Many Barbadians listened to and/or watched on the Internet this afternoon in eager anticipation to Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s nomination to represent St.Peter in the upcoming general election. The anticipation was fueled by the speculation that Arthur might announce the date when the country would move to election mode. Unlike our friends over at Barbados Free Press who ran a story today identifying sources that indicated the election date would be forth coming at this evening’s meeting, we have always sided with the idea that the Prime Minister would want the highway project to be further advanced, along with some of the other projects. The Prime Minister is savvy enough to appreciate that as time passes, the robust public debate on some hot and current issues like Hardwood will fade. So the Prime minister is playing his last trump. He will ride it out.

We must compliment both parties for using a non-traditional channel to disseminate information to the people. However, they have fallen a little short because they are using it to provide one-way communication. We detected some amateurism in the production and with some of the speakers on display; no doubt this will improve as time passes. (This comment was not meant to be a criticism) They need to individually interact with people at home and abroad by using the same technology. In the coming weeks, we are looking forward to making this topic our ‘Front Page’ story as election stories surface.

The countdown has started!

Please note the following:

  • We have provided a Submissions Page which can be accessed at the top of the page to discuss ANY issues which maybe troubling you.

  • We have updated our sidebar to show the BLP and DLP TV

  1. BFP, he can only ride it out if there are no more issues! But there will be many more in my view. The real cost of the road-widening on the ABC highway is now surfacing. There are some Town & Country planning decisions which will send shock waves through Barbados and, today’s BFP, tells me that the Mariano Browne/Owen Arthur relationship will be of interest.

The cost of living is not going anywhere but up. Houses cannot be built in six months and Hardwood is now deadwood. The QEH is still in a mess. The roads are terrible. Come on, what will Arthur ride out?

He will ride into a storm with little room to manouvre.

  2. They are streaming the camera feed directly to the internet. If they wanted to add additional cameras, they would need to add a producer, a director and other staff to coordinate the production. The idea of live streaming may seem like a technical marvel, but anyone with a webcam can do it.

The video streaming did not work for me. It spent too much time buffering, so I listened to the audio feed instead. However, after 20 minutes of the mindless political jabbering, I had a headache.

  3. Bajanboy I am with you on that. The presentations were flat and I was totally disappointed in Mr. Arthur’s presentation. Up to now I cannot even comprehend exactly what he was trying to say. Just mindless drivel.

  4. BU/David,

    There is BLP TV.

And there is a DLP YouTube video.

There is no such thing as DLP TV as you have tried to portray by EDITING AND MANIPULATING the image showing David Thompson above. That red marker in the top left corner was not there last night… WHY did you tamper with it.

    TruthTeller

TruthTell truth be told that neither in the strict definition should be described as TV, however it is customary to show these issues on an equal footing to avoid the impression of being overly partisan. The difference here is the BLP video is streamed live and they have batch transmissions, the DLP have only batch transmissions.

    David

  5. David,

I actually agree with you on this one, I think Owen is going to run this decision out some. They will probably play up the Kellman/Estwick/Thompson line some more. Wait for the Highway to be not such a mess, and probably let the New Hospital project develop into something a little more concrete. Also in the interim the DLP will have the challenge of sustaining the campaign momentum.

What will be interesting is to see what other “bouncers” the DLP will come up with.

  6. I would suggest that with each passing day his support is backtracking (no Jerome not in the manner you like) and his best choice is to call the election now sooner rather than later.

Bearing in mind that the Opposition has not yet turned its attention onto the issues of the scam that VECO, BANNISTER, NICHOLLS and OWING cast upon the project, nor have they addressed the GREENLAND PROJECT FIASCO, or more importantly have they addressed the DANOS 3 S ROAD WORKS PROJECT and we know based on this man’s track record with the JAMACIA KICKBACK AGREEMENT that this man DANOS has no qualms to be dishonest this is a proven beyond any shadow of a doubt the question remains to what level has he OWING, BANNISTER and NICHOLLS raped us and the treasury?

The is much in terms of real ammunition out there at the disposal of the dLP and for some strange reason many of Owings close friends are jumping ship like if it were on fire and in some cases they are providing relevant pieces of documentation that is showing him for what he is and that is purely a crook with no limits.

An example of this is the providing of yet another cheque written on the St.Peter Development fund account for $ 65,000.00 for reasons that offer no benefit to any St.Peter, St.Lucy or St.James communities but rather they are written to he Owing and his wife’s benefit, this is yet another immoral act done with no cares about the people who really need the help.

  7. Their reluctance to hold public meetings after their dismal showing during the Conversations with the people, is very telling. I have now watch Mia’s nomination twice. I believe that even if CWC was a success that elections would not have been held then, or if Hardwood was not an issue that it still would not have call them anytime soon. That nomination process, watching the body language of the candidates and tone and comments of Billy Miller tells a tale of a fractured party,…. Tells a tale that Owen had to make certain promise to Mia, Liz, and Billie for her and her supporters amongst the St.Michael BLP team to tow the line of Going with Owen. What we are seeing is, and Billie Miller said it best in her speech, is “YOU MUST ALWAYS BIG UP YOUR LEADER” That there is no real love for Owen, but merely the understanding that their success at the polls is tightly wrap up in projecting that image. Owen Arthur’s Own speech at Mia Nomination was punctuated with demonstrating that he supports Mia Mottley as the deputy and that he still sees her as the Prime Minister in waiting. This is the agreement to get her back in line. It isn’t to far fetch that if the BLP is successful at the polls to see Owen vacate the PM office.

