closing the supermarkets and implementing 24 hrs curfew would lead me to think the horse has already left the stables

The public only know that there was a procedure. The same news item the Trinidad Chief medical officer said the other countries where modelling took place, used a bench -mark figure of 100 cases as the starting point for the modelling. He said that using less than one hundred was not very reliable. When asked about ventilators he admitted that there were about fifty in port or Spain and forty-nine down south. That is all I can say. On the call-in program today, callers were impressed by Dr. Fauci and how modest he was and how well explained things. Here we have a Czar who has not got a technical clue

You Should read this. I have posted on another of BU blogs. This one here, in addition to what was posted already contains additional information.. It all points to deception on a massive scale by China .
The true scale of China’s medical stockpile is revealed: More than TWO BILLION masks were imported into Wuhan in just one month as the coronavirus crisis escalated
China imported over two billion masks, 25million pieces of protective clothing
The government released a report on its foreign trade for January and February
Medical supplies were obtained from overseas as it battled virus outbreak

Doctors are buying painting masks from Bunnings fearing looming shortage
Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

China imported more than two billion masks and 25 million pieces of protective clothing from overseas before the coronavirus outbreak reached pandemic levels, it has been revealed.
On Thursday a Chinese government report emerged detailing its foreign trade for the first two months of the year, when the country was at the peak of its virus crisis.
As COVID-19 infections began to spread across the globe in January and February, China saw a ‘rapid growth in imports of commodities and key consumer goods’.
More than 2.46billion pieces of medical materials, including masks and protective equipment, were inspected by National Customs in China between January 24 and February 29, according to the report.
The report states the agency had expedited the entry of supplies by introducing ‘zero-delay customs clearance of epidemic prevention and control materials.’
It comes days after Chinese organisations operating in Australia were reported to have sent bulk medical supplies to China at the height of the crisis.
Chinese-owned property developer Risland Australia was reported to have flown 80 tonnes of medical supplies on a corporate jet to Wuhan in late February.
Video footage emerged showing boxes of surgical masks stacked up at Perth airport before being sent to Wuhan on February 8 – when there were 15 cases of coronavirus in Australia.
Another Chinese property company, Greenland Group, retasked its employees to purchase face masks, hand sanitisers, antibacterial wipes, thermometers, Panadol and other medical items in bulk for shipment to China.
Greenland bought up three million surgical masks, 500,000 pairs of gloves and bulk supplies of sanitiser and antibacterial wipes in Australia and other countries where the company operates.
The goods were hoarded at Greenland’s Sydney headquarters and were sent to China in January and February.Australian hospitals are now struggling to cope with a shortage masks and other protective gear as the number of coronavirus cases in the country continue to soar.
As of Thursday, there are more than 5,108 confirmed cases in Australia, with 23 deaths.
How bulk supplies of Australia’s face masks, hand sanitisers and other vital medical items were shipped to China as the coronavirus pandemic took hold
Bulk supplies of vital medical items were shipped from Sydney to China at the request of a Beijing-backed property giant as the coronavirus pandemic took hold in Australia.
Greenland Group, which manages property developments across the globe with the support of the Chinese government, told employees at its Sydney office to stop their normal work in January.
Instead, they were tasked with sourcing face masks, hand sanitisers, thermometers and other medical items, storing them at their office and shipping them to China.
A whistleblower told The Sydney Morning Herald the exercise was a worldwide effort and continued until the end of February.
‘Basically all employees, the majority of whom are Chinese, were asked to source whatever medical supplies they could,’ the insider said.
‘There were numerous requests from the HR manager and even our direct reporting line [which] prioritised the assisting of the company in gathering these supplies over other work activities.’
Greenland Group told Chinese language media in Australia the company collected three million protective masks, 700,000 hazmat suits and 500,000 pairs of medical gloves during the global effort.
It is unclear how many of those were sourced in Australia.
Greenland Group confirmed the shipments from Sydney to China in a statement to Daily Mail Australia, saying it ‘felt compelled’ to assist ‘in efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus, which had caused a shortage of critical medical supplies in China’.
The supplies were ‘dispatched to China, which at that time was the epicentre of the outbreak’, the statement read.
‘As such, Greenland Group initiated a drive for medical supplies, and provided accommodation services for front-line medical staff in China via the company’s hotel group.’Greenland Australia supported Greenland Group’s initiative by arranging for medical supplies to be dispatched to China. Again, it should be noted that this proactive response occurred in late January and early February, at a time when the worldwide spread of the virus, and all response efforts, were focused on China.’
Photos show pallet-loads of medical items stored in company-stamped boxes at Greenland’s Sydney offices and at various airports.
Sherwood Lou, Greenland Australia’s managing director, shared photos of the supplies on February 13.
He wrote at the time: ‘The second batch of non-contact forehead thermometers will soon take off to China! Coronavirus situation is serious, Chinese people, local and overseas, are trying their best, fighting together to combat the virus.’
Now with many months of giving warnings
Most would accusing me of gloating
As it was in the days of Noah and lot
Prophets of doom these men were called
Until the disaster struck and there was no place to go
Govt relied heavily on Trump play book
Identical in principle of waiting too late and heavy handed in mistakes
If only govt had relied on what they had seen happening to other countries and formed measures geared on early prevention
Barbadians would not be in a placed of fear and relying on rushed measures

