During the last decade the BU blogmaster has not had the opportunity to highlight our prime ministers performing on the world stage/media. The election of Prime Minister Mia Mottley has corrected the problem.

Today (2020-04-29) many Barbadians took pause at 2PM EST to watch Mottley with her usual oratory and unrestrained flair participate an interview with the world renown journalist  Christian Amanpour.

Court orders curfew offender to hold up sign for hour

A man who breached the curfew which is in place to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was yesterday sentenced to one hour of standing and displaying a curfew notice.

The police yesterday said that Romal Gardner was charged for breach of restriction to home. He appeared at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court.

“Breach of restriction to home, in contravention of No.1 Restriction of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures #53/2020, contrary to Section 21 (2) of the Public Health Ordinance, Chapter 145”, was the charge, the police said.

@Artax, down the hole you ventured and more and more fantasy from John in Alice’s wonderland comes forth 🙂 …. Dishonestly disguised with his deliberate errors of omission!

He said that “South Dakota didn’t go for a lockdown.” suggesting that their policy was the right and others wrong, just as the other blogger suggests that Sweden’s non-lockdown policy was right.

Not going debate the efficacy of a lock-down upfront to restrict the death and mayhem or a continuous flow of business operations and thus a continuous flow death and mayhem as the supposed ‘herd immunity’ evolves. We have done that repeatedly.

But let’s put @John’s dishonesty on blast. South Dakota is an expansive state in the US and has a low pop density. In fact the TOTAL pop there is just around 9 mil (8.7 to be more precise)…. so grasp that in perspective… FIVE MILLION plus people travel via the NYC subway system DAILY … and almost the same as the ENTIRE population of the whole state of SD live in fraction of the land mass in the NYC boroughs… to be more precise some 8.5 mil people. To compare to another major metropolis, roughly 9 million live in London and daily about 2 million ride on their underground tube!

Get that…nothing jammed and rammed like that to live in SD .. it’s a wonderful ‘breeze’ for social distancing.

Yet these zealots come here and sprinkle this ideological bleach as a cure for a serious matter that should have absolutely no political affiliations but be based on facts and reality.

    Pure DISHONESTY!

  4. “You can’t even google!!!…Try CNN viewership!!!”

    @ John

You “gave (me) the data of viewership and listenership” and “OFFERED to EXPLAIN the numbers to me.”

After ACCEPTING your OFFER…… you’re now suggesting I “can’t even Google” and to “try CNN viewership?”

WHY should I????? You don’t have a premium account and can’t access the stats?

My friend, it’s not my fault. “Be an ADULT and take responsibility for yourself.” ADMIT you made a ‘boo-boo’ with the ‘Statista’ link.’

I’m sorry I EXPOSED it. Try not burst a blood vessel.

I’m done with you and that.

  5. When we look back at this episode we will realise the fear and pandemonium was uncalled for.

It just took an adult approach.

de Blasio, Cuomo and Pelosi tried to undercut Trump and wound up causing chaos in their states.

    Ffing little children!!

Demographics ensured the infected youth from the parades took it back to their parents and grand parents.

Mass transit further ensured its spread.

My bet is it will turn out New York/New Jersey had an at risk population.

Even if Fauci is right and it returns it will probably be not nearly as severe as by then those in charge in New York will probably have changed and people will exercise better judgment in listening to useless politicians.

All it ever needed was to look at the numbers and ask questions.

No need for all the temporary hospitals or the hospital ship.

  6. If you can answer the question, “Does Barbados have a mass transit system”, and “Does South Dakota have a mass transit system” you probably could be a future Prime Minister in the making!!

BTW, does Sweden have a mass transit system?

  7. I know, I know, that’s two questions.

  11. Smokers ‘four times less likely’ to contract Covid-19, prompting nicotine patch trials on patients Researchers in France will test nicotine patches on health workers and patients but reiterated smoking could also cause more severe illness

    ByHenry Samuel23 April 2020 • 5:04pm

Frontline health workers and patients in France may be given nicotine patches after studies found that four times fewer smokers contracted Covid-19 than non-smokers.

