Finally, after many years of trying, Barbados’ tourism product will have the Sandals brand attached to it. Not just one but two properties; Sandals Couples at Casuarina and soon to come, Sandals Beaches at Heywoods. This year at the World Travel Awards’ 20th Caribbean and North American Gala, Sandals Resorts International won for the 20th consecutive time the title of the “Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand.” Imagine the benefits that the Barbados tourism product will derive from having the Sandals brand marketing and selling Barbados.
Internationally, the news of the opening of Sandals Couples at Casuarina and the planned opening of Sandals Beaches have not gone unnoticed but it is creating a positive stir in the travel markets. In fact, it is projected that the country will benefit from increased airlift from the UK with the opening of Sandals in Barbados. A check of the website for Sandals resorts Barbados would reveal that since accepting its first guest on November 6, 2013 the 280 room hotel is fully booked up to March 2014. This indeed is positive news for Barbados. There are also plans to quickly increase the number of restaurants at the hotel from 3 to possibly 9. Do I hear, “employment opportunities”?
This is certainly a sign that something positive is happening in Barbados. Our tourism industry has just been given a tremendous jolt that would no doubt result in growth in the sector.

WAITING, not even Barbados is immune from crime. You are so busy reading up on crime in St.Lucia that you are missing out on what’s going on right under your nose in Barbados. Here is an example:
Public Relations Officer Inspector David Welch said Vincent McClean Marshall, 60, reportedly stabbed his 50-year-old fiancée, Judy Brathwaite, both of Woodstock Road, and her friend Maureen Callender Harris before drinking a poisonous substance.
The incident occurred around 7 o’clock on Wednesday night.

To be quiet honest, Murder is a problem for us all. Everyone is distressed with the wanton taking of human life and we all hope and pray that the security forces are able to capture the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

I used to love watching O J Simpson, as a runner then in the movies There was a lot of white runners but I liked him and Dorset not because of color it was because of talent. I still would like him today if he hadn’t thought he was living in Whitechapel. What we should do is someone put forward a simple idea and if we all agree on it we could expand the ideas to a point where if we are all united we could actually achieve something….I will start off…..I think AC and CCC are the same person

In 1992 Butch Stewart did it the old fashioned way, snapped up properties at fire sale prices, presumably with his own money.
In 2013 he went one better; with gun to the heads of Stuart, Sealy and Sinkler et al he bullied them into agreeing to build a resort for him to operate, using the next generation of Barbados taxpayers’ money, as they will be the taxpayers on the hook to pay the China loan.

Gangsters raid Castries residence, rob occupants of 50 cents, laptops, jewelry

Four males brandishing a shotgun and cutlass raided a New Village, Castries residence last night, Nov. 16 about 9:30 and robbed the occupants, including children.
The gangsters fired a shot at the victims as they fled.
No one was injured but two children, no older than nine years old, were left traumatized.
According to a resident, 50 cents was taken from one of the children.
“His mother said he peed on him and the other brother eased his bowels. He had to hold his poop in his hands,” a resident said.
Two government-issued laptops, along with an undisclosed amount of money, cell phones and jewelry were taken by the robbers.
“Everyone who was outside in the yard got robbed and when they were done they fired a shot in the people’s direction,” a resident said. “It hurts. It’s like I am seeing my child at that age going through that. Those guys are too serious.”
According to residents, three of the robbers partially covered their faces with rags. The other was unmasked.
No one has been arrested.

I do not profess to know a whole lot of Paradise Beach Hotel.The period I make reference to is the late 40’s.I think it was called the Paradise Beach Club at that time.There was Powell Spring Hotel at Bathsheba,Crane Hotel at St Philip,the Marine and Ocean View,The Royal in CH CH. I am sure Paradise was among the ‘birthers’ of Barbados Tourism and we all lament its destruction and still birth in a resurrected 4 Seasons DNA.
Interesting! Despite showing full on their website until 14th March 2014, still rooms available including over Christmas 2013 from US$438 per ROOM all-inclusive.

CCC was earlier bragging that Sandals is fully booked through March 2014. I keyed in random dates in November, December, January, February and March and rooms were available.
Therefore, dismiss everything this yardfowl post as a joke. If a BLP administration had ever got into a deal like this, he and his fellow Dems would be on BU doing the “dog”.
It is funny that he and Dems dont like the white man but they liked their money at election time this year! They like white people when they could use them to bring in the free stuff they used to buy the election! No wonder the white man has since complained that what he was promised, the government did not deliver.

When the BLP wins the next elections we can expect them to give all the other “surviving” hotels the same concessions that the DLP just gave to Sandals.

No entirely so. But you must admit that except for the Bible most Barbadians (despite their boast of being highly educated, aka ‘book-learnt’) have little appreciation for literature and art.
A bookshelf is not an important piece of furniture in their homes. Maybe a picture of Jesus or photo of some famous politician is the proud piece in their artistic collection.

In his recent Ministerial Statement on the Sandals deals the MOT said “It is expected that these two properties will contribute annually in net terms…………………. will protect the airlift into Barbados and reduce the millions spent by Government to the airlines now flying into Barbados.”
So, Government pays the airlines to fly people to Barbados; and now it pays Sandals to use its “marketing might” to promote and manage a $500 million resort property owned by Government.
Does anybody have any details of the how many millions is spent by Government to support (concessions or incentives) the airlines?
Do they get a flat annual subsidy, or per flight subsidy, or per seat subsidy, or a subsidy for empty seats

Carson…….i agree with much of what you said, but the leaders are charged, both DLP/BLP, with making sure in a black majority country that THEIR OWN people are NOT the ones being consistently disenfranchised, there is absolutely no reason for blacks to feel like they do not belong in Barbados or that they are not entitled to become wealthy in a BLACK MAJORITY COUNTRY…..i cannot reiterate this enough. If the leaders can see beyond their OWN DISDAIN for THEIR OWN BLACK PEOPLE and allow them to spread their wings, stop accommodating the minorities in their decades old beliefs that they are entitled to own all the businesses and wealth on the island, we will see a vast improvement and you will no longer have to complain…..when the minorities cannot get their way, the quickest thing out of their mouth is blacks are racist against them, time to tell them suck it up, the time is long past when they should be allowed to continue to ride the backs of the majority on their way to wealth, or be continually sucking at the teats of the taxpayers, not one black person in Barbados owes this group of minorities anything, time for blacks to get off their asses and control their own country, their destinies and that of their future generations.
