By the end of the business day, Thursday 27 August 2020, political history of the world would have been written by one Donald Trump. This grifter would have achieved total and unquestioned controlled over the Republican National Convention (RNC) apparati and inserted his brand in such a way that there would be no recognizable differences between man, family and party. The former Republican Party would have become an integral part of the ‘family businesses.

The current coming-out ‘party’ convention has been so organized so that not a whisper of dissent could be given voice. Every ‘man jack’ chosen to speak was to be a reliable Trumpeter. Only Hitler was this exacting. Dissidents were either skillfully sidelined, assigned to the political wilderness in search of uncertain futures or made to join the growing numbers of ‘never-Trumpers’ in groups like the Lincoln Project, in exile as outside supporters of Joe Biden, a man who himself, is less than compos mentis.

As Trump plays for keeps, the clear intention is the deployment of the party organization for the maximization of personal and generational wealth. He and he alone must be the richest man in the world. This is Trump’s personal party! This is all happening, while the Democratic congressional leadership is running around talking about passing this bill, and that bill. But none of this matters to Trump. For Trump, they provide good cover for him to reshape the political structure, under their feet, and in his own image, his brand. The Republican leadership, on the other hand, has been mere lapdogs to this new ‘King’ of America!

We would be unsurprised should Trump emerge from this convention gaining the added bonus of reducing the margins between himself and Biden, a post-convention bounce. This is the normal bounce expected, which Biden failed to obtain from his own theatrical displays of last week.

At the end of the day we would fail to see, if Trump is as successful as we assess he will be, the circumstances under which the current political duopoly formations could resist the type of transformation similar to that as imposed on the Whig Party of the early 19th century. The real question here is whether the Republican Party, as we have known it, is now dead or not? Given demography, some may wonder how it could have existed for so long. History may find that this has been achieved through systemic electoral fraud. This is a history of fraud with which the Democratic Party (DNC) has willingly colluded to ensure that the status quo is maintained.

Trump must be well-pleased with himself for getting away with the incessant moral and legal challenges he has mounted to the system. For example, no president has thus far, been subjected to an impeachment conviction but continued to successfully seek the party’s banner in a coming election. But nobody even mentions this fact. Such is the gravamen of existential challenges to the duopoly as presented by Trumpism.

Maybe, he was right when he voiced his truism that the president’s power is ‘total’. Evidently, his most loyal supporters, the fascist-Christian-evangelicals; court systems well populated by Trump loyalists; that critical mass of Euro-Americans whose every sinew is racist; the silent corporate elites who support both duopoly factions; and a bevy of supine congressmen and senators are now well-prepared to set-sail any remaining notions about ‘democracy’, ‘liberty’, ‘freedom’ down the Potomac River. The Potomac two-step on full display!

Trump has instilled such a perverse party ‘discipline’ that a Martian visiting Earth and landing on this convention would not believe that there is currently a pandemic and that north of 200,000 Americans, based on excess deaths statistics, lay dead. Even as a coterie of buffoons feels confident enough to compel a populace to believe that what is real is indeed fiction and that fiction is reality. Oh, where is George Orwell when needed most!

Internationally, the Dictator-in-Chief has wielded his fascist powers with ruthless efficiency. We could list the countries. They include Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana, Belarus, Palestine, Syria and more. In the case of Guyana he, with hidden hands, was able to deploy CARICOM and the OAS to overturn an election and install the PPP on the basis that one of his associates in Washington was a paid consultant to the Jagdeo gang. What is currently happening at the so-called Republican National Convention has more to do with the future of empire and the fortunes of the Caribbean than anything happening in this region currently.

Of course, we expect Trump will be the next president. This we see as highly possible regardless to who wins the most votes, who gains the larger number of delegates in the Electoral College or what the exit-polling may suggest. A Biden victory will merely delay the inevitable. The American fascist dictator has already laid the predicate in order to question any adverse result. Before that, we are guaranteed an enhanced panoply of uniquely American electoral fraudulent measures, maybe by both sides, measures already in play. Will CARICOM and the OAS interfere like they did in Guyana or Bolivia?