It may sound counterintuitive that people who puff on Gauloises are less likely to catch a virus that can cause deadly attacks on the lungs. However, that was the statistical outcome of an in-depth study conducted by the Pasteur Institute, a leading French research centre into the disease.

The institute tested almost 700 teachers and pupils of a school in Crépy-en-Valois in one of the hardest-hit areas in France, as well as their families. The “highly accurate” tests found that only 7.2 per cent of smokers from among the adults tested were infected while four times as many non-smokers, some 28 per cent, were infected.

  16. Mia puts on a face of sincerity and humanity to the world
But at home we hear the cries of the suffering
Today we read of people in quarantine meted with inhumanity at one of barbados hotels and the voices of those in charge to deal with that problem cannot be heard
It is stated that children and entire families are housed liked cattle at the hotel where meals are cold and serve to them
Recently i brought up the topic of being told by a source of family members being placed in quarantine and BU removed all the comments referencing the issue
The name of the Hotel was also given to me which i did not mention
BU as i said Truth unlike milk does not spoil
My comments were not made to slur govt but to bring necessary attention to cover ups and on going lies by govt official

“FBI complaint names 12 Caribbean persons in alleged multi-million dollar fraud

    November 15, 2013

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — A report by the Barbados Free Press on November 4, 2013, published the full text of what purports to be a complaint filed with the FBI by Sherene Mongroo in relation to the alleged theft of US$4 million from her late father’s estate, and names 12 Caribbean individuals and other entities, including financial institutions and a Barbados law firm, as the alleged perpetrators.

One of the individuals named in the complaint as published, Hari Narayen ‘Ralph’ Ramkarran, attorney at law and former speaker of the house in Guyana, claimed that the allegations are false and vindictive and are calculated to tarnish the character of anyone associated with the late Yusuf Mongroo or his estate.

“I represent Sasedai Persaud in a court case brought by Sherene Mongroo who is challenging the Last Will and Testament of Yusuf Mongroo. Sasedai Persaud is a beneficiary of the said Will. My only association with this matter is to provide legal services to Ms Persaud.

“Everybody who has been associated with this Will, or the estate of Yusuf Mongroo, is being tarnished in the same way by Ms Mongroo,” Ramkarran said in an emailed statement.
Ramkarran’s claim that his only involvement is to provide legal services to his client is, however, belied by evidence that he entered into a so-called joint venture agreement between Ramkarran himself, his client Sasedai Persaud and another alleged perpetrator Ali Mudeen.
Efforts to contact Barbados attorney at law Malcolm Deane initially proved fruitless as his firm’s website is under construction and the Barbados Bar Association directory entry for Deane lists his partner’s email address and not his.

However, Deane’s partner, Satcha Kissoon, did respond to our inquiry, saying he had forwarded our email to Deane for comment. We subsequently invited Deane to respond directly to us but he has not yet done so.
According to Kissoon, Deane is the only one in his firm that may be in a position of firsthand knowledge to comment on any of these matters.

“As I had indicated, and wish to reiterate and make clear, I had never known about this matter at all until your article and emails. I was never in any meeting with any of the persons named in the matter and had no knowledge of this matter, the parties or any transaction with the firm, until your article and emails. Prior to your article and emails, I did not even know the name Yusuf Mongroo,” he explained.
Kissoon went on to say that he was not even in the office around the time meetings were said to have occurred, since he was in and out on sick leave in September and October 2010 prior to major surgery.
An assertion that Kissoon participated briefly in a meeting with Deane and one of the other alleged perpetrators is said to be case of mistaken identity and, according to Kissoon, it was his partner Bryan Weekes who was briefly introduced to the individuals by Deane but he (Weekes) did not remain in the meeting.
“The reference to me at all was clearly a mistake,” Kissoon said.

