  1. Murder rate will increase no matter what
In meanwhile some expectations floating by govt lackeys that because the numbers are small the crime has dissipated and all else should not matter
Only this morning such a theory ( by my observation) was floated on BU by the blogmaster
A couple hours later he is proven wrong
This time by a gunmen firing power on a man

  2. Mariposa,

As long as the blowflies in the drug war are killing each other, the government is doing everything right. The island’s overpopulated anyway.

@David. Cross fingers, murders for january and february are trending toward the normal average of about 2.5 per month. We should be on constant alert, vigilant and don’t take this issue for granted, because homicide violence, once become entrenched, spreads like a disease and hard to reverse. St Kitts and the US Virgin island are prime examples.

  4. @Mariposa

“Most likely they might be engaging in other strategies undetectable by police force until bodies are found”.

You may be onto something here. I remember the young man found in a shallow grave in St. Andrew. I may be wrong, but I recall someone on this blog said the RBPF called it a suicide. You are not as dense as many on here think. Has that murder been solved, has anyone been arrested. Enquiring minds want to know.

  5. You are a pompous arrogant hypocritical person whose qualities have been exposed over and over on the blog and Facebook.
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE AUTHOR I SEE YOU HAVE FINALLY TAKEN A HARD LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR.

@HAL HE IS A BUFFOON AND KNOWS NO BETTER.

YOU MUST PITY HIM AND SHOW EMPATHY.

IT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LIVE ON A LITTLE ROCK ALL OF YOUR LIFE..

  6. Dame Baje
A point an example which i made as to suspucion and cloudiness of explanation by govt which leans towards govt truthfulness in explaining suspicious deaths ( away) uncategorized as murder
There are some here on BU who would rather closed eyes to the mind games that govt and officials are playing in full view against the people
Hence when i speak from logic comprised of observation the bone heads strick back at me as if i really care what they think
Only bird brains would take at face value that a body found with trauma marks would be quick to belive that the person place them selves in a covered hole or burial place

  7. Tron
How about those who were killed that were not involved in drugs
Or how about Caswell.encounter with thugs
Wunna so delusional.that it is pathetic beyond reason to belive that people not involved in drug activity would be spared the violence that has taken a foot hold in barbados

  8. @ Baje

I appreciate the effort he puts in in managing the blog, but his ideas are basic and silly. I suggested to him to manage the site objectively, and if he wants to join debates do so anonymously. But, predictably, he goes on the war path. Just ignore him.

If the CoronaVirus pandemic deepens THERE WILL BE A NOTICEABLE DROP IN THE MURDERS!

De ole man knows that people gine ask how I know dat but I is not going disclose my sources heheheheh

Suffice it to say that “disruption” of all types, applies itself similarly in any environment.

So when de ole man talks about “political disruption”, the same thing applies in a reduction in murder count as will apply in the political sphere.

Coronavirus is a natural governor for murders.

In fact, de ole man will predict that there will be a decrease in murder counts regionally and globally WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS DEEPENS!

  10. You never admit when you have been exposed as wrong. Instead you prefer to label everyone appallingly ignorant or a buffoon be it Artax, Dee Word et al. Once some agree with you it matters not if they are anonymous commenters, they are your best buddies. You want to dish it out but you cannot take. Well news flash, the blogmaster is going to let you have it every time. If you don’t like it you know what to do. Some of you like to dish but sometimes the blogmaster will bare his knuckles. Now go long with your groupthink buddies.

    #buffoon

  11. You are such a dishonest commenter. The debate has been about you suggesting that murders are being underreported by the government. Now you in your usual way have shifted your position. No wonder Artax is always calling you out.

  12. @fortyacres

As Bajans we have to hope last year was an outlier. The blogmaster is concerned though the underlying issues have not changed.

  13. There u go again with you fickle mindedness
As i say dont give a rat a.ss what u think
    As for Artax. Steupse
    Deal with that

  14. Honesty and humility will always separate some from the others.

@David. I was looking at the FBI UCR crime statistics a few weeks ago. They have recently started to publish supplemental detailed data on the victims and perpretrators, relationship between victims and perpretrators, type of weapon used, and circumstances surrounding death. Example, in the usa in 2018, 40.6 % of all murders were committed by known persons of the victims ( families and acquaintances). Handguns were used in 64% of total cases. And only 4.3% of all murders were due to gang killings.

