Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley (l) Owen Arthur MP (r)
Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley (r) Owen Arthur M.P (l)

BU has been advised the reason former Prime Minister Owen Arthur resigned from the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is because the executive was about to expel him from the party. Before the matter could be heard he quit. To be frank if this is true, and BU is doublechecking, Arthur took the right decision. The embarrassment of a former prime minister of fourteen years standing effectively being fired from the party would have been a big blow to the party for a man who has represented himself as a ‘red’ for forty years. It is unfathomable Mia Mottley had any influence in the politics of removing Arthur, if she had, some may describe it as bold politics, others incredibly stupid.

What does the future holds?

The Arthur faction is still embedded in the BLP parliamentary group, Symmonds, Payne, Marshall and there is Mascoll on the inside. This may be the first of other resignation to follow. The possibilities are endless what may result from the dysfunctional politics being played out in Barbados in both political parties. The next hurdle for Mia Mottley will be how the legal matter between two MPs on her side plays out. What the implosion of the BLP spells is that it gives wriggle room for the Stuart led government to meander on their merry way seemingly unaware of how to resolve the mounting challenges facing the country.

    This question is a difficult one to answer. When deciding how many social networks to join, it ultimately comes down to the candidate’s appeal and the campaign’s resources.

    The number one rule is to not have any social media presence become a “ghost town,” meaning don’t join networks that you don’t have the available resources to update or be active in. It reflects horribly on a campaign to have a vacuous social network profile – a rarely update presence makes it appear that the campaign doesn’t value that network and its demographic while also suggesting that the campaign is more of a spammer than general conversation constructer.

    While the first rule is to not overextend yourself into too many networks, that doesn’t excuse any candidate from not having a presence on at least a few of the top networks. We believe it’s absolutely necessary to have presences on at least: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr.

    Carol Martindale the Sunday Sun editor and Peter Wickham are both Mottley buddies. They seem to find it difficult to write or highlight anything that portrays Mottley in a negative way.

    The same media which lambasted David Thompson non stop when Clyde Mascoll jumped ship including Albert Brandford have all now gone silent after Owen Arthur told the world that Mia Mottley is more about promoting herself than anything else.

    Will someone with integrity at the Nation newspaper pleas stand up?

    @Artaxerxes
    Mottley’s responses to Arthur’s actions, so far, have not been filled with hostility

    Having vanquished her opponent for the “mythical” soul of the Party, it is dishonourable to rub salt in the wound by dancing a jig on his grave.”

    so far, and PRIOR

    Well Well, the Editorial in Barbados Today(August 20) is calling out the Nation newspaper on its shabby reporting on the front page of the Sunday Sun of Aug 17, 2014 when the Nation journalist suggests that the entire constituency is condemning Owen Arthur.
    http://epaper.barbadostoday.bb/

    This is what is happening here : Carol Martindale, the Nation Sunday editor is a Mottley lackey and the BLP leadership has decided that every attempt is to be made in the Nation’s reporting to discredit Owen Arthur. Therefore it was not surprising that the Nation newspaper would go into a shop in St. Peter, interview 4 or 5 people and then draw a conclusion about how the voters of St. Peter feel about Owen Arthur. That is a journalistic stretch and a political ,journalistic attack on Arthur sanctioned by the opposition leader.

    The Nation Sunday Sun front page was a hit job on Owen Arthur with the full support of Mottley.
    I keep on telling Barbados that the Nation newspaper is running a political rag first and a newspaper second.
