This video raised its ugly rh head in Barbados last evening.

The more discerning among us are aware racism and bigotry are unwelcome human characteristics present everywhere humans exist. We accept human beings are imperfect creatures. However, it does not mean when these unsavoury qualities show its ugly head that civil society should not promote relevant policies and other measures as requires to nurture tolerance and educate fellow citizens in the interest of growing a wholesome society.

The mouthings from the person in the video is the result of many things which Barbadians have known and been tardy to addressing over the years. Crypto racism has been discussed often enough in this forum- for years. It must be addressed in a structured way. Spouting balderdash is easy for some but it will take much more to excoriate the scourge of racism and bigotry that has metastasize over centuries.

    The issue is not Cliff Corbin, the issue is the White supremacist racism that still disfigures Bajan society 187 years after the abolition of slavery here.

    So….. if the new car dealerships shut down and we buy second hand cars from small black dealers and the government gets less revenue to spend back with the same white businesses and we have more money in our pockets to spend with our own…..

    White people have done a number on us! Hiding us away in the back, presenting us as unaccomplished dummies to the world! Many of us have bought into their lies but no more!

    And as one commenter noted, they have committed the most heinous and violent acts in history and still manage to present us as the most violent savages and a threat to the world.

    And Lawson is forever mentioning a few backward beach bums that propositioned his young daughters! Typical racist trope!

    Nobody in my sphere is looking longingly at Lawson’s daughters. Certainly none of my male family members have any use for them.

    I am focused on the evil, not on the law. The evil is White supremacist racism. I seek to eradicate it. It is useful for me to bring it into the sunlight when given the public outbursts of idiots like Cliff Corbin, but Cliff Corbin is not the issue, White supremacist racism is the issue. Note that I am not talking about some dictionary definition of racism in an abstract context… I am talking about White supremacist racism in the context of Barbados history and society.

    This is not about “racists regardless of skin colour” this is about White supremacist racism in Barbados 187 years after the abolition of slavery.

    John has little credibility on the blog regarding race issues. We should pity him. Race is a big issue in Barbados. The blogmaster recalls the attack by Barbados Free Press and others labeled BU a racist blog because race discussion was taken to an uncomfortable level. Older Bajans prefer to avoid conflict and to bandaid an issue like race relations/reconciliation.

Are we saying those innocent children are too black too be white or too white to be black? What about the companies owned by mixed owners like Terrefic Tiles what do we do with them? That is a long lasting partnership between Mr Hoyte and the Goddards group. Do we then only boycott half the showroom? What do we do with the Williams Group of companies that Bizzy is chairman of. Are you aware that a large majority of his companies are owned by his own staff who are his black shareholders? How does one boycott those companies? Do we only boycott 48% of the showrooms then?

    The approach that you are recommending is flawed beyond reason. Deal with the perpetrators of ALL race crimes. I see in the USA they have so far charged hundreds for the madness of January 6th. If Trump can be proven to be the instigator well charge his fat tail too. Do not however charge his 3rd cousin because he too has the Trump name.

    Also we should enquire of Lawson (and the other redneck ‘John’) why are there so many so-called light skin people in Barbados including the same John Knox who has been daubed with the plantation tar brush but still feels he can ‘pass for white’ like many other Bajans of mulatto origin.

    Didn’t these ‘light-skin’ products come about as a result of ‘forced’ sexual encounters aka rape on the plantations between enslaved African women and European male savages?

    If Europeans viewed the Africans as inferior beings taken from the wild to be humanized what does that say about whites who engaged in non-consensual sex with the same so-called uncultured animals?

    How more of a ‘savage’ can you be by engaging in such acts of bestiality?

    The prolonged raping of black women ought to be an agenda item in considering any claims for reparations in respect of black chattel slavery. The trail of evidence for such a claim of severe sexual abuse of the black female (and some males) ancestors can be found all around Barbados today.

    Sometimes I think I’m the only attentive observer on BU. Don’t you see the pattern?