I would like to see the police in Barbados collecting and publishing detailed statistics on murders like what was mentioned above. This could go a long way in providing a more robust analysis and policy prdscription.

  16. And i will continue to be honest with what i observed coming from govt officials mouth which are contrary and illogical in certain aspect as to what contributed to some deaths
And would not hide or feel any sense of humilation coming from your mouth David
Facts are facts and cannot be sweep away by the replacement of sweet sounding words

  17. @fortyacres

Thanks, the police have admitted publicly to following social media, let us hope they pick up on your useful suggestion.

    @ Mariposa

The Natalie Critchlow matter had some controversy about it, one was unable ultimately to definitively decide what happened with the lady, and the conflicting stories, and the manner that the police handled it, remain suspect.

Were there not videos of the shooting of the white man during the house invasion, de ole man suspects that would have been deep sixed like the Natali Critchlow matter.

But the murder of the box with his burial in a shallow grave was a situation where ON THE SECOND OCCASION HE WAS TRYING IT, the people he was attempting to jack, caught one of a pair AND KILLED HIM.

THAT WAS MURDER, AND A RIGHTEOUS MURDER AT THAT TOO!

It is obvious Mariposa that you, armed without any facts, would seek to politicize these 2 matters.

You need to stop that AND GET FACTS FROM PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY KNOW and provide you the information.

You need to know who he robbed the first time? and who was looking for him? and who, on learning he was back in the neighbourhood, called their crew and went to kill both the passenger and the driver!

To discredit the Attorney General you need facts about their disinformation campaign that, once you expose them, HE IS CONFIRMED TO BE AN A.**HOLE

@Mr Blognaster, I want to jump in re your chat with @40Acres…. why does he surmise and you facilitate -despite the background of endless data on this blog over these years – his suggestion that the RBPF nor other agencies is NOT collecting “.. .detailed statistics on murders like what was mentioned above.”

Based on what we discussed some months back re quite extensive reporting from local criminologists on causation types , motivation and more re folks at Dodds and what I saw posted here first (I believe) from an IADB sponsored reported titled “Crime and Violence in Barbados” what he asked for has been done now for several years.

Maybe the police PR does not publish this stuff to all and sundry but clearly the data and stats are ‘readily’ (I can only presume) available….and iIt is noted that “Research into crime and violence in Barbados has remained glaringly limited. This needs to enjoy a more prominent position within the research agenda of Barbadian academics.”

But …the IADB reports does states in summary abstract:

“The report compiles available data from multiple sources to provide a diagnostic of the size, characteristics, and changing nature of the problem in Barbados in recent years. In addition, the report provides a survey of the various crime-prevention and suppression policies, programs, and projects adopted by the government, private companies, and nongovernmental organisations…

    A few excerpts : Motives
    • “Dispute” was the motive with the highest average rate (9.6 per 100,000) between 2009 and 2013. Burglary reported the lowest (0.2). […] • Disputes accounted for half of all murders reported to the police in 2013. This was followed by domestic violence (33 per cent).

    Violence in the Home
•The Family Conflict Intervention Unit was established in June 2013 to respond to, and record more detailed data on family matters. […] • There were 220 cases of domestic abuse reported to the Family Conflict Intervention Unit between June and December 2013 and 423 cases reported in 2014. • In both years, those in relationships where the victim and offender were categorized as “separated” accounted for the largest proportion of reported cases (40 per cent in 2013; 45 per cent in 2014). • Between June and December 2013, 83 per cent of all reported cases involved a male aggressor. The same was true of 94 per cent of reported cases in 2014. • For both 2013 (June to December) and 2014, “assaults” accounted for the majority of cases of domestic abuse reported.

I was browsing the report recently thus the remarks above caught my attention as seemingly being unaware of what is already done.

Now to more mundane blog matters.

@William, I would readily agree that the Blogmaster should be a lot more circumspect and balanced with his ripostes but after these what 10 years or so I sense he has gotten totally pissed off by the antics of some regular bloggers.

As you guys touched on @Austin I regrettably will have to involve him … if you go back and read earlier days blogs you surely will be reminded of the glorious relationship between Blogmaster and @Austin… when that shattered i know not.