Even if by some miracle Biden were to win, it would be another significant hurdle to get Trump out of the White House, physically. Biden is wrongly persuaded that the military brass will expel Trump under these circumstances. Given recent events outside this very White House and the irrational refusal of all elements of the military to arrest Donald Trump and subject him to a military tribunal on treason charges, we are not inclined to concur with Biden.

Trump has never followed any tradition or lawful requirement. He breaks more laws before breakfast that the criminals in his dungeons, it has been said. Also, he is much too fearful of going to jail, like he must, if a sense of political decency is to be re-established in Washington DC. We are therefore left to loiter on the good graces of ordinary citizens in an unlikely quest of removing a political carbuncle from the body politic.

We have been reminded that the Constitution requires the Speaker of the House, Pelosi, to assume the interim-presidency should there be long-lasting election uncertainty going beyond January 20th, 2021, as Trump is threatening with blatant interference in the USPS. But even if it were to come to this, we would fail to see any circumstances where the incumbent, Donald J. Trump would recognize her (Pelosi’s) existence. He may even have her arrested should she venture anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The fatal flaw is the American political culture requiring the presumptive loser to accept defeat will serve merely to ignite deeper social discord and further the aims of the fascists. This is an environment Trump lives for and is clearly willing to ignite a civil war if necessary.

The classical definition of fascism has been the conjoining of political and economic forces, an unholy alliance. However, what we see emerging here through the use of processes to further disempower the masses and enrich the few is a more virulent formation than understood by the traditional definition. Lewis and Long argued well that when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag. However, this writer is still left in wonderment that such a monster, from the cesspool of American fascism, would arise in our own lifetimes, at the centre of empire, even as we have always been acutely aware of the very nature of American political culture, which has always been fascistic at its core. We are left to wrestle with the internal contradictions.

  1. THAT SORT OF THING USED TO HAPPEN DOWN AT CP IN THE 60’S AND 70’S

  2. Five of us from Hike Barbados went to Machu Picchu back in 2001.

We hiked the Inca Trail, 4 days and three nights.

One of us, our leader, was a doctor.

Each of us took some form of medication to combat altitude sickness except the doctor as he wanted to see what effect being over 10,000 feet would have on his body.

Two of us took a diuretic, Diamox, and two of us Ginko Biloba.

He took with him the means to treat any of us if necessary.

The doctor planned to spend his 60th birthday on Mount Everest after scaling the highest peak on each continent and Machu Picchu was his first test.

His idea was to gradually build up to 28,000 feet one peak at a time.

We all had our haemoglobin levels checked.

The higher this is the better oxygen gets around the body.

We all met the requirement the doctor set.

The doctor explained to each of us the perils of altitude sickness for those whose bodies could not cope with the altitude.

Fluid on the lungs, he explained could occur.

Not treated properly and death would be the result.

It would take time if it did appear so we were checked by him periodically as we hiked.

    We all got through ok.

The next group the following year was not so lucky.

The hiker had to be carried down to a clinic and be put in an oxygen tent I was told.

I didn’t make the next ascent, Kilimanjaro, but one of the hikers was also similarly afflicted.

Luckily a group was passing with the means to treat her otherwise she very well may have died.

The third ascent was to Everest Base Camp at 18,000 feet which I missed.

The hiker who had problems on Macchu Picchu also had bad problems on this hike as expected.

    Could not resist the hike!!

If George Floyd had Pulmonary Oedema/fluid on the lungs and if my understanding and memory is right he was marked for death in the event that he did not receive the correct medical treatment pronto.

The knee to the neck would not have been necessary to kill him and if my understanding is right, could not have caused fluid on the lungs.

If he was complaining of being unable to breathe from before he ended up on the ground, it could only have been a matter of time before he succumbed, knee or no knee.

Here is what the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu looks like.

If anyone decides to try it, make sure you get medical advice and are properly prepared.

You have GOT to be joking. All of that spiel, to justify the murder of George Floyd.

Listen buddy, if a man is dying of liver failure and someone shoot shim the day before likely death, the cause of death is gunshot and it is murder.