  8. I made the submission that the Owen Arthur’s Government will call election not earlier than June 2008. First, the so-called price reduction would have to to show up in consumer’s shopping cart, the widening of the highway would have to be functioning with the various infrastructure in place and finally the results for the n0-confidence motion should not overshadow the election.

David, your submission is well thought out with reasons why this administration will delay calling an election date.

The person who stated in the BFP that he had reliable information from within the party that Owen would have called an election date during his nomination, surely was fooled. Hearsay is what cause destabilisational feelings in society.

WIV, your submission is incorrect. I can assure you that we are not going to hear any debate with the real issues that can affect this country in the long run. If these issues were that important, the leader of the opposition would have priortize these issues and place them on the front burner. This is the reason that election date will be no earlier than June 2008.

If the DLP over-use the artillery that they have at the moment, when the election date is called, candidates would have burnt out themselves.

  9. Owing is under an undue amount of pressure, he is fighting for his political life.

I have now heard him on the radio trying to defend his actions of moving the residents of SIXMENS out of their homes for the sake of the PORT ST.CHARLES MARINA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.

When he refers to building a facility for fishermen in the north of the island this is but mere spin, lets us ask who is building the project in who’s name is the investment being made?

It is not the gov’t or the taxpayers of Barbados this is part of the extension of the PORT ST.CHARLES MARINA PROJECT and the berths that will be available there will not be free to John Public they will be sold from prices starting at US $ 300,000.00 now you tell me which fisherman in Sixmens will be able to afford this asking price not many I would suggest.

There is no plan to accomodate the goodly fishermen of the area, it is a plan that Owing is keen to see proceed because it creates jobs in StPeter but destroys homes and living areas in Sixmens and provides NOTHING to the fishermen of the area but provides another Condo or two to him and more money in the bank for having done what he has promised to do that is to evict the residents of the area for his get rich scheme.

Thanks to PORT ST.CHARLES MARINA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT and a GROSSLY CORRUPT PRIME MINISTER for allowing the extension of the MARINA PROJECT at the expense of the fisherfolks of the area, well done Owing the higher the monkey climbs the more of its as you see you are a classic example of this outlook, you have displayed the worst taste in judgment ever as a sitting member of the house, you are a national disgrace and a liar of extreme proportions.

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

  10. WIV
There may very well be time for a change and new direction in the island, but Thompson is a problem.

I just remember an interesting thing about Thompson’s assent in 1987, that might generally not be known, or that might even have been forgotten.

It is a well known fact by those who knew then, and who might remember, that Mr Barrow had sought that Leroy McClean should succeed him in St John.

However, on Mr Barrow’s death, Leroy McClean was PURPOSEFULLY sent out of the island to do the honors with Barrow’s body.

In the interim, Thompson was catupulted to run for the seat in place of Leroy McClean who had been serving as a devoted and dedicated disciple and understudy to Barrow from at least 1974, to my knowledge.

Thompson won the seat just as even an old coconut shell would have- St John being DLP territory. The result is now history.

The sin that the DLP did against Leroy McClean in 1987 is now coming back to haunt them today.

The Scripture has well said BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT

  11. You will recall too that Commisiong was ahead of Thompson also in the pecking order .
You will recall that Commisiong was elevated to the Senate ahead of Thompson.

When Sandi outun the others to Governmemt house as Lenny St Hill said then, one of the things that was done was that the apple cart was overturned.

Thompson did not have work to win his spurs and get into the house then, he has never had to really work to retain his seat, and so he thinks that he will get everything easy.

I favor change, like many in the country, but not with Thompson as leader. I am sure that this is the feeling of many others in the country.

  12. Mia made an interesting point about Sandi’s leadership, which may be germane, because like Sandi did, it seems that Thompson is trying to be top dog without working hard for it. It takes more than talk to be a leader.

I was once told the following about Sandi by one who knew him well for a long period of time, and who witnessed his advancement.
The man said Sandi was never a natural leader that commanded respect as a leader.

He said, watch the boys at play. There is one boy who says lets stop playing cricket and go to the beach. All agree and they go to the beach. He , he asserted , is a natural leader.
    But…
1- When Sandi came to HC from CP, I as Games Master made him the Captain of the cricket team…..cause the white boys didn’t want to play with him.
2- When he came back from UWI, XXXXX and I made him the Head of the Department of English of HC ahead of the white teachers who came from England at the time.
3- Dipper took him from HC in 66 and made him his personal aide, and then Minister
4- When Dipper died, and Richie started to canvass, Tudor sent him to the Governor General.

Truth is though, that Sandi had more preparation for leadership than Thompson, even though he was not a natural leader- even though a Barbados Scholar.

  13. Georgie Porgie

The year is 2007 and people have matured and some people have lost it example of losing it Owing See Thru Arthur.
We really have no option but to remove this gang of fraudsters sooner rather than later.

