Submitted by Crusoe (as a comment on the Haiti We Are Sorry blog

You list some good ideas for the structural retransformation of Haiti [Responding to Commenter Dictionary on the Haiti We Are Sorry blog]. Each in of themselves they do not depend on improved education but do depend on improved technical training (farming etc). However, for all, the long-term success of those initiatives individually and collectively leading to a successful Haiti will certainly also depend on improved education, if as we have been informed, the literacy level is so low.

This has two implications.

Firstly, immediately after initial search, rescue, medical, temporary (short and medium term) and security issues have been addressed as priority, the early reformation must include an immediate education programme, for adult and youth, such that  the transformation of Haiti can begin with the active participation of her people, not as ‘serfs’ but as active individuals and communities with an understanding of the reasoning behind the methods and the aim of the methods.

I must add, that ‘transformation’ in this context is not meant to refer to bringing Haiti to the same philosophical outlook as anyone other specific group. In this context it is meant to refer to bringing Haiti to a level of self-capability and self-determination. Now, to expect say a three or four year ‘crash course’ in education and technical skills may seem either impossible or unrealistic, but unfortunately, if this is not done as one of the foundations of the rebuilding (in the context of not only structural, but as a nation of people), than all else may eventually prove futile.

This is obviously along the lines of the old phrase of teaching a man to fish instead of giving him the fish. Merely putting up structures, farms etc may certainly alleviate some misery, but while in the short term foreign contractors etc may gain much from the aid given for this purpose, the long-term goal should be to have Haitians and not only elite, but the everyday Haitian, benefit from money flows and thus create an independent people and a vibrant economy.

It is my view therefore Caricom leaders, should address the education of Haiti, as a priority, as much a priority as any other redevelopment effort.
To reinforce a point, the initial effort must not only be to set up an improved schooling system, but implement as an interim measure, an ’emergency education programme’, with the help of international authorities and the Haitian authorities. If one wants a long-term Haiti, this is essential.

We must give thanks yet again, that Errol Barrow saw the necessity of education as a developmental tool. And, we must forever resist ANY attempts to take free education from Barbadians. Indeed, those of us who wish for an improved world, must seek the furtherance of a sound even if basic education, for all peoples, as a necessity for development.

  1. ….”So help me God, I can do none other, here on this thread, or any other; as I have a mandate from God’s Word, whenever, and wherever to do just that!”

Then why post as Zoe, why use a handle?
Why the anonymity in spreading Gods word if you are mandated by Him to do so?
Can you or anyone explain, sounds like forked tongue to me.

  2. @ Technician,
The more I see of Zoe’s preaching/teaching the more I am reminded of people like JIM JONES!

  3. you can’t blame zoe for wanting anonymity

Psychosis (from the Greek ψυχή “psyche”, for mind/soul, and -ωσις “-osis”, for abnormal condition) means abnormal condition of the mind, and is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state often described as involving a “loss of contact with reality”. People suffering from psychosis are said to be psychotic.

People experiencing psychosis may report hallucinations or delusional beliefs, and may exhibit personality changes and thought disorder. This may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behavior, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out the daily life activities.

  4. Hood
Nonsense! There is no similarity with Zoe & Jim Jones.
I have been to several Bible studies here and there, and listened to tapes by men who teach the Bible just as Zoe does.

This teaching style might be new to you………..but it is not new. Most of us grew up in Bim in the Anglican church where we heard Bible stories and God knows what in talks called sermons that had very little spiritual food. When we hear a man teaching normally you say he is abnormal. Total BS! ha ha

  5. Hood

Do you realize that your feeble attempt at explaining Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit is exegesis and that you are using hermeneutics or trying to without even knowing it.

Then you say “I fully expect the “hermeneutics & exegeses” to be aimed full blast at me now with a completely opposite rendering!! So take it away fellas……..!”

I hope the fellas ignore you. We all understand your attempt to bash the BU Trinity because Zoe exposed the inner workings of the Mormons.

I have a whole group of folk (wont give you the number following Zoe’s teachings ) and he certainly enlightened us about the mormons.

As a result of his posts even our teen agers are discovering the myths taught by the mormons on line and from library books.
BRAVO ZOE stick it to them.