    In the summer, Denny initiated the Nelson riots. Now Corbin is initiating new riots. In both cases Barbados was in lockdown with rising mass unemployment. It is therefore very clear to me that the puppet masters are pulling the strings in the shadows. Nameless powers set blacks and whites on each other to consolidate their own rule. Divide et impera! Denny and Corbin are just puppets on strings to distract the public from the dire economic situation and the further threat of national bankruptcy.

    My point here is that this is a discussion worth having as long we do so in a rational manner based on reality.

    The Jews have not forgotten the holocaust and they have ensured that they have moved forward regardless of it, some will even say because of it. What we must do is follow their examples and pool money for greater investment opportunity. The Indians here have also done this very successfully in all areas of the economy. They are billions of dollars owned by black investors sitting in bank accounts doing nothing. Take up some of that and open businesses that can compete with the established ones. Mr Bynoe at Carlton has done it so can others. As a people we have the economic power sitting on the banks catching dust while we bitch and moan here on a blog.

    Have you seen watchmen series

    HBO’s Watchmen’s first episode paid homage to that smiley when a drop of blood falls from the hanged Judd Crawford’s body onto his sheriff’s badge. Even before that, however, Angela Abar arranges a smiley face made of egg yolks, with a little smidge of blood visible at the top. It’s the egg homage to the original smiley face that eventually gives way to this Watchmen’s predominant visual motif: the egg itself.

    Eggs are all over Watchmen. As Angela makes her egg smiley face in episode 1, she teachers her son Topher’s class how to make bánh pía and discusses the properties of egg whites and egg yolks. In the show’s second episode, Will Reeves frees himself from Angela’s kitchen prison to go buy some eggs to hard boil. Episode four introduces us to the Clark family, farmers on the edge of Tulsa who sell their eggs on the side of the road.

    Then in the show’s final two episodes, the egg becomes an important totem to the show’s actual endgame. Jon Osterman a.k.a. Doctor Manhattan conjures an egg out of thin air when Angela asks him to prove his godly powers. Later when Angela asks whether Jon can transfer his power to others he says that it is theoretically possible if he transfers his power to organic material and then it’s consumed by someone else. Organic material like an egg, perhaps?

    Eggs are important in Watchmen because they are an important part of the themes it’s trying to communicate. While the original Watchmen dealt with masked vigilantes in a world on the edge of nuclear annihilation, this one deals with America’s racist, past, present, and likely future. In other words, it deals with generations and how they interact with one another. Angela Abar not only meets her long lost grandfather, she gets to experience what he experienced many years ago. Lady Trieu not only meets her own powerful father, she tries to prove that she can save the world more effectively than he can.
    Dealing with the mistakes and triumphs of our ancestors is important to Watchmen. But even more important to the show is dealing with their pain. Watchmen raises an interesting (and potentially real) psychological concept in its fifth episode, the Looking Glass centric “Little Fear of Lightning.” As Wade Tillman hosts a support group for those effected by the inter-dimensional squid attack, one young attendee reveals that he still feels the psychic trauma of the event even though he wasn’t there…because his mother was there

    Watchmen is ultimately a story of intergenerational trauma. And if you’re telling a story of intergenerational trauma, an egg is a pretty apt emblem to adopt. Eggs are widely recognised symbols of fertility, procreation, and potential. An egg is a building block for life, easily understood by all.

    The egg also proves to be a versatile symbol. There are so many idioms about eggs that Watchmen is able to use them to tie its proposition about generational pain into other themes. When Angela realizes that she was the one who unwittingly told her grandfather about the Klan robe in Judd Crawford’ closet, she reacts with horror. Who really killed Judd Crawford: Angela or Will? Jon can only chuckle and muse “what came first: the chicken or the egg.” The egg question is here to help conceptually represent the difficult paradoxes that Jon’s time-hopping consciousness creates.
    The show also presents the phrase “you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.” In episode three Laurie uses the phrase as part of her joke to describe Veidt’s violent approach to saving the world. The second time it’s brought up is in the finale when Will tells Angela that idiom at Doctor Manhattan’s behest. It’s a phrase that Angela will recognize the importance of at the proper moment. That proper moment comes when Angela realizes Doctor Manhattan may have left a power-imbued egg behind. Angela discovers an unbroken egg in a carton of smashed ones. Remembering Jon’s words she consumes the egg and attempts to walk on water to see if Jon was right. We never get to see if he was.
    The thing about symbols is that they don’t have to necessarily be useful tools within the context of the story to be important. For eight episodes, eggs are important to Watchmen as a visual motif. Then it is final episode, Watchmen elevates an egg to an object of potential world-altering import.