  14. I hold no political memberships but I am disgusted to see the rape of this island done with no regard for the citizens the ones that care about this rock!!

  15. None of this nonsense about natural leader, and preperation to be leader, and who did and did not do the hard work would matter where it not for a system that requires a person so designated as first amongst equals to be at all times, up to the task of using trickery, and corruption, maintain the loyalty so needed to lead. Let the people directly decided.

  16. The attempt to sell the readers on the blp is entirely up to you and through which ever manner you opt to so is up to you.
However what you must seriously ask yourself do we want to subject ourselves and the Nation to another 5 years of stealing at the level which has been displayed during the life of this present gang?

In your case I would guess based on your ramblings and your posturing your reply will be yes but for the majority of logical thinking and honest citizens the reply will be a loud NO.

It is certainly a time for a change, to bring back some respectability and honesty back to the House of Assembly and I beg that on assuming office they select a fair and honest speaker free of political bias as is so clearly the case with this clown Roett.

  17. I hold no political memberships but I am disgusted to see the rape of this island done with no regard for the citizens the ones that care about this rock!!

If your PR submission is being done without being a member, wonder what your posts will be if you were a candidate. Remember I know who you are.

  18. Georgie, while I agree I have to ask you three questions that I often ask a debating colleague of mine when this issue arises.

    1. Is David Thompson doing a good job of leading the DLP at this present time?

    2. Did anyone prior to Owen Arthur’s ascension to the PM post believe that he would have done many of the good things he has for the country and the region?

    3. Would you prefer to re-elect a government which you know is stealing from you, treating you with scant respect and wasting lots of your money…or to give another group of persons with the potential a chance to prove their worth?

  19. I do not hold or have ever held any memberships in any political parties here or anywhere else.

Hence my willingness to speak out on the issues affecting this island and when you wrap your brain around it then you will come to grips with the reality that this island needs a radical overhaul of the way it is currently being run and by that I mean the method of Owing feeding healthily at the trough and letting his clan feed while he is as well, meanwhile others are unable to see or reach a basic meal.

  20. I have no memberships in any of the parties but what the hell…Thompy for Prime Minister! Out with the thieving thugs. I can’t put it no plainer din dat.

Georgie, while I agree I have to ask you three questions that I often ask a debating colleague of mine when this issue arises.
    1. Is David Thompson doing a good job of leading the DLP at this present time?

A – #1 NO. I think that he should be putting the Government under more pressure in the meetings I am viewing online. (Please note I am disadvantaged by being away for five straight years.)

    2. Did anyone prior to Owen Arthur’s ascension to the PM post believe that he would have done many of the good things he has for the country and the region?

    #2 NO – I doubt. I certainly didn’t.

    3. Would you prefer to re-elect a government which you know is stealing from you, treating you with scant respect and wasting lots of your money…or to give another group of persons with the potential a chance to prove their worth?
#3 I would prefer to give another group of folk a chance- but I don’t trust David Thompson.

    Good questions Sir!
Seems we could have some good fair fights! LOL
    Respect due!

  22. I have to respect the strong anti BLP position of some of you fellas, because I can understand how you feel when you see these guys on tv every night on the news. They used to set me crazy!

I have been limited in recent times to what I get in the Nation online. Consequently, I am probably not as affected as you guys who are still in the fire…. right on the spot.

I believe that there may be capable chaps on the other side , but as I said, I am not so sure about Thompson, thats all.

  23. Georgie Porgie a fourth term government will always attract negative sentiment, it does not mean in our humble opinion that the people expressing these views are anti-BLP. It is simply a case of people feeling that enough is enough and if the DLP was in the government the same feeling would prevail similar to what Dipper experienced when he was booted out.

  24. David, Your comments are so direct and correct, there is a growing dissatisfaction with the blp and many aspects of their management of the affairs of this country.

None more pointed than their total and complete lack of respect to the voting public in their quest for information on how their money is being spent or wasted and in return the gov’t ignores each and every effort for information.

Instead we are laboured with cost overruns so far in excess of $ 750 MILLION a VECO CONSTRUCTED PRISON that started out with a price tag of $ 120 MILLION and finishes off at the unbelieveable figure of $ 290 MILLION, coupled with that we have another scam that is the DANOS 3 S ROAD WORKS PROJECT here to starting of at $ 60 MILLION and closing off at the dreamers figure of $ 360 MILLION and the project is not even halfway thru as yet so who knows how much more the cost overruns will upwardly adjust the final cost of this project, add to these Greenland, the absolute lack of information on the OIL STORAGE FACILITY this was also built by the same group that built the PRISON and the same group that is before the courts in ALASKA for PAYING POLITICIANS BRIBES, the COAST GUARD COSTING IS YET TO BE FULLY REVEALED as this too was done under a BOLT (BUY OWING LIKE THAT)arrangement, here again we need more information on this project, it needs a closer examination.

The real reason that people want them to move on is the extent of their corruption and on a lesser score it is also due to a level of arrogance never exhibited to the voters as these people are doing to us at this time, and no amount of cash will make up for the callous manner you have treated the people who have voted for you in the past.

  25. Georgie Porgie,
You all are so right “Thompson is a problem” for you and your BLP lot, you could not have put it better at lease you admit it in a public forum.