Keep preaching the Word in seaon and out of season. Ya 2 sweet man.

  6. Technician
You asked Zoe why post as Zoe, why use a handle?
    Why not?
Why do you post as Technician? Why do you use a handle?

You ask again Why the anonymity in spreading Gods word if you are mandated by Him to do so?
What is most important, the message or the messenger?

You rant on “Can you or anyone explain, sounds like forked tongue to me.”

My beloved girlfriend, a lawyer, would tell you that “That is a non sequitur!” IT DOES NOT FOLLOW! Ha ha

  7. Praise be to Your Holy Name, Lord Jesus Christ, Glory to you, in Your Majestic Splendor!

I’ve being labeled as ‘psychotic’ because I stand up for Your Word, as revealed in Scripture, the Bible!

Thank You Jesus, as Your Word does warn those of us who resolutely stand for You and Your Word:

“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master”

Hear Jesus as He goes on to say:

“It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called (Jesus Christ) the master of the house Beelzebub (Was the Philistine god of flies, used by the Jews to denote the Devil) how much more will they call those of His household!”

“Therefore do not fear. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.” (Matt. 10: 24-26).

If The Lord Jesus Christ; God of very God, the Second Person of the Eternal Godhead, the Only Saviour of mankind, was called Beelzebub, Satan, who am I to be called psychotic!!

Amen to that, I say Amen!!

  8. @ Anon…

It is truly amazing how you are always berating people about taking things out of context but continue to do so.
If the messenger is truly a child of God, who should he fear or why should he fear?
I post as Technician because I fear persecution, why do you post as Anon?
a rant is a non sequitur…wet mud?? ROFLMFAO!! AYFKM!?!
You need better pillow talk skipper!!

  9. The Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Eternal Godhead, who Inspired the writers of the Bible, NEVER, EVER, guides, leads or teaches CONTRARY to the Word, the Bible, that *HE* Inspired. That IS Biblical theology!

Now, they are those, Mormons like Hood, et al, who vest their trust in the Book of Mormon, and other spurious writings of Joseph Smith, Brigham young et al; who kneel down, and ask the Holy Spirit, IF, the Book of Mormon is true; they then claim that He, the Holy Spirit spoke to them, confirming that the Book of Mormon is true and correct!

Just like Joseph Smith claimed that Moroni, the son of one Mormon, divinely revealed to him, this NEW revelation; a Demon from the pit-of-hell, masquerading as some angelic being; likewise, some other *Demon* masquerading as the Holy Spirit, deceiving Hood and other Mormons with this utter nonsense.

When you do NOT KNOW the Truth, God’s Word, as revealed ONLY in His Word, the Bible, you ARE game, bait, for masterful deception.

Truth by definition IS *absolute* exclusive. God’s Word, as revealed in the Bible, IS *absolute* Period!

  10. LOL

I see that the trinity boys are out in full force- they even have GP hulking out as ‘anon’ – LOL

Sorry Mr Zoe, I had a busy day so I only just got to read you kind and thoughtful response. (snigger)

Strange how you folks seem to think that by posting long-winded responses you somehow score extra points

When I read your rebuttal of my suggestion that Jesus was saying that in order to be considered great in his kingdom, one needed to become like a child – you go to great lengths to say the same thing – and then you conclude that I do not know what I am talking about..???
ALL I SAID WAS WHAT JESUS SAID.

Long ago, I challenged GP to explain to us why it was that Jesus spoke in parables IN ORDER TO CONFUSE AND MISLEAD those listening. Like you, he abused me and he threatened to stop talking to me.

I asked him to explain why God MADE the devil – and he answered that he does not know everything and that he did not consider that matter important.

Well gentlemen, like the chicken and egg to evolution, these points are CRITICAL because they are INDISPUTABLE facts, and they contradict the very tenants of your pentecostal theology.

In short, they blow holes in your cozy doctrines of the Trinity, and your other bible school exegeses and mumbo jumbo.

If you were truly open to understanding the truth, you would re-evaluate your beliefs, open your minds and humble your spirits (Ask, seek and Knock), in light of these discrepancies.

….but instead, your response is to cuss and abuse, and defend your clearly flawed theology to the death.

