Johan Bjerkhamn

On behalf of the BU household we express our deep sadness at the unfortunate death of 11 year old Luke Bjerkhamn. Luke  was allegedly shot by his father Johan Bjerkhamn a couple weeks ago at his father’s residence. This is a matter which BU has been reluctant to offer public comment in deference to the the grieving family. However, in light of the recent development that Johan Bjerkhamn evaded police questioning by waltzing out of Barbados on a private jet yesterday, we have been driven to comment on the matter.

Firstly, there is the erroneous position which has been propagated by the traditional media that Johan  Bjerkhamn has been under 24-hour police guard at the Bayview Hospital. Our source indicates it was his doctor who played a pivotal role to keep the police from questioning Johan  Bjerkhamn. It has been said that his doctor kept him heavily sedated. Keeping him in a drowsy state the doctor was able to feed the Police the story that Bjerkhamn was not medically fit to give a statement. Why the Royal Barbados Police Force would leave  Johan  Bjerkhamn unguarded at Bayview Hospital is highly questionable.

The breakdown in communication between Commissioner Dottin and his Deputy over the recent Movada Kartel Show merits probing questions about Dottin’s competence to manage the Police Force. We suggest had the alleged perpetrator of this incident been Black the statement would have been taken and the charge laid in quick time.

Interestingly, it is Sir Richard Cheltenham who is at the forefront of this matter. Didn’t he successfully keep Jippy Doyle out of prison for almost seven years? It was reported by the media that Sir Richard accompanied Johan Bjerkhamn to the private hangar at the Grantley Adams Airport yesterday. Again, isn’t it amazing that in a very high profile Police matter we are witnessing such a  high level of incompetence by our Police Force?

We are left to speculate about what happened two weeks ago at the house of Johan Bjerkhamn. What we do know from our source is that the recent incident of gun play is not the first to have been heard by neighbours. There is the unconfirmed report that Luke was the victim of a family squabble. The question now remains, will the Royal Barbados Police Force ever get the opportunity to interrogate Jonan Bjerkhamn.

An upset BU commenter posted the following comment on the matter:

Now I shifting from BFS to Barbadians in general. I am writing this article as a chance to vent before I BLEVE . Them corrupt, nasty sorcerers who are in charge of law and security in this country , Responded to a suspicious call about a rasta man ‘in quick time’ resulting in him ending up over a cliff on sharp rocks to die some moments later.

This same security dept. took a subtle and ‘hands off’, luke warm approach to deal with a shooting death of a little boy. Questions I must ask myself,What if Mr. Bjerkhamn was driving the crash tender and his service number was 109, would he he be dragged violently from behind the steering wheel by police?

Would Mr Bjerkhamn be treated with the same ROYALTY if he was a black rasta whose son was shot? Why was he discharged and the police not notified by the hospital pending an investigation? Who gave the order to withdraw police presence creating that window of opportunity? Why is it that someone from the  health care profession not wearing HMP silver bangles? And the list goes on. My conclusion is that commissioner Dottin is a Mock face , hard face ass and he need to be removed from office like yesterday.

The white people in this country are more powerful than Castro is in Cuba. We have two laws in this country, the extreme one which serves the blacks and not so fortunate and the other customized “we would make up as we go along one” which serves the whites and people from higher echelons. Where are the Hamas and Hezbollah when you really need them?

    I did not shoot Luke.

    I’ve never owned a gun.

I would not be idiotic enough to keep 40 guns in the same house as my children. Anybody who does so is an idiot. And it does not matter if they are white or black, they are still an idiot.

I agree with the blogger who said if need be put in ( protective custody) escort him to the USA let him have the surgery then return with him.
I also have to wonder if what wishing in vain said rings true !
What anyone can gather is that a letter was sent to the commisioner of police.
Explaining mapping out the movements of Mr Bjerkman.
He goes through airport scurity with no problems.
    Even accompanied by lawyers.

