Prime Minister Mia Mottley advised the country tonight that Barbados will impose a curfew from 8PM to 6AM starting on Saturday 28 March 2020 until 14 April 2020. On a personal note the Prime Minister also shared she will be MIA for a while because her medical team advised her to undergo a medical procedure this coming weekend. Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw will act as prime minister. The blogmaster wishes her well.

We can only hope and pray for their safe recovery.
I spent a lot of the 90’s with the Heart Foundation as a result of my voluntary service with LIONS.
As a layman I saw a lot of people who had survived open heart surgery’ some who had “died” on the operating table all sorts.
What I got from the experience is “DON’T SMOKE”
I had my own experience with my heart, kind of like a miracle.
Never smoked but still have cardiovascular disease even though I have always had good exercise.
I know smoking will kill you.
I’ve watched family and friends who have smoked and faced health problems.
Those problems were/are not nice.
Just “DON’T SMOKE”.

Does this man UNDERSTAND that morgues in some citiies CANNOT take the numbers of deceased as they are overfull; that funeral directors are also under pressure; that refrigerated trucks are almost de rigeur outside hospitals in NY, New Orleans, places in California and in Paris and In Italy, or the larger numbers of cadavers!

So true, John. There is a Bajan saying, “Someting got to cah yuh.” There is a time to live and a time to die. As someone who probably has less time to live than I have already lived, I do not intend to waste time worrying about my death. That being said I will take all actions that are in my power to delay my demise.
There is a movie called “Pompeii” which has the most poignant ending I have ever seen. Faced with inescapable death from a raging volcano a young woman and her valiant male friend set their horse free so that he could have the chance to outrun the volcano without the added burden that would condemn them all to death. Then the young lady tells her friend that she refuses to spend the last moments of her life in a frantic and futile attempt to escape death. She determines to enjoy the last moments to the limit. So they die together locked in a passionate embrace.
From the time my son became old enough to understand death I have spoken to him about what he should do in the event of my death. He knows all about my assets and before all this broke loose I was on my way to preparing my will. I have told him what I want in terms of a funeral i.e. as simple and inexpensive as possible. I have told him that he should allow himself to mourn but not for too long because death is inevitable. I have told him that he must enjoy the rest of his life remembering all the good times. Today he told me that I turn everything into a joke. Sometimes he begs me to stop because his side is in stitches. After I’m gone he will still be laughing.
And so I went to the supermarket today (practising social distancing but still cracking jokes with the shoppers, of course) and calmly stocked up enough food and medicine to prevent me from having to leave home for a few months. I have asked my son to stop his friends from even passing by. We are taking this virus and the expected economic ramifications seriously but philosophically. And I MEAN philosophically. This morning we discussed what good can be salvaged out of this global pandemic in terms of a re-order of some attitudes and priorities. We looked at how all sectors of society have come to realize their interdependence.
In the meantime we are doing what we CAN do rather than sitting around moaning. He did most of the forking in my budding garden. The chives are still alive. Tomorrow I will start my compost pile and plant some garlic. Every day I will plant something else until all my planting material is gone. I am taking regular exercise. The martial arts instructor is live streaming classes. My son is using the time indoors to set up his website and create his product. He is also taking advantage of the bonus month from CXC.
It is good to keep an eye on the government’s handling of this crisis. In doing so though we should remember that EVERY COUNTRY is struggling to strike a balance. It is far easier for us to “flap our gums” on BU. This is not a mathematical equation.that can be easily solved.
And as we opine that Mia Mottley does not care about Bajans we should remember that by virtue of being out and about more than the average citizen, she will be more vulnerable just as Boris Johnson was.
And I bet she still smokes like a chimney.
And she also has a old mother and father and other relatives and friends in Barbados just as we do.

The number of cases is unknown.
I think the reason Mexico has so few deaths is because the virus is neither as contagious or as deadly as thought.
It isn’t anything scientific the authorities are doing.
Social distancing is a natural human response and works.
New York, New Orleans, the West Coast and also Europe are all man made.
It was the number of infections from the celebrations at the beginning that is the difference between America, Europe and Mexico.
So real hope I believe for most countries.
The virus will soon pass for most countries but it will take longer in Europe.
New York, New Orleans and their environs will also take longer to clear but not as long as Europe.
I don’t think reinfection of large populations is going to happen once there is no repeat of the celebrations and close contact of large numbers.
I think if people in New York and its environs, New Orleans and its environs and other epicentres stay put the rest of America will get back to work.

Yesterday WHO retracted earlier comments on mask wearing by stating that wearing of mask would be helpful since the virus can be released through the droplets caused by sneezing and can live in the atmosphere for a period of time
Not one to brag or boast but observation is a crucial and important monitoring device
It serves purpose well in areas where book knoweldge is limited to present and ongoing circumstances
Was reading where USA state dept had to rely on the use of intelligence to track the source of the virus in China and other undemocractic countries
The source of the (now) released information states that the info gathered is still not as accurate in numbers in China and Russia from what he has observed through intelligence gathering because China has blocked much of what is happening through the use of technology
Book knoweldge is good but precise and crtical information can only be done through observation
President Carter once told a story of asking a commuinist official how he gets some of his intelligence and the official pointed to his eyes

I have seen people coming on BU talking about their qualifications, the number of properties they have, how often they travel, etc, without a buzz. I have also seen people coming on BU and claiming they were at school with me (and by definition with @Bajan in New York) in the 1970s. It got cheap laughs.
So did the keyboard warriors making other such claims. I remember one man, who uses eight different non-de-plumes, who make a claim and when I innocently pointed out it was wrong, he apologised. Two weeks later, he returned to it. It was too good a laugh to let go of.

“A&E is responsible for moderate to severe cases.
I have 2 masks.

Everything is limited
The ventilators that Rihanna paid for…..Trump put a hold on exports so we won’t see those until the USA is recovering
USA has put a hold on exporting all medical equipment so we will not be getting any masks or gowns imported either
Hence why I decided to get a will
If anyone has any contacts
I wear a 1805S OR 1804S N95 masks. If you find any I will pay close to whatever for them…”
If you have an ounce of decency, Mariposa, you will donate your hoard of masks to QEH A&E no later than TODAY.

I normally ignore this mental case, but he continues to write nonsense and there is a danger people will believe him. I will answer each one of these claims as he puts them:
1) I owned a small book shop in South London;
2) I have never claimed to have rented out a flat on BU or in private, because it is NOT true;
3) I have never said I told my journalists anything. Maybe the man cannot understand English. I said I had lunch with a FORMER colleague who told me that the CURRENT editors of the paper had a principle they applied when faced with a tough editorial decision: what would Hal have done? ie past tense; I said that when @Robert Lucas said something about one of his former students and I made the point it was a good legacy, one I was happy with;
.4) Unfortunately, meeting with government ministers was part of my job for over 40 years; over the years I have met UK, Australian, Japanese and CARIBBEAN MINISTERS.
5) Sadly, I have been asked to give all kinds of speeches and take part in discussions, including to Barbadian organisations in the UK;
6)My paternal grandparents, bless their souls, owned a rum shop and bakery in Nelson Street and my mother owned one in the Ivy; not a boast, but a statement of fact;

Again, this English language is very difficult to understand. Staying home is not an option for all when you might have elderly parents to look after some of their needs

A well-known distributor informed Barbados TODAY that when in stock, a case of 120 N95 face masks is sold for $630;
a box carrying 50 ‘regular’ surgical face masks cost $15.50, and $63 is the price of 50 surgical masks with a “visor and plastic shield
that covers the eye area”.
