The FBI is investigating the death of George Floyd, black man who was pinned on the neck by a police officer and later died in custody. Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison joins The Beat with Ari Melber’s breaking coverage on the latest from the FBI and the protests. While the officers involved have yet to be charged, Ellison argues a “quick arrest” might “make people feel better about justice” it is “important” for investigators to “take the time to make sure that these charges, if they are brought forward, stick.

    YES, I saw your post re Owens but when I say I “never heard” of her I am speaking of her being a representative voice of ANY significance in the Black community.

    Social media as the Blogmaster notes gives anyone a forum but hearing one there does NOT mean that one ‘has heard’ of them as someone of merit and worth!

    Back in the day there was the Chilites, Four Tops, Blue Notes, etc , ad infinitum … many a Black group of singers of which we were aware… not all made a real impact to be truly ‘heard’, senor.

    As far as I am concerned Ms Owens is one of those working hard but still playing the club circuit of politics I have NOT heard of her as a true talent toppping the charts… But then maybe I don’t listen to lots the mess of silly songs from “black advocates for Trump [who] are few and far between”.

    You do know that Trump is not truly anti-abortion but is only taking the ‘lifers’ / evangelical right wing christians single issue stance to campaign to win election.

    Roe Vs Wade gave Woman the right of a choice. It is not a man’s choice nor a parasitical politicians choice.
    The choice of an abortion can not be taken away and even the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have made it law now.

    White people still do not get the meaning of #BLACKLIVESMATTER which was formed by a group of mothers to stop black children being killed by Police. Police have no authority to kill should be charged with murder when they do. Law to take away their property and personal assets should be made into the anti-lynching law of 1918 which was passed after Emmet Till was murdered.

    The KKK formed in 1865 became the de facto local Government when Blacks were ‘freed’ from slavery 13th Amendment 1865.
    Jim Crow law was then implemented to keep racial segregation until Civil Rights bill enacted 1964.

    Republicans then implemented Southern Strategy to win racists whites votes down south after Civil Rights Bill which was developed by Richard Nixon and Barry Goldwater, Lee Atwater described the Southern Strategy in a 1981 interview

    “You start out in 1954 by saying, “N-gger, n-gger, n-gger.” By 1968 you can’t say “n-gger”—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff.     I see you’ve added another somewhat confusing but contextually irrational argument to the specious ones you advanced earlier. It is this one:

    “Prior to COVID-19, economy in the US needed more people. …… That’s how wealth can be distributed, by making the country’s economy work for all. Trump has to do it all over again but the numbers for May suggest he just might accomplish it. Record Black unemployment, Hispanic unemployment etc. may just happen again. Trump is moving forward. His stance on abortion sends the clear message that ALL LIVES MATTER. The 44 miliion black white, Hispanic etc Americans who are missing from the workforce will be missed. So the need to instill “BLACK LIVES MATTER” in BLACK MOTHERS (AND FATHERS!!) is imperative. If the message that “ALL LIVES MATTER” gets across, America should be even better.”

    Can’t you see that this argument, in that it clearly indicates that Black lives are important only in swelling the labour force through eliminating abortions and using the increased numbers in lowly paid jobs, cannot be based on good faith but only on producing a new type of slave like labour?

    Let me rephrase your slogan: “All Lives Matter in our new economy but some lives will continue to be more important than others”

    Dyer Anti-Lynching Bill was first introduced in 1918 / Emmet Till was killed in 1955
    It was not until 2018 that the Senate passed the anti-lynching legislation Justice for Victims of Lynching Act, on which the House of Representatives took no action. On February 26, 2020, the House passed a revised version, the Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act, by a vote of 410–4. Paul Rand is blocking it in Senate.

    Do you realise that the slogan “All LIves Matter” is a very good one for an environmentalist, for a Life Scientist, for a religious person and for many other groups, in that it captures the theme of One Earth or GAIA i.e. everything is living and significantly interfering with one or more components of that multifarious expression of Life, in every nook and cranny of our Solar system or, even Cosmos, can eventually damage all Life everywhere?

    All Lives matter is a truism, not a useful purpose-designed slogan for anyone who can think.