He is extremely distraught over the loss of his beloved only son.
Now we have scums of the earth parasatic people like J who everyone knows is kim inciting racist remarks her envy transparent as she is.
But to accuse him of drug use only because he has poor teeth which she is no dentist, doctor, health expert or qualified to make such assumptions.
We are trying to have a healthy debate and all she brings is her nonesense to the blogs her turmoil hatred for whites is so obvious even Stevie Wonder can see this.
Let’s not make the death of a child into a racial issue.
Bjorn his father has money he is a self made millionare and should we chastiize , castigrate, and criticize him for this? He lost a grandson that he loved as well. Shouldn’t he try to save his sons hand which it looks like it may not be saved.
There is no jail sentence that can be worse than the realization he accidentally shot his son.
I saw the pictures ( papers ) I see a man beside himself with greif.

Dear David: We won’t see Johan back today.

And what reputations are you talking about? You mean the reputations of the same people who told the police that he was going to leave for Florida at 3:30 p.m. and then he left at12:45 p.m because “the plane came early”

David man, you are a man of the world. If a woman promised you a piece and asked you to come to her home at 3:30 and you arrived at 3:30 on the dot to hear that she left Barbados at 12:45 would you not understand that she had given you a big rock?

Back to matters at hand as I do apolgize for my un lady like behavoir of most recent.
PLEASE everyone do not make this a race issue or a wealth issue.
Let us wait for more facts to come in before we have a better understanding of the issues at play.
Of course everyone is upset a child is dead.
I do agree 40 guns was a bit much but he is after all a gun dealer . Not my cup of tea I personally fear that usually guns hurt innocent people given this case Yes indeed this rings true
I do not like Guns period and especially around children.
But ok let me be devils advocate he probably cleaned guns many times in front of his child and this time unfortunately he was careless he practically blew his hand off and did ( ACCIDENTALLY kill his son) no judge and jury on Earth could be more harsh on Johan than how Johan will carry a life time of guilt, I can’t imagine his hurt or pain nor would I want to,
He spent his life protecting his child and in a freak accident his child is taken ….He didn’t kill his child with intent this wasn’t an act of premeditation

Chris halsall you are an awful human being.
In the USA there have been incidents where parents have accidentally left their child in the car and the temperature was very high ( the unfathomable happened) These parents often are not persecuted or prosecuted they have to live the hell of knowing they ( accidentally and unintentionally killed their children

  9. @ Yardbroom,

As usual, balanced and considered view. However, two things that you may consider.

    – the doctor’s will know the effect of the drugs, whether they are for physical or mental pain relief, I suspect more mental. As such, any statement given, will most likely be inadmissable, under such circumstances, or at least, jury will be directed to ignore, this is a crucial point

    – you refer to the assumed point on manslaughter. My question is, without knowing the full facts i.e. without the subsequent statement (not under the effects of drugs) and full forensics results (we all know that forensics here takes time), how on earth could the DPP (as the COP said he did), recommend a charge of manslaughter, particularly in so little time? The statement and forensics form a critical part of the investigation and understanding. They will also confirm the manslaughter theory or accident.

Others must have seen this point, not just I? There is no way that this was properly considered, none.

Finally, some of you need to learn the word compassion, some of the vile, yet alone ridiculous comments here are plain moronic.

It is evident that personal or family hatred has biased some of the comments, pretty sad really.

I do not know the Bjerkham’s, never even talked to one in business, have neither sway for or against, but can see things without personal bias or misguided hatred.

Accidents do happen, no matter how one sees the circumstances.

As for that teeth nonsense, only a complete jackass would bring that up.

Some of you need to get a life, really.

    Have a good day.

  10. God does what he wants and we don’t know why until it is revealed to us.
I don’t think that people should say it is an accident or purpose work until all the facts come out.

But some accidents should be punished as well, no one should walk away from a gun related death unless it is clear that that person acted for the protection of another life.

