If the late great Gladston Holder were alive he would take the opportunity to remind us that it does not matter who is elected to the White House, it the wealthiest families in the USA where the power is located- the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers et al. That said many will agree party colours aside, Trump’s legacy will be remembered as being one of the most bigoted and divisive.

Let it be no secret this blogmaster cannot wait to see the back of the man. He has disgraced the office of president of the USA and by extension the human race.

It is boring counting down and besides, some on here have problems with numbers.

Ah @555 re your 8:29: that’s life in “normal circumstances”. We pay attention and are attracted to things that are out-of-the-ordinary NOT matters of state which are really quite mundane!

As soon as Pres Biden gets his first scandal or contrived kerfuffle we will blog endlessly about him TOO…. for now its ‘steady as it goes’.

And that slips me into your point Mr Blogmaster re “Did Trump promise to build a wal, a big huge wall? Did Mexico pay for it? […] #nutjobtoexitstageleft”.

Who are the REAL nutjobs tho!

The crazy as a fox POTUS or we, the ones trying to track the sly fox!

How did that ole sweet song go… sly mongoose dont know yah name … or is it ‘sly mangoose, we all know yah name’!

Still de mangoose dem, ‘does still steal into de “whiteman” kitchen and steal he food’!

    Sly Mongoose.

We knew candidate Trump was talking pure cow dung with that Mexico wall payment nonsense but millions of people STILL voted to elect him and millions more tried to reelect the man.

“Sly Mongoose, everybody know your name”. …..But he still running free and is wildly leading us all bout de place!

    We are the nutjobs!

And from one nut to all others: have a cracklingly warm Bajan Christmas wherever you are; may your succesaes be magnified and your stressors diminished.

And further to you Mr Blogmaster and family: continued blog prosperity into 2021.

    Peace !

  17. What logic is this from Mariposa? What did the Pelosi’s House ask for? The $600 was a compromise based on the fact that half a loaf is better than none. Literally! Pelosi is obviously hoping to win the Senate and then do another top up.

Hardly likely but possible. But even so, when Americans start getting evicted by the millions even the Grim Reaper will have to relent somewhat.

  21. One man’s perception
    2016 – 2020
These past few years has turned my notions of the world we live in upside-down. This is not meant to be personal, but it would give me no pleasure to have nuclear conflagrations if it meant or did not mean the second coming of Christ. Even worse than such a conflagration was the first coming of trimp.

All of the norms were thrown out the window; extremely bad behavior was excused, forgiven and explained away; his racist comments and policies, his support of racists and his ignorant opinions were embraced by far more people than one would expect. Even those, who when they leave the safety of their homes, could be subjected to increase harm in a trimp world, loved him from the safety of their sofa.

A receding tide lowers all ships. Prior to 2020, if you asked me which country would demonstrate an ability to successfully handle a pandemic, I would be the first to jump up and go “USA, USA, USA …”. But time has shown us what harm a bold ignorance in high place can inflict. Instead of being raised to level of competence of others, with a few well placed “yes men”, he was able to pull them down to his level of incompetence. What little respect or confidence the world had in us, he managed to strip away.

Nobody knows what 2021 will bring, but I sense that the American spirit is being restored. Even as trimp tries to remain relevant with his outrageous assertions I can feel my belief in this country being restored. Indeed his action can be seen as the thrashing and writhing of a dying beast.

If there is one lesson, that we can learn from the past four years it is that we (the US) have a long way to go. We papered over many of the faults in our country, but trimp was a lance to our ugly pimple and allowed stored us pus to ooze out. Now, we need to be honest with ourselves, pay attention to our faults, face up to our issues and continue to make an effort to make America a beacon of light in this world.

A new day is dawning. Pray for the best. Go USA.

  22. So are you saying you are not taking the vaccine his administration made possible …..that is like advances in medicine that came out of the holocaust that were shunned by jews.If that is the case I will say you are consistant, have integrity and it was nice knowing you.

  23. Sorry to remind you, but even after Limbaugh dies his spirit will live on. There’s plenty more where he came from. And 73 million willing to believe his successor. What happens if Trump Jr. takes the mic at daddy’s broadcast station?

You will not be rid of this toxicity for a long long time. Not for a generation or so.

P.S. You were never a beacon of light to some of us who could see clearly and read some history books, even recent history or newspapers. I never bought the fake narrative. Nasty racist cesspool.

  27. We know we are highly flawed. We started badly and we continue to stumble along the way.

Perhaps, we were naive in believing that the election of BO as President signaled that we were on an uphill march. trimp served to remind us that we must fight for every inch of progress and that we should take nothing for granted as the racists are as determined to maintain the status quo as we are as determined to change it.

But I am convinced, that there are many good Americans who will work and fight to improve conditions for their fellowman. Of this I am certain.

I have more faith of the US moving towards being a better place for its citizens than I have of other countries. I believe in the American experiment. Give us time. It may be slow, but we will get it right.