None of the other individuals and entities named in the reported complaint responded to requests for comment.
In a related development, a complaint is also believed to have been filed with the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), which has wide investigative and enforcement powers over banks receiving bailout money from the US federal government, one of which is JP Morgan Chase, through which the allegedly stolen funds were transferred.
However, in response to our inquiry, Troy D. Gravitt, director of communications at SIGTARP, declined to comment.
“As a policy, we decline commenting about any actual, potential, or otherwise investigations-related activity. To be clear, this is meant neither to confirm nor deny any investigations-related activity; we simply decline to comment,” he said in an emailed response.”

It might do you well to look at this link which sheds some light on the true state of affairs at the National Assistance Board

    http://nationnews.brb.newsmemory.com/?publink=19b584e85

After you read that you should come back here and apologise to Mariposa for treating her often misguided donkey badly!

Her point is about the treatment of NAB EMPLOYEES

    All of them!!!

  23. ou told by a source what. Barbadians living here would have seen the buses that transported the NAB staff when it was decided by government to test all of them

    xxxxccxxxxxxxxcxcx

Why dont u get out of source defensive posture
Would those seeing the buses know who were in the buses
Why dont u understand that people would speak when they suspect they are being treated unfairly as was the case with this family and the member who brought the problem to my attention
Also take Note that i had enough information given by the source that told of the bus number
Number of people on the bus
The hotel name at which they would be housed
Pray tell could a street observer give such details

  24. @ Mariposa

Keep fighting. Publish all the details, as long as it does not compromise your contact. Your loyalty is to Barbados, not any political party or blog.

  25. Apologize what, the matter of NAB workers is being played out in the media, both the Nation and BT posted articles yesterday and PM press secretary Roy Morris also addressed the issue. We are operating in a pandemic, there will be issues that crop up.

  26. No David u do not have to apologize for removing five of my comments which was relevant to COVID and unfair practices
No u do not have to apologize for removing the comments

  27. And you do not have to apologize for posting lies on a frequent basis to the blog.

  28. David says all that is being said about the NAB workers is in the media
Can u be sure of that
Why hasnt the media mention the name of the Hotel where the workers say they are mistreated

  29. David u also called me a liar when i posted the story
Never mind when govt wants total control of a nation their long arm of political attack grabs hold of the messengers neck
Any how point me where i have told lies .

  30. @ Mariposa

The role of the press is to ask difficult questions. You are a one-person interrogator on BU. Keep it up. Do not let a one-party stat e and a weak press put you off. They will bring out their big guns to get you. Stand firm.

  31. MARIPOSA

Can you please state where or by whom was it stated that the people “are housed like cattle” in a hotel ?

  32. What difference does it make at this point John 2
Where was your voice when David removed every one of my comments relating to the story
Where were u to say to David that he was wrong
However u now find it fit to bring below the belly attacks as a way of calling me a liar
    Get lost fool
For the day is fast approaching when u lot would find it hard to defend yuhself

  33. Hal the source told me all that they knew
    as i said bus number
    Who was driving
The size of people on the bus and the direction it was heading
The reasons that cause for the people to be quarantined
The place where they are presently quarantined

  34. Mariposa

Ignore the background noise. It is an irritant. Another trick is to copy your posts to BU just in case they are deleted or people try to call you a liar, as they will.
What I find sad are the people who know you are right, or at least have a right to be heard, and they keep quiet. Reminds me of Hitler’s attacks on the Jews. Remember Pastor Martin Niemoller:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I can add: Then they came for Mariposa, I kept quiet, I was not @Mariposa.

    Stay strong.

