“….Hardwood Housing Factory Inc. is A GOVERNMENT-OWNED company with EGFL holding more than 90% of the shares.” Minister of State, Clyde Mascoll, in a letter dated October 10, 2007 to Opposition Leader, David Thompson, on Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s instructions.

Hardwood Housing Factory Inc. is an example of the BLP’s arrogance and contempt for YOU. It’s a serious matter. You ought to be concerned. Millions of your tax dollars are being spent willy-nilly without accountability. It’s only when the BLP is put under pressure, that you get disclosure.

If David Thompson hadn’t raised the flag by calling for an independent forensic audit at Hardwood Housing Factory, you would’ve never known it’s a GOVERNMENT-OWNED company. All along, citizens were led to believe by Clyde Mascoll that the owner is a “poor little black boy” whom Government was facilitating.

In just one year of operation, Hardwood Housing Factory has gobbled up almost US$2 million of public financing through the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd (EGFL) – the basis of Government’s ownership. The so-called “owner’s” investment was $100,000 representing “the value of the equipment contributed and his sweat equity”. Source: Indicative Term Sheet dated Nov 9, 2006.

Clyde Mascoll has more explaining to do. He needs to give FULLER CLARIFICATION of the nature of his association with the company. Saying “I hold no office or shareholding in the Hardwood Housing Factory Inc.” doesn’t satisfy legitimate questions which remain unanswered. He needs to explain, for example, why an employee would have reason to tell the CEO “nothing will make me compromise the trust that God, MR. MASCOLL and the Board has placed in me”.

When Mascoll announced the establishment of the low income housing project on September 5, 2006, it is also interesting he chose to use “WE” in talking about the factory instead of “THEY”. There are four instances where this was observed in the Nation story of September 6, 2006. Here are three: “WE are going to meet within the next two months or so with the carpenters and masons, and this is a project for small people…. ” “WE are now in the process of developing, along with the BIDC, a formal arrangement where the necessary financing would be accessed.” “The masons will put down the foundations and WE will then install on the predetermined foundation….” Don’t you find this baffling?

In the Sunday Sun of January 21, 2007, Albert Brandford, who comes across in his writings as a loyal Mascoll lieutenant, wrote the following about Mascoll’s role in Hardwood Housing Factory. “…. HE has been able to CONCEPTUALISE AND EXECUTE a vote-catching Hardwood Housing project, in three months, and which, according to media reports, is on course to deliver houses – acknowledged as one of the island’s most pressing social needs – to many Barbadians, including his own constituents in St Michael North-West.”

Mascoll’s repeated use of “WE” when he announced the project, as well as Brandford’s firm assertion that “HE” (Mascoll) was the one who CONCEPTUALIZED and EXECUTED the project, raises serious questions about Mascoll’s involvement. A Government minister’s job is not to CONCEPTUALIZE and EXECUTE a private business project. His role is to serve the public interest. It is a serious conflict of interest. Interestingly, Mascoll has never challenged Brandford’s description of his active role. Doesn’t it seem inappropriate for a minister of the Crown? Barbadians are interested in hearing THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.

THE CREDIBILITY FACTOR

“I look forward to a no-confidence motion tomorrow, Mr. Thompson. I have more credibility than you in Barbados and I will continue to have more credibility than you do….” Clyde Mascoll, Nation, October 15, 2007, speaking about the Hardwood issue, at Perry Gap.

Mascoll is clearly living in a dream world when he speaks about his credibility. Look now at how he puts his foot in his mouth and takes his credibility further below zero. On September 6, 2006, the Nation reported:

Mascoll credited Barbadian Anthony Murrell with the concept, after the latter had supervised the building of 500 houses in Grenada in six months after the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan.” David Thompson investigated and found the figure of 500 was inaccurate.