Persons of the law like to tell you “ignorance is no excuse of the law” i ask is negligence of proper safety procedures? I Have heard of cases where people have been arrested for not taking the correct procedures, is it morally right to arrest a person for death by gun related accident like the many that have been arrested for reckless driving related death?

Does cleaning a gun have certain procedures? Accidental or not people need some jail time to think about what they cause when they are careless.

In Barbados it is basic common thinking that all Rastafarian men smoke weed. So If a guy has a similar mouth condition to what is commonly referred to as meth mouth i assume anyone can and should point that out, it may or may not be true, but the point is noted.

I want to express my sympathy for the members of the family that lost their young one and to the members of the family of the guy that was accidentally shot in the van stand by a police gun, those are the only two presumably accidental ‘legal gun’ related deaths i have herd of.

  11. What should been of most importance to John is his reputation, It is obvious that his hand is of more importance. If this man had shot your child the people who are defending him would be singing a different tune about his refusal to talk with police.

  12. I am not seeing any bad teeth in that picture. What am I missing? You guys have X-ray glasses?

  13. “First of all he may lose his hand he stayed in barbados to attend his son Lukes funeral.”

Is the first part of your sentence correct?. Lose what hand what? Joke.

  14. Let us forget the law for a moment.

An 11 year old boy was killed and the only person present was his father.

The father was allowed to waltz out of Barbados without the knowledge of Police we are told.

    Does this make sense?

Sometimes we get so technical we forget there is the commonsense approach.

If we need to change our laws to permit commonsense, so be it.

What kind of disguisting human being is suggesting that johan offs himself ? There have been cases of accidental shootings / parents accidentally leaving a children in cars when the heat index was high and children sadly suffocated to death .Just the mere image of that playing in ones mind for the rest of ones life is worse than any judgement , prison sentence the courts can apply to them.
They are living in an eternal prison though we can’t see these parents behind bars as many are so quick to want to see this for what reasons I can’t fathom or understand.
They are inprisoned with pain. Did anyone not see the picture of utter shock sadness of Johan at his sons funeral.
The family wanted him to fly out earlier to get surgery for his hand in the USA but he was in fear he would miss his sons funeral by waiting to long he may very likely lose his hand , not only has he lost his son now he could have his hand amputated?
What a hell this man is in and many people here want to say he has bad teeth and come to some kind of outlandish conclusion that he has * Meth Mouth* for what purpose . if the police think he had ( Meth , other illegal substances in his blood at time of shooting they can simply get a court order for blood samples.
If a man was a alcoholic drug addict in the past what bearing does this have in the now, Which I have never ever heard that until ( Kim young ) AKA pointed this out for us,. But does she know people say her and Ezra Alleyne were on crack themselves does she want to tell us why her bf was at one time disbarred how it is he was not put in jail? When everyone in Bim knows he tiefed clients money….
With some of the cases where accidental deaths have occurred as a result stateside some prosecuters have decided to not prosecute are give a lesser charge which would not carry a sentence.
Trust me the man has been sentenced to a life time of hell on Earth.
I only hope that this teaches many the dangers of guns sadly usually guns kill more innocent people than they ever kill criminals. When we learn the serious dangers of firearms.

I am sure that Pyshcriatists will testify that he was too distraught to speak of what has happened. I am sure that much of what was in the affadavit was written worded by his family , lawyers and some from himself,
I would be incoeherent if that was my child.
I have personally known people who have lost children and became suicidal over this. Johan will never ever be the same he will most likely be a shell of the human being he once was in life.