Georgie Porgie // December 17, 2007 at 5:44 pm (edit)

    WIV
There may very well be time for a change and new direction in the island, but Thompson is a problem.

So very true so I hope when it comes time for you BLP lot you remember this statement.

The Scripture has well said BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT

  26. Bunder ground

BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT is an axiom from the Pentateuch that can be taken out of its context always. LOL. It just happens to fit here. If the DLP had let the natural course of things then, Thompson might not be in the way today. That is my opinion, and I am entitled to it. ……….just as you are entitled to yours. I am not trying to persuade anyone to do anything.

Note that I did not say that Thompson was a problem to the BLP, but that he seemed to be a problem in the achievment of a DLP victory.

In reviewing all the DLP youtube videos, he seems consumed with Mascoll and Mia and Owen, but I am not hearing anything new…anything to suggest that he still has functioning Betz (brain) cells.

At Owen’s nomination, it is noteworthy that Mia Mottley was espousing the benefits she thinks Bdos should remember the BLP stewardhip for, and hinted of a way foward. It is noteworthy that she did not spend much time in ass licking of Owen as her colleagues did of her to week before.

    She focussed on the party

She and Owen et al are not my favorites either, but Thompson has been on the warpath for over a year now, but we seem to be wishing in vain for him to up a gear to tell us what he will do to change things in Barbados. He has not. One wonders if he can. That is all I am saying.

  27. Oh by the way, when I was invited to join the BLP in 1986 after the massacre I refused.

And everyday, on reading of the degradation deception and depth of immorality to which members of that institution has descended I know that God protected me from falling into such scum…… and I thank him profusely for protecting me.

    I am not DLP either.

  28. David, I do not think that it is rocket science that this gang needs to be given a much needed rest, the indications are very strong and commanding that they be rested, if for no other reason but their total arrogance to the voters and the people of this island when their leader can state in public forum he never wants to see the return of the DLP to office and that he is not looking at power for 5 years but he wants it for 15 years this is gross arrogance at its highest level.

Then we can discuss their corruption and owing’s and his close inner circle of friends and the massive growth in their financial well being.

Let us not loose track of the realisation that the balance of power was decided by fewer than 3,000 votes last time and it will not take a massive effort to reverse that position, the title of election and tactical master has evaporated from around Owing and his clan now he is nothing more than a spent political force fighting forr control of his own party and then secondly fighting for control of the treasury of this island and it appears to me that he is loosing out on both counts as mottley got him where it hurts, she has already undermined ASSCOLL by releasing the documents on HARDWOOD HOUSING to Mr Thompson and by releasing Speech to have been earth shattering news at their AGM but it turned out to be second hand news at the conference.

She has Owing making the most silly uncalled for remarks about the return of a DLP gov’t and has him telling her in a public domain that he is running things and not her.

How much more will she take from him ?
it is clear that the two of them are at war, who will step aside and allow the other free passage?

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

  29. I noticed with great amusement that you never heard Owing stating that he does not want ever to see the return of the the DLP to office nor his reference to mottley that he would be Prime Minister and not her, somehow those clips just happened to miss you at the time.

I am sure it does no good for your case to reelect them with obvious splits within the party!!

  30. I attended an excellent meeting in St. Peter. There was a receptive audience- the Hall was filled to capacity-

There were excellent presentations consisting of a review of government performance, the correction of misrepresentations put out by the DLP and an exposition on the vision for Barbados and we set out on a NEW BEGINING.

  31. The real plans for Six Men’s
    Published on: 12/18/07.

    by Ricky Jordan

GOVERNMENT HAS DISMISSED rumours that it plans to move residents of Six Men’s in St Peter and allow a private marina to be built there.

Addressing the controversial topic of the St Peter fishing village during his general election nomination at Alexandra School on Sunday night, Prime Minister Owen Arthur said Government could not, under law, take the land of any private individual and give it to another private individual or entity to develop.

Saying such thinking was the essence of “voodoo law” and could not be done, Arthur said Government’s plan for Six Men’s was to build a fishing complex and an inland lagoon, since there was nowhere on the West Coast to harbour boats during the hurricane season.

“They used to pull up (boats) at Port St Charles. The Government cannot rely on that. We need a safe haven for boats,” he said.

He said it would mean that people would have to be moved, since a fishing complex and a lagoon could not be sited on the land next to the west of the road in Six Men’s.

As far as any private project was concerned, the Prime Minister said that an additonal separate development to the south of Six Men’s, called Retreat, was the area for which private persons had applied for permission to develop.

“Now that is not the Government’s project. It is not the Government’s business. There is not a house on that private land. If those people want to develop a property to the south of Six Men’s, not a house will have to move,” he pledged.

Blaming a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) member for spreading news of the proposed private marina, he said the DLP should not even show its face in the constituency, since St Peter had had to endure more venom from that party than any other parish.

Blasting late Prime Minister Errol Barrow for saying Boscobelle was not on his map of Barbados and that its residents were behind God’s back, Arthur blamed the DLP for abandoning a series of developmental projects in the parish.

Among those he listed were a proposed industrial estate at Six Men’s for which land was acquired, but was abandoned when the DLP came to power in 1986; and a proposed fishing complex funded by the European Union, also abandoned in 1986.

