reparationsBarbados Underground (BU) is thankful for all the complaining we hear about our blog because it means we have freedom of speech. Thanks to Nancie .J Carmody who made the following quote famous: “I am thankful for all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.”

The evergreen race debate like immigration, homosexuality and topics of this tenor which BU is driven to blog about will always evoke passion. It is the nature of the beast. How can we debate the issue of race in a manner which is acceptable given the strong views likely to be provoked? The fact that we have people from different backgrounds whether influenced by race, education, socialization among other factors will make the race dialogue interesting.

BU finds it difficult for a Black person to be accused of being racist. It is our belief the word racist is often used interchangeable for ‘bigot’ or ‘prejudice’ by some. The BU household is always willing to learn from the BU family and welcomes feedback on our position.

We have demonstrated from our inception a strong commitment to freedom of speech. It is the reason why BU was given birth. As the world continues to follow the the furore over a black Harvard professor’s arrest here is what a contrite President Obama had to say “race is still a troubling aspect of our society.” Observers suggest Obama has had to retreat from his earlier condemnation of the Cambridge police officer concerning the stupid act of arresting a man who was understandably upset in the situation he found himself. If he did not USA may have become split down the middle on the matter of race. There was also the incident last month of White and Black groups clashing over how a young Black man was allegedly killed by two White men who had the charges dropped. The most embarrassing report of how race continues to boil in the USA is the portrayal of President Obama as a joker.

There we have it; it is one of the most liberal countries in the world which is often stated to be a melting pot. The issue of race remains topical. How can Barbados be immune from the issues associated with race?

Barbados Underground will not cower when we have to deal with the hard issues. Not too long ago BU was labeled xenophobic when we introduced concerns about the fallout from an open-door  immigration policy. Our concerns have now taken on a national, regional and global cry.

Black people were used as slaves by countries termed ‘developed’ to build out successful economies. In stark contrast most Black governed countries survive in a global realm which makes it difficult to achieve economic prosperity as a result of the geopolitical gymnastics at play.

How can it be changed? Will it ever be changed? Change is usually achieved through advocacy. History places Blacks at a disadvantage because of elaborate systems which have been created. It will take a long time for Blacks to penetrate the existing structures. In the meantime the 300 year plus emotional scares can only be soothed with verbal and monetary redress.

I have read the comment identified above.

  2. Me too, I’ve read it as well.

    Ah, bless.

  3. @Mongoose

I still mourning the death of I’Akobi who departed this earth in the presence of policemen; the same RBPF. Now tell me what time I have for this white Canadian visitor. I was so engrossed that I can’t even tell you how she died.

You see how all them police get off? Even in my country there is no justice for me,
    So don’t tell me about Ms. Swartzie; With all she money she was never and never will be;
Any help to me or I’Akobi.

  4. Many of you and in particular ROK, have deliberately and with malice aforethought, I might add, chosen to twist the the premise of the argument in an attempt to be seen as clever. No where and at no time in any of the threads dealing with tourism, racism, murder and crime in Barbados has anyone asked you to “have time for this Canadian visitor”. No one has asked you to show compassion or sadness that such a thing could happen, as compassion comes from the heart on a voluntary basis. No one has demanded that you have “time”, compassion or concern, nor is it expected. What is expected is that you not show an utter lack of respect for an innocent woman murdered while taking a stroll on a beach in Barbados with her daughter-in-law who almost did not survive the attack herself. I know that you are a very important person ROK, with much more important things to concern yourself with such as porn sites and knowing all the girls who who come to Barbados either to sell themselves or to get black doggie. Yes, indeed, very important weighty issues. And just for the record, ROK, I mourned and still continue to mourn the senseless death of I’Akobi, a bright young man who was robbed of his future.

  5. @Mongoose

The point/question has been made ad nauseam. Move on.

  6. David: Which question/point are you referring to because if you think that I am Jack Bowman you are very mistaken. As long as you continue to allow your blog to be used for the purpose of promoting racial hatred, there will be posters such as Jack Bowman, myself and others who will come and challenge you. If you don’t like it, get out of the business of being a vehicle for racists.

Short of making threats to harm, or inciting violence towards others, people should be allowed to freely express their opinions… “error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it” – Thomas Jefferson.
Keep up the good work David.

  8. BU has taken the decision to place two commenters under moderation. Commenters are encouraged to continue the elightening debate we have been having so far.

  9. Why do you keep removing my post to “Ready Done”, David? Cutting too close to the bone when I said it is only a matter of time before you start deleting those inflammatory statements made by Negroman?

  10. @Mongoose and we repeat, the point has been made several times about the deseased lady. We see not merit in you or others cutting and pasting the argument.

