The story unfolding in the USA where children of undocumented immigrants are being separated from their parents continues to choke global newsfeeds. There is not much the blogmaster can say except that children are innocent. The question seems to be whether lawmakers need to amend an existing law which is being enforced by the authorities or whether President Trump should use the power given him to exert an executive prerogative.

The BU household hopes that the leadership in the US will resolve the matter soon!

    THIS IS WHAT IS FACING THE DONALD DAY IN AND DAY OUT

    ABC News reported on their chyron that Paul Manafort pled guilty to 5 charges of manslaughter. Something that, as far as we know, Manafort isn’t even being investigated for. This well-timed ‘malfunction’ took place below footage of President Trump In an ABC live news report.

    Just one problem, it’s total bull. Or more politely put by The Daily Wire, it’s that it’s simply untrue. How exactly the network screwed up on something so specific is hard to say — in fact, ABC in its apology didn’t even try to explain it, saying instead that it’s still “investigating” how the bizarre mixup happened.

    After receiving several nasty tweets from social media activists, President Trump responded:

    It’s damaged done, though. Hardly anyone circles back to check the full story anymore. Worse, some just read the headlines and go with it. As seen below in the ‘classy’ tweets of one, Ryan Hill. Mr. Hill is currently running for Michigan’s 13th U.S. Congressional District in Detroit.

    Hill saw ABC’s ‘malfunction’ and ran with it without looking at the retraction, AND TWEETED:

    President Trump didn’t take Mr. Hill’s misinformed slander and fired back. It isn’t clear if the Democrat even read the President’s response but we did! Take a look:

    ICE has been cracking down on businesses who employ illegals lately. A recent investigation by ICE led to the arrest of over 140 illegals at a business in Ohio.

    According to The Daily Mail:
    More than 140 workers were arrested at an Ohio meatpacking plant by federal agents following a yearlong immigration investigation.

    The investigation focused on whether the company knowingly hired people who are in the country illegally and used fake identities belonging to U.S. citizens to get their jobs, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.

    The arrests Tuesday come as the U.S. government steps up its focus on businesses that hire people in the country illegally as part of a broad range of immigration crackdowns under Republican President Donald Trump.

    The 146 arrests in one of the largest workplace immigration raids in recent years happened at Fresh Mark’s meat processing plant in Salem, in northeastern Ohio. Immigration agents and local authorities also carried out search warrants at the company’s two other locations in Massillon and its plant in Canton.

    Charges have not been filed against the company. Something that seems to be a pattern in the recent crackdowns. It could be due to the illegals using forged documents. ICE stated the investigation is ongoing.

    Central American migrants – particularly unaccompanied minors – are again crossing the U.S.-Mexico boundary in large numbers.

    In 2014, more than 68,000 unaccompanied Central American children were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico boundary. This year so far there have been close to 60,000.

    The mainstream narrative often reduces the causes of migration to factors unfolding in migrants’ home countries. In reality, migration is often a manifestation of a profoundly unequal and exploitative relationship between migrant-sending countries and countries of destination. Understanding this is vital to making immigration policy more effective and ethical.

    Through my research on immigration and border policing, I have learned a lot about these dynamics. One example involves relations between Honduras and the United States.

    U.S. roots of Honduran emigration
    I first visited Honduras in 1987 to do research. As I walked around the city of Comayagua, many thought that I, a white male with short hair in his early 20’s, was a U.S. soldier. This was because hundreds of U.S. soldiers were stationed at the nearby Palmerola Air Base at the time. Until shortly before my arrival, many of them would frequent Comayagua, particularly its “red zone” of female sex workers.

    U.S. military presence in Honduras and the roots of Honduran migration to the United States are closely linked. It began in the late 1890s, when U.S.-based banana companies first became active there. As historian Walter LaFeber writes in “Inevitable Revolutions: The United States in Central America,” American companies “built railroads, established their own banking systems, and bribed government officials at a dizzying pace.” As a result, the Caribbean coast “became a foreign-controlled enclave that systematically swung the whole of Honduras into a one-crop economy whose wealth was carried off to New Orleans, New York, and later Boston.”

    By 1914, U.S. banana interests owned almost 1 million acres of Honduras’ best land. These holdings grew through the 1920s to such an extent that, as LaFeber asserts, Honduran peasants “had no hope of access to their nation’s good soil.” Over a few decades, U.S. capital also came to dominate the country’s banking and mining sectors, a process facilitated by the weak state of Honduras’ domestic business sector. This was coupled with direct U.S. political and military interventions to protect U.S. interests in 1907 and 1911.