Here’s Mascoll’s explanation now. “….the issue of whether he (Murrell) built 500 houses in Grenada or not was “neither here or there” (Mascoll’s words). Source: Nation, October 15, 2007. No, Mascoll! The figure is relevant. It’s what you used to establish the builder’s credentials and to justify the project. Credibility is based on consistency. You cannot be serious about your credibility when you made a definitive statement a year ago and now say it is “neither here or there”. IT MATTERS! If you cannot give and keep your word on a simple issue, it raises questions as to whether Barbadians can seriously take anything you say at all.

TERMS OF ECFL INVESTMENT

For putting money into Hardwood Housing Factory, ECFL established certain requirements which the company must meet. Where certain specified breaches occur, ECFL says it “shall be entitled to demand repayment in full of all outstanding monies due regarding the class ‘A’ shares (covering its investment) and to take such action as may
be deemed necessary to protect its interest”.

Such action would apply, for example, “if any creditor shall take action against the Company to enforce payment of monies due to such creditor.” The evidence suggests Hardwood Housing Factory came close to breaching this requirement. Up to August 28, the company had issued bounced cheques totalling $33,000 for various services.
One cheque, for the sum of $4,262.60, was written to the Comptroller of Customs. Management has acknowledged there were cash flow problems. Could some of Hardwood’s business practices have been contributing to the problem?

HARDWOOD’S BUSINESS PRACTICES

Clyde Mascoll recently told us that Hardwood Housing Factory is a GOVERNMENT-OWNED company. As junior minister of finance, he shares responsibility with his “boss man” – Owen Arthur, the minister of finance – to ensure the sound and proper management of public finances. Back in July, a month before the bank declined to honour the cheques, concerns were expressed about certain business practices. These concerns are documented. It would be interesting to hear what Mascoll has to say about them. Will he say these too are “neither here nor there”?

The charges were as follows:

There were sites where work was taking place but the sales department had neither a record of these sites nor receipts for any monies deposited in the company’s bank account for the said work. There were persons who were being paid by the company for doing work which the company had not record of.

If such allegations were made against any other government-owned entity, it would be enough to justify an official audit of the company. Taxpayers would demand no less. As a government-owned company, Hardwood should not be treated differently. A strong case exists for an independent forensic audit of Hardwood Housing Factory.

A situation also exists where equipment used by the company – truck, stone mixer, bobcat, excavator, generators – are owned by the minority shareholder rather than the company itself. The minority shareholder acquired the equipment through lease arrangements with Simpson Finance and Consolidated Finance and, in turn, leases them to the company. Mascoll said this arrangement results in “savings of approximately $44,000 per month to the company”. He did not give details of how this is achieved.

It is alleged that Hardwood covers the cost of maintaining the equipment. Normally under arrangements of this kind, those costs are borne by the owner of the equipment. Just over a month ago, both finance companies wrote the owner, bringing to his attention that payments were in arrears. One company even mentioned the possibility of repossession if the issue wasn’t promptly resolved.

After one year in business, what does Hardwood Housing Factory have to show? SEVEN HOUSES built in the New Orleans for the Urban Development Commission (UDC). Initially, there were cost overruns of $248,000 on this project but the figure was later revised downwards to $129,000 by the UDC. Draw your conclusion! Mascoll has complained that “THE LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF LAND” to build houses, has hindered Hardwood’s ability to deliver on its promises. It is refreshing that a member of the Owen Arthur administration has finally admitted the folly of the BLP’s land policy of aiding and abetting the sale of Barbadian land to the highest bidder who increasingly is foreign.

In the case of one St Peter land owner who was approached, readiness to make land available for low income housing was tied to Town Planning approval of other lands for “high end development”. Hardwood Housing’s experience shows how much the BLP’s ill-advised land policy is having the effect of forcing middle and low income Barbadians out of the real estate market.

A MODEL EMPLOYER?

As a government-owned company, Hardwood Housing Factory has an obligation to be a model employer. If a government-owned company disrespects workers, doesn’t it send a wrong message to private enterprise? In just one year of operation, here’s are blemishes on Hardwood’s image as an employer.