As for many crying that he is getting better treatment
If he was someone without his wealth this story would not be making headlines or nor would everyone be buzzing about the story.
So his wealth does have a hinderence there is a draw back to this.
I would hope that the DPP and or prosecuters rather this was a poor, man rich man begger man or thief allow some respect for the man to have hand surgery this is sad that while this country was getting rich off foriegn investors real estate that the QEH hospital is in shambles.
This hospital needs to be rebuilt and many surgeries should be able to be performed here so Johan could have stayed here and avoided all the finger pointing , tongue lashings

  18. I am wondering at some of the tactics of the Bjerkjamn team ( Lawyers and family). Where there was a need for cooperation by Bjerkhamn after the incident his lawyers (led by Cheltenham) sounded off on the Police when they tried to interview him. Using words like “terrorist” tactics was not helpful to the situation. They seemed to be stonewalling when in effect they should be saying “our client is eager to talk to you as soon as possible and he will be available at etc.”

    @David

What makes you think that the Police were unaware that Bjerkhamn was leaving the island? Whether there were informed or not Barbados is a small place and news get around fast. A simple call to deny clearance to the aircraft would have grounded his flight.

This case has been monitored at the highest levels from the beginning and sometimes those in authority wait to see which direction the parade is travelling in before jumping in front to lead it.

BIG PROBLEMO I have the Commisioner of Police was notifed that ( Johan intended to leave Friday It doesn’t take a Genius Mensa IQ or is it rocket science.
If you are the commisioner of police you get notified that someone you may lay charges against has told you they are leaving for the USA then you A. Ask for their passport to be surrendered immediately.
B,Notify the Airport Immigration customs dept.
That this person is to not fly put them on a ban no fly list
    C. Have the aiport police detain him for questioning before you decided rather he can fly or not fly/

There is a reasonable explanation of why the plane took off earlier.
They may have chartered the plane at rates that are in the thousands per hour . The plane being grounded they could have been charged thousands per hour or had to pay private pilots extra fees even rich people don’t like to lose money either esp in a recession. Geez
Plus the commisioner of police was notified Friday
This was Monday mid day. Lets see Friday , Saturday, Sunday and now it’s monday.

  20. @Inmypj’sblogger

You obviously know nothing about airport rates for aircraft… and with one or two passengers, the rates are pocket change.

  22. Dear inmypj’s blogger you wrote “there have been incidents where parents have accidentally left their child in the car and the temperature was very high ( the unfathomable happened)”

    This is a LIE.

Parents who leave their children in a closed car in high temperatures which cause the death of the child are ALWAYS prosecuted. And they ALWAYS serve jail time. Because anyody with any sense at all realizes that to leave a child in a closed hot car is an act of GROSS NEGLIGENCE, and not an accident.

Man I even read of a case where a man left a DOG in a closed car and he was prosecuted, eventhough the dog did not die, but was heat stressed and required medical treatment. Because in truth no human being should do that to a dog, and certainly nobody with any sense at all would do it to a child.

A father’s tragic mistake was negligent but not criminal and so he won’t be charged in the July overheating death of his 2-year-old son he forgot in a parked SUV in front of their house, the city’s prosecutor has decided.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Earle Mobley said three months of police investigation uncovered no evidence that Andrew W. Culpepper knowingly left his sleeping toddler, Andrew Stephen Culpepper, strapped in a child safety seat in the back seat. That means he didn’t have the reckless intent that statutes and past court decisions demand for a manslaughter conviction, the prosecutor said Thursday.

“I just think it would be wrong to charge him, knowing what I know about the case, and what I know about the law,” Mobley said.

The state medical examiner’s office concluded that Andrew Stephen Culpepper died of accidental hyperthermia the afternoon of July 3, when outside temperatures reached at least 93 degrees

  26. inmypj’sblogger wrote “let me be devils advocate he probably cleaned guns many times in front of his child ”

If he did this that is all the more reason why he should be prosecuted. And all the more reason why he should NEVER have been a licensed dealer in the first place, and all the more reason why his gun licence should be suspended NOW and all the more reason why if he is convicted he should NEVER be permitted to touch a gun again. Not even a mock gun.

I am sure that one of the terms of being a gun dealer is that the dealer does NOT clean his guns in the presence of a child, clearly he did or so we have been told.