    Such developments made Honduras’ ruling class dependent on Washington for support. A central component of this ruling class was and remains the Honduran military. By the mid-1960s it had become, in LaFeber’s words, the country’s “most developed political institution,” – one that Washington played a key role in shaping.

    The Reagan era

    This was especially the case during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. At that time, U.S. political and military policy was so influential that many referred to the Central American country as the “U.S.S. Honduras” and the Pentagon Republic.

    As part of its effort to overthrow the Sandinista government in neighboring Nicaragua and “roll back” the region’s leftist movements, the Reagan administration “temporarily” stationed several hundred U.S. soldiers in Honduras. Moreover, it trained and sustained Nicaragua’s “contra” rebels on Honduran soil, while greatly increasing military aid and arm sales to the country.

    The Reagan years also saw the construction of numerous joint Honduran-U.S. military bases and installations. Such moves greatly strengthened the militarization of Honduran society. In turn, political repression rose. There was a dramatic increase in the number of political assassinations, “disappearances” and illegal detentions.

    The Reagan administration also played a big role in restructuring the Honduran economy. It did so by strongly pushing for internal economic reforms, with a focus on exporting manufactured goods. It also helped deregulate and destabilize the global coffee trade, upon which Honduras heavily depended. These changes made Honduras more amenable to the interests of global capital. They disrupted traditional forms of agriculture and undermined an already weak social safety net.

    These decades of U.S. involvement in Honduras set the stage for Honduran emigration to the United States, which began to markedly increase in the 1990s.

    In the post-Reagan era, Honduras remained a country scarred by a heavy-handed military, significant human rights abuses and pervasive poverty. Still, liberalizing tendencies of successive governments and grassroots pressure provided openings for democratic forces.

    They contributed, for example, to the election of Manuel Zelaya, a liberal reformist, as president in 2006. He led on progressive measures such as raising the minimum wage. He also tried to organize a plebiscite to allow for a constituent assembly to replace the country’s constitution, which had been written during a military government. However, these efforts incurred the ire of the country’s oligarchy, leading to his overthrow by the military in June 2009.

    Post-coup Honduras
    The 2009 coup, more than any other development, explains the increase in Honduran migration across the southern U.S. border in the last few years.     Although its once sky-high murder rate has declined, the continuing exodus of many youth demonstrates that violent gangs still plague urban neighborhoods.

    Meanwhile, post-coup governments have intensified an increasingly unregulated, “free market” form of capitalism that makes life unworkable for many. Government spending on health and education, for example, has declined in Honduras. Meanwhile, the country’s poverty rate has risen markedly. These contribute to the growing pressures that push many people to migrate.

    While the next U.S. president will deliberate about what to do about unwanted immigration from “south of the border,” this history provides lessons as to the roots of migration. It also raises ethical questions as to the responsibility of the United States toward those now fleeing from the ravages U.S. policy has helped to produce.”

    By now most Americans, for or against, get the idea. All an individual or family need do to live in America, and off the avails of the American taxpayer, is to arrive at an approved port of entry and “lodge a legal claim to stay.”

    The law-abiding pay.

    The profits from the immigration industry, material and political, are privatized; the costs are socialized.

    It has taken a president, in the person of Donald J. Trump, and his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, to expose for all to see a shameful, likely irreversible, fact: American birthright has been frittered away for a mess of pottage.

    In exchange for throwing America open to The World, Americans get crime, poverty, unemployment, depressed wages; environmental despoliation; overburdened public services, and zero comity and harmony across their communities.Into the Cannibal’s Pot

    Or, more like hate. For to oppose this transformative political give-away is to be branded a hater and be hounded, at home, by a Fifth Column of values-enforcers.

    These treacherous “elites vie to see who can reach the greatest heights of rhetorical excess and self-righteous posturing,” spat Tucker in disgust.

    His philippic was over a sickeningly sanctimonious press, convulsing over kids detained at the border, in accordance with US law, to which the whole thing is an event, a happening. Mere mortals, like Trump’s Deplorables, must look up to—and learn from—these avatars of morality.

    To cap it all, in Trump translation: We have the crappiest, most liberal immigration laws.

    Before the border setback, White House officials had been “drafting a package which would, among other things, make it easier to deport children who arrive alone at the border.”