  35. David did not want to hear the truth hence the comments were removed and one of govt attack dogs harassed me calling me a liar and insinuated i was making up the story

  36. On to another story relative to the opening of the beaches
A question which arises to my mind
Since the virus is part and parcel of decision making i wonder if the life guards had any input in guiding govt on the necessity for safety for them in the event unforseen circumstance occurs whereby the need for rescuing a seabather occurs

  37. Mari

I read where there complained about the cold meals. The problem got to the unions and the authorities so I know it will be addressed.

however “housed like cattle ” suggest there are other problems, most likely over crowding. I do not see that anywhere in the press

I never call you a liar your defensive attack on me tell a lot.

    carry on!

  38. de pedantic Dribbler Avatar
    de pedantic Dribbler

@David that story re “smokers” is indeed absolutely counter-intuitive… that’s a ‘wow’ value for empirical hard evidence… I’ll read the article later but I am simply discombobulated by the ‘headline’…. it makes no ‘sense on its face’ based on all the reporting previously done which suggested that those with compromised respiratory systems from years of smoking were more susceptible to major covid19 complications.

This new study now seems to suggest that the mere act of smoking gives your body some sort of ‘resistance’…. how can the two constructs be compatible! Pasteur is a leading institute historical so I must assume this study was peer reviewed. Still seems incomprehensible tho. Ah well!

@NO…re John’s disturbing sycophancy… this blogging experience has surely opened my eyes to the real deal aspects of leadership or what we have become socialized to accept as ‘our leaders’ anyhow…. We have here some of the best and brightest Bajans displaying the same subjective (often biased) ideological or nativism perspectives that are lambasted in our leaders and to call them on it results in aggressive petty personal attacks. SMH

I certainly do not begrudge persons their opinions but when we have a fella who offers the high level of research in some areas – as this guy does -which I use to fully accept on its merits, but then can so blatantly pander to every opinion of a media personality regardless of its outlandish or debunked status then I step back and start to wonder about the unbiased nature of his research….

That’s the trouble spot for me… and based on our current status it’s clear that many more of our other best and brightest are like that: very intelligent and astute in their field of expertise but maintain deeply ‘irrational’ perspectives which clearly flow into their decision making on the big issues…

It is NOT impossible to expect that one can have a strong conservative or liberal opinion on an issue but can completely divorce that personal bias and act based on the evidence .. too few people and thus leaders have that capacity now it seems.

  39. @Dee Word

Agree, there is an abundance of background noise here there and everywhere…LOL.

  40. “Also take Note that i had enough information given by the source that told of the bus number
Number of people on the bus. The hotel name at which they would be housed.”

    @ David BU

Initially, the “reliable source” revealed a Transport Board bus collected a bus load of family members and took them to the quarantine base in St. Lucy.

    The story has now CHANGED.

Just as I suspected. Judging from the comments, I knew the good lady ‘put together bits and pieces’ of something she heard, formed an obvious biased conclusion, and said she was told by a source as the basis to give her story credibility. However, over the past few days, she probably heard additional ‘bits and pieces,’ which allowed to CHANGE her initial story.

Isn’t this a fabrication??? I believe if someone supports the any ruling political administration or not, they should be FAIR in their comments. But, some contributors seem to believe they have the right to post anything and the forum should accept it without question.

When you question it, they immediately imply you’re a “blp foot soldier,” or, as I’ve seen today, “govt attack dogs.” But, would want to convince others they’re not politically biased.

What I’ll say is Mariposa should know, because anyone who is familiar with BU knows she has over 20 years experience as a “DLP foot soldier” and during the 10 year tenure of the last administration, as a “govt attack dog.”

“The truth always appear on FB” is NONSENSE. Anyone can post anything on Facebook and say it’s true, because that site is not regulated or filtered. I seen posts and photos on Facebook, including one with Bin Laden shaking hands with Trump and people commenting as though it was true.

I’m sure you remember reading a post from a regular contributor, in which they claimed as TRUE and FACT, Fulcrum Chambers Limited took over an investment company owned by Butterfield Bank. Further investigations revealed the claim was UNTRUE.