Has the Royal Barbados Police Force suspended Jonas’s gun dealer’s license yet?

    And if not why not?

That I do not lie as all Anonymous would have simply had to do was some simple research on a search engine to see that in many cases not ALL I didn’t ever say that some parents were not prosecuted . I personally agree with this prosecuters decision and this prosecuter is not the only one in the USA who has decided not to prosecute I may send some examples of this to Charles Leacock here for reference because this is a hard call. either way sad thing is there is a child dead and a father mother devastated.

Justice delayed (and these lawyers are very good at delaying) is justice denied (for Luke)

Where is the justice for the dead child?

  29. Inmypj'sblogger Avatar
    Inmypj’sblogger

Anoymous I agree with you. Under no circumstances should one ever clean a gun in or near a child.
I have some family members who have and own guns ( passed down from a grandfather ( collectors items)
They are under lockdown ( lock and key)
key is where a child could never get the guns are unloaded, the bullets are separated from where the guns are SAFELY stored.
I never let my children play with any children where the parents were gun owners this relative I have I know their level of responsibilty but someone who is my childs friends parents I can’t go and check their guns safety ect so I chose to say no Hon they have and own guns I do not like them personally though I am a good shooter for fun target practice.
But Exactly what has happened with Luke is why I dislike guns for my own personal and private use.

I would only like to see some good come out of this gun ( accidental death ) at worst community service for Johan where he goes into schools and speaks of the dangers of firearms.
That precious sweet child Luke didn’t die in vain.
Because the youth of Barbados is being influenced as well as the American youth many by the hollywood , rap star, rock star , reggae stars gun culture glamour.
Guns are chic , guns are glamourous GUNS kill more innocent people than the bad guys period.

Once again the police should have handled this better to not tip toe perhaps around who Johan is but it was allowed and all I am trying to say he may be misinformed and be in such utter shock after losing a child unable to speak but ok I can see the pros and cons of this case.
What is so sad is that there is a child that is dead and nothing will bring him back.
I stand affirm that I do not agree for jail time in any matter related to accidental deaths I have two children and wouldn’t be crushed if I somehow played a role by unfortunate carelessness on my part that led to the death of my child,’I am sure in many of these cases that have led to a childs death which I am prepared to give more references as I did with the Portsmith case why many prosecuters will not bring charges against the parents we know they will have a very long life sentence without inprisonment the child is sadly dead but the parents will never be the same. The mother in this I feel awful for her.
Will she feel resentment towards johan Luke after all was in his care.
The cross Johan will bare is a mighty heavy one is all I am saying!
Anonymous why do you feel the need to talk about Kim Young Strange or to divulge that your BF is a scholar what bearing that have to do with this topid.

    Bad man saying nuttin

there are over230 comments on this blog , many idiotic but Inmypjs are the only ones making all sorts of excuses for what happened. Accidentally or not Bjerkham killed his son. It was negligent and careless at least. The boy should not have been there. Why would you clean a gun with your 11 year old son there?
Why would you keep 40 guns and ostensibly run a “gun dealership” from a home where children would be present?

Now as to the Meth mouth thing brought up by J; Those are things that ANY good police investigator should consider in a homicide, accidental or not. Does the person have a history of drug or alcohol use? Are they any indications of drug or alcohol use? Could carelessness or negligence have been caused or contributed to by drug or alcohol use? These are things that any investigator has to rule out so as distasteful as it may be to some, based on her observations, J has a valid point which the cops should have considered.

The reasoning she uses is the same that any policeman would use if he encountered a suspect with fire red eyes or excessively blackened lips he would consider marijuana usage. If he observed a suspect with burnt finger tips he would consider coke pipe usage. If he observed a suspect with chronic sinus drippings , constant nose wiping and maybe nose bleed he would consider cocaine snorting. If he observed a suspect with a pitted face or scarred arms or violent mood swings he may consider rampant steroid use. if he observed a suspect fidgeting or doing the junkie walk or scratching incessantly or with rash on his arms or legs a trained policeman would consider heroin usage. Now the man may just have a bad case of dermatitis but constant or excessive drug usage causes certain conditions or behaviours. these have been studied, researched and documented and any trained or experienced officer knows these signs and is duty bound to investigate the possibility that a suspect or person of interest used or uses any mind altering substance.