But to be fair to the Blogmaster, if you have an experienced, worldly guys who can one day say: “I expect rational and informed discussion, not just ill-informed nonsense. […] You debate with them, prove them wrong…”, but then on any other day launch into tirades like this one:

“…You are a brain dead idiot. […] You stupid fellow. In future I shall not respond to anything you say. You are dumb. Follow the thread. IF IN DOUBT, CLARIFY – ASK A QUESTION.”

Two wrongs, it is said, can never make one right so again I repeat I do not condone the Blogmaster going off as he did above BUT… this man @Austin clearly displays that type of ridiculous hypocrisy on these pages that can cause one to ‘go off’.

Any editor or Blogmaster has to show equanimity … we get that…he (or she) shouldn’t cuss people who also cuss other people … but good heavens blatant hypocrisy is quite distressing!

…on another mundanevmatter… As for @Mariposa, s/he is relentlessly partisan and thus hyper hypocritical. Surely entitled to their opinions and valid criticism but to be prancing up about a spike in drug and gang related murders is pure BS.

The same IADB reports noted above, listed crime and murder spikes during the tenure of his/her administration… so what balls they have to be talking as if this is a novel virus… lt isn’t.

If the Mottley admin has made it worst, then let’s say how and criticize them relentlessly but the Dem’s AG and PM did not cover themselves in glory in solving these crime problems so much of the Mariposa verbiage comes over as just ridiculous.

I don’t think that any blog master who relishes calling people RH and Jackasses , can seriously talk about “quality”. The blogmaster promised sometime ago to change the format. The suggestion was welcomed by Pacha , who even offered to write a weekly column. We haven’t heard anything about the new format yet.
BU is a great blog but the blogmaster blows hot and cold on what is appropriate.,If he is attempting to be a devils advocate, his efforts have been below par.

  21. @Dee Word

If the data is always available you will agree it is never packaged for dissemination in a consistent way to persuade the public.

  22. Facts that is what i seek in my comments
Reason why if one reads with clarity i bring my points to table in a manner to seek facts not as one suggest in a political format but in questionable format
My comment solely displays an intent to hold those authorities armed with explanation to be fully transparent
I dont know what happen to the victim i was not at the scence
But in the case of Natalie Chrichlow i saw a video i heard her explanation then the authorities dispute her story or gave another version
Then what resonates is a story of conflict “as to what happen ”
Therfore it is for the authorities to bring facts which can clarify the truthfulness of the story
    Not mariposa
As i say i put my comments to table to seek facts

  23. But Piece why should i belive or consider your version of what happened to the boy in St. Andrew as fact
The underlying interest is what i seek called truthfulness of the facts
The authorities say one thing and u have your version
Yet u condemn my comments as being political
Boy uh tell u when truth is missing all hell breaks loose
    Exhibit A guyana

  24. You seem to bring out the animal in some bloggers on BU. If they think you write nonsense, or just do not agree with you, why can’t they just read on. I have had one insane blogger who tried to manufacture an email then claimed it was sent by me. That is not a political difference, it is fraud. I can give other examples, by both males and females..
They seem to object to the fact that in a previous life, if true, you were AC, a DLP fan, all kinds of things as if they matter. I also com in for some stick for supporting you. Instead of ignoring you, they spend all their time Googling and attacking you.
It is amazing how angry some of them get when you do not share their views. It is that nasty, aggressive, sometimes violent Bajan Condition.
    As I have said, it brings out the hungry, undomesticated animal in them – savagery. They belong to the jungle.. {Quote}

    @ Hal Austin

You are a DISHONEST, HYPOCRITICAL, LIAR.

Silly man, one day you said……. I think we will do a lot better if we were to concentrate on debating ideas rather than DRIFTING in to PERSONAL INSULTS and ABUSE, even if that is the Barbados way {Quote}, and WITHIN AN HOUR you was calling the blogmaster illiterate.

The blogmaster and some bloggers on BU don’t BRING OUT the ANIMAL in you also? If you think he and some other blogger write nonsense, or they don’t agree with you, WHY CAN’T YOU READ ON, TOO, instead of CALLING them APPALLINGLY IGNORANT, SILLY, SEMI-LITERATE BUFFOONS?