Secondly, your conjecture as to his medical condition is that only, even a doctor, without seeing a patient themselves, will not assume a diagnosis.

Why not just say that you do not like black people and you support the far right fascist administration?

Fewer words and would save a ton of time.

Forget arguing with them. John obviously hates black people for some reason, even if he has African blood in his veins and GP is a house negro, just like Ben Carson.

Those house negros are the worst, tons of knowledge, but you jes kno whose side thems on.

  7. Trump dismantling democracy in United States
    By Ralph Jemmott

It took some time to accept the inescapable fact that Donald J. Trump had indeed become the 45th President of the United States. Nothing then or now would suggest that he was suitable for the high office of the American presidency.
In his review of John Dickerson’s book The Hardest Job In The World: The American Presidency, Washington Post correspondent Jeremi Suri contends that the great presidents have all provided a parental, protective and consoling role for a very diverse nation. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Frankin D. Roosevelt all possessed that sense of presidential guardianship. Dr Suri argues that after national tragedies, even supposedly lesser leaders have “projected confidence and hope”. Ronald Reagan in his speech after the Challenger Disaster in 1986. George W. Bush at Ground Zero in September 2001 and Barack Obama singing Amazing Grace at the Emanuel Methodist Episcopal Church following the mass shooting in June 2015.
    Citizens feel abandoned
In contrast, says the Washington Post writer, many US citizens feel abandoned because that parental assurance, consolation and protection is completely lacking from the nation’s current leadership. It was hoped that with time Trump would pivot and become “more presidential”. Far from, he had grown less empathetic and more divisive. His style of leadership more authoritarian, less responsible, more venal and increasingly concerned with his own self-interests. By virtue of a lack of character, knowledge, vision and good judgement, he has proven himself incapable of leadership.
What is fundamentally important, however, is the threat Trump poses to the American Constitution and the cherished fundamentals of American democracy. The US Constitution represents the first and finest expression of the 18th century enlightenment, regarded as one of the most progressive leaps in human thought.
Fareed Zakaria noted that the Founding Fathers deliberately made the presidency weak, particularly in domestic affairs because of the fear of authoritarian rule. Historians have felt that the system of check and balances, limitations on executive power and the existence of an independent judiciary rendered the American people free from the threat of totalitarianism.
Yet Trump, a man of few intellectual accomplishments and consummate ignorance, is flouting nearly every facet of the US Constitution. But a Constitution no matter how inspired or well-crafted is only as viable as the people who are prepared to uphold its sacred tenets. There are some powerfully malevolent forces behind Trump within and without the White House. Firstly, there is the moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party.
Then, there is William P. Barr with his excessive belief in an “imperial presidency” and there is Steven Miller, a long-standing adherent of white supremacist ideology. African Americans and all people of colour stand to lose most from a Trump victory on November 3.
Trump himself does not believe in much beyond self, but his personal fortune is tied to those who would seek to reverse all the civil rights gains made since the 1960s. He is now crudely revising the anti-Obama “birtherism” claims against Kamala Harris, who is of East Indian-Jamaican descent.
    Suppressing vote
Trump is making several efforts to suppress the vote and reduce mail-in or absentee voting, because an expanded vote would appear to favour the Democrats. His most blatant transgression is his tampering with the highly revered American postal system to slow distant voting which he thinks might favour the Biden/Harris ticket.
He does not seem to care that a slow post hurts small business, older Americans and army veterans who depend on the postal service for supply of their medications and welfare payments. Trump may be the first US leader to have no sense of the guardianship imperative of the American presidency.
I am suggesting here that November 3 is Redemption
    Day in America.
As Harris said in her speech accepting to be Biden’s running-mate: “This is a moment of extreme consequence for all of us. It’s all on the line. Character is on the ballot.”
Eugene Robinson, MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist put it differently. He stated: “If there is another Trump administration, I can’t even begin to think where we’ll be four years from now.”
But a Trump defeat may not itself guarantee the traditionally peaceful transfer of power come January 20, 2021. Trump is already blowing dog whistles suggesting that if or when he loses, he may claim the elections were rigged and seek to nullify the result.
What then? What if the forces on the extreme right, armed and unarmed, the Q-Anon conspiracy theorists and the religious right, decide to contest the result by a show of resistance? Trump, of all people, has claimed that Biden, a practising Catholic, is against religion, against the Bible and wants to, “hurt God”. We should not underestimate the forces of evil and ignorance in today’s world. This is not an age of heroic virtue, profound spirituality, high intelligence or common sense.

