The plight of former and current CBC workers was recently highlighted on VOB’s Down to Brass Tacks without a response from the SOE, Ministry, Minister or Prime Minister.
CBC’s transition on April 1st meant the firing of all staff and the selective rehiring of friends and party loyalists by “the powers that be”. While many in the public claim they do not care about the affairs in the Pine, they must remember that their BLACK BARBADIAN brothers and sisters work there.
For workers, the new CBC means fear, absolute loyalty to management, more responsibilities, less pay, late pay and no benefits. Where is the BWU that paraded on stage about this historic deal? Where is Colin Jordan who pretends to care about workers? This is a government entity.
The National Sports Council seems to be the next entity to undergo this woeful ‘transition’ when they will fire all staff and ‘rehire’ who they choose. Where are the unions that pretend to care so much about workers and their rights?
Should everyone be on a short term contract with their livelihoods being determined by megalomaniacs? This is not the Barbados our heroes fought for. Who will stand up for BLACK BARBADIAN WORKERS?