Mariposa you are correct in your assessment. The elite International business management schools are at a lost. Even before this virus arrived, we in the UK have witnessed a near collapse of our retail sector. The food sector however remains resilient.
Let’s make agriculture sexy. It is all we have left.

Public health experts: Americans should be wearing masks in public amid coronavirus
When the coronavirus outbreak first hit in the U.S., public health officials urged most people to forego wearing a face mask. Not anymore: Experts are calling for masks in public as confirmed cases in the U.S. increase, and President Trump is expected to encourage Americans to wear face covering when outside.
“I do think we need to have facial coverings for folks, so everyone has to wear one and we are protecting others from us,” Dr. Dena Grayson, an infectious disease specialist, told Yahoo Finance (video above).
Grayson stressed that normal people don’t need to wear N95 masks, the special respirator masks that “are really recommended for health care workers and first responders who are in close contact repeatedly with people who are COVID-19, the illness caused by this coronavirus.”
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/coroanvirus-americans-should-be-wearing-masks-203331017.html
“A number of our essential service providers will need access to these facilities, as well as persons who will want to legitimately visit pharmacies and other exempt services. I want to remind the village shop owners that during this period no more than three people are allowed to congregate, and I ask they simply dispatch goods to customers and allow persons to return to their homes,” Bradshaw advised.
In a press conference from Government Headquarters at Bay Street, St Michael, Attorney General Dale Marshall also made it clear that police would be taking a no-nonsense approach to keeping law and order and would be rounding up any persons found on the street without a legitimate reason to be outside, or who break the curfew. Ac, sometimes you need to think through things before you open your mouth to list the inventory of encomiums and adulations expected from the likes of Hal.
So where do you think your well-stocked small shops get their supplies from if not from the same foreign-owned big business importers and distributors?
Do you think those goods fit for sale by the kings and queens of retail are imported by the small shop operators directly from China and other places?
At least Saint Corona will prevent the future importation of tamarinds in boxes from Thailand.
Let the small shops play their princely role by buying the local tamarinds and other foods in skins and shells to sell to their new class of ‘small-change’ customers about to mushroom like barflies in a post-Covid rum shop.
@RL
“was reported to have flown 80 tonnes of medical supplies on a corporate jet to Wuhan in late February.”
Didn’t read past this….they must have a massive corporate jet, configured for cargo. The largest Gulfstream has a payload around 4 tonnes.
@ Northern
A jumbo 747 nose loader can carry 378,000 kgs. So if a 1000kgs roughly is a ton not even one of them could handle 400 tons in a single load.
Miller so where do u think small shops got there goods in the good ole days
For them being innovative was the word
Any how if this corona keeps havoc in small island big business might be forced to sell off their over supply of inventory to small business
You see miller Corona might become the new Robbin hood take from the rich and give to the poor

Any other local person of letters in mind (to replace the mock doctor) and with the ability to do a better job??
What do you expect from a cadre of decision-makers bereft of COMMONSENSE and who lack even basic survival skills like the ability to climb a mango tree or carrying a ‘full’ bucket of water from a standpipe or looking after a sheep or cow grazing on a pasture.
How about the prophet Apostle Durant?