Arthur said when the BLP resumed the Government, he therefore felt a duty to the people of Six Men’s to start the acquisition again, but the owner of the land had since then taken legal action against the Government.

“The only reason why things haven’t been settled with Six Men’s is because it is still before the court,” stated Arthur, who has represented St Peter since 1984.

  32. I see it also seems that Owing addressed the burning desire of mottley to oust him from power by telling her, that in essence she had no future in the party and that HE WOULD BE PRIME MINISTER if that sad day were to arise.

It also seems that he took his chance to eloborate on his desire to set up a DICTATORSHIP STATE WITH HE AS THE DICTATOR, when he stated that he does not want to ever see the DLP in power again, and his comments that he does not 5 years he wants another 15 years reeks with arrogance and corruption, it also says that he has no window of hope for mottley to have a bite on power for at lease 16 years if he had his way.

When a fight gets as nasty as this one is getting it is time for one to stand down for the health of the party but no we have mottley having her nomination and her clan of goons singing her praises, and we have owing and his gang of crooks singing his praises and no one who is willing to break ranks and support both, what does that say to the casual observer?

IOt says this is not healthy and the need to be put out to pasture and think on their roles in public life, I must say that the moraless beast that mottley is , is not fit to be the Prime Minister of the smallest rock in the ocean her manner her style her sexual appetite leaves a lot to corrected, we cannot have women who go around and openly assult other women because of their sexual passion or motives nor can we accept a PM bent on power to make the statements as this one is about not wanting to see the DLP ever in office again, this is a sad statement for him to have made, unless he has the bollot boxes stuffed or some more ter plan afoot he will be retired from public office in due course.

  33. I repeat for the idiot that missed the point the first time, there is no plan for fishermen it is a plan for PORT ST.CHARLES MARINA DEVELOPMENT open your eyes, ears and mind and undertand that Owing does nothing for poor people he does what has a financial gain to his bank account and this is exactly what he is doing here, moving the poor people to permit the building of the extension of the marina, for his friends and for his use.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO OR INA NY WAY SET OUT TO HELP THE POOR FISHERMEN OF THE AREA, IT HELPS HIS BANK ACCOUNT GROW THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT HE IS CONCERNED ABOUT.

  34. I cannot find Owen Arthurs nomination speech on the BLP website. Can any of you? It seems like they are having second thoughts about his “never to see the DLP elected to office agian”. We remember the fallout that Lynette Eeastmond suffered for a similar remark. I remember Liz remarking 2003 that a vote for Stephson Franklyn was a wasted vote becuase the DLP was going to lose and an opposition member of parliament cannot do anything for you. Remember that corn beef and bicuits politics lives on thru Liz Thompson. Her election wins have been some of the most expensive victories that were bought and paid for. So if Donville Inniss is expected to do good against her, I would assume that she is either not spending much, or Donville is out-spending her or the people have had their filled of corned beef and bicuits and have decided to eat her out, drink her out, then to vote her out.

  35. “PRIME MINISTER Owen Seymour Arthur is on a mission; not only to lead
This country for a fourth straight term but to ensure that the Democratic Labour Party
( DLP ) never governs again”
    ………………………………………………………………………………….
OWEN, YOU ARE WRONG. YOUR STATEMENT HAS CREATE QUESTIONS ON THE PATH YOU PLAN TO TAKE BARBADOS.

How can you be asking for a fourth term, yet you are telling the electorate that “you will ensure the DLP will never governs again”. With the talk of a republic in the air, this language from the you leaves a bitter taste for the electorate. A Government would only get away from such a statement if that Government is going into a second term after performing highly in its first year and the electorate are happy with the state of the economy, the state of infrastructural improvements with all ministries firing on all cylinders. Sorry, this is not the case, some of the ministries are running out of gas.

This is not an individual with a love for a political party, this is a theme for a political party. WIV, can you explain.

You accuse me constantly of being a BLP writer, I accused the said BLP and some of its undertakings that are questionable, I speak out. On the other hand, you are on a DLP auto-cruise, programmed from within the party to counter attack anything that is not favourable to the party. This is what I call a deceitful writer, who refuse to deal with areas that David Thompson might be associated with, namely, Rayside and the highway, Clico/Parris and the Mariano Browne issue. You do not have to answer me, but please, answer the public.

For a democratic forum to be successful, writers should be able to be versatile or the blogs will only be a one-sided affair with one-sided views from one-sided writers that will only lead to a one-sided state with one-sided listeners.

  37. It is amazing that some folks are slowly removing the blinkers and seeing the real challenges facing the electorate at this time.

The only other statement that can challenge owing’s for arrogance in his statement is the famous one made by Slimy Craig when he made the comment that if you were a DLP you should starve, when people reach this level of sickness of mind, they need to move on.

  38. We must not jump when we hear ennuendos due to partisan politics. We have been hearing of Six Men’s residence to be moved for an extension to the upscale Port St. Charles. We must check and wait to see if Arthur will stand by his statement.

Arthur said “Government’s plan for Six Men’s was to build a fishing complex and an inland lagoon, since there was nowhere on the West Coast to harbour boats during the hurricane season.

