Prime Minister Mia Mottley  advised the country tonight that Barbados will impose a curfew from 8PM to 6AM starting on Saturday 28 March 2020  until 14 April 2020. On a personal note the Prime Minister also shared she will be MIA for a while because her medical team advised her to undergo a medical procedure this coming weekend. Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw will act as prime minister. The blogmaster wishes her well.

YOU ARE A DAMN LIAR!!!!! YOU ARE FAMOUS FOR TELLING LIES AND SHIFTING THE ARGUMENT JUST TO BE RIGHT.

If you say you usually ignore me, THEN WHY READ MY POST AND RESPOND?

It isn’t to say nobody ever reads Barbados Underground. People reading BU would have SEEN what you wrote. WHAT YOU POST IS HERE FOR ALL TO READ AND THEY WILL JUDGE IF I’M TO BELIEVED OR NOT.

You said people should debate ideas and not drift off into insults and abuse.

What SERIOUS DISCUSSION you bring to BU? WHAT IDEAS DO YOU DEBATE?

Is repeating the same nonsense about the president don’t like details, flaring off her hands and giving sermons and having a short attention span, OR CRITICIZING EVERYONE AND EVERY DAMN THING, ENGAGING IN SERIOUS DISCUSSION?

When anyone disagrees with you, you don’t discuss the pros and cons, YOU DRIFT OFF INTO ABUSING AND INSULTING THEM, CALLING THEM savages that should be in the jungle, keyboard warriors, appallingly ignorant, semi-literate, silly, fools that learn by rote and all sorts of insulting names and saying they are suffering from some nonsense you call the Bajan Condition.

You believe you have a right to do this, because you are not here to be popular or win friends, BUT WHEN PEOPLE GIVE YOU A DOSE OF YOUR OWN MEDICINE, you call them lunatics, mad-people, mental cases, demented and should get psychiatric help.

YOU SEE WHY PEOPLE CALL YOU A HYPOCRITE? THE ONLY BODY I THROW STONES AT IS YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE BIGGEST HYPOCRITE HERE.

The thing is, except the 3 or 4 people that does bow down to you, NOBODY ELSE ON BU CARES NOTHING ABOUT YOU, HAL AUSTIN, AND THAT ANNOYS YOU.

I DON’T CARE NOTHING ABOUT YOU AND I DON’T GIVE A RAT’S BOTSY IF HAL AUSTIN RESPONDS TO ME OR NOT. IT WON’T TAKE FOOD OFF MY TABLE OR DEPRIVE ME OF ANYTHING.

Thank you! Not one RH mask or glove bought by the butterfly. I notice it is more than 50 masks but she knows there are exactly 180 gloves. That would be 180 or 90 pairs? How much per box?🤣🤣🤣

  4. PLTdo not hold your breath with Mariposa for her everything since May 24th has been to pull down and blame the government.Tbis same indivisual claims she cares about poor people albeit since may 2018 but does not understand what you are advising her to do.I am surprised her sidekicks Austin and Baje have not come in to support her. However when she is talking nonsense they disappear so not surprising.I hope she takes heed and thinks about the frontline workers.

  5. Good choice!

Leave the rabbit holes for bugs bunny today.

  6. @Baje aka 3 Degrees and ex-army guy,

I knew you were a major league asshole from the time you tried to win an argument with Robert Goren by stating you have 3 degrees, but you are outdoing yourself. What exactly did you study with the free college education the USA granted you after your army service? You may fool the others, but I know a Bajan academic or a person of means doesn’t comes to the USA and join the army.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I SEE THE BAJAN PETTY JOHNNIES HAVE COME OUT IN FULL FORCE.

WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE DOESN’T MAKE IT REALITY.

I HAVE NEVER CLAIMED TO HAVE BEEN IN THE US ARMY SO THAT MAKES YOU A DAMN LIAR.

IN THE US THERE ARE 4 BRANCHES OF SERVICE KEEP PLUGGING.

@ Hal THIS IS THEIR TRUE NATURE.

NO NEED TO RESPOND LET THEM CONTINUE THEIR PERSONAL ATTACKS.

ALSO NO NEED TO DWELL WITH THEM IN THE GUTTER.