Conversely, even though Bush Tea knows the answers to these mysteries, It continue to be an honour and privilege for me to listen and to understand what others know and believe…. and to respect their rights to do so.

So I have no problem with WHAT you may wish to believe, just in your aggressive attitude to those who differ.

  11. While following a discussion on another blog, I came across this post which left me puzzled.

    http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/843677.aspx

Was hoping someone learned can put it in perspective.

  12. Zoe,

I read with the usual pleasure your exegesis of Collossians 2:15. It is like an oasis in the dessert to read your notes on BU amidst the usual nonsense.

I will share with you one I did about two years ago as part of a discourse on 2 Sam 9. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading yours.

In Collosians 2: 14 Paul speaks of Jesus ‘blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us’.

Now the word that Paul uses for handwriting is cheirographos. This word means a ‘signature’ or a ‘written agreement’. It came to mean technically ‘a written agreement acknowledging a debt; a ‘certificate of debt’, a ‘bond’

A cheirographos was a document which acknowledged a debt that had to be paid. So Collosians 2: 14 tells us that Jesus erased or cancelling a certificate of debt that was held against us.

Now the interesting thing is this. There were two words used for cancelling a certificate of debt. The most common word for cancelling a certificate of debt was chiazein.

Chiazein means to write the Greek letter chi, which has the same shape as a capital X, right across the document . There is recorded in the papyri an instance where after a trial in Egypt, the governor gives orders that a bond should be cancelled (chiazesthai), that is, ‘crossed out’.

But Paul does not say that Jesus Christ ‘crossed out (chiazein) the record of our debt; he uses the other word exaleiphein.

This is of great significance, because exaleiphein means to erase or ‘to wipe out or to obliterate’. It is so used of ‘wiping out’ a memory of an experience from one’s remembrance or one’s mind; of ‘cancelling’ a vote or ‘annulling’ a law; of ‘can¬celling’ a charge or a debt or of ‘striking a man’s name off a roll’ or list; of ‘wiping a family completely out of existence’. It always has this meaning of wiping something out as you would with a sponge.

It describes the effort using the contemporary chemicals and techniques the ladies used to remove stains and spots from garments, and grime from the tile grout in the bathroom etc.

Paul does not say that Jesus Christ ‘crossed out (chiazein) the record of our debt; he says that he ‘wiped it out’ (exaleiphein).

If you ‘cross a thing out’, beneath the cross the record still remains visible for anyone to read but if you ‘wipe it out’ the record is gone, obliterated for ever. It is as if God, for Jesus’ sake, not only ‘crossed out our debt, but ‘wiped it out’.

There is many a man who can forgive, but who never really forgets the injury that was done to him; but God not only forgives but wipes out the very memory of the debt. There is a kind of forgiveness which forgives but still holds the memory against the sinner; but God’s forgiveness is that supreme forgivenes which can forgive and forget.

God has forgotten our sin because it is blotted out by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
In Hebrews 10:17 we read “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more”

It is important for men everywhere to avail themselves of this forgiveness.

It was forgiveness of this sort that Mephibosheth recieved from King David, when he was made to sit at the king’s table continually.

    Blessings to you Sir.

  13. @Bush Tea, Your obvious ‘Cultic’ and probably ‘Occultic’ inclinations, are a deadly mix against any hope of your ever being able to correctly understand, and soundly interpret God’s Word!

  14. @GP, Many thanks for your appreciation of the exegesis done on Colossians 2: 13-15.

Yes, I also enjoyed your exegesis of ‘exaleiphein’ ‘To erase’ or ‘to wipe out’ or ‘To obliterate.’

There is nothing like getting into the understanding and opening up the hid treasures of God’s Word and God’s Son!

Blessings in Jesus Mighty and Matchless Name!

  15. Onlookers:

In this thread, apart from specific cases where I had to correct soemthign trutly outrageous or in gross and dangerous error,i confined myself to working through the steps for a Schools of Hope proposal for Haiti.

