house a fore day morn eons ago has no freaking recollection of that then shocking incident.

Thankfully he didn’t try to rape anyone.

Do we dare ask the other basic question as to why these teenagers in their gilded neighborhiods were allowed to get so stumbling drunk…

That sir is a moral outrage surely as our Black brothers n sisters are condemned resoundingly for that same decadence now and are deprived on ascending to the heighest heights…so let’s take out Kavansugh on that morality crusade surely….perfect payback!

It is difficult to cut through into practical debate if terms (clearly explained) are going to become trivial distractions and biases not left at the door.

I have ABSOLUTELY no brief for Kavansugh…and hope he is defeated…but big deal…Trump elects another conservative anyhow…and look sharp one more after that… Democratic Congress or not.

The problem is that the stupid, very damaging, drunken behaviour of a teen that was NOT …repeat was NOT…highlighted or complained about at the time (WHY) can now be used to totally wipe away the person’s life.

Again I ask….did he continue to be a drunk and irresponsible person like a certain Bush scion who went on to WH after turning his life around ….so they say… Did he ever have his WTFrig moment after he awoke with that brutal hangover….I don’t know but from the extensive background investigation into his life thus far it seems he did not continue to be a lush and reprobate ….

If you and others see that stand as my lacking principle due to ur negolistic unreal grandstanding then unprincipled I am…

If this lady goes to Congress then very possibly he is dead in the water….tough for him…sad for life…if a man like that can’t be forgiven an eggregious past indiscretion such as that how then clearly we are and will always be paying lip service to redeeming our brother and sisters who had their past missteps….

Why EXACTLY should this white man not pay a price for shiite that he has done in his life? …
What gives HIM the right to have HIS slate wiped clean – and to proceed happily to the pinnacle of society?

Why does this (whatever it is) not apply to the average unlucky ghetto youth who are pushed by circumstances – MOSTLY BEYOND his /her control, to do similar shiite? … and then can’t get a BASIC job…?

“The lawyer for Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford said Monday that her client is willing to give testimony about the Supreme Court nominee before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and President Trump believes she should be heard.
Ford is “willing to do whatever it takes” and is not motivated by politics, attorney Debra Katz told NBC News. A Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination is set for Thursday in Washington.

“She believes that if it were not for the severe intoxication of Brett Kavanaugh, she would have been raped,” Katz told the “Today” show.

Kellyanne Conway told Fox News on Monday that President Trump believes that Ford should have her say.
“This woman should not be insulted and should not be ignored,” the Trump adviser said.

She added: “I’ve spoken with the President, I’ve spoken with Sen. Graham and others, this woman will be heard.”

Conway made it clear that the decision whether to allow Ford to testify is up to the committee. She said Sen. Lindsey Graham had told her it could happen as soon as Tuesday and the White House will “respect the process.”

“I think you have to weigh this testimonial evidence from Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh along with the considerable body of evidence that is already there about the judge’s temperament and qualifications and character,” she told Fox News.