I WILL CONTINUE TO SAY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AND CUT AND PASTE WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE APPROPRIATE

    That’s life… It happens.

I personally only get worried when his remarks have an overlay covering of reasonableness but are simply disinformation… Then people can be actually misdirected … but otherwise one can easily pick 1 or 2 and move on!

I quoted you correctly and in context. I never twisted your words in any way shape or form.

It is NOT about the government. It is only about YOU and what choice you choose to make TODAY.

You publicly stated to the blog “Gladly i would give but to those who i knew have no resources or access to buy…” You are now aware that your fellow Bajans who are front line health care workers have great need of such personal protective equipment and are not able to get what they need through their usual supply channels… they “have no resources or access to buy…”

So what are you going to do? Your choice is clear.

Will you live up to your word?

    Or not?

  12. Lorenzo
Mariposa needs no advice from anyone on this blog
If any one that is/was in need of desperate advice is a govt lost of a sense of direction until present time
Govt now having to beholding to small minds to help them in crisis hence a 67 year old man steps forward with an idea
In the meanwhile all the big heads around the world have no answers and govt largest of largess voices are muted
Leave Mariposa alone Mariposa all by her lonesome no large cabinets no big heads to guide her path in times of crisis
    However Mariposa got it right

This is your chance to show how different you are from the government that you dislike.
Do you have “character and vision?”
You surely wouldn’t want to be one of those “in times of crisis as uncaring and playing free and fancy with the lives of the people.”

We now is your chance my friend to silence all those who put you down as being no different from those you criticize. Show them that you are different. Donate your masks to the QEH A&E and then laugh in the face of your political opponents.

    You can do it.

    Do the right thing.

  15. @ Mariposa

Don’t let @PLT burden you with guilt. The responsibility for equipping the frontline workers is that of the government’s and the health authorities. As a private citizen you have a right to share your things with whom ever you choose. Ignore this bogus morality.
Tell the government to get out and plan properly, rather than walking on to cruise liners with a 37-strong army and declaring it free of coronavirus and in the process putting the nation at risk. This is a time for good political leadership.

    @Mariposa & @Hal
A human being’s character is defined by their actions, by their choices, particularly in times of crisis.

It is easy and cost free to criticize the government. If we want to be thought of as a person with character, more than cheap criticism of the government is required of us.

Yes, of course the Barbados government f*cked up… so did the Chinese government, the UK government, the Italian government, the US government, the Trinidad government etc., etc.

The question that confronts each of us in this moment is “what am I going to do, right here, right now, to help my fellow human beings?”

That is what this time demands of each and every one of us. If you do not ask this of yourself and come up with a satisfactory answer, then you have shown a deficiency of character.

  17. Peter
In many of my comments i gave ideas as to how givt can make masks
U down play the idea with a onesided thought process of material
In many people minds who are in the frontline something is better than nothing
I will bet that some on the frontline have seen it fit to go the route wherby they can make some form of protection
Your consistent harping about what i should do with what is rightfully my own makes for uncontrollable laughter even after i said that i have family members and others who need mask and gloves
Now u tell me where do u proposed i buy other mask and gloves after giving what i have for myself and family members
My choices i have made as to who i give

    SPOT ON.

LET THEM PULL BACK SOME MONEY FROM OVERPRICED 2ND HAND GARBAGE TRUCKS ($4 MILLION +) and PORT SCANNERS OVER $20 MILLION BOTH GIVEN TO BLP CRONIES WITH NO PUBLIC TENDERS.

A 10% CLAWBACK (CUT) WOULD PAY FOR MANY THOUSANDS OF MASKS AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FOR FRONTLINE PERSONNEL.

THAT IS THE KIND OF POSITIVE CHANGE BARBADOS NEEDS.

    TRANSPARENT AND FULL OF INTEGRITY.