That, in accordance with the specified topic of this thread:

The Reconstruction And Transformation Of Haiti: A Global-Moral Imperative

Now, after 914 comments, it is plain that the anti-Christian commenters here have not been able to rise above animus, to actually address teh issue and how we could help address it as a region. Instead, they have indulged consistently in the trifecta fallacy of distraction, distortion, demonisation; all of which work to confuse, polarise and poison the atmosphere, frustrating positive deliberation towards achieving something good. This, sadly, can easily be abundantly confirmed above.

In some ways, worse, what I did above was a little exercise similar to when I taught sustainable development project cycle management. Namely, I constructed a proposal, live, step by step, on a framework I originally developed for teaching just such PCM.

Instead of seeking to learn — even if one could not make a direct contribution, one can at least observe, ask and learn — the said cluster of commetners sought to derail and dismiss, consistently, even descending into the most crude vulgarities.

This says a lot about their animating Spirits, but also about where our region is headed if such people increasingly dominate our “educated” and “leading” circles.

    We have been warned.

    ++++++++++++

On the project proper, DV, I will now turn the notes above into a proposal, and maybe ask David to post the proposal.

David, would you be willing to put up a Schools of Hope Discussion Draft Proposal thread? Or, at least link a PDF?

Finally, for those interested in developing Project Management skills, I strongly recommend the Guide to the PMBOK, 3rd edn, where PMBOK means “Project Management Body of Knowledge.” PMI — formerly PMLG –also has courses and various seminars and workshops. (If you scratch around enough you may find an older edn online for one person, non-commercial download.)

    G’day

    D

PS: Even on the Bible debates side, these commenters prove unable to accept even common garden variety hermeneutics and exegetical approaches, or just plain simple inductive Bible Study techniques. This is utterly revealing on the sad relevance of the exegetical comment made here (Feb 12) above by Zoe [a trained exegete], and the inductive one made here (Feb 21) above [by a trained Inductive Bible Study tutor].

  16. Footnotes:

    1. The US DoD did a free use extension to the PMBOK, c 2003, accessiblehere.

    2. The 96 edn PMBOK guide (still helpful but plainly not now cutting edge) is here.

    3. The UK Govt has sponsored its own extension focussed on critical points in the process, PRINCE: Projects in Controlled Environments (Now in the updated version Prince2:2009 refresh), which you can find a guide to here. There is a training and exams based certification process for PRINCE, as with the PMI’s PMP.

  17. Onlookers:

Finally, OpenProj — now enfolded in Star Office, Euro version [the commercial version of the very solid Open Office] — is an open source Project Management software package, available here.

Any volunteers on a Kreyol/French port?

    D

  18. Onlookers:

Then, there is the construction extension to the PMBOK, which is plainly very relevant to the case we face. So is the sustainable construction guide here.

  19. PS: Technician,

There are some fairly serious errors that need to be corrected in your linked.

The NT of the Bible is from C1, while Moshe is C13 – 15 BC [there are two significant schools of thought on his dates, one about 1300, the other nearish to 1450, cf discussion here], so the 1700 yr declaration is plainly misleading [it is the date on the earliest accessible relatively complete MSS].

But in fact we have more than enough evidence to trace the NT to C1, to eyewitnesses, to exclude the notion of it being copied from Sumerian sources [which further shows the sad ignorance of the author of the linked page], and to have high confidence in the copies, as discussed here]. And the Christian Bible INCLUDES the Torah as the 1st 5 bks of OT, usually in modern versions as translated from the standard Leningrad codex Masoretic text. I again commend to you the astonishing eSWORD resource which would enable you to learn from the original sources and the truly knowledgeable [e.g. you can get dozens of Bible translations, as well as the original language and interlinear, with keys to the standard Strongs system of cross references and morphological codes, with instant links to world class, top name classical explanations so you can see just how carefully the meanings of the words have been handled . . . ISBE, Easton’s Bible Dictionary and Smith’s Bible Dictionary, plus Matthew henry, Adam Clarke, Barnes and the like are well worth the investment of download bandwidth. I actually have the family of English translations from Wycliffe on. And then the books as topic notes is an awesome feature, e.g the Ante Nicene fathers, Schaf’s history, and much more down to GK Chesterton’s illuminating discussions], with a free for download library of classical resources that is worth USD 1,000’s easily. And if you are willing to pay, you can get the cutting edge professional resources that are now used by full-bore top drawer professional theologians, e.g. Logos Bible Software Scholar. (A lot more razzle dazzle [which can be motivational in a C21 digital world], but eSWORD, Xiphos and The Word have pretty nearly 90% of the substance for free.]