    It is not a good slogan in the context in which you propose its use

    If you think about it, when Trump stands four square against abortion, the taking of life, as the President he has to give an alternative to those unemployed mothers and fathers who find themselves with a child on the way.

    He needs to remove from their consideration the option of destroying the life of their unborn child.

    I know only one unwed mother who had an abortion and it wasn’t for economic reasons, it was due to shame.

    She was young and came from a well to do family.

    It must have been a horrible experience for her because a couple of years later she delivered a healthy baby, shame be damned.

    I can’t claim to be an expert but I think for poor unemployed people, abortion becomes an imperative for strictly economic reasons.

    Think about what the decision to kill an unborn child says to any living children in the household.

    Trump, as president, can’t just talk anti abortion talk, he has to back it up with improved economic opportunities for all.

    It isn’t only black mothers and fathers who abort their unborn children, all colours do and my belief is that it is strictly an economic decision.

    They all, black, white, hispanic …. American … need the confidence to bring a new life into the world knowing the misery of poverty will not hamstring their efforts to raise the new life.

    To date, Trump has both talked the talk and walked the walk.

    ALL LIVES MATTER, whether the child is black, white, hispanic … American … is irrelevant.

    Trump’s lead needs to be followed in all countries.

    For whatever reason the police in America kill more white people than black or hispanic or any other ethnicity.

    Each of the victims matters.

    In some of the instances the killing is justifiable, but that does not change the fact that each life taken by the police mattered.

    What we see with the rioting and looting associated with the protesting around the world is a complete disregard for life.

    When a rioter tosses a Molotov cocktail at the police that rioter is expressing his/her utter disregard for life.

    He/she doesn’t care if the police officer is a father or mother of a child.

    To then try to fool people and himself/herself that BLACK LIVES MATTER is utterly dishonest and degrades the death of George Floyd.

    The irony is the media promotes it.

    Who gains by the violence?

    The economic renewal is stymied in those cities worst affected.

    Mostly it is dysfunctional Democrat controlled areas in America that are affected.

    It is as if these areas willingly agree to be the stage on which the rioters and looters perform and the media then glorifies it.

    I get the nuance of BLACK LIVES MATTER better than you can imagine.

    Just need two eyes to watch the results.

    “I always hoped this day would come but never fully believed it would,” said Senator Jennifer McClellan. She said when the statue is finally gone it will feel “like an incredible burden has been lifted off my shoulders and finally I can breathe and heal”.

    These controversial statues have been removed following protests over George Floyd’s death :

    Montgomery, Alabama

    About 90 miles south of Birmingham, demonstrators tore down a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that stood in front of Lee High School in Montgomery on Monday, according to CNN affiliate WSFA.

    Nashville, Tennessee

    A controversial statue of Edward Carnack, a former US senator and newspaper owner known for attacking civil rights advocates like Ida B. Wells, was carried away from the city’s capital grounds on Monday, according to CNN affiliate WKRN.

    The removal came after demonstrators tore the monument down on Sunday.

    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

    After 22 years on the steps of Philadelphia’s Municipal Services Building, a statue of the city’s former mayor and police commissioner Frank Rizzo was removed from its post across City Hall in Center City early Wednesday morning, according to CNN affiliate WPVI.

    On Saturday, protesters appeared to tie ropes to the statue and started a fire at the statue’s base.

    Rizzo served as Philadelphia’s mayor from 1972 to 1980. During his term, Rizzo was praised by supporters as tough on crime but accused by critics of discriminating against minorities, according to WPV

    The statue is a deplorable monument to racism, bigotry, and police brutality for members of the Black community, the LGBTQ community, and many others,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said in an online statement. “The treatment of these communities under Mr. Rizzo’s leadership was among the worst periods in Philadelphia’s history.”

    The statue was scheduled to be removed next year, according to WPVI. But on Tuesday, the mayor signed an order for the city managing director to immediately remove the statue, according to an online statement.

    I have consulted with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and other groups. I have seen no evidence among the ADL Reports that ANTIFA is a “terrorist” organization, or has ever been charged in any courts in the USA with killing anyone.