“They used to pull up (boats) at Port St Charles. The Government cannot rely on that. We need a safe haven for boats,” he said.

This is why we should have a writer based on neutrality.

  39. Frakology, please continue to present your opinions and approach to politics and let others do the same. I prefer to see WIV as a person who has made a choice between the two parties,….when someone has done that it is pointless after that to point out the flaws in the person their are backing.

….I am not a party person, but will make a choice every election between the two, after which i will present my case publicaly for my choice. I have made the DLP my choice in the next election, so my task going forward is to publicize why the BLP IS NOT my choice and why others should do the same. If the BLP is your choice in this election please state your case for them and why the DLP is not. WIV is as credible as any of us can be after making our choice. What says you? who will you be voting for? and who would you like to win?

    ==============================

…..at some point we must be partisan. At some point we must make a choice on where to place our x. If at this late stage you would have us not do so, suggesting that we wait further, do you not believe like the BLP do that they can win on their 13 years of experience? If we must tarry a while longer before we make up our minds , I am saying that it is already to late to concider the man with 13 years experience.

Christmas in the Square from our family to yours – Friday Dec 21st, 7:00 p.m. featuring Carlene Davis, Joseph Niles, Kimberly Inniss, Enobong, the Signing Dems and others.

  42. Arthrus Says:
“The only reason why things haven’t been settled with Six Men’s is because it is still before the court,” stated Arthur, who has represented St Peter since 1984.

    ==============================
I have to ask, what is the court case all about?

Now i remeber last year Billie Miller saying that the reason why the Lakes folly “stench issue” or the relocation of persons from down there was not dealt with was becuase it was a court case, and i seem to remember that the court case came about as result of Government not doing anything.

  43. Wishing in Vain, do you enjoy talking to yourself? Do you think that by writing/talking nuff and loud that you are talking substance. Talk on my friend, talk on .. in the mean time we will pursue a NEW BEGINNING.

Hi TOM PEE yuh busy today… ah mean writing and wishing in vain all the same time.

  44. What says you? who will you be voting for? and who would you like to win?
    ……………………………………………………………………..
Plain and simple. NONE. Both parties have the same ideology and being a small developing country, almost every political candidate are family to one another, eat together, drink together, tell lies together, corrupt together; and finally, laugh at us TOGETHER.

  45. Adrian, you must be saying that I am on WIV’s case, but this culminate with his constant negativity with the Owen’s lot. We know that certain dealing with certain ministries are questionable, but we must not cloud people with constant bombarding of his political diatribe, yet he refuse to deal with certain issues that might question the Opposition leader political and professional involvement.

Unlike you, although you are a DLP supporter, your behaviour is professional.

  46. Let me spend a minute to expose how poorly informed and his lack of education on the matter that he is shooting his mouth off about, he states that They used to pull up (boats) at Port St Charles. The Government cannot rely on that.

He is speaking on something that he is not informed on, or rather he is just lying thru his teeth, Port St.Charles Marina HAVE NEVER PULLED OUT ANY BOATS DURING ANY HURRICANE SEASON they may have open and provided a safe harbour but never have they hauled out any boats, they do no have such facilities available to them, I wish that before he rattles on about things he knows nothing about but designed to fool the masses and sound good, and to catch votes but he is a liar on this score and on many other issues as well.

It also seems that it has taken the absence of the Opposition and in particular the absence of the Leader of the Opposition Mr. David Thompson for Arthur to return to the house and say something after 8 months in absence.

  47. There is nothing professional about a blog we speak from the heart.

If the views do not mesh with yours so be it, you have choices to make but I will be around as long as the lord gives me the breath to do so, the fact of the matter is this current admistration will go down in history as the most corrupt, dishonest bastards ever to grace the House of Assembly.

If you have any doubts about this fact just take a look around you and you will see many examples of this stealing, the VECO PRISON, DANOS ROAD WORKS are but only two.

….So am i reading you correctly? that you will not be exercising your franchise, your God given right, a right that many died to make happened, that you will allow the injustice of our two party, first past the post, centralize governance system where the powerfull get all the access, and the masses are confined to 2X4 space to participate in democracy so doing every 5 or so years? Well if you are not going to participate, then the GoB has no reason to listen to you, and quite frankly me neither. If i am correct that you intend to be so caveliar about an important fuction that all age appropiate citizens must attend too, then i hereby tender my resignation from ever responding to anything you have to say. I would urge all others to so do. What would be the point? Are you serious? It is noted however that a low turn out at the polls would advantage the BLP. Is there a position that you will not take in the interest of the party that you so clearly want to win while claiming to be independent until the last moment? schhhuuuupppsseeee.

    ==============================

The people of Barbados don’t need to you to parse political commentry for them. We all had access to the same educational facilities and means of education that you may have been expose to, and so we too can discern for ourselves what is and what isn’t. I like choice,…..choice in the retial sector and as well as sources of information, from which i can determine the most likely case of truth. You state your case, and let WIV state his and i will pick sense from it all.

    So sayeth the people. 😀

….BTW there is a difference in my mind between being a DLP supporter and being a voter that will place his x for the DLP candidate in my constituency.