    No we are not. Exactly the opposite. I boycott White owned businesses that refuse or decline to take a publicly stance strongly condemning White supremacist racism, specifically in the face of public idiocy like that perpetrated by Cliff Corbin. So I pay attention and take note of the differences between Bizzy Williams and COW Williams and treat them accordingly. I work to provoke ALL White owned businesses to take a loud public stance strongly condemning White supremacist racism, even without any instance of public idiocy.

    Why White owned businesses? Because White supremacist racism is basically a problem within the White community and the business class are the de facto leaders of that community. White supremacist racism in Barbados is not my problem, it is a problem 100% owned by White people in Barbados. It is 187 years past due for them to fix their problem. I will keep prodding them.

    I have many White Bajan friends and White expat friends… some of them married to Black spouses. They all, to one degree or another, take personal responsibility for fighting against White supremacist racism, otherwise I would not be calling them my friends. One of the most delightful things that I have experienced in the past few years since returning to Barbados is forming deep friendships with young White Bajans who are determinedly fighting White supremacist racism in Barbados. This gives me great joy, so I never paint all White people with the same brush.

    I agree with that approach and do the same. I am blessed with friends of all colours and I say blessed because they all have different views on life. To me idiots come in all colours and I free myself from them quickly. Wife always saying I have no patience for fools. Lol

    What I have noticed is that the race thing is not as much a problem among the younger bajans. Several of my friends have mixed kids, who date either black or white friends and as their fathers say who married the opposite race ” as long as they threat my daughter well I am happy for them.”

    Let me ask you a question, if you were white and had a daughter would you not prefer to see them date a decent coloured guy than a white idiot like Clifford?

    The challenge does not come from those capable of reason it comes from the radicals on either side. Sadly it is impossible to reason with these as they paint all with the same brush be they white or black. I mean you wanted a worst display of white “red neck ” behaviour than what was exhibited on January 6th in the USA and that was white against white!

    there have been many rich black entertainers from Billie Holliday to Ella Fitzgerald to Nina Simone to Smokey Robinson to James Brown to beyond into Hip Hop samples and artists

    In closing let me say this final thing. We as bajans have billions of dollars sitting in the banking system. Take some of it up and invest in ventures to compete with established businesses. If all we do is sit and complain about the past the future will not improve for any of us.

    As if we are to each canvass the thinking of all White people before we are to say that racism, as a system, was created by Whites to serve Whites and still represent the bedrock of reality.

    The great Malcolm X put it best in response to this question when he observed that that question should not be considered by us. That we should love our own. At that stage of his development there was no fiction about the oneness of mankind for him.

    We wonder when those who approach this subject as if there is not a history have also first interrogated their White friends about the enduring structural racism upon which today’s Whiteness is solidly constructed.

    Clifford Corbin (CC) and his second man, a black rasta, did work for me years ago.

    I spent most of my time with the second man … won’t name him .. as he worked the machinery.

    CC kept it running.

    He had some weird ideas.

    His second man used to laugh at him behind his back but he still worked for him.

    If the video was taken by the second man I met I can understand why, probably wanted to teach him a lesson and get a laugh.

    The problem for the second man is that he is probably out of a job.

    CC probably won’t get much work now.

    CC was steeped in the same mentality of victimhood to which many Bajans cling.

    Always somebody did him something.

    Guess the alleged accident sent him off and he needed a scapegoat.

    Hopefully he will learn his lesson this time and his second man will get his laughs!!

    Both will probably lose out.

    No one can school me about investment markets as they never knew me have me credential.

    Could be that the “second man” finally understands the concept of short term pain for long term gain.

So since I am older than you I will give you a little wisdom take your cpp at 60 and at 65 get your old age because it takes till 72 before it equals out . Most people fare better .