And as to the dismissive notion on Gentiles becoming followers of a Jewish messiah, evidently the writer of your linked has not read James the just [referred to explicitly by Josephus and in a favourable light] and other Jewish Christian leaders on the subject in Jerusalem in AD 49, as recorded in the known accurate history of Acts, in ch 15:

. . . Acts 15:5 But some [Christians] from the religious party of the Pharisees14 who had believed stood up and said, “It is necessary15 to circumcise the Gentiles16 and to order them to observe17 the law of Moses.” [–> That is, it was being argued that one had to become a Jew to be a genuine follower of the Messiah]

15:6 Both the apostles and the elders met together to deliberate18 about this matter.

15:7 After there had been much debate,19 Peter [–> we see here the decisive input] stood up and said to them,

“Brothers, you know that some time ago20 God chose21 me to preach to the Gentiles so they would hear the message22 of the gospel23 and believe.24 15:8 And God, who knows the heart,25 has testified26 to them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,27 15:9 and he made no distinction28 between them and us, cleansing29 their hearts by faith. [–> this refers tot he incident recorded in Ac 10 – 11, where teh Spirit came on Cornelius and co while Peter was still preaching that those who believe in Jesus receive forgiveness of sins in his name, which harks back to Mk 2:1 – 11]

15:10 So now why are you putting God to the test30 by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke31 that neither our ancestors32 nor we have been able to bear? [–> the dirty little secret of legalistic morality: we cannot live up to it, so it is a schoolmaster intended to lead us to penitence, not something we can carry out on our own strength]

15:11 On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through33 the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they are.”34

15:12 The whole group kept quiet35 and listened to Barnabas and Paul while they explained all the miraculous signs36 and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

15:13 After they stopped speaking,37 James [–> Son of Mary and Joseph, called “the just,” and the James referred to in 1 Cor 15, as seeing the risen Christ, which is what led him to become a disciple of Jesus along with Jude (of the bk of Jude in which Jude v3 on contending for the faith once for all delivered to the saints is] and other brothers] replied,38

“Brothers, listen to me. 15:14 Simeon39 [–> i.e Peter, which is actually a nickname given by Jesus: rock] has explained40 how God first concerned himself41 to select42 from among the Gentiles43 a people for his name. 15:15 The44 words of the prophets agree45 with this [–> i.e. the new age of the outpoured Spirit is rooted int eh prophets, and of course Is 53 is the keystone, which we will find nowhere the faintest trace of a serious discussion of in the argument you linked], as it is written [–> the formal way of invoking he authority of the Word of God as written and acknowledged],

    15:16 ‘After this46 I47 will return,

    and I will rebuild the fallen tent48 of David;

I will rebuild its ruins and restore49 it,

15:17 so that the rest of humanity50 may seek the Lord,

namely,51 all the Gentiles52 I have called to be my own,’53 says the Lord,54 who makes these things 15:18 known55 from long ago.56 [–> the Net Bible, note 54: A quotation from Amos 9:11-12 LXX. James demonstrated a high degree of cultural sensitivity when he cited a version of the text (the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament) that Gentiles would use. [I add, many Jews of the Diaspora across the Roman world too]]

15:19 “Therefore I conclude57 that we should not cause extra difficulty58 for those among the Gentiles59 who are turning to God, 15:20 but that we should write them a letter60 telling them to abstain61 from things defiled62 by idols and from sexual immorality and from what has been strangled63 and from blood. 15:21 For Moses has had those who proclaim him in every town from ancient times,64 because he is read aloud65 in the synagogues66 every Sabbath.”

[NET open source free to cite in extenso translation, which is available as a download, with 60,000 translators’ notes . . . BTW, technically, the KJV under recent developments of copyright law, is back under Crown Copyright internationally as Crown Copyright is on UK law, in perpetuity. Of course one can plead fair use . . .

