Barbados recorded its first homicide for 2026 on January 9. The incident was shooting related and took place at Worthing Beach, Christ Church.
To put this in context, I reviewed January homicide counts from 2014 to 2025 using the Barbados Homicide Database. The chart above shows the number of homicides recorded each January, including years with zero incidents:

“Context” would have compared, contracted, a number of “Januaries”
The “context” of the other months of the recent year takes the data chain into a totally different direction.
The usefulness of such an enquiry requires seeing this January in the “context” of similar time periods.
January 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022 ………