Charges of sexual misconduct against a manager.

Charges that employees are shouted at and abused.

Employing workers whose immigration status was not in order.

Being accused by the Barbados Workers Union of violating
International Labour Organization Convention 94 regarding fair
practices.

Keeping a dog inside the factory in violation of the Factories Act
and pressuring workers to clean up the mess.

SOLID CASE FOR PROBE

Going by available evidence, a solid case does exist for a probe, including independent forensic audit, of Hardwood Housing Factory. This isn’t only David Thompson’s fight. It’s YOUR fight. Demand accountability from the BLP! Tell Owen Arthur it’s time to demonstrate real leadership instead of running away from calls for accountability.

  1. Mascoll needs ro resign immediatly …liar and 2 faced person he is

  2. only me,

You are only an idiot… a lost and lonely little idiot.

  3. This information was posted on the blogs long before the start of the No-confidence motion. Was this an advance preview of the motion that was aired by Thompson in Parliament today. If that is the case, we see a total disregard of our Parliamentary System and should be investigated.

This is the same matter discussed by the speaker.

  4. Could we deal with the facts raised in this contribution? and could anyone (and i do mean anyone) please offer a defense, dispute, rebuttal or rational explantion for ANY of the allegations that were made?

yes, Hardwood is “only ” $2 million, but it speaks volumes to the persistent problem with our present government. When trying to solve (or expose) big problems, one has to start somewhere.

  5. One of the things we have heard a lot about in barbados over the last 8 or so years is this notion of being world class and adhering to world class standards. The BLP and its defenders have been in the forefront of this push to world class status and status. they seem to have abandoned this in the Hardwood debate.

The argument seems to be that bad things have happened at hardwood but there is no direct link to the minister or any clear evidence of him breaking any rules. I strongly suspect that the CEOs and others who have resigned or been fired in the USA over the Sub-prime mortgage crisis could have made such arguments. the differecne is that at the international level the arguments hold no water. Crap happens unde your watch you go whether you were well intentioned or not, or whether there is any direct line to you.

It was pathetic listening to Ms. Thompson attempt to shift blame to the Enterprise Growth Fund. How could the growth fund exercise due diligence with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Financed vouching for the credibility of the firm.

Where is the focus on world class standards now. I was fooled the BLP is intent on keeping political power, the world class chat is just that.

  6. The Minister of state did not seem to mount a defense against teh accusations levelled. He seemed to say that whatever happened can be overlooked because I was well intentioned and there is no evidence of my breaking any rules.

It must be great to be a manager in Bim, zero accountability for what happens under your watch.

The CEOs form wall street who lost their jods over the mortgage crisis must be packing their bags for bim.

  7. It is clear what happened here. Mascoll fresh into Arthur cabinet wanted to impress. He knew that affordable housing is a big problem for Arthur and he held the hand of Murrell a little to tightly to legitimize the application process at EGF.

He maynot be guilty of corruption but he is guilty of poor judgement. He speaks about the Manager giving herself a raise of eleven grand but when it was refused she gave her daughter the raise itstead. This is the reason she was fired.

  8. No confidence motions are essentially about poor judgement that compromises the office. As a bajan who wants to see my country go to the next level, I was disappointed that the Minster’s pleas were not followed by a resignation.

How can we tell young people and others in society about responsibility if we do not hold people at this level accountable. No one is saying the minister is a criminal or a bad person. When you are in such high office you cannot exercise such poor judgement and hold on to your position.

The speaker of the house was horrible today. How could the opposition not walk out after the Leader of government businesses’ attempt to truncate the debate.

  9. silently observing Avatar
    silently observing

mascoll behaved like sad sack in the house today. he did not address the issues raised against him but tried to play the “sympathy” card. he was only helping a poor little black man who was trying to help black people. because of this, he seems to be suggesting that barbadians should overlook the issues. it is time for this joker to leave politics. liz rushes to his defence but it is no surprise. questions were raised about her husband too some time ago. but why does liz have to behave like that all the time? she seems so unfilfilled. she needs a life.