In short, T, you are searching for information in all the wrong places, when good, credible sources are easily accessible but — on the record of recent weeks here at BU — are not consulted, are ignored when used, and if cited, are often dismissed.

Onlookers: Why is that a clear, often- repeated pattern here at BU? What is that telling us?

Okay, enough on correctives for now.

    G’day

  21. (Jesus in the) Gospel of Judas

These are the five who ruled over the underworld, and first of all over chaos.
    THE CREATION OF HUMANITY
“Then Saklas said to his angels, ‘Let us create a human being after the likeness and after
the image.’ They fashioned Adam and his wife Eve, who is called, in the cloud, Zoe. For
by this name all the generations seek the man, and each of them calls the woman by these
    names.

..Lift up your eyes and look at the cloud and the light within it and the stars
surrounding it. The star that leads the way is your star.”

Judas lifted up his eyes and saw the luminous cloud, and he entered it. Those standing
on the ground heard a voice coming from the cloud, saying, [58] […] great generation
[…] … image […] [—about five lines missing—].
    CONCLUSION: JUDAS BETRAYS JESUS

  22. There are good guys and bad guys following all religions

Now folks lets try to focus on the matter in hand

    i.e. H A I T I

  23. Now, after 914 comments, it is plain that the CHRISTIAN commenters here have not been able to rise above animus.

  24. David:

    Thanks.

Be back to you in a day or two.

    ____________

    Kiki:

In one breath you call for a return to focus — which even I (at length) have given up now. [I intend to draft the actual proposal in the next day or so, and pass a copy to David. As he wishes, he might post a fresh thread, or at least links from this thread.]

But in the next, you cite the worthless C2 Gnostic text [from a C4 or so Coptic translation, rendered into English a few years ago], the so-called gospel of Judas, as though it had any credibility relative to the C1, eyewitness based NT!

You MUST know that this is a pungent red herring distractor; which cuts clean across the surface meaning of your call for focus, effectively opening up anyone who corrects you to the accusation of being distractive.

    A neat turnabout rhetorical trick.

As the commenter who has done the most on the actual topic, I will take a moment to point out correctively that Judas has been known of ever since the days of Irenaeus, and has been shown to be precisely as he described it then:

Against heresies, Bk I Chapter XXXI.

    -Doctrines of the Cainites.

    1. Others again declare that Cain derived his being from the Power above, and acknowledge that Esau, Korah, the Sodomites, and all such persons, are related to themselves. On this account, they add, they have been assailed by the Creator, yet no one of them has suffered injury. For Sophia was in the habit of carrying off that which belonged to her from them to herself. They declare that Judas the traitor was thoroughly acquainted with these things, and that he alone, knowing the truth as no others did, accomplished the mystery of the betrayal; by him all things, both earthly and heavenly, were thus thrown into confusion. They produce a fictitious history of this kind, which they style the Gospel of Judas.[C. 180 AD]

of course, all of this stuff is linked to the current attempt to push the C2 Gnostic texts into a perceived comparable level with the C1 NT, thence to claim that the “official” eyewitness-backed summary of the gospel as traceable to 35 – 38 AD through the AD 55 1 Cor 15, is not foundational. So, let us go straight to the credible C1 sources and remind ourselves of the gospel that some would subvert:

1 Cor15:1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, 15:2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you – unless you believed in vain. 15:3 For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received – that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures [cf. the 700+ BC Is 52:13 – 53:12 & Acts 8:26 -40], 15:4 and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, 15:5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 15:6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.15:7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 15:8 Last of all, as though to one born at the wrong time, he appeared to me also. 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. In fact, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 15:11 Whether then it was I or they, this is the way we preach and this is the way you believed.

And, I believe it was the undersigned who objected to trying to treat “Jews” monolithically and stereotypically on theology or any other matter.

    G’day

    D

  25. David:

    Something else is in mod.

    Sorry again . . .

    ___________

    Re ROK:

    Sigh . . .

    Yet another turnabout, distractive accusation.

It would have been better for ROK — head of a national NGO umbrella body — to have made even some small substantial and positive contribution. Indeed, even at this late date, he could still mitigate the utter discredit and disgrace that he and his ilk have brought on themselves by their consistent performance here and in previous threads.