Big business has suckered punch small business for years
Now it is small business time to rise to the top
I saw this opening coming reason why i advocate small islands shutting down sooner and forcing the populace to buy amongst their own
A task which govt has been trying to do for many years with no success
Small business now getting a piece of the apple might be the break necessary and needed for them to move ever so slowly to the top

The Asian Flu Pandemic (1956-1958)
Estimated deaths: 2 million
By the mid-1950s, health organizations globally felt that they were beginning to get a handle on at least better monitoring and warning of disease outbreaks. Vaccinations had been developed to address previous strains of the flu. Things were quiet near the beginning of 1957. However, on April 17, 1957, a Times newspaper article reported that ‘an influenza epidemic has affected thousands of Hong Kong residents.’ This would be the start of the second global flu pandemic of the 20th century. By mid-May there were 100,000 reported cases of flu in Taiwan and over a million cases in India by the end of June. That same month cases began to appear in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Symptoms for this version of the flu were similar to previous flu outbreaks: fever, body aches, chills, cough, weakness, and loss of appetite. Vaccines would not be available to address this version of the flu until many months later. Before any vaccines could be made though, a second and deadlier, wave of the flu struck around the end of 1957. By then, some 3,550 deaths were reported in the United Kingdom. As the second wave spread, more victims would succumb. At the start of 1958, it was reported that ‘not less than 9 million people in Great Britain had … Asian influenza.’ Near the end of March 1958, it was estimated that 69,800 people had died from the flu in the United States..

Rotting masks, busted ventilators in U.S. stockpile sent to states fighting coronavirus
I have reservations about the ability of a food distribution supply chain that relies on village shops to be adequate to the needs of Barbados for two weeks. They remain open, but they have no warehouses; all of their suppliers have been ordered to shut down. For exactly how long will there be anything on the shelves.
They have very limited refrigeration capacity and are not capable of holding an inventory of fresh vegetables or fruit. They can at best hold a day or two of inventory of ham or cheese or any other protein that is not canned.
All the canned goods that they stock they do not import themselves… they rely of a supply chain of importers and distribution companies that are mostly owned by the supermarket chains and are now shut down because they are not on the list of essential services.
Does anyone have an official list of essential services? I looked on the GIS Barbados website but could not find such a list.
I just checked the calendar but April 1st was yesterday
Is there a video you can post @John which asks: How the right wing media failed its listeners and the US?
It was startling to read weeks ago that 60% plus of conservatives who watched right wing media’s biased early reporting on the virus did not believe or were NOT worried that someone in their family could catch the virus!
Similarly the drum beat of the upbeat ‘this will pass quickly’ or the talk of it being a Democratic new “hoax” to cripple the WH like the failed impeachment by POTUS…certainly must be considered as a major failing US citizens, shouldn’t it!
For all of you who think this outbreak is going to soon go away, a read of the below extract should disabuse that notion. I also became ill with this. It was no joke . Not as bad as the 1957-8 flu pandemic. But bad. One should look for two waves of infection. Better pray that if there are more mutations the virus becomes attenuated and its virulence and pathogenicity decreases.
Flu Pandemic (1968)
Estimated deaths: 1 million
Similar to the flu pandemic that struck just a decade earlier, this flu also appeared to originate from Hong Kong. Hence, this flu outbreak is sometimes called the Hong Kong Flu. This was the third flu pandemic to hit the globe in the 20th century. First appearing in Hong Kong in July 1968,
Like other outbreaks, this too came in waves. The first wave lasted just six months – disappearing as quickly as it had arrived. However, the virus was not done as it returned in 1969, and again in 1970, and finally in 1972. Even though mortality was lower than previous flu outbreaks, the symptoms were still terrible to feel. It produced symptoms of chills, fever, and muscle pain and weakness.
Did i not say that if the Corona stays around much longer and curfews last longer big business would be forced to supply small business with stock rather than see them spoil on their selves
Who ever thought that in 2020 gas would be below 200 dollars a gallon and more than 1.million people would be jobless
With this virus nothing should be left to chance and nothing is off the table
@ David
Check your email just sent you something of importance.
Scientists are now expected to find solutions. Scientists are under payed. Most do science because of their love of it. They do not get the plaudits that political scientists ,economists ,medical doctors, lawyers and accountants do, nor the fantastic salaries.
Mariposa April 2, 2020 8:25 PM
You know of course that Big business (Massy) will force the village shops to sell at very high prices if the resell Massy stock.
But even this won’t work because Massy warehouse and trucking is not on the list of essential services, so they cannot supply the village shops even if they wanted to.
Will do.