  10. good i glad um over, now Owen is clear to set a date for elections. I can’t wait to see if Bajans gine once again apply the “fallacy of the concequent to the doctrine of the “Royal lie” 😀

  11. How does an idea win favour with the Enterprise Growth Fund based on the fact that it will attract Government support through untendered contracts? Timmy, resign.

    1000 lbs of blubber

Mascoll should exchange voices with Mia. He sounded like a whining pussy cat today. Anyone noticed BLP lap dog Hal Gollop peeping from gallery as Masscoll made a fool of himself.

  13. I must ask why did ASSCOLL choose to shaft Owing and company today with his statement that why worry about his company over $ 2 million when there is so much more to ask about with the ABC Highway contract this was a most revealing statement to me in other words why worry about the small sum of $ 2 million when there is US $ 120 million to be stolen from the taxpayers, I would like to say that he is an idiot but I will refrain from saying this as I believe he knows exactly who he is targeting with his comments and exactly why he said what he said, there is corruption all the way through this gathering of crooks.
He was the complete idiot today and no amount of ranting by mottley and friends will change his position as a looser simple and plain.

  14. Hal Gollop is a poor excuse of a man who is living off of the position of the blp, is this what he wants out of life if so I am sorry for you clown.

  15. If I wuz Liz, I would be the last body tuh talk bout housing.

There are people who are still awaiting the fancy houses she displayed at Country Road.

And who can forget the mess her hussy made with those houses at Kensington Lodge.

Word on the street is that the Government ran away from this no-confidence motion today.
The licks Thompy shared were too hot

  16. It does appear to be very unusual that the no-confidence motion would have been suspended and the parliament revert to regular business to have the motion resumed next week. This comes against a background where Leader of Government business Mia Mottley has repeatedly stated publicly that they will call private members business every Tuesday to force the Leader of the Opposition to respond who has been accused of running from the issue. Well he was prepared to debate the issue yesterday and the government aided by the Speaker has created a potentially embarrassing situation for Barbados with their ensuing action. We have a long history of political stability and good governance in Barbados. This recent machination by the government in parliament is unacceptable.

Lets just put the politics and personalties aside for a moment and look at the issues.

    * $2 million of taxpayers (that knew nothing about it) monies so far put into a Government owned entity that has hardly (no pun intended) produced anything.

    * Government contracts awarded without the required tendering process for projects not remotely related to providing low cost affordable housing.

    * A minority shareholder leasing equipment and then renting it back to the company at a huge profit.
And there seems to be some doubt whether Mr Murrell has actually paid these lease payments.

    * The overall lack of accountability by the Chairman and Directors of the board to regulate the company.

On these grounds alone, someone’s head should roll.

It graphically demonstrates the total contempt this Government has of the people of Barbados, when it can repeatedly squander taxpayers monies with seeming impunity or accountability.

  18. Adrian Loveridge,

We have not forgotten how your sorry and incompetent backside was FIRED by the Barbados government long ago.

    Hahahaha!!!

  19. Anonymous, looks like one of those BIG MOSQUITOS flew right up your as….. and now your backside is all FIRED up.

  20. The amazing thing is that even with all the known facts, the new facts of Mascoll sourcing from Guyana prior to incorporation, the inability of Mascoll to offer ONE legitimate defense of the charges laid against him(cept to say that cheques were deferred, not bounced), the pathetic personal attacks of Liz Thompson (which devalued the debate significantly), the unprecedented about turn AGAIN by Mottley in postponing debate even though she huffed and puffed that they will deal with it whenever it comes, and teh Speaker’s partisan “scolding” of Opposition members for the 2nd week straight…..despite all this, that BLP MPs are going to vote to defeat the motion.