  11. Oh I see, so “free speech” is now only for those that agree with you David? What a coward and a hypocrite you are.

  12. Quoting David: “BU has taken the decision to place two commenters under moderation.”
Is the racist bigot Negroman one of the people you have decided to censor, once you figure out the technology and everything?

  13. The word is “deceased” you subliterate!

  14. This man Bowman is a terrorist. He on every blog thread with the same thing. Have to wonder though if he has mental or psychological problem; he is certainly a nut case.

  15. @ David
You really have to get up to speed here, man. If you’re going to end free speech and censor comments, you have to get to it right NOW.

  16. @ David
David, my comment is NOT “awaiting moderation” It’s right out there on the Internet, just like the repugnant vileness from Mr. Negroman whose comments you tolerate and that are not awaiting moderation. Hurry up, Dave. The vileness from your blog is about to spew true racial hatred. Hurry up to shut me up. Hurry!

  17. ROK, perception is a funny thing. From the day I saw your first post which is going back quite some time, I concluded that you were a nut case.

  18. The continued reluctance of BU regulars to genuflect “…when confronted with someone of superior knowledge and intellect”, is responsible for the recent upsurge in spam.

Please acknowledge the literary genius, for there will be no peace until you do.

  19. @ Mongoose Jack Bowman

would you tell me why BU should allow all your decrepit posts to remain intact all over the threads? If it was you I see it would have gotten chopped out ever since.

Why should you be allowed to broadcast the frustration of one man as if it was done by the entire black Caribbean race?

You are showing your true colours and if I was David I would pull from the first comment to the last comment so, in the name of democracy and free speech, I glad I don’t have his job to do.

You are making this a big thing because you feel that we should feel guilty about negroman saying what he said. Do you feel guilty about the atrocities that your forefathers did to us? Are you willing to give up all the blood money you inherited and become poor and destitute all your life?

Are you willing to die on the cross for the sins of your race? Why do you seek to further persecute black people? You don’t think we had enough?

If for you, one instance of calling somebody white trash is such a big thing, then you should understand the unconquerable mountain that rests on Negroman’s shoulders, because not only was his forefathers trash to yours, they were treated like trash by them.

The same cannot be said for that Canadian lady. She nor her foreparents were treated as trash and one man out of millions calling her white trash cannot make a difference. We do not condone screaming and carrying on in public, but when it happens that a mother loses a son and she screams and carries on in public, we accept the fact that she is in pain and would not ordinarily behave that way.

You on the other hand would want to arrest the woman and place her in jail for whatever behaviour your law would outlaw it by; simply because she is grieving?

The unreasonableness, gaul, gumption, arrogance and persistent persecution against black and other races as perpetrated by the white man is not simply wrong, but an abomination of the highest order.

It did not just stop with slavery it continues without remorse as Mr. Bowman shows, but if you (the white man) don’t face up to it, someday you will make a mistake and you will pay dearly in the long haul.

  20. Good judgment Mongoose.

  21. @David

I was beginning to enjoy the ratings… Is that what was causing the scroll problem?

  22. Based on the feedback it seems so.

Will make a report to support.

  23. @David

Seems like we’ll soon be seeing the “call to arms”.

  24. It’s a thin line between love and hate.Nothing is wrong with the world but the people in it.So to have a lasting peaceful world is to get rid of all the people and start all over again. As long as humanity is borned in sin and shape in iniquity we will always defualt to the lowest common denominator of our instinct.

  25. @zion1971

Quite true………………….Unless we yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit and throw off the natural man.

  26. Thread heating up nicely. Fortunately I have to go out for some pernarqnic. I should be alive in the morning, when I shall attempt to respond to ROK.

  27. @Robin Hood, I would re-write you assertion this way, “Unless we yield to the enticings of nature and throw off the White man.”

@zion1971, like you been reading John Zerzan. Check the video below. See how they tried to crucify Zerzan for making that statement. Be careful.

  28. Quoting Mr ROK, amateur pornographer and “leader” of an NGO:

“Are you willing to die on the cross for the sins of your race?”

What race would that be, Mr. ROK? The human race?

Do you know to which “race” I belong? How do you know that? Actually, you don’t know that. You don’t have a fucking clue.

The entire human race can be divided into two groups: people I like, and people who are shitheads. And you, Mr ROK, with all due respect, are a shithead.

  29. David you must make “Race” a topic at least once a week. lol!

  30. @ROK
I strongly advise you to be careful with your railings against the “white” man.
Reason being that you may be most surprised with the percentage of their blood that runs in your veins!

