the govt has proposed very good plans to bring agriculture out of the old methods that goes back to the days of horse and buggy and initiatives which will bring agriculture within present day workable and durable plans,,,,,,,,.. yet we got the same old foggies regurgitating like a parrot what they hear and not understanding that in a world where technology rules ,,the old methods of the old have long past their prime and any thing short of addressing issues which can be of forex bearing in respect of agriculture is like blowing smoke in the air to start a fire,,,,,,,every one seems to be solely looking at sugar from the cane industry as the major source of forex however the plans to revitalise sugar is only a small step and that alone would not be sufficient to draw any long lasting financial effect and growth for the industry to survive,,,,the pm is aware and many of his initiatives connects the sugar cane industry with other sources within agriculture as a form of security whereby sugar is not solely independant but is interdependent on other sources to survive,,,,,

From whence has technology taken the forefront in the things of Government? And to what end you now believe that this technology will be able to the job in an environment where the land is being sold to create concrete-culture. Now when you talk about technologies re sugar what exactly do you mean. Pimpy. Are these technologies aimed at the deriving value added byproducts out of the illustrious sugar cane plant. that can be FOREX generating. Will we research the niches for these technological derive advances in our research after we discover an agricultural valuable that we can work with?.Are we gonna engage in large scale blackbelly sheep husbandry with the intention of establishing meat processing facilities with technologies and infrastructure that are up to international standards for export. Now since sugar was King after tobacco fell from grace, large scale production of the two resulted in untold riches for the migrated plantocracy to Barbadiana. Now that the plantocracy has shriveled up, what agriculture produce that can be generated from the land in large quantities that would have export potential and the potential to reap handsomely the much needed FOREX. What are they Pimpy. The current research endeavour by the UWI is to achieve research that will catapult agriculture production for the generating of sustainable produce for local consumption. What are agriculture initiative will be large enough and sustainable enough for us to get into the niches overseas. Remember cunty we want to do two things: reduce or food import bill and generate FOREX through potential exports.. Are we going to create the type of companies that will see us producing our own brand of cornflakes, wheat base oats or what ever else we think we can produce for the export market? You see cunty the FOREX has to be generated from what we do with what ever agriculture produce we expect to engage our scientific brains with. Then followed by the establishing of processing operations , like what is being done with cassava, breadfruit and sweet potato for the production of an alternative flour. Now if we start our marketing campaigns and additional research on the benefits of these three indigenous process products we might just tap into the American and European markets even the regional markets as well.. We just need a couple of those top chefs to come down there and try them out in a variety of ways So Pimpy, as per usual you make generalizations on the basis that you have to fulfill the agenda of your puppet master.. Should we not be increasing production of food in a sustainable way in order to reduce the forex spent and the “bonus” would be increased food security.
FOREX earned should not be spent on food we can produce.
I will not speak to the merits of growing Sugar Cane.We have enough experts on BU to deal with that.

Man you are smart. How much of the 800 million import food bill would we need to resurrect or develop an agricultural portfolio. I would think that if 30 million out of that 800 million was to create a control green house environment on the lands of the ministry of agricultural on an experimental level we would be able to determine yields and responses to plant produce under controlled conditions. In addition we could intensify or meat base animals with additional infrastructure for controlled farming as well. Now if I take 300 million out of that 800 million to intensify farming do not think that we can gain significant savings and returns on an investment like that. The only problem is if we have the land to do it on… What you think Mr. Hants you seem very informed.

Tonight on the CBC News we heard a segment from Edward Cumberbatch,relating to the Scotland District.
Now here is a man who is very familiar with the mechanics and behavior of the Scotland District,and who has been ignored by successive governments over the years, with things dealing with the Scotland District and Agriculture in general. The Scotland District was Mr Cumberbatch’s back yard, having spent his early days at the small Richmond Plantation,(now the Flower Forest) next door to the now abandoned village of Mount Wilton Scotland, and has worked for many years, managing the Soil Conservation Project, which appears to have come to a standstill, if not a reversal, since the exit of Mr Cumberbatch.
There was a time when traveling up Morgan Lewis Hill, one could have observed well maintained terraces on hilly land on the eastern side ,as part of the construction to prevent soil erosion .This was the work of Mr Cumberbatch and his industrious team.
Speaking under correction, but I do not believe that Mr Cumberbatch was never officially recognised for the outstanding work that he has done in the Scotland District.