  19. @PLT

Bogus moral philosophy would not do. Our ‘character’ is defined by more than what you call actions, however that is defined. We cannot offload a biased morality on someone else and then talk about moral responsibility.
Our lives is a social compact, there is a reciprocal obligation, between state and individual. If the state, for reasons you state, fails, it (and its apologists) cannot then turn to individuals and order citizens. them to take up the mantle. No.
The people we have elected to high office have a double obligation – as citizens and as leaders – if they have failed then then have an obligation to remove themselves, not bully them in to submission.
Do onto to others…. Bullying @Mariposa is wrong, no matter the superficiality of the language. Is she the ‘scumbag’ or those who want to de-humanise her first? The BU verbal gangsters?
We must stop pointing fingers, and that includes those who first attack @Mariposa, then complain when she retaliates. We all have a right to defend ourselves. @Mariposa never claimed to be Mother Teresa

Please do your research Mariposa. Masks made by seamstresses out of cotton fabric are INADEQUATE for front line health care workers.

How does it make you feel that a young doctor in QEH A&E has only two of the N95 masks that they need… these are disposable masks that they should have discarded days ago, but they cannot because the shelves of every pharmacy in Barbados have been cleared of good masks that now sit in drawers instead of on the face of a doctor or nurse at risk.

How does it make you feel that this young Bajan doctor has only this response… they think of their six year old child and they write their last will and testament.

Of course our government has failed them… does that mean that we must also fail them??

As deaths continue to mount and infections continue to rise from the novel coronavirus pandemic, not to mention the catastrophic economic impact that’s being felt at the local, state, and federal level here in the US, one question continues to be asked by people desperate for the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel:

How much longer will this go on?

There’s so much we don’t know about this virus, from why it hits some people hard while completely sparing other people to when the spread will finally taper off. New York City, in particular, has been hit hard and is struggling to keep its health care infrastructure from collapsing under the weight of the virus. Meanwhile, researchers from the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics have come up with a model estimating when every state will hit its peak in terms of hospital use and resources hitting its max, as well as deaths from the virus peaking in the state.
These numbers are downright gloomy. The website, for example, is currently showing that the US will experience its worst single day of deaths from the coronavirus around the middle of April, with an estimated 2,271 deaths from the virus projected for April 15.

These projections can seem pretty scary, because while that number reflects the worst single-day death total from the virus in the US, another estimate is that the cumulative total of deaths to-date from the virus will top 82,000 by early August.

If you plug in different states, the estimates show New York hitting its peak in coronavirus deaths a little over a week from now, while Florida’s would come in early May.

I apologise Mariposa, for my name calling and insults. I have shed many tears over my inability to help my young acquaintance at QEH A&E, and my frustration at knowing that somewhere on this rock there might be N95 masks that they could use has made me inconsiderate of your feelings. Please accept my apology.

I have spent a couple hundred US ordering 10 masks from some shady organisation in Singapore, But we all know that my chances of not being ripped off are slim.

  30. There have been lots of talk about the virus being manufactured. The below extract has been published in Science alert and Nature Medicine

    HEALTH
The COVID-19 Virus May Have Been in Humans For Years, Study Suggests
    JACINTA BOWLER30 MARCH 2020
As COVID-19 has hitchhiked around the globe, causing lockdowns, pneumonia and fear, scientists have been racing to determine where the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has come from.

While we don’t have all the answers yet – including whether it came from an animal reservoir – a new analysis has definitively put to rest the conspiracies that claim it’s a lab-made disease.

The study raises some interesting possibilities regarding the origin of the new coronavirus. One of the scenarios suggests the virus may have been circulating harmlessly in human populations for quite a while before it became the pandemic that’s now stopped the world in its tracks.

“It is possible that a progenitor of SARS-CoV-2 jumped into humans, acquiring [new genomic features] through adaptation during undetected human-to-human transmission,” the team from the US, UK and Australia writes in the study.

“Once acquired, these adaptations would enable the pandemic to take off and produce a sufficiently large cluster of cases.”

The researchers analysed genomic data available from SARS-CoV-2 and other similar coronaviruses, showing that the receptor-binding domain (RBD) sections of SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins were so effective at binding to human cells, they had to be caused by natural selection.

“By comparing the available genome sequence data for known coronavirus strains, we can firmly determine that SARS-CoV-2 originated through natural processes,” said one of the researchers, immunologist Kristian Andersen at Scripps Research.

“Two features of the virus, the mutations in the RBD portion of the spike protein and its distinct backbone, rules out laboratory manipulation as a potential origin for SARS-CoV-2.”