  41. I see WHO is being left out in the cold by China in its investigations!!

This is the result of excellent planning and leadership in conjunction with the advice of health officials and the excellent work of the frontline workers whom ALL BAJANS INCLUDING YOU LOT SHOULD BE PROUD OF THAT IS IF YOU ARE BAJANS.Therefore your latest story we will take with a grain of salt until we hear from official sources.

@John, your 10:52 PM above was an illogical string of words … how a scientifically grounded human could spew such with a straight face… like the bleach nonsense from your idol is beyond me.

Clearly your are playing one of your insane fly trap games as no person with your background could actually believe your folly… so I’ll leave it where your fellow scientist succinctly noted: “The second wave at times is more virulent than the first wave .”

I would say he is being conservative with “at times”… because the other experts and texts on the subject of viral pandemics suggests that the second wave of these things is in fact almost “always” more virulent…

Why… because in practical terms the ‘cabin fever’ syndrome we desperately want to release and the desire to free the economic chains of a non-performing economy invariably pushes us back to a more daily life faster than is ideal and despite our awareness (and precautions), that next wave still often impacts a larger % of the population and as this particular virus has mutated to multiple different strains it means that previously infected people can still be contaminated again.

As a scientist based thinker you know this also but yet spew utter nonsense… as I have I said before… folks at your level of awareness should be charged for criminal mischief for that level of utter disinformation like “Even if Fauci is right and it returns it will probably be not nearly as severe…”

The problem is that you seem to have lost any sense of decency to actually feel embarrassed by your rantings which do not square with the science..

I certainly do hope tho that “people will exercise better judgment in listening to useless politicians” and their intellectually dishonest minions in media. Who can be more useless as a politician than the jackass who muses about ‘injecting bleach’ to kill the virus.

Smokers ‘four times less likely’ to contract Covid-19, prompting nicotine patch trials on patients Researchers in France will test nicotine patches on health workers and patients but reiterated smoking could also cause more severe illness

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Heard this one on Rush about a week ago … old stuff!!

He got a good laugh because he was a smoker, cigarettes first and then cigars!!

Google smoking corona virus and see what various scientific papers say.

    Quite the opposite.

I guess WHO can be wrong on this too!!

Rush himself said when he smoked cigarettes he never caught colds but pointed out that was not science!!!

Taking Nicotine through the skin vs Nicotine, and all sorts of other carcinogens through the lungs is obviously different!!

If less than 1% die from complications then saying that in the 99% who had no problems that there were few smokers is kind of meaningless!!

It is the <1% that creates the fear.

Obvious question to ask is how many former and current smokers who caught the virus had issues, like death?

For those who cannot discern the slight of hand the question is how many of the 1% who died smoked?

Amazed people could miss such an obvious distinction!!

BTW, dead people can’t tell researchers they smoked and researchers aren’t going digging around in their lungs to see if they had smokers lungs.

Here is a study on flu.

    https://www.journalofinfection.com/article/S0163-4453(19)30254-3/fulltext

    •Nine studies provided data for meta-analysis (n = 40,685 participants).
•Current smokers were 5 times more likely to have laboratory-confirmed influenza than non-smokers.
•Current smokers were 34% more likely to develop an influenza-like illness than non-smokers.

    @ dpD

Your above comment is “SPOT ON.” You should definitely “ignore the background noises.”

BU is a fascinating forum. It’s a place where certain contributors seem to have ‘a one tracked mind.’ They use the same strategy, irrespective of how the games plays or changes.

There will be those, as seen here on BU, that no matter what any political administration does, they will ‘nit pick’ and find something to criticize.

If you support a BLP policy, question a criticism or present an alternative perspective, you’re labelled a “blp foot soldier” or “government attack dog,” and vice versa.

And, I find nowadays some of us have even descended to describing contributors as animals. They’re either ‘barking wild dogs, attack dogs, wild beast or savages.’

    BU’s ‘environment’ has changed significantly.

All I can say is, ‘to each, his own.’