  51. Adrian thank you for you defence but I really have no need to discuss or argue any issue with this person, I have formed my opinion on this one from his previous comments on another part of this blog where he was clearly exposed to be a liar and in my books has no creditability to address me you or anyone on this blog on any matter, therefore my plan is to continue to ignore it.

Thank you for your support anyway, Happy Christmas to you and your family.

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

  52. Adrian. Democracy is the right of a person to do what ever that person please, once it is not a crime against the state or others. No country in the world ever had above 80% voters, I am just a fraction of the undecided or may I say deliberate avoidance in voting.

I have the right base on my observation to refuse to endorse any party (veto). Voting is not a God given right, neither having a child. It is that person’s right. If I had to vote, I will just get 10 cents and see if it will fall on either heads or tails, but I would not loose any sleep in deciding who to vote for.

  53. Here we go again Adrain, if I were a gambler I would place a bet that he will be the first at the door step of the electoral station on the morning of voting.

There is a copy of a motion befoore the house and it was placed there by the DLP on the same day as the Motion of no confidence was, where is the one from the blp?

    ******************

    BFP Comments

    Hello WIV,

You’re a DLP insider. Please post a copy of the new legislation/motion here on line for all to see an evaluate.
    …………………………………………………………………
I did not say it, your affiliation has been confirmed by the same blogs you write for.

  55. As I said before, I write when I see injustice and will deal with Dees, Bees, PEP or Political-would -like-to-be.

You all write because you might be paid for your PR mouthing. Simple.

  56. My PR mouthings are simply mine not paid not hired not connected.

Simply a very concerned citizen by the massive unabated corruption that is the trademark of this admistration.

I know some of you hate the subject but it is real it is in your face and for you to look the other way while they continue to shaft you that is a matter for you.

For me I will continue to speak out about this corruption and the role the PM has played in fuelling the fraud against the taxpayers of this island.

  57. The people of Barbados don’t need to you to parse political commentry for them.
    …………………………………………………………………….
Your bias is showing, Who is the biggest culprit in the one-sided disbursement of politics on these blogs. WIV of course!

But again, all of you might be working for one cause, and maybe occupying the same room for the same cause. Just remember Antigua and St. Lucia and St. George with political propaganda that backfired.

  58. So much said, nothing accomplish. We might meet on the other issue where are concerted minds will mesh and deal with other corruption that confronts this nation. I still stay this is what democracy is all about. We will never see through the same cornea at the same time.

  60. At least I have chosen to take a stand and I am supporting the DLP and I am willing to state my concerns truthfully and honestly.

Unlike you that try to say one thing and do something different, be a man and stand up and say I am a loyal party supporter trying my best to eke out a vote for the party on this site and the BFP site rather than to be hiding behind the closet door and peeping out.

I previously voted for both parties but this time around my vote is firmly with the DLP and its able Leadership in Mr David Thompson, and the vote will be against the corruption that has plagued Owing and his gang that make up the BLP.

  61. Plain and simple. NONE. Both parties have the same ideology and being a small developing country, almost every political candidate are family to one another, eat together, drink together, tell lies together, corrupt together; and finally, laugh at us TOGETHER.

  63. Well, I am ready to play and I would not allow anyone of you with political agendas to stop me from dealing with issues that affecting Barbados. All of you are of the same ilk and I will not allow you to stifle people, so brothers, the game is on.

  64. Wow!. My writing just hit someone’s jugular vein. We do have some truth from my statement and the attackers are drawing weapons to defend their territory.

  65. Frankology, so you just engage in intellectual jousting?

You all are famous for it, so heck! I can join the game.

Adrian. Democracy is the right of a person to do what ever that person please, once it is not a crime against the state or others. No country in the world ever had above 80% voters, I am just a fraction of the undecided or may I say deliberate avoidance in voting.

    ==============================

Frankology, I will limit my comments to you. I am not that inclined to talk too people who have no interest in exercising their franchise. I think it is the pinnacle of ignorance to be in one instance talking about abstaining from voting, and in the other to be relishing in your democratic rights. The latter does not exist for very long without the former.

  67. if I were a gambler I would place a bet that he will be the first at the door step of the electoral station on the morning of voting.

  68. Democratic rights also deals with abstaining from voting and with my stubbornness, the elections will come and go without my vote.

  69. WIV, if you know who I am, you will realise that I am a stubborn character and elections will past without my ‘X’. My one vote will only affect a constituency unless it is a tie and possibly, my vote would surely be missed. But that’s the gamble I will have to take my learnt friend.

  70. But what are the issues Frankology deals with? Frankly, I find him to tedious. He just splits hairs and, with an inability to conjugate, just plays with words. He is neither B nor D. He doesn’t vote. Does he breathe?

  71. What crap am I hearing about leadership and Owen Arthur? Tell me what has Owen led as a youngster? To what group did he belong?
He did not belong to a club, a youth group a church group. He did not organize any community group.
In fact in Mile&Quarter where he lived, he did not mix with the youngsters. At school and at UWI, he was a wimp. Except for drinkin binges at Mona.
At the political level, he was also a wimp, crying on the floor of the House when, he was down and out and was pleading with the selfish leaders of the BLP – Forde and St,John to give a piece of the action. He had NO EXPERIENCE.
So what about this tact that they are trying on Thompson. Thompson is a natural leader. At school, Thompson dispalyed his leadership skills -debating, Youth Club activities, Organizational skills and he was a UWI Scholar – I Think.
We all have to start ferom somewhere. If we continue with this nonesense, what would we leave young people to do? They would not stand a chance of ever getting a start,
So stop this crap about lack of experience.
GO AHEAD DAVID THOMPSON BARBADOS IS BEHIND YOU!