(Onlookers: The Christians have not been indulging in vitriolic vulgar name-calling, nor in racially loaded slanders against the gospel that have in earlier threads led to a call by Hopi to burn down churches. And, more ort less the strongest term being used, folly, has abundant Biblical warrant and sadly plain applicability as was shown above.)

So, can we now — even at the last moment — do a bit better, ROK and co?

  26. David, thanks again.

  27. Dictionary you have listed posting events
    in an incorrect sequence.
i.e. should read posts from the top down

    (1) I outlined Jesus Christ’s death
through the mind of the betrayer Zoe I
    mean Judas

    (2) I truthfully asked people to focus on
the subject matter raised i.e. Haiti
    disaster

  28. what did Jesus say about flinging stones?

  29. As a self-appointed facilitator on the BU
I suggest posters who make large submissions should provide links
    to their works where additional
    points can be added retrospectively
and can be referred to by those that
wish to do so as a permanent record

  30. BTW:

    On Logos 4:

I have a dream that some day, when you study Physics or Math it would be like that, with resources, media and background stuff, help, worked examples, and guidance at your fingertips. See why in part I want to get a rugged, low cost open laptop into every student’s hands?

(Did you know that in the days of the USSR, EVERY high school student in Russia reportedly did 5 years of Physics and 4 years of calculus? [Mind you I believe that meant that they viewed HS grad as being the 6th form level. By that standard I did 4 years of calculus-level math and 4 years of physics plus one of Integrated Physical Science, which then split into Chem + Phys. I also did 4 years of Chem, and 3 of Bio [up to O levels].] )

Imagine: a revised regional HS system, where we do an upper schooling from about 4th form on, with various tracks for the different focal areas, including business, tech, sci, arts commercial/office arts and admin, etc, and with integration into (a) Associate degree programmes, (b) Modern work-study apprenticeships, (c) business incubation (c) agriculture, (d) teachers eduction, (e) ICTs including multimedia technology and design, (f) arts, drama and music, (g) engineering technology studies, (h) health sciences and professional preparation. And more

Add to that the framework where we have access to lifelong learning, with community college campuses accessible in every significant town or village.

Do you see what we could do as a region if we were to come together around schools of hope for Haiti?

  31. For example A Letter to Nelson Mandela
    Posted by Sugar Minott
    has been added to “Mandela”
saying he is a jolly good fellow

  32. Kiki:

We can all read, and can see that you cited a worthless C2 Gnostic text as authentic. That gross error — given the big push to make the ill-informed think just such texts are credible — is what I corrected.

And, as you can see, onlookers, predictably K turned about and accused me of being off focus.

As for Zoe, he may indeed struggle with a temper [as I and many others do . . . and as, say, the Apostle Paul did] — and may suffer fools not at all (rather reminds me of several senior professionals I have known, and learned to respect for their substance, especially a nuke plant engineer who shall be nameless but who explained to me what it is like to have billion dollar responsibilities with potential for thousands of deaths; Zoe is talking about carrying ETERNAL responsibilities and accountability, so I will cut him some slack if he is heated in response to stubborn error and distractive abuse) — but he has been fundamentally on target.

That is far more than can be said for too many here.

    Sadly.

  33. No the point is that at 932 comments
and some more than a screen worth
the thread takes yonks to load up
so maybe ‘you’ could shorten posts
with references on a separate site
for safe keeping regardless of the
    subject matter being discussed
(or argued) about. BTW I am not disagreeing with you about anything

  34. So there is nothing wrong with the contents of anyone’s religious sentiments or instructive text on construction techniques from being posted excepted for size issues where there is too much of an overload on the system technology

  35. Kiki:

    Distractive again, I am afraid.

You know or should know that one of the reasons for putting issues and responsible substantiating matters in the thread — e.g. as above on the OLPC, Development Foundation Schools in India, or the proposal under development, or even the key materials from CARM on the LDS [notice, never cogently answered by TH] — is that there is a problem of refusal to follow and address linked matters, especially when the points are “hard” to handle.

So, unless they are undeniably in the thread, they have been ignored or distracted from. Indeed, I FOUND MYSELF HAVING TO HUNT DOWN AND POST SEVERAL VIDEOS TO GET ATTENTION ON TOPIC.