  31. If you were to tell me that the majority of black people are powerless to exclude those of other races from benefits which they might seek, I may be prepared to accept that. But do not believe for one second that other races have a monoply on bigotry or prejudice, from which blacks are free
    ###########################

Black people generally respond to prejudice with their own prejudice. The reason why it was easy for Black Civilations to be over run and destroyed by foreign elements is because they were culturally too accepting of strangers in their homes. That trait remains up to this day, and hinder the growth of black people. If the world was similarily ideologued, this trait would have no negative repercussions. However, because every other group have attitudes that are completely the opposite of the Afican trait, it ends up having the effect of the mythical Trojan Horse on the communities of black peoples.

Racism does not suddenly appear in people’s psyche. It is a develoment of cultural and religious beliefs based on the superiority and inferiority of humans. There is no evidence of any such historical African religious or cultural belief system. The overwhelming majority of people and groups with traditional practices of racism are those with a religious or cultural belief system that they are superior as a group, or those who interpret their belief systems mean exactly that. In the end it is the same thing.

  32. @Robin Hood
I am not sure that I would take your advice seriously at all. Even if that were so, I do not reap white benefits so that places me squarely in the Black race.

Let me tell you the difference between you and I, if you are white; and I am taking it that you are from the name even if you are only a mask. You see, I can stand up and say what I have to say about the white man without any desire to attack a single one of them in that anger.

You on the other hand are guilty and therefore it hurts you. If somebody called me a racist, it will not move me because I know who I am. On the other hand, the white man has demonstrated that he can’t take that and that he would want to damage anybody that says it to him.

In the end, it was the reality 400 years ago and is still a reality today that we are your slaves. One you can’t face, while people like me living it everyday?

You have no maturity and fear that you lose your wealth or get attacked by raging mad black men because of the talk. Or is that now a mechanism to ensure that you don’t have to part with a cent?

Well, it ain’t going to happen so. One of these days, when the pressure get hot enough and black people realise their wealth at home and the fact that they don’t have to participate in your economy; or realise that to participate in your economy means death to them, and to spend a cent with the white man is to encourage their own slavery and death; they will start their own economy, print their own money and tell you to go to hell with your economy.

It don’t take no rocket scientist to set it up and let me tell you that $1 in the new economy will be worth about US$100. Not only that, we only trading in we own currency and any person caught counterfeiting our money will be dealt with harshly; like half life in prison…

And when that day comes, we will be able to wipe away all foreign debt with a few of our dollars; give you a little start, but we will be accepting white labour to do the menial jobs our people should not be doing and that is the only way any white man could earn our money. Come and work.

  33. Dear David on August 6, 2009 at 7:11 pm you wrote ” BU has taken the decision to place two commentors under moderation.”

    WHO?

    WHY?

  34. @ROK
Thanks for the offer of employment but, my friend & brother, the realm to which I am soon destined will certainly have no place for wealth as you know it.
Furthermore, if you look to me or any in my position for any so called reparation then I am afraid a snowball would have a better chance in hell. You see whatever bread has ever passed my mouth has been by the sweat of my brow and I mean that literally.
I was once told by one of my employers (oppressor?) that I have nothing, never had anything and WILL NEVER have anything. But money and wealth never attracted me and now that I am close to the end of this part of my existence it (wealth) still has no attraction for me. As far as your accusation of guilt…………….I ask guilt of what? Of trying to exist as peaceably as I could with all my fellowmen, whether they be white, black, yellow or olive complexioned? Guilt for extending a helping hand to any who needed it and that I could so help? I am not seeking any quarter here nor do I intend to yield any if it comes to that but I just wanted to state some facts for the record. Isn’t our time here in this existence a bit too short for all this acrimony? Can any of us change the past? Can’t we all learn something from past errors and improve our lot and progress?
I certainly don’t know the answers but I sure hope that we can all one day meet on some common ground of brotherhood!

  35. @robin hood

“Isn’t our time here in this existence a bit too short for all this acrimony?”

Nicely said. I am sorry that you were not around 400 years ago to tell your white forefathers that their existence was too short to indulge in all that cruelty against the black race.

No, we can’t do anything about the past but the past that is still with you, you can do something about. Brotherhood? You sure you spelled that right? It is more like Botherhood coming from the white man. The lack of acceptance is with the white man, not with me, so I don’t know why I would want to look to the white man for brotherhood.

If he can’t bring it to me, I would be an idiot to look for it from him after 400 years of bondage and still counting.

  36. @J
What is your problem? You get moderated? What you want to know who moderated for? So long as you not getting moderated, be happy.

  37. David you must make “Race” a topic at least once a week. lol!

    Says a lot doesn’t it?

  38. Why is my post being moderated?

  39. @ROK
So, my friend, what is your answer to the situation as you perceive it or your suggestions to solve problem?