  9. I respect Ralph Jemmott from school although I did no classes with him.

He gets the respect from me simply by being a teacher at HC (ex officio) but he is totally out to lunch, completely out of his depth!!

  10. David,

Well said by Mr.Jemmott. The problem with Trump is not just Trump himself, but the malevolent forces seeking to control the USA, by hook or by crook. There is no doubt that this is the far right, white supremacist ideology, funded heavily by the few.

Trump is far from democratic, as R.J. notes, but his dog whistle serves to pull the racists out in force, just as Hitler did with the Nazi camp. Interesting that Trump himself is essentially of German heritage and his father, a senior figure in the Klu Klux Klan.

We may wonder if this was a long game by the defeated Nazis, but that is something that would need more investigation.

Nevertheless, a win again by the Republicans will almost certainly herald in another period of devastating international conflict.

Suffice it to say, that a Trump win will turn most of the world pro China. Because his group have no use for the rest of us, so China then becomes the ally.

That in itself will have implications for trade and will leave a sharp delineation of trade, with a few western countries being isolated. Could that result in international conflict? I think that it will.

Because when the Chinese cargo ships arrive in Mexico, South America, etc and vice versa, there will be angst in certian quarters.

But you reap what you sow.

Now we can understand how Hitler came to power, yet Germans deny that they supported him, after the fact.

Yes, much depends on the events of November. But let us be clear of one thing. If the Republicans win, it is the majority who vote in the incumbent, who will be responsible for the events that may follow, not just Trump and his cronies. All of their hands will be stained.

Interesting that these past four years could see such a change in world affairs, but this could have such an impact, with the US no longer holding sway in the Middle East etc. They have already lost much ground in that area.

  11. @Crusoe

Jemmott all agree is an intelligent man. Enough said.

  12. Biden isn’t even the candidate, just a chimera.

Ralph Jemmott should have spent his time analysing the forces behind that chimera.

“The Chimera (/kɪˈmɪərə/ or /kaɪˈmɪərə/, also Chimaera (Chimæra); Greek: Χίμαιρα, Chímaira “she-goat”), according to Greek mythology,[1] was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. It is usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake’s head.[2] It was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra.

The term “chimera” has come to describe any mythical or fictional creature with parts taken from various animals, to describe anything composed of very disparate parts, or perceived as wildly imaginative, implausible, or dazzling.”

Yes, he did teach me and I do respect him.

  14. JohnAugust 30, 2020 8:00 AM

Surely then you are also a chimera? Allegedly of mixed blood, but of a mind that one may perceive as hating that same blood with a passion, thus your mind and body at odds, all in one package?

The only difference between us is you attended his classes!!

    I don’t have that.

I know he writes in the press but I have never read anything he has written apart from this, have you?

Look at how he begins this piece.

“Nothing then or now would suggest that he was suitable for the high office of the American presidency.”

Trump won the election fair and square.

The statement ignores the 64 million Americans who clearly disagree with Ralph Jemmott and believe Trump was and is eminently qualified and suitable for the high office of the American Presidency.

The statement ignores what was to all intents and purposes was an electoral college landslide.

Who is Ralph Jemmott to disregard these realities?

    Did he cast a vote?

When I read something that completely contradicts reality I dismiss it.

    Doesn’t mean I don’t respect Ralph Jemmott ex officio … I do!!

David, what John is saying is that the police may kill drug users at will. Cognitive dissonance happens when he then spouts about due process.

Either he has no clue what that is, or he is blinded by something.

I suspect that he well knows, but he is fitting his argument around the facts.