  28. @Lawson
So are you saying you are not taking the vaccine his administration made possible ….
    ++++++++++++++
Do you do know that Pfizer didn’t take a penny from the Trump Administration? Did you know that the NIH has been working on solutions for SARS and MERS years before Trump came into office and it then applied that research into a treatment for coronavirus which it partnered with Moderna for development of a vaccine? Trump downplayed the severity of the virus and now wants to claim ownership of the vaccine? Trump is the reason that millions of Americans are not inclined to take the vaccine.

  30. Rush has 3 or 4 guest hosts I enjoy, one of them is even worser than him with an acid sense of humor.

All I believe have their own talk radio shows along the same lines which he pioneered over the past 30 years.

He’s been numero uno in ratings for most of the past 30 years so he has had a good run and did what needed to be done.

His listenership exceeds what all the News Networks combined get!!

There is of course also Mark Levin and Glen Beck!!

But there will only be one Rush and when he finally hangs up his hat tens of millions around the world will miss him.

  31. Millions of racist liars will certainly miss him. I know you exist. More evil ones than good ones on this earth. You don’t need to brag about your numbers.

  32. We may agree on some points, but I suspect that full agreement may not be possible as our visions of the US, its problems and the solutions are different. There is no solution without “we” in it.

Part of my vision includes great hopes and plans for a young man who goes and comes through my door. Who knows what the future will bring, but I look forward with optimism.

  35. News that made me sit up and take note
    By Ezra Alleyne
Two news items this past week stopped me in my tracks. First, the bad news.
In the United States the media reported an incident of serious foolishness. Within the corridors of power in the White House the notion that a declaration of martial law could be used as a possible basis for seizing voting machines, and re-running the presidential elections in some swing states was floated!
The idea that military power might be used in this way was described as “thuggish” by a respected general. King George III is known in history books as the mad British king from whom the Americans had to snatch their Independence. Madness, I thought! Was the ghost of King George III stalking the corridors?
The current Defence Secretary and the Chief of Staff in Washington echoed my thoughts in stating that any involvement of the military in overturning election results is a no no!
A foundation principle of constitutional law making long respected by military careerists is that in genuine democracies the military establishment always respects the political decisions of the people and their elected representatives.
Hence, the hairs on my head started to shake when I wondered why such discussions were even taking place? Had the Americans not told King George III where to get off in 1776 when similar, though not identical madness, reared its ugly head?
Ah, now to the good news. On Monday last, December 21, Dr Marcia Burrowes, a Cave Hill academic, reminded Voice of Barbados listeners that on that date in 1948 Mr Kenmore Nathaniel Rhystone Husbands was elected by the House of Assembly as its first black speaker of the Parliament of Barbados in its then 305-year history!
Now, that “day-in-history” reminder was truly worthy of an 19-gun salute! That anniversary is important, very important. We should have observed it. It was a powerful signal then, that the break from the old order of a plantation dominated “representative” system was being done seriously and clinically. These changes were for keeps; even if we had to wait for the Independence talks in 1966, before we could get a Prime Minister!
So on that important day, when the Barbados Labour Party leader Grantley Adams successfully nominated Kenmore Husbands to be Speaker, Barbadians had removed another finger of the oppressive hand reflecting the iron grip of the colonial mother country from London.
I noted three of the previous Speakers bore the surname of “Alleyne” (as I do), but clearly they belonged to the slaveowning aristocracy to which I may have a lineal if atavistic connection forged through the legal bondage of ownership, forced labour and blood, sweat and tears of my paternal forebears. Those were the days . . . my friend.
    Ironic march
In 1976 when I was appointed Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly of what the late Harold Hoyte accurately describes as “The Liveliest Parliament” in our recent history, I was deeply conscious of the ironic march of history, its moving finger and all.
The Speakership of the elected Parliament was originally easily the most powerful position in Parliament. Speaker was the King’s appointee, and in the absence of a prime minister whose office came later, he called the legislative shots. Much like Nancy Pelosi of the US still does!
Developments in Westminster, as distinct from Washington, have meant that the Speaker has been supplanted as a functional political powerhouse by the office of Prime Minister.
Early kings did not need a Prime Minister; they needed a Speaker. But a Parliament must also have a Speaker, So when push comes to shove, whose side does the Speaker take? Charles I foolishly pushed the envelope and found out.
On January 4, 1642, King Charles I entered the House of Commons with an army of 400 men to arrest five Members of Parliament for high treason. The treason was exercising their freedom of speech. Charles took over the Speaker’s chair and ordered Speaker Lenthall to identify the men so they could be arrested and charged . . . and probably put to death.
    Upheld privileges
Speaker Lenthal courageously defied the king. He upheld the privileges of free speech and freedom from arrest of members. Dropping to his knee, and at the real risk of losing his head, Lenthall bravely declared for posterity.
“May it please your majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as this house is pleased to direct me whose servant I am here; and humbly beg your majesty’s pardon that I cannot give any other answer than this to what your majesty is pleased to demand of me.”
The king had to leave without identifying and arresting the five members. It was the first time in history that any Speaker had defied royal command in favour of the people’s representatives.
No Monarch has entered the people’s House of Commons or our House of Assembly since then . . . almost 500 years ago, unless invited. Democracy has come a long way!
Contextually, December 21, 1948 is a red letter day in our history. It was pregnant with implications for our future freedom! For the first time in our country, an elected member, of the majority population was now occupying this constitutional office!