    As had ICE agents increased their presence at courthouses, vowing to use courthouse arrests for “specific, targeted aliens” with criminal records, gang affiliations or removal orders, or who pose national security threats.

    But now it’s, “The kids, the kids”: Members of the chattering class, the noise makers, have been tripping over one another to prove each one of them is on the side of the angels.

    Magnificently did Tom Homan, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, stand up to the sniveling, manipulative media with facts about the law and the right of national sovereignty.

    And, what do you know? They, in the person of the Wolf Blitzer prototype, crumbled, apologetically. Alas, flabby, lickspittle Republicans are too dumb and devious to have figured out that a backbone, and fidelity to just law, frightens Democrats more than anything.

    To the horror of one CNN practitioner of yellow journalism—sensational, sentimental, never impartial—the removal of kids into the care of the more responsible adult cohort was working.

    From Honduras came a CNN report that at least one Honduran parent of sound judgment would not be embarking on the journey to the US. A net-positive, however, was framed as a negative by the network’s activists-cum-reporters.“The

    Henpecked at home, from within the White House, President Trump has begun to relent on zero-tolerance at the Southern border and has issued an enabling executive order. Enabling because bad parents will continue to deploy children as human shields to gain entry into the US.

    Yes, it’s unfortunate that children are born into disorganized, chaotic families. But a child is either the responsibility of his parents or of the state.

    The judicial trend of the state as parens patriae has seen the family usurped by the state as the primary socialization agent. The state-as-parent is the purview of progressives, not conservatives.

    Parents who put kids is such precarious a predicament are unfit. Why, then, are unfit parents fit to become Americans?

    As I pointed out to the Canadian lawson yesterday Canada has a population density of 1 person per square mile; Barbados has 1704; the United States has 93.

    If Barbados had a population density of between 1 and 92 per square mile of course we would be happy to take in Central American migrants, as we have taken in economic migrants from St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Guyana and Trinidad. As we took in environmental migrants from Montserrat when the Soufrière Hills volcano erupted in 1995. Three were my neighbours. Lovely ladies. Decent.. Hard working. A credit to Montserrat and to Barbados.

    And you know very well that having any one family take in 100 new people will not work in Barbados as it will not work in the United States. But nobody is asking Americans to expand their family sizes to 100+ people.

    But you know as well as I do that a child should not be removed from its parents unless a good quality foster home is available to nurture that child.

    To remove children and warehouse them: BAD.

    And yes some of us have been good quality foster parents both here and in the great white north.

    You should try being a foster parent. You are smart, wealthy, healthy, have little to do except watch cricket…why don’t you a good Christian open your door.

In 2014, back when Barack Obama was president, numbers of migrant children making the illegal border crossing were surging. They were likely emboldened to come because the Democrats’ were broadcasting both an open borders policy and mercy for those breaking our immigration laws.

    Children who crossed the border illegally, whether they were with a parent or not, were kept in housing facilities to wait until they got their day in court. At the time, no one in the liberal media said a word. They were more preoccupied with reporting on Obama’s latest trip to Hawaii or Michelle Obama’s workout routine.

    But now that Trump is in office, liberals in both the government and the media are pretending to care about this problem, if only as an excuse to bring down the President. Now that both the Russia collusion story and the Stormy Daniels saga aren’t playing out, the Left has to come up with a new strategy.

    But Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas recently went on CNN to call out the media and his fellow Democrats in Congress for not doing more to address this issue four years ago.

    “During the CNN interview, Cuellar stated that the plight of illegal immigrant children was, “kept quiet under the Obama administration.”

    He stated that in 2014, “There were large numbers of people coming in and the Obama administration tried to keep this quiet.” He went on to say that not all of those children were being separated from their parents because many of the migrant children were coming by themselves. Cuellar then explained the reasoning behind separating children from the adults accompanying them. He said it’s to ensure that the children are really with their legal guardian and not drug or s*x traffickers.

    Cuellar’s honesty turns the whole liberal narrative on its head and proves decisively that the real culprit behind the illegal immigrant crisis is Obama himself. Even Feinstein admitted to Jake Tapper that she didn’t bother learning about the child migrant problem while Obama was president, but she still wants to criticize Trump for following the same policies the Obama administration carried out for 8 years.

    It’s interesting how the media timed the release of this story to coincide with the president’s historic progress on denuclearizing North Korea. No doubt the liberal media wanted Trump’s North Korea summit to fail so that it would give them more ammo to use against him.