    You also said ……With me, if people want to get in the sewer, it is not a nice place, BUT I CAN FOLLOW…..{Quote}

Now, tell me what that means? It means that you ain’t NO DIFFERENT to the rest of us here. It is that SAME nasty, aggressive, sometimes violent Bajan Condition.

You calling them so don’t ALSO BRINGS OUT the HUNGRY, UNDOMESTICATED ANIMAL IN YOU – SAVAGERY, too? You ain’t BELONG to the JUNGLE, too?

What is the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOW YOU BEHAVE and the WAY you DESCRIBE HOW PEOPLE BEHAVE?

Or, is it a case of DO AS YOU SAY and NOT AS YOU DO?

You also GOOGLE articles and post them to BU. Google becomes a good source of information ONLY WHEN YOU USE IT. You don’t Google Barbados Underground, you does go in the attic and find it in one of your old books?

I remember a time when you said the brain is a muscle and Georgie Porgie said you were talking nonsense and explained how. You GOOGLED a lot of articles and posted them to BU trying to prove you were right.

And that is a next thing about you. When somebody prove you wrong, you does shift the argument just to PROVE YOURSELF RIGHT.

You feel the people here are BENEATH you, you is the brightest and smartest body here on BU.

The real Bajan condition is when dirt poor people like you go to live overseas, marry old dirt poor white women that are rejected by their own colour, wunnuh does adopt English accents and wunnuh feel wunnuh arrive, and then all of a sudden, Bajans are imbeciles and everything on the island is bad.

What does make me laugh is the fact that you have all sorts of NASTY THINGS to say about BU and its contributors, yet you are the FIRST man to comment here EVERY DAY.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER?????????????

  25. Robert what is NASTY is your attack on Hals personnel
What business is it of yours anyway who he marries and speaking of fact which everyone criticizes me for not bringing on BU
How do you know what was Hal financial situation when he left barbados
For what it is worth your attack on Hal personnel life speaks to you having a condition of a mindless bone headed jealous loser
    Have a sh.iity day

  26. Two wrongs, it is said, can never make one right so again I repeat I do not condone the Blogmaster going off as he did above BUT… this man @Austin clearly displays that type of ridiculous hypocrisy on these pages that can cause one to ‘go off’. {Quote}

    INTERESTING……… and TRUE!!!!!!

  27. @ Mariposa

I DON’T CARE NOTHING ABOUT YOU OR HAL AUSTIN.

Why don’t you MIND your semi-literate business and concentrate on writing proper English, instead of putting together words to form sentences that people can’t understand.

If he is your god, he certainly is NOT mine.

What is there about Hal Austin that would make me jealous?

Why don’t you ever come out to DEFEND the people on BU he INSULTS EVERYDAY?

A lot of you hypocrites REMAIN SILENT when he calls people all sorts of nasty names, when people reciprocate, you hypocrites come out to defend him, trying to make him out to be the victim.

I don’t hear you say nothing when he calls the blogmaster silly man, buffoon, idiot, semi-literate, illiterate, bone head and telling him he does not know English.

Hal Austin has a nasty attitude and I will continue to remind him as long as the blogmaster does not delete my post or ban me.

As long as that wannabe hypocritical liar keeps coming here to DEGRADE people, I will keep on degrading him.

  28. @Robert

  29. Ok bone head
Check the dictionary for meaning. Robert

  30. Fact being it is when one mentions the word govt as it now applies to present govt the swords are drawn
Over the past ten years it was a free for all attacks by all on sundry at past govt and supporters
I also would recall the many times Hal crticize past govt policies and he was handed a pat on the back
However when he makes mention of the Chairman Mia and her ridiculous photo ops and her constant taking control of govt official and ministers role to speak on matters of concerns
The knives are drawn and he is attack
Nobody see the attacks on him but all sees Hal attacks on others
As Hal would say it is a bajan condition learning by rote
Btw Robert i went to stan pipe school and graduated from the
    University of hard knocks
Uh think uh do pretty well when wrestling with the so-called intellectual knuckleheads on this blog

  31. PEA BRAIN

They attack him for his constant attempts of trying to degrade the other bloggers on BU and especially David and shifting when he is proven wrong.

    yuh lie !