So if J observed a person who bore a symptom consistent with heavy meth usage she is correct to point it out especially when there are few other explanations readily available and especially when that person has just killed their son. It might be that Johan likes to eat sweets and go to bed without brushing his teeth and he hates the dentist and so hasn’t been in 15 or 20 years.caused by a person. There may be a perfectly valid reason to which we are ignorant but nothing is wrong with J posing a logical question.

I thought you were simply implying that Johan was a met addict I do not know it its methaphine or methadone the term Met mouth is applied to and if I used methadone or metaphine it could be my ignorance when it comes to drugs and their names what does what etc.

I agree with you Bonny. What I would have done is hold the boy so he can’t get away and call the police…but not beat him up. Goodridge should have paid for that. I don’t know if he got fine, but I know he didn’t get any prison time. The problem is that we don’t always get followup information in the media on some matters.

I’ve been wondering how the situation with the girl who abandoned her new born baby on the beach in St. James turned out…can’t remember seeing a followup story after we were told that she was being sent for mental evaluation.

Since I have never tried either a methaphine or methadone drug I do not know what they would do to ones teeth
I know sugar causes bad teeth the fact he is slightly overweight makes me wonder if he had a poor diet.
RUM is sugar based cokes pet drinks are so bad SUGAR TAX products I say ,….we have wealthy and poor in BIM with some nasty teeth…If I had his money I would be with a set of porclean venures but if it don’t bother he why it bother me either or you to.?

bad man say nuttin ( there are lots of people in Bim wit bad teeth does this mean they all doing met?
Most bad teeth are from poor diets, massive sugar intake
I see a gap between his teeth tells me maybe he don’t like the dentist. Me on the otherhand I do not love the dentist but love his /her results even if it means being tortured in that chair., shots, drills….caps etc.
His teeth are no indication he is on speed as Kim has tried to imply
If his speech was abnormally fast eyes dilated sweaty palms etc.
The Police should have taken notes of this behavoir and if not they didn’t do a good thorough job.
WAS alcohol used was he sober or under any suspected mind altering drug alcohol and any of the above.
but some of the ways KY speaks she acts very racist, envious of whites or anyone with wealth. I feel she is now one in the same with Anonymous What a character she is but not clever enough to remember when she changes names she sometimes makes references to things that are a dead give away that she is not only J but also anonymous Ha

Fascinatingly, not a single one of them has chosen to say a single word about one of the biggest news stories in Barbados: a man was sentenced to prison because he hunted down an elderly tourist on a Barbados beach and BEAT HER TO DEATH in broad daylight.

The “BU family” notably failed to notice that. And not a single member of the “BU family” mentioned it. Not one.
    ===============================================================

Well you mentioned Jack…aren’t you also a member of the BU family? And now that you have mentioned it I would like to say that I’m appalled at the sentence of only 10 years for taking that woman’s life. I’m not sure if BU posted the headline here, but I spoke about it on my own little blog. The killer should have gotten no less than life in prison…and in my opinion that was a miscarriage of justice.

what I gather is that many feel the police bumbled this case up.
That many feel Johan should have been forced to answer questions in a more timely manner and by his delay to do so it is his actions that are drawing criticism
I do feel he will be back in BIM today and all soon will be with resolve.
I see the pros and I see the cons in all of this.
What if he felt he was coperating what if his legal dream team told him he should give statements when he is better adjusted to do and not under so much mental distress maybe he is following tha advice of his legal counsel and maybe that advice is not the best and adding a shadow of doubt over this case at hand.
Maybe the lawyers wanted him to save his hand than deal with the charges knowing he got treatment first Lets wait until he comes back to BIM then address matters at hand…