“Media body calls on Bradshaw to clarify statement This statement has the potential to give people the impression, especially at this time when the island requires information on the local situation, that they should not rely on the media for it.”
Everything is going according to plan. The government seems to be studying Tron´s proposals for action very carefully. If the government needs any further suggestions, let me know. Thanks pay attention now to paragraph H where supermarkets will now be opened from 9 to 2 only.
Peter when they stock starts to spoil govt would act on big business behalf and do the right thing
Most likely not everything they sell would be at high cost

But the scientists, and they DO deserve it, scoop up all of the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology and Medicine, and all the honor that goes with those prizes.
Yes scientists deserve to be paid more.
N.B. There is no Nobel Prize for lawyers or accountants.

Isn’t that list you supplied misleading especially (h)? I am on GIS and it quotes the acting PM as follows: “Therefore, as of tomorrow, Friday, April 3, all supermarkets and mini marts shall remain closed, until further notice,”
That list seems to be reflective of yesterdays address
@Sargeant
The list was posted upon the request of John A.
@ Silly Woman April 2, 2020 9:03 PM What about those who do not get one? They have to put food on the table.

I thought so too but it was sent to me a little while ago so not sure if this isn’t an amended statement.

We are trying to find out if this is a late amendment to the decisions this evening or is it yesterday’s statement. If you notice there is no date or time on the statement.
The reason I sent it to David is So We can try and confirm whether it is a current document or not.
Nobody is trying to mislead anyone, in fact quite the opposite. What we want is clarification.
I just watched Tucker Carlson interview Jared Moskowitz of Florida Division of Emergency Management. , 3M company that manufactures lots of scientific equipment is making N95 mask. 10 million/week. Refused to sell to US government . Selling to foreign companies on a cash basis, even although Florida has cash to pay for the mask. Moskowitz has gone public. It is obvious that the top management have put money above their compatriots. I expect the Federal government clamp down on 3M. This is what Barbados is up against, The Daily Mail, UK has shown a method of making masks from T-shirts.

Chinese government rejects allegations that its face masks were defective, tells countries to ‘double check’ instructions

The Chinese government is rebuffing the notion that its face masks exported to other countries were “defective” and suggested that the nations did not “double-check” the instructions.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday claimed in a tweet that the “true story” behind the alleged faulty face masks imported by the Netherlands was that the Chinese manufacturer explicitly “stated clearly that they are non-surgical.”
Representatives from the Chinese government in recent weeks shifted the narrative surrounding the coronavirus’s origins by questioning its validity.

President Trump in a news’ release has just invoked the Defense Production Act against 3M. 3M was receiving bribes and selling to foreign companies. In other words it now must produce for the USA or it is done. When this whole thing is over ,it is going to find doing business in the US very hard.

What exactly is going on at Elmhurst Hospital in NYC? It seems to have gone from a besieged “war zone” (as described to the NY Times by a doctor who, from her bio, appears to be more interested in running medical simulations than doing any actual doctoring) to a relatively quiet and orderly peace zone within a day or two.
Youtuber Amazing Polly:
“I don’t believe the news from Elmhurst hospital. Let me show you why not, and why it is IMPERATIVE that we ask questions and bring the answers out. We are literally fighting for our lives right now.”