  32. @ Mariposa

I checked the dictionary for the meaning of bone head and saw that it means a numbskull or stupid person, and there was a PICTURE of YOU as an EXAMPLE. Yuh don’t even have to look in the dictionary, all you have to do is read your posts.

    For what it is worth your attack on Hal personnel life {Quote}

Yuh went school at de pipe school fuh trute. You don’t know the difference between PERSONAL and PERSONNEL.

Basically i make my concerns and move on
It is only today now that you made yuh Nasty comments about Hal personnel life i respond
    Be that as it may

How you don’t ever read my posts, but you still respond to the ones today 3 or 4 times?

Yuh respond to others too. Yuh semi-literate bone head liar.

Yuh right, I gine gots to keep reading your posts, because anytime I want a good laugh I does come on BU and read the tripe you does write.

Look, I dun wid you and that.

Thanx and you have a jobby day, too.

  35. In the mean time – oil prices tumbles = a + for Barbados/government finances/ and the average bajan at the pumps.

who said god is not a bajan?
note I asked a question and not made a statement for you people here that will twist what I say.

  36. @John 2

The S&P is also tumbling which has the effect of destroying wealth of investors and travelers . Not good for Barbados.

  37. Good news for the poor amongst us who survive this economic explosions
Investors and those who put all their stocks in China might experience how it feels to tumble off their financial perch and hit rock bottom
Finally the poor might get a little breathing room after the virus calms itself down and the rich looks for greener pastures to lay their eggs

    Piece the Legend

    Every blog has a purpose.

De ole man will suggest that this one is focused Social Activism whose impetus seeks to have government and civil society improve the lot of our citizenry.

What is clearly a repeating factor I’d the politicians consider that appointment to parliament IS A RH LOTTERY TICKET!

An the ensuing corruption CLICO, ICBL, former MPs Lammie, Arson Distrust, Thompy, Pornville and pretending acts and promises of Integrity Legislation and Freedom of Information are just lies and planned deceipt

Realistically how can a blog effect change?

Without a doubt BLOGGING does do its purpose else there would be no Cambridge Analytica etc.

Nor would there be need for countries to disable the internet globally.

“…This year alone, at least 29nations—including Venezuela, Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia—have shut down the web to prevent the spread of information those governments deem dangerous…”

And, depending on the perspective or who you serve, the methods that you use, even though civilly circumscribed MAY BE DEEMED DISRESPECTFUL at best and SUBVERSIVE/TREASONOUS at worst!

Barbados Underground IS NO DIFFERENT insofar as its purpose is seen to support the free expression about all things Bajan, but “all things bajan” are not allowed to be talked about BY ALL PEOPLE!

BU is to be commended on sticking to the civic activism facilitation job.

But, understandably so, 12 years is a long time to be impartial!

Mr Hal Austin makes the point about the Blogmaster separating out an “administrative impartial role” for his substantive role of Blogmaster from his personal commentary.

And, while we understand in theory what that means, in practice, it CANNOT HAPPEN, because there are multiple Blogmasters

So we forgive the Honourable Blogmaster but we castigate the multiple personalities that constitute Mariposa and ManyPussy aka AC.

While some regulars have left, or comment lest frequently MORE PEOPLE HAVE COME!

The thing is to teach individuals how to be constant in your remarks which are designed to pressure these so called MPs led by Mugabe to do what we elected them to do.

By social pressure, exposure of their thievery, and by the power of the ballot.

Not withstanding Teifing like Granger in Guyana

Good news to catch two criminals who are part of the home invasion and robbery personnel on the lose.

Bad news cause while dese two men get catch in 2 weeks, for a crime against a white man, similar crimes against black citizens persist without similar resolution in sight.

But then again, white people needs are more important than those of blacks

Just ask Scott Weatherhead about that

Now, quietly, the justices who are stated to try these men should have decided to give each one, and any future ones, 25 years!

You are unable to clarify your position?

A tanking stock exchange will negatively affect economies as it did in 2007. Power dollars will dry up, financial decisions will be affected etc. There is nothing incorrect about what was posted. Unless you can counter with something concrete.

  50. David

Nothing to clarify. I generally agree with what you said

Is it the stock exchange that affect the economy or the economy that affect the stock exchange ( chicken or egg)?
