The blogmaster searched for a recording of the meeting to satisfy a mild curiosity about what the former Prime Minister had to add to the national discourse. Try as we might only a 1 minute clip has surfaced so far on social media.

I would like to hear the rest of the speech to get some context as snippets can give the wrong impression, but I am unsure as to why the DLP would put him on an Election platform when he has hardly appeared before the rank and file at constituency meetings and this coming so soon after his electoral disaster.
But does Freundel give a damn? I don’t think so, he ignored all advice from within and outside Gov’t circles and marched to the beat of a different drummer even when that drummer led him over the cliff….

I am seeing some moments of poitical hari kiri in this election. One of them was Rev Atherley switching constituencies AFTER an election was called. If Atherley had any hope of winning a seat, I would think it would be in one that he ran in 5 times and won three times (albeit on the coat tails of party support) and with the two major parties fielding new candidates.
He now goes to a constituency that has an incumbent running and little signs that the incumbent (Arthur Holder) will loose that seat.
Allowing Freundel Stuart to speak on a platform 3 years after he was astoundingly rejected is close to another one. I am thinking that the electorate is looking for the DLP to disassociate itself from that administration as much as possible. To be fair it will be interesting to find out if he was asked to speak or he himself asked the party. If it is the latter then out of politeness having a former PM who did defeat Owen Arthur in an election as leader of the DLP .is no “kill cow” so to speak. In my mind he should only have limited platform time or it WILL be a kill cow moment. Freundel has an opposite effect on the DLP that a normal (former) party leader has on a party. Lets just say the less we see of Freundel right now the better for the DLP and all of Barbados.
If Stuart utterances have no impact why is this the topic of conversation on the ground and across social platforms? You are one who brags about having your ears to the ground in the social media bubble in which you exist.

Very disappointed. I do not subscribe to the vilification of FS, but that statement must be the kiss of death to any candidate.
He makes it all about him. The midst of a political campaign is no time for him to try to rehabilitate his image.
Why would Stuart provide the BLP with such a soundbite? There is a difference between being ashame and being arrogant. It might be best if he was not invited to meetings.

For the DLP, I would like to see the entire old guard in the campaign, including Big Sinck and Donville Inniss. D.I. in particular would be ideal for the hard core of DLP supporters who don’t take the law too seriously, but at the same time would scare off ordinary citizens.

I have long realized that there are two basics of human behaviour … you never apologize for your actions or you step back ask for forgiveness and then move on.

A story to illustrate …..
Many years ago I wrote an article in a college newspaper that was a bit too sarcastic in it’s critique of a top politician … a professor took me to task and I stepped back and offered an apology … in my next writeup.
Alas, another professor spoke to me directly and he too took me to task but for APLOGIZING. He was adamant that unless I did something truly wrong (which of course I hadn’t) that I should never show ‘weakness’ and back down to offer obsequious apologies.
That of course I later realized is a mantra of the finest political treatises … the ‘Prince’ being one! … That Fruendel is the latest to embrace it in that clip surprises no one steeped in politics .
So back to @Hants post … what’s there to worry about … he will not impact this election POSITIVELY [for the Dems or otherwise] and those who supported him are glad to see and hear him … let’s move on from him …

I am yet to meet someone who does not appreciate a heartfelt apology. Such an act shows STRENGTH not weakness to those with whom I associate.

In listening to social media postings of the DLP old guard (-Lowe whom I haven’t heard and Lashley who hasn’t said anything relevant) the tact is we had a strong government, we did very well.
Does this surprise us any more than MAM’s authoritarian and autocratic style?