    G’day

  36. Or is it that , believe it or not, you actually get more responses, however bad, on this blog than on yours?
You have your own blog but I am yet to understand why you come to BU and try to chastise others, where the standard is so much poorer and the discussions are so beneath your high standards . You have all the best standards and strict moderation over there ..the perfect blog.

  38. T:

Off topic [and subtly dismissive], but you may wish to know that my own blog is not where I receive most of my responses to what I post there.

(And no, I have no inordinate desire to have an audience at any cost. I already have the audience I need for what I am doing. My motive for addressing issues and errors at BU is 2 Cor 4:2, and my strategy is in 2 Cor 10:4 – 5.)

As to why I intervened here, it was on request to specifically correct some serious errors, as I have done for some weeks now.

    Successfully, it seems.

And on the Haiti proposal, BU is most definitely not the primary audience; though I thought the public forum exercise would be a good capacity-building opportunity.

And on this may I give you a statement of appreciation for the notable positive contribution, which will be acknowledged.

    G’day

  39. Thank you Big D
it has been a character building exercise
in patience and mindfulness for all of us

  40. Maybe we should have a prayer meeting
so we can all learn to praise our enemies

  41. Zoe
With respect to your note on Colossians 2:15.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public specticle of them, truimphing OVER them in it.”

The Anglicans have a lovely hymn with a beautiful tune based on this pasage . As I recall the verse says…..

    Conquering kings their titles take
From the foes they captive make
    Jesus by a richer deed
From the thousands he has freed

in the phrase “He made a public spectacle of them, truimphing OVER them in it,” Paul was pointing out that Jesus by his death had conquered and by his resurrection had conquered even more as promised in the prote evangelium of Genesis 3:15.

It was well known that conquering kings and the Caesars of Paul’s day would return from victories riding on thier white chargers, as they led the captives they had taken in war walking forlornly behind in thier chains.

Such a parousia was indeeed a spectacle. More over history records that the conquering kings took to himself the titles of the kings of the realms that he had overcome.

In contrast in this passage, Paul notes that King Jesus removed or obliterated the sentence that was placed upon the condemned as he made a figurative spectacle over death when he arose from the grave and the place of the departed.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts as you relate this passage to the tenor and tone of this passage and the verse of that hymn with the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6, whose fulfillment appears to be imminent.

    Test Posting Test: Night Owl

  45. @Onlookers…

Wow, this guy is still flamboyantly flaunting his penchant for self-aggrandisement thru postings of others knowledge/teaching under the pretense that he really wants to help rebuild Haiti… the sincerity of such intentions I do question.

Here’s a quote from one of the original Snake Oil Salesmen himself..

“This is an opportunity to re-imagine the future for the Haitian people, to build what they want to become, not rebuild what they used to be.”

Now where does this man and many others get the gall to decide what is best for the Haitians? Do the Haitians want to become like the Amerikans? Or do the Haitians want to maintain their own identity and stay Haitian?

    WHO WILL OWN HAITI?

Why does every child need a laptop? So that big brother can have more control? Will a laptop protect them from economic and social vultures both at home and abroad?

On a another point of the re-construction process here is a quote from that Montreal meet Jan 25…..

“Due to its poverty and relatively unregulated labor market, Haiti has labor costs that are fully competitive with China, which is the global benchmark.”

So @ $2.50 per day how much can the Haitians really reconstruct a country of their own design?

The Canadians apparently want to funnel money into a trust fund that would be overseen by the …WORLD BANK. Heaven aide them!

    So..

Mr. Dictionary from whence will you get financial aid to carry out your plan [Red Cross, Obama or Sarkozy] or will January 12, 2011 still find it in its planning stages and Haiti becoming tent city of the Western hemisphere?

Will Haiti be better off come Jan 13, 2011?

Just watch how all this financial aid become nothing more than another ‘stimulus package’ for a certain few!

  46. Hopi

come on…you actually took Dictionary’s puerility seriously? Imagine the incongruity of some guy (from Jamaica – a “paradise” of social development) sitting in Montserrat (the epitome of reconstructed development, yeah right) telling Haiti how to rebuild!