With ‘laboratory experiment gone wrong’ out of the way, the team explored two viable hypotheses. First, that the natural selection occurred in an animal host before the virus was transmitted to humans. The team explains that although samples of coronaviruses in bats and pangolins have shown similar genomes, none of them fit perfectly just yet.

“Although no animal coronavirus has been identified that is sufficiently similar to have served as the direct progenitor of SARS-CoV-2, the diversity of coronaviruses in bats and other species is massively undersampled,” the researchers write.

The second hypothesis is that the natural selection happened in humans – after the virus was transmitted from an animal host.

“The second scenario is that the new coronavirus crossed from animals into humans before it became capable of causing human disease,” director of the National Institute of Health, Francis Collins explains on the NIH blog.

“Then, as a result of gradual evolutionary changes over years or perhaps decades, the virus eventually gained the ability to spread from human-to-human and cause serious, often life-threatening disease.”

Although we don’t yet know which of the two hypotheses is correct, the researchers think that more evidence might tip the scales in favour of one or the other – but we’ll have to wait for that research to be done.

In the meantime, wash your hands, stay home, and help with the effort if you can.

A govt whose interest was placed on the top of a ladder of looking out for the privileged while the massses hunger and taste for water across the island

  34. On the Internet one can be anything, write anything, profess certain beliefs, claim to be educated, resourceful, well- travelled and be the confidant of important people, one’s imagination is unlimited.

Mariposa has the singular ability to get some persons knickers in a twist, so what if she claims to have a supply of masks and gloves? Who can verify that? If she wants to use that claim as a cudgel to beat the Gov’ts head isn’t that what she has been doing since May of 2018? If PPEs are in short supply at the QEH it shouldn’t come as a revelation as that institution is notorious for its chronic shortage of supplies and in this environment, it will be difficult to source same as the Gov’t will be competing with many other Gov’ts.
Does Barbados have any chips to call in with China? China just shipped tons of PPE’s to the US to assist that country in its fight against COVID 19 perhaps it could direct a small planeload to Bim.

  37. The pandemic is peculiar to certain areas of certain countries.

That is a key in trying to model it.

It is likely that the celebrations attracted the young.

The young in many cases still live at home.

When they return they infect the old.

IT is like children and school.

Because of economic realities, young people stay at home longer than before.

So the older population gets hammered.

Yet none not one of them had to decency to hold govt feet to fire in a case for prevention and the safety of the people
Over and over again i have pointed that with govt having a treasure box filled with 1.5 billion dollars the govt had more than enough money with plenty left over to buy mask early in the year
No!but in usual undemocratic style as has been witness since Govt took office unilateral decision can happen whenever and to anyone whenever it pleases govt and its supporters
Hence the couple of two footed flat footed blp crab soldiers cant wait to grab hold of my property to save face for govt

You last comment has a better tone of asking people to reach out
Rather than your earlier messages of attack within mischievous and demeaning characterization
As a matter of fact i will do my best reaching out to other sources to see if they can do whatever is possible for the workers
My last words on this issue

    @John
by the time this pandemic has waned, you will have examined so many theories, one of them has to ‘righter’ than others?
I note you have avoided some larger gatherings….one of the largest early in the calendar year is the Daytona 500 and associated races, the two PGA events held in Fla (third was cancelled) and Bike week which was held in early March. Then again, all 3 are generally pro Republican events? And great spreaders, for the attendees generally come from ‘all over’. In fact, some of Fla early cases were NY’s headed for Bike Week.
Just waiting for you to tie together that major hot spots are heavily urban, homes of major airports, and usually vote Democrat.

  47. @ PLT: Perhaps, we can also try a slightly different approach. There is growing debate within the CDC and elsewhere re the efficacy of N-95 masks versus others including “homemade”masks, increasingly being made in the US.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The PRC is (in)famous for borrowing intellectual property, regardless of intellectual property rights. Perhaps, one might consider doing likewise, somehow getting the proper specs, and insofar as this is not the most advanced high technology, why can’t the government produce these locally en masse? I see seamstresses producing necessary masks here in the US. There is no evidence so far that these, properly made, are any less effective. Time obviously is of essence. … (But, as for me, I simply prefer to stay indoors).

  48. You could ask the SILLY WHITE WOMAN you married that was rejected by her own colour, when both of you sit down to drink gin and juice. She might have all the answers you’re seeking.