If given the chance, would you have all the “whites” rounded up and tortured till they are dead? Or imprisoned somewhere? Or put on a ship or two and put adrift somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic?

  40. The racist talk has been going on in Barbados from the 60’s.

It was given licence by our politicians who were not taken to task and made to face the ugliness of the words they spoke.

Yokels like us learnt to use the talk and/or became accustomed to it gradually.

    I know, I am one!!

What Negroman said was ugly but the sentiments are not really out of sync with what we grew accustomed to and more importantly what we accepted as the norm.

In today’s “freer” society he is expressing himself with no inhibitions.

Nobody ever dared question our politicians in the past so here we are, the yokels who came up under them, using the same language and getting all hot and sweaty when we are accused of being racist.

    They never were.

Liz Thomson captured on tape is about as ugly as it gets but her response and utterances are all learned.

She came along and saw it being done by her heroes so she did it herself.

Much of it is just talk and regurgitation of what used to be the standard political rhetoric.

I really do not believe that well educated people buy into the rhetoric, they just use it as it has been used for a couple of generations.

If you watch the politicians closely notice that few if any use it anymore.

It is too easy to tape them and let the public watch them over and over again like what happened to Liz.

In any case, our politicians have long exposed themselves for the charlatans they can be and no longer are our heroes and the leaders we follow.

    There is a vacuum.

    No real leadership exists.

I reckon much of the racist talk emanates from persons, usually male, who would have grown up in the 60’s and 70’s and who were indoctrinated without even realising it.

When called to account they find it incomprehensible that anyone could call them racist …. after all they are “black” … but won’t take the time to sit back and dispassioately read the words they wrote because these are the words they have been wanting to say for years to be like their heroes.

Hopefully the young are more sensible and the sentiments, like us “old” guys, will pass into oblivion …. in 20 to 30 years time!!

  41. be careful Bowman. You called me an amateur pornographer. let me paste it in for you. Your quote. “Quoting Mr ROK, amateur pornographer…”

Negroman do you agree with Bowman that Mr. ROK is an amateur pornographer?

let me fill in Mr Bowman because he obviously feel that he is staining or hurting my character. There is an NGO called the Gays and Lesbians, so it is not right for the leader of an NGO to be a Gay or Lesbian?

but I sure you are a Jew. Just like foolbert if not foolbert himself. Don’t feel too safe behind your pseudonym because every time you post a message you are traceable down to the street and building you in. I will get you.

  42. @robin hood

only you would have such cruel thoughts, my justice is to make them work, I ain’t wasting my life rounding up nobody. I leave that to you.

Nor would I be wasting money on them in jail. Nor would I waste a ship putting them adrift. The Creator will deal with them in due course. Remember the rule, to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

My opposite reaction would be to isolate them from me economically, we will await the Creator’s response as that is where vengeance belongs.

Now you can head back to Nottingham with your merry men.

  43. Bon voyage, to you too, Rokie, have a good nite!

  44. @John

I admire your positive approach, but right now, the only thing I see the next generations doing about this problem is to lash out more and more because the crap we took they ain’t going to take and you can be sure that the white man will not ease up.

Another thing I see about the younger generation is decisive and almost surgical behaviour. No fuss, no clamour, no lotta long talk; plain and simple action after keen observation.

You say there is no hope for the young people because they not taking the s**t, but you see, being in the position of “no hope”, will give rise to serious change.

It is only a matter of time before we have a PM that don’t give two hoots about being white and taking the white man bribes while slowly killing off himself and his people. One who will not allow Barbados’ foreign policy and national security to be dictated by the US or anybody else for that matter.

We have strayed far from the start that the Rt. Excellent gave us. What made the Barbados economy strong? The buy local campaign which we trying to bring back now as Best of Barbados and all kinds of crap.

We lost our sense of identity, although they say we did not have any back then. We have strayed from the empowerment of the poor and from building national wealth which is now in the pockets of individuals rather than as resources in the hands of the state.

With the start we had and had we continue on that path, we would be not only the envy of the Caribbean but a shining star to every black nation. As it is, we playing catch up at the 12th hour.

  45. ROK your video posting was quiet edifying.thanks.

  46. ROK, what I’m saying is the occurrence in Rwanda is viewed by the international community as genocide based either on racism or tribalism even though comitted by black people against other black people, whether u agree with that definition or not. I accept the international definition – thus, proving that black people ARE capable of racism, a supposition which, I believe that you and at least one other, denied! To believe otherwise would be to make ourselves look silly in the eyes of the world!

  47. “Don’t feel too safe behind your pseudonym because every time you post a message you are traceable down to the street and building you in. I will get you.”

    **********

ROK, even if David does n’t tell u so, the above is undesirable and, in my view, an apology and a retraction would be in order!