The questions now begs, what will the electorate do, when faced with a callous, uncaring, almost contemptuous government who clearly lacks any form of principles when it comes to integrity, accountability, transparency, sound judgment and decision making, and whose members clearly lack the ability to deal with an serious issue involving OUR TAXPAYERS’ MONEY based on the facts presented.

I love the BLP’s talent, PR and marketing abilities and to some extent what they have done in some areas in teh past 13 years…but all that they have done, and not done in these past 12 months and their refusal to accept any responsibility or at the very least acknowledge my concerns and intelligence as a taxpayer has left my ‘X’ with only one choice come election day. It’s time for a change.

  21. Loveridge was “fired” by George Hats Payne. Immediately afterwards Owen chase way Payne . Whats Roy Morris doing these days? Loveridge “firing’ was based on colour and origins (not indigenous enough) not competence. I am wishing the good people of St. andrew really fire idiot Payne this time around. He is wasting taxpayers time and money in House of Assembly. Loveridge is a man of honour.

  22. Wishing in Vain Avatar

We have a most amazing situation where after on going push for the opposition to debate the motion and they then decide that they are ready, willing and able to proceed the oversized piece of garbage thing decides to run from the debate and bullies the house into a recess and returns to gov’t business, I would suggest that our democratic rights are being taken away.

The statement of the day has to go to the one Malick with teeth ASSCOLL in his patheic sickly manner, could dear it is only a little black boy line just does not cut it, both of you all are smart enough to know that you two conspired to shaft the taxpayers of this nation in no small way.

The statement of the day is when ASSCOLL states that why are they worried about the $ 2 million in his project why not investigate the ABC highway project, this is a very clear statement that implicates the minister of public works and the minister of finance and planning as it strongly suggest by ASSCOLL that GLYNE CLARKE and OWING ARTHUR are stealing out of that project, what a revelation to be made by the idiot ASSCOLL.

Look what gets revealed when this pressure is applied.

    Q//… Thank you.

Absolutely right. I chaired a committee (voluntary/unpaid) of 12 private/public sector tourism people including 4 hoteliers which worked on for two years a national plan to revitalise our small hotel sector.

We managed to get an incredible 72 small hoteliers together for a meeting with ex: Minister Payne at Sherbourne, and as I tried to present our recommendations and he told me to sit down and that he had replaced me, because I ‘was not sufficently indigenous’.

He also instructed the, then head of GIS to ensure a TV interview with me wasn’t shown on CBC that evening.
In fact it was carried on the 7pm News and came up as the lead story at 10pm, but as my picture appeared, the screen went blank.
Sacked Minister Payne also stated at the same meeting he had replaced me with Peter Odle.

To the best of my knowledge none of the recommendations made by that committee have been implemented and subsquently Barbados has seen 27 hotels (mostly small) close down during this Government reign.

Mr Payne’s cousin later became Minister of Tourism and rufused to sit in the same Down to Brass Tacks Sunday studio as me on 25th March this year.

  24. At the next parliamentary session what they should be debating is a “no confidence motion” in the speaker of the house.

I let out a loud stupse when the leader of the opposition seemed reluctant to debate the motion last week. I stupsed even louder when the Leader of Government Business attempted to postpone the debate.

I was shocked and appalled by the speaker’s ruling. That ruling left the opposition no choice but to walk out. His subsequent comment about the leader of the opposition was way below his office.

The opposition should bring a motion of no confidence in the speaker of the house.

‘He (Mascoll) also said Murrell’s work was evident on two websites:

    http://www.crossroads.ca

    and

    http://www.samaritansfirst.org

Well I really must be missing something, because I cannot find any reference to Mr Murrell or the fact he ‘had built 280 to 300 houses, and trained people to errect temporary structures’ on Grenada.

Just to be sure, I have emailed both organisations and asked them to confirm and clarify their relationship with Mr Murrell.

  26. Wishing in Vain Avatar

I put it to you that ASSCOLL delivered the single largest blow to Owing and his gang of crooks by his statement that they ought to investigate the ABC highway project, that was the the shot of the day.