Nice capture there Mr Blogmaster … Alleyene was and remains always a good essayist!

@Sargeant, thanks for the riposte to @Lawson … when I read him I was confounded at how brazen these trumpets are in grabbing successes in areas which their ‘heroic leader’ defiled and destroyed.

One must applaud them at the awesome effectiveness of their ploy.

The fable of the Emperor’s New Clothes aptly describes this man and his administration but of course for everyone who can see the stark nakedness of substance there is a conspirator who sees that Lawson splendour!

  39. dpD; John

Some years ago, but in actuality, merely just a few weeks, I think, I made a suggestion that the most dangerous period in the madness of Donald Trump would be in the interim period between Trump’s failure to have his claim of fraudulent loss of the elections to Biden-Harris accepted by a significant number of influemtial republicans in Congress and the Biden-Harris inauguration. It would seem that everyone that matters now seems to have accepted that the dangers are passed. Biden will be inaugurated on 20th January. The changeover will be effected without serious conflict. Trump will slink away with just a whimper. Everything will be hunky-dory.

There are many signs that the opposite might be true. Pence, who has a major role in chairing the counting of the electoral votes on 6th January, is non-commital about what he will do but he is well known to be slavishly supportive of Trump in everything he has done and it would not be surprising if he continues his adherence to Trump’s madness to the bitter end even though siding with Trump in denying Biden’s win would be in denial of his oaths of office.

There appears to be an underswell of Republican senators who seem prepared to break with commonsense and tradition by joining together to protest the Biden-Harris win even though there is absolutely no evidence that fraudulent voting played a significant role in the outcome of the elections and all the numbers are consistent with a demonstrable groundswell of voters overwhelmingly voting like never before to keep Trump from continuing his job of wrecking the USA. This can lead to very serious outcomes by the Inauguration date on 20th January.

Trump appears to be massing up a significant armed force in the Persian Gulf. The Israelis also. Iran however seems to be waiting for Biden’s election in hope. The middle east could be a flash point for Trumpian hubris. Trump has a significant following of well-armed, thoughtless middle americans who could erupt into action when and if Trump gives the call.

I hope I am wrong, but the portents do not seem to be as positive as most seem to be expecting. With a currently worsening pandemic and lack of surety of how the possibility of multiple new mutations of Covid-19 occurring will impact us, we have to hope that these factors do not extend the Covid pandemic deep into 2021 or even 2022.

  40. Fourth day of Christmas now.

20th January not yet on the horizon!!

  41. lyallsmall December 27, 2020 7:31 PM #: “Pence, who has a major role in chairing the counting of the electoral votes on 6th January, is non-commital about what he will do but he is well known to be slavishly supportive of Trump in everything he has done and it would not be surprising if he continues his adherence to Trump’s madness to the bitter end even though siding with Trump in denying Biden’s win would be in denial of his oaths of office.”

    @ lyallsmall

Firstly, media reports indicate Trump is angry with Pence for not doing enough in helping his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

“Sources say Trump in recent days has brought the matter up to the vice president and has been “confused” as to why Pence can’t overturn the results of the election on January 6. Pence and White House aides have tried to explain to him that his role is more of a formality and he cannot unilaterally reject the Electoral College votes.”

Secondly, I don’t believe the process is as simple as you’re apparently making it out to be. The below link gives an explanation of Congress’ role during the January 6. 2021 process.

    https://www.npr.org/2020/12/22/949134479/congress-role-in-election-results-heres-what-happens-jan-6

If the information therein is true, then, Trump’s efforts to overturn the election will most certainly fail.

The world waits to find out how events will unfold on January 6, 2021.

  42. New York Post has left the sinking ship.

Look, Artax is correct. Pence’s role is ceremonial. The best he can do for Trump is not show up. The votes will be counted. Biden will be president. The military will not help Trump. A few armed loonys will try to start something. They will not prevail.

America has moved on. Trump and his sycophants look pathetic still holding on to yesterday.

  43. Next sub story the Georgia runoff.

  44. ArtaxDecember 28, 2020 3:31 AM

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Depends on the evidence in the public domain about election fraud.

Back on the 19th was the last time I looked and about 75% of the eligible voters believed there was fraud.

    That was about 180 million!!!

Members of the House and Senate are politicians and they are there because people put them there.

It may very well be that some Democrats in the house or senate have no other choice but to shoot down their own candidate or be seen as working against their country’s national security.

The appearance of the DNI report will be key as the senate and congress get the unexpurgated version.

  45. So we have been through this- what evidence will be used to overturn the will of the people? Is it the feelings of people based on a poll you are on record in this forum of giving no weight? You are truly another hypocrite on the blog. Some people say a little learning is a dangerous thing.