I AM LEFT WONDERING IF MR. HALSALL IS BIPOLAR. ON THE ONE HAND HE PURPORTS THAT HE IS ASKING FOR COMPASSION, AND ON THE OTHER HE IS INFORMING AND ADVISING MR. BJERKHAMN ON HOW HE SHOULD COMMIT SUICIDE. BEWARE…THE BIBLE SAYS YOU GET BACK SEVENFOLD. THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT ARE BEING SAID ESPECIALLY BY MR. HALSALL THAT ARE TRUE AND INTELLIGENT. HOWEVER, THIS IS DANGEROUS AS MISTRUTHS AND INACCURACIES ARE STATED WITH SUCH AUTHORITY. MR HALSALL BE CAREFUL POINTING A FINGER SAYING SOMEONE IS AN IDIOT AS THERE ARE 3 POINTING BACK AT YOU. AS FOR ALL OF THE OTHER RIDICULOUS SPECULATION…WHAT RUBBISH, MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ CRUSOE’S POST AND TAKE A LESSON IN TRUE INTELLIGENCE!

  42. @J

Well to be honest with you I can’t see his teeth that well from this picture. It just looks to me like he has two bugs bunny teeth at the front, but I wouldn’t want to speculate as to whether he uses illegal drugs or not.

  43. Dear ROK:

Judging by your white beard (and I hope nobody calls me racist here, for noting that ROK’s beard is white) you are way over 40. If you cannot see the bad teeth, then you need to go to a good eye doctor quick, quick and let him or her sort you out.

A lot of our senior policemen are way, way over 40 too. Maybe they too need a good pair of glasses.

  44. It is not the meth itself that harms the teeth. It is that meth increases the appetiteand users tend to want to satisfy the appetite quickly and what better way to satisfy the appetite quickly that by using sweet drinks, and a lot of substance abuses are so careless with themselves that they don’t bother to brush their teeth after every meal and at night, or they don’t bother to brush at all.

Atman I will comment on that case .UNBELIEVABLE only ten years for robbing and killing an elderly lady who was a visitor here well from Canada this is UNJUST this was a laugh in her familys face the man had eight prior convictions eight years for taking a life if this wer Canada or US he would get life without parole.
This is AWFUL I hope Canada blasts Barbados for this.,
This was no accident and yet many want to see Johan get life tho

  46. @David

How do you verify if someone is using their real name of not? I’m thinking that you would have to know that person personally, or know someone who knows the person. I’m only asking for information, not disputing that Chris is using his real name.

  47. @ Crusoe April 23, 2010 at 5:21am

    Hi,
The DPP makes a considered judgement on the facts presented to him. In some cases he will “never” have all the facts – and I will admit – there is more chance of a successful prosecution if he has. If he believes there is a prima facie case for a prosecution and the outcome for success is more than 50% in his favour he will prosecute..if it is in the public interest..

Crusoe, I take the point you have made…and it is a valid one “without knowing all the facts”. However, in a situation like this he has to make a judgement on what is available to him. This does not mean the accused is guilty of the offence as charged, only a jury will be able to determine that.

In essence the DPP is saying from what “I know”, based on my experience after careful consideration. I believe there is a chance of a successful prosecution.

As for “some” of the more florid comments posted here…I stand back from such. Those comments in the main come from individuals who are very angry about many things – some with justification – often not directly related to the issue at hand. I make no judgement in that regard, adults are responsible for their own actions.

  49. DAVID ,

    Inmypj’sblogger IS HIJACKING THE THREAD!!

  50. Well it was just reported during Brass Tacks that Johan Bjerkhamn arrived back in the island this morning around 7am on private jet, and was taken to District E police station by his lawyer Andrew Pilgrim. He will be charged with manslaughter and then taken to Central for processing. He will then make a court appearance to face the charge, and is expected to be released on bail.