For general information neither of the two websites that ASSCOLL provided are doing his cause any good one site forwards to http://onlinebookz.net/?rid=911310 and the other has no mention of Grenada.

Maybe when he thinks about lying he would do us a favour and stop abuseing the house of assembly to do so, this man is a sick liar.

    Well done Adrian

  28. Mr Loveridge, over the years I have always spared a moment to listen to your contribution as you oftentimes at a different spin to things. However this time around you are showing your true silly colour(s). Let me take some time out to enlighten you so as to not allow you to fall totally out of grace. I will make an attempt to address some of your concerns.

    1. 1 Million dollars was injected as equity into Hardwood Housing as initial startup capital (as a business man if you have any serious interest in this affair) you would have noted how the money was spent and realised honestly that 1 million was not enough to have the company fully functioning at it’s full capacity. The second Million came some 7-8 months later to help with the rising overdraft facility at BNB. ( I know that you are smart enough to realise that the company is building houses and therefore a few things must be taken into consideration.

    (a) Person that do have land have like anyone else get town and country planning permission.

    (b) Houses with approval have to have land marked out, foundation dug, floor poured etc. this takes time.

So after a company is official launched in Mar/April of 2007 and already did 1.5 million dollars and taking into consideration the above please reconsider your above point.

    Point number 2.

Again I address you as a businessman, HHF is a private company funded by a government entity, (I am absolutely sure that you have received financing in the past.) Is HHF limited to only building low income houses, where is that documented.

    Point number 3

Tell me where in this world it was ever a problem with any sensible business persons. Having more than one comapny doing business with each other, if you start you are going to touch almost every company in Barbados. You are grossly misinformed as it relates to huge profits as the monthly cost to the company has drastically reduced as a result of this agreement.

    point number 4. No Point.

Now to deal with you post “have I missed something”

Mr Mascoll in his passion may have quoted sites rather than associates who Mr. Murrel worked with. Samaritans(First)purse is an international organisation doing missions the world over, there is documented prove of his association with them in Grenada( and the criminal calling herself a pastor)giving Thompson the information knows this).

Crossroads is an international organisation doing missions the world over also, there is documented prove of his association with them in Grenada( and the criminal calling herself a pastor)giving thompson the information knows this). Check http://www.lehmanfamily.ca you will see the cross roads team and you will surely see Mr. Murrel there as the coordinator.

As it relates to the houses built there are person right here in Barbados who can confirm such, but there is a beast who for personal gain would try to deny it. However, you go back to your old newspapers, you would notice that the beast was the one who said that 500 houses were built.

To Mr. Observing, you need to know the facts as truth. Until you do stop posting sh%^.

This not about Mr. Mascoll and David Thompson, this is about the truth as it happened.

It is all about greed by a woman who hates Mr. Thompson’s guts, but for the sake of malice, joined him to destroy a ‘poor black boy’.

  29. It was one Owen Seymour Arthur who said he was tired about hearing about the “small black man.”

Do not be fooled Mia is please to see Clyde bleed over this one. His credibility has been shot and his ascent in the BLP leadership stakes halted.

  30. Wishing in Vain,

    Your name speaks for itself.

Both Crossroads and Samaritanspurse were in grenada. the site crossroads.ca does have mention of Grenada and the site lehmanfamily.ca who formed part of the crossroads Grenada team, clearly shows Mr. Murrel as coordinator.

Samaritanspurse have a brief writeup on Grenada, however, with a company doing missions everyday do you think that 3 years after you would find much.

There is enough documented proof to show Mr. Murrel’s association with these organisations.

I beg you as a fellow Barbadian, please don’t join in the rush for political gain.

Mr Thompson is gathering his info from a lady not to be trusted. I know that for a fact. I wish I could have told him so before he started.