  72. And so we start anew with TOM PEE, 20 years after being a member of parliament.

You said that Owen HAD,, nb. HAD no experience. Well we are in the year 2007 almost 2008 and Owen has proven to be an astute leader at the local, regional and international levels. He has been thro’ the hottest fire and has proven his mettle.

So when people talk about TOM PEE lack of experience they are really refering to the fact that he has 1 year experience 20 times. They are also equating lack of competence with lack of experience. TOM PEE is simply, immature and incompetent.

When we look for leadership we look towards OWEN ARTHUR, when we want leadersh@t we look toward the LOO

Towards a new bebigining with the BLP and OWEN ARTHUR

  73. But what are the issues Frankology deals with? Frankly, I find him to tedious. He just splits hairs and, with an inability to conjugate, just plays with words. He is neither B nor D. He doesn’t vote. Does he breathe?
    …………………………………………………………………….
    Issues – ALL
Too tedious – SORRY – that’s my style when
ensuring all my facts are vented.
    Conjugate – Too many questionable
    variables to combine.
Bee or Dee – Same ideology, different name.
Don’t Vote – My democratic right.
Don’t Breathe – Yuh got me dey!

Anyway, I am still able to make at least a 1% contribution, some people cannot even make a half percentage.

  74. It is my esteemed pleasure to congratulate the officials whom are responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the much talked about Project Oasis. I had heard much talk about this project but it is on investigating and researching the project that I really understood what it was about.Mr Wood I must say that that it was a very good initiative not only for the ‘boys on the block’ but also for society as a whole. This project seeks to correct and deal with a trend and a problem which mainstream society seemed to have lost control on. I believe strongly that if we say we embrace free education for all, then all of us as Barbadians should be proud of this initiative. The conceptual thinking of this project seeks to train and retrain our at risk youth ,aspects of self development, life ,education and most importantly, allow these youth to realize that they have potential and are not just rejects or social deviants .Through this project many individuals whom otherwise may have fallen through the cracks have been afforded opportunities in both job and entrepreneurship. Others have also benefited from the life skills components which have been taught. As a society which is so conscious about our moral status I think it should be interesting to note that personal self development is an important tool to achieving social cohesion within society.

We now have a system in place to deal with a problem and I would like to call on all Barbadians to put their backing behind a project such as this Project Oasis. Remember, we should be our brother’s keeper. It is our duty to look out for one another and if the ‘boys on the block’ as they are regarded are willing to work with this project and make a positive change then by all means support it. This project will help shape some of our future minds and will be instrumental in our future, societal development.

(Jermaine Beckford is a university student with an opinion on everything)

  75. I would suggest that the outgoing representives ought to have followed the style of the idiot ASSCOLL and to give each and every member of the POOR BLACK BOYS of the community a $ 2 million donation to help them, that is representaion for you, ASSCOLL did it.

    ==============================

ha ha ha ha ha you too bad, but i actually glad that something, anything has been attempted to turn these guys away from their idleness. It is to be lamented and castigated that we did not seek to deal with these problems as they were being manifested in an educational system that is becoming more and more North American, by way of sexy nouveau concepts that are loaded with promise not met, as best practices of these initiatives in their native NA school systems and districts will attest. That these ideas and progressive promises are being and indeed have been introduce to our society with devastating effect, only to be met with a stubborn unwillingness to rethink, and return to approaches that did not have all the unintended consequences we have seen, for in spite of all these changes to our system we can still talk of person dropping through the cracks.
….Now that the failed results of these new educational approaches have matured to adulthood their negatives have also been magnified in all manner of anti-social behaviour. So it is from this view point that i welcome any initiative such as Project Oasis which seeks to put to work idle hands. I will not however be rewarding this Government for this initiative, as i see this project as a patch solution in keeping with the naked pragmatism that is rampant in Barbados, where things must first occur, and occur consitently, and beyond any shadow of doubt for this GoB to attend to it, and by then it is usually to late, for any meaningfull and or sustained turn around. So, Inspite of my positive view of this late stage programme, I cannot help but note the similarity it holds with a past generation of men and mainly women along side our roads weeding, and hoe-ing, the difference being impliments/tools of the job, and view of not being employees of a government department, but one of being young entrapeneours. Is this progress?

  77. When we look for leadership we look towards OWEN ARTHUR, when we want leadersh@t we look toward the LOO

Towards a NEW BEGINING with the BLP and OWEN ARTHUR

  78. You are right Barbados Underground – the countdown has started.

Barbados Free press has just announced that the first vote has been cast

  79. ssc you are struggling terrilbly when you have to use the DLP slogan and alter it, then again the leader of the opposition has been running this island for some time now right down to the calling of the election.

    FRANKOLOGY,

When you reflect on your words above you will see how often….Owen tricks you !

Just like he in did January 2006 when he said ……” Come hither and toil ” !