  31. My friend you can talk until the cows come home you and Murrell are guilty as charged you conspired to steal $ 2 million of us the taxpayers monies in your little scam against we the citizens of Barbados.
Your problem is that from the sidelines you have sat and watched just how much money Owing and his gang have stolen and you decide to jump in and get your share, the difference between you and Owing is that he has a clearly setup middle man in Hallam Nicholls to do his deals for him but you are attempting to do the same with someone who is incapable of carrying out an eloborate plan as is required.

You have been part and parcel of this thing called HARDWOOD HOUSING and its fraud let us not even address the issues of rape etc, what you must understand is that you will not be allowed to undertake dishonest acts and not expect to be brought to justice.

Honestly you need a cell at DODDS reserved for you use, you are a dishonest bastard.

  32. By ASSCOLLS own admission in his press conference where he stated that it matters nothing that he Murrell did or did not assemble houses in Grenada.

  33. with a company doing missions everyday do you think that 3 years after you would find much.

Are you devoid of any sense of the matter at hand, why would you state on public TV that these are two sites that you refer to that fail to work or show nothing, that was totally dumb.

  34. Insider:

There are many reason why this lady should have been fired, many.

I am not a B, D or Z, but I know the lady very well.

  35. She gets fired after his attempt to rape her????

  36. Adrian Loveridge Avatar

    Rejoice..

As you give the impression you are well informed then let us all see the lease documents, payment schedule and invoices from Mr Murrell to Hardwood Housing Factory Inc.

    You said:

‘you would notice that the beast was the one who said that 500 houses were built’.

Are you suggesting Mr Mascoll is the beast?

‘Mascoll credited Barbadian Anthony Murrell with the concept, after the latter had supervised the building of 500 houses in Grenada in six months after the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan’.

‘ The St. Michael North West MP said that in the initial stages between 20 to 25 houses could be produced monthly’.

Both these verbatim quotations were in 6th September 2006 article entitled ‘Home to Go’ by Wade Gibbons in the Nation.

  37. In Vain.

Who you think void of sense. Mascoll stated that he met Mr. Murrell at the handing over of a house in Ashdeane (Barbados) which Mr. Murrell built for an elderly couple. He also visited other houses built by Mr. Murrell.

His confidence in Mr. Murrell never stemmed from his tenure in Grenada.

  38. Is the building of the 500 houses a big issue? I thought the $2 million was… or the sexual assault cases … or the employment of Guyanese … or the absence of houses… or the sourcing of wood by the Minister.

Don’t let Grenada side-track you, on any one ground Mascoll stands condemned!

  39. HE sold the idea of investing the $2 million of our taxpayers dollars in this venture on the sham of he built 500 homes in 3 months in Grenada this is 5 1/2 homes produced per day, this was your motivation as was clearly stated by you.

I agree with ASSCOLL on one aspect of this debate and that is we obviously need now to investigate the ROAD WORKS PROJECT ABC, DANOS and 3S.

  40. In Vain

You, like the opposition leader, just clutching at straws.

He made an error by listing Mr. Murrel’s association with the international missions as websites.

  41. Here goes Voice of Barbados again trying to edit overwhelming public opinion. Today December 5, 2007 at 11.20 am as the general public reacts to the situation in Parliament yesterday, David Eliis now want those who think it was handled well by the government to call the station program Down to Brass Tacks at one telephone number, and those who think it was not handled well on separate number. Now this announced policy for today is not a survey. It is an attempt to ensure as he puts it, ” that there is ‘balance’ and both sides views are aired. I think this is really interfering with the airing of surge of opinion in the country generallyl. I think that VOB should stop this fooolishness. I am getting fed up. They are tryimg to control output from the public to appease the powers that be. It seems that another $60,000 pay out must be avoid at all costs.

As I stated earlier I enjoy the fact that you come with other views, however, please don’t let your hated for the current Government cloud your judgement.

Was anything about 500 houses placed in the proposal for funding?

Don’t come with smoke screens, lets deal with the pertinent points.

Tell me this Adrian, is Mr. Murrell capable of building these houses? The evidence speaks for itself. Did Mr. Mascoll approve the funding? How could he, EGFL is very capable of assessing business plans and the viability of such.

I think EGFL did a wonderful and it would very soon speak for itself.

Now lets look at this with a different spin. HHF was established to provide lower income housing. We all know and that includes the opposition leader that housing problems was number one on the list of things the opposition would come after the government with in the upcoming elections. If for one minute HHF acquires land to build the houses that it is capable of building in a short space of time, two things would happen.

    1. We poor people would have the opportunity to own our own home.

    2. The opposition leader would have to look for other issues to bring to the table, as the housing issue even though not being solved, would be addressed.

When I see you we will have a chat about who the real beast is.

  43. VOB as of last Sunday has lost all creditabilty in my books, the moderator with her loyal party status showed her bias from the moment the show began.

  44. Today is my Birthday, and i have gotten a gift that i did not expect. I honestly search high and low for a way that public perception at the end of this no-confidence would have been kind to Thompson for i believed, and did so from the perspective of what would pertain in the court of public opinion that this called for a no-confidence motion was not a good idea. I also did premise this concern with the view that if Thompson did not bring new evidence and strong new evidence he was doomed in the public eye. Well he didn’t disappoint, and it seems to have put the BLP in a spin. Wow. Two things occurred that i believe struck fear in the heart of the BLP.

1: Mascoll comment and attempt to trade off one accusation against the government for another and there by implicating a fellow party member. That to my mind introduce a level of uncertainty, that Mia could not let play out. Remember my comment about “oil and water” BLPites.

2: Thompson introduction of new evidence that demanded a response from Mr. Mascoll. It is the type of evidence that Mascoll must know whether it is true or not.

….and this is in the backdrop of a BLP that first attempted to force the Thompson to bring the motion, then sought to embarrass him into bringing it by scheduling every tuesday until he did, and when thompson finally did, they sought to postpone it in a way that tells me they have something to hide.

  45. In Vain

Please tell me honestly what Mr. Mascoll did wrong?

Or is it only because he is not in your party.

  46. rejoice are you really convinced the Minister of State acted properly as far as the firm hardwood Housing was concerned.

Errors of judgement by a Minister are hardly enough to condemn a government. Prime Ministers fore ministers all the time. What may condemn a government is the failure to discipline Ministers who acted in a manner not befitting their office.

No one is calling the Minister of State a criminal, a bad person or even incompetent. the issue is that his involvement seems to go way beyond the remit of any government minister. One must both be and appear to be above board.

Your posts on this issue smack of blind party loyalty. The PM has fired Ministers for less.

  47. What is the new evidence Mr. Hinds

  48. Rejoice, you keep missing the point. people in positions of power have to take responsibility for what happens under their watch. you saw what happened to the ceos of the banks and other business places in the usa and europe as a result of the mortgage crisis. what did they do that was wrong” if crap happens under your watch then you take the blame.

It is clear that a lot of crap happened at hardwood, while it was actively being advocated for by the Minister of state.

  49. It is indeed funny that this was touted as the solution to our housing issues but to date they have a massive sum of what 7 homes out there, one would have thought with such a need for these homes that there would have been in wide distribution and in every nook and cranny of Barbados, but to my amazement there is little or no real movement towards these houses.

All smoke screen and fireworks ASSCOLL you are deemed a totally dishonest person.

  50. Floyd, you are so very wrong as it relates to party loyalty.

I just happen to know, just like some of Thompson’s other opposition members that this is folly.

Mr. Mascoll saw an opportunity to help a man trying to expand his business, the gentleman was going to BNB for financing. Due to the nature of the business it did not make sense to have that kind of financing so the alternative was for Mr. Murrell to have a business plan done by BIDC ( this is nothing new) and submitted to EGFL.

If you can show me Mr. Mascoll involvement after that please let me know.

And BTW what was Mr. Mascoll to gain, or what have he gained.
